the EA community manager's response to it taking 40 hours to unlock a hero was to call us armchair developers, naturally he had to delete the tweet and apologize but it still made me laugh, nothing sells copies like insulting your fans.

Re: Battlefront 2's locked characters, I think squabbling over whether it takes 30, 40, or however many hours to unlock Luke or Vader is missing the point a bit. It's still too many. Let's say it's 20 hours. That's 20 hours to unlock the protagonist from the most loved trilogy in franchise history. You then have to do the same thing to unlock Vader. Chewie, Princess Leia, and the Emperor cost 2/3 as many credits, so you're looking at a grind to unlock them. And so on.

They are planning on releasing new characters that yes, are free, but will need to be unlocked as well. So if you want Finn or Phasma, prepare for more grinding. And since the same currency is used to unlock characters and buy loot crates, you have to choose between upgrading your soldiers/heroes or unlocking new ones. Or option C) Break down and buy crates with real money. That's what they want you to do, of course.

The issue is really multi-faceted and no one solution will fix it. You not only have overpriced heroes, but you have an incredibly slow rate of earning credits. Also, you earn credits in matches simply by the time you spent playing. There is no bonus for winning and you earn the same as MVP of your team as the guy who went 2-20 and didn't play the objective.

Are there challenges? Sure, but there are a finite number. They will eventually run out and before that, you'll have gotten all the low-hanging fruit and be stuck going after the more grindy ones (500 kills as an assault, etc), at which point your "progression" will slow considerably and you'll be tempted to...buy crates with real money.

They say they will add more challenges in the future and that you'll be able to earn credits with special events, seasons, etc., but just as with the EA comment that got downvoted to hell, there aren't any specifics. You're in the unenviable position of trusting EA to do the right thing after you've invested in the game. Same thing with future hero costs.

The game was so clunky but I loved it so much.

Regarding the Battlefront II debacle, I'm holding off on purchase until everything settles. I want to play it but don't have the 80+ hours to unlock heroes. But 5-6 per hero would be reasonable- like playing through 'Arcade Mode' for games back in the 90s.

Yeah even for $38.99 (BB GCU and $10 off coupon) I can't support this crap. I was 50/50 but I can wait till it is MUCH cheaper if at all.

No, this is to unlock the base ability to play as said character period. You have some heroes for free, which is probably what you're thinking of from the beta. Rey, Kylo, Maul and the like, but many classics are locked behind these giant grinds. As is Iden from the campaign, who really should be free or unlocked from beating the story.

Personally, I'm not necessarily against unlocking some characters, but core people like Vader and Luke should not be them. Maybe give them skins that take a while to get, like Anakin for Vader or Sequel Luke. It should also take less than 40 hours to unlock ALL characters total, and no matter what they shouldn't be tied to the same currency that you have to spend on the progression locking lootboxes.

Really, if they're going to have characters locked they should be EU characters that the hardcore SW fans would be the most excited for. Ashoka, Thrawn, Darth Revan. A lot of people would be less upset if all the classics in the game were just playable like the original games from 10 years ago.

That's where I am. I will eventually buy it to have at $10, but no way am I investing in a game with ftp schemes. If they want me to pay extra for all the extras it's gotta be free to start. Get me hooked, then charge for every drop later.
 
Deeply concerned about Black Friday Sales hitting in just four days.  Given how close that is to some of these release dates, I think its highly unlikely that we'll see amazing prices on Holiday 2017 titles.

I think we're going to see the best of first-half 2017 and 2016 titles up sale, with token discounts for early October titles like Shadows of War and Evil Within 2 (25% off).  So...probably not comparable to brick-and-mortar chain disc prices, in other words.  Again.

This is always how digital compares to physical, so it shouldn't be any surprise. It takes a long time for digital prices to rival physical prices.

 
Tbh I put in over 200 hours for Battlefront 1 anyway so I'll be grinding away regardless. I'll still pick up BF 2 but I'll keep it in plastic just in case I need to return it. I'll wait for some of my trusted TA buddies to offer up an opinion.

Not really. That’s only the heroes. The Star Cards that affect all gameplay are actually even more important to me than the heroes. Those were easier to quantify since it’s not as convoluted as the POS loot box system. But upgrades and other items that directly affect gameplay are going to kill the balance of MP.

They should have went with skins or other cosmetic items and they still would have sold a shit ton. But crates that can be purchased with real money and no guarantee of what you’re even going to get is BS.

I have a feeling you don't work in marketing. Of course Luke and Vader cost the most, that's who everyone wants to play as. Boba Fett is cool and all, but you aren't going to get a million people to grind 50 hours to unlock him.

I'm still torn on the subject. It annoys me and I'd rather not support the business decisions, but my bro and nephew had a blast in the beta and trial. They will totally get $30 worth of enjoyment, and if they hit a progression wall they will justify spending money since they didn't have to spend $50 on a season pass. Due to them paying half, and my "half" being partially covered by discounts, there really wasn't any good reason not to preorder.

Sweet! Now I'll... still wait for it to be $10 for the ultimate edition. One benefit I have noticed with EA Access is that EA games go cheap really fast. So those of us that just want a couple EA games can get good deals without paying for Access.

The first one was just not a very good FPS. For me it has nothing to do with the loot boxes, it's just that CoD and Overwatch are better FPS games with better pacing. $10 is just my price point for this kind of an FPS.

If this was a Star Wars Overwatch style game where it was all the named characters from Star Wars in an arena shooter, I would be in for $60. Give me loot boxes for a Santa Chewy or a Snowman Stormtropper, I'm in.

The game is still fucked. Even at "only" 10 hours each to unlock Vader and Luke, the progression system is completely ruined by being locked in RNG lootboxes, even if you couldn't buy them with actual money.

Not to derail the Battlefront II narrative but it is worth mentioning that Italy's out of the 2018 World Cup. Last time Italy, a 4-time World Cup Champion, missed a World Cup was back in 1958 when the tournament was held, ironically, in Sweden.

The only time death threats are okay is if your daughter is in Paris and is kidnapped and for some reason the kidnappers decide to pick up the phone and listen to what (if anything) you have to say.

The problem with the Battlefront 2 stuff, this EA Access trial is FUN, like; more fun then I've been having with any other multiplayer shooter, so I'm going to get the game because of that.....also I can afford Chewbacca now because of the cut I was already closeish but this is nice!

It was terrible to see Buffon crying after the game. This would’ve been his last World Cup and they don’t even make it.

Occam’s razor said they didn’t plan this. Too complex.

However, they did plan to make a concession or series of concessions to placate the loudest critics of their in game/real money economy.

You have no idea of know exactly what will cause the shit storm in your virtual current world, but you can make a small change, say you are listening (because you technically are) and move on.

Same the the VIP in Forza. Though, that one they may have planned actually.

Not going to lie, as someone who spent money on HDDVDs, I’m glad to have spent money on something that is taking off, at least a good start.

Platform support for X enhanced will be key and adoption of the platform by consumers Spurs that on.
 
My favorite part of Assassins Creed Origins so far is sniping the shit out of patrols who have crafting materials. Over and over and over as I drive through the city.

This is probably not too far off as their was an internal forum for Geek Squad where we would read and laugh about the crazy shit some people had to put up with in the name of IT. Of course that was incompetent customers, not employees.

Also according to my Xbox's bandwidth history and the state of my throttled "4G" hotspot I'm pulling down 289MB/h. Soooo it feels like...
