Goal: get out of the library by ~9pm to try and finish Mass Effect tonight.

I'm almost done with my (re)play through, haven't played it in 6 years and forgot a lot of the plot details. Revisiting this game has made me appreciate Andromeda a lot more, and honestly a lot of my complaints about Andromeda are things that are present in ME1.

Both games have a ton of sidequests which you can gain access to early on and ignore the main narrative, easily logging 10-15 hours without advancing the main story if you felt so compelled, depending on how much you enjoy exploring. And Andromeda has way better exploration, the environments in ME1 get repetitive and the Mako feels like a chore more often than not. With ME:A, I had that "just one more sidequest" mentality when I needed to turn it off to go do other things, and driving felt really great.

The plot in ME1 is definitely better, though, and Saren is an intriguing villain even after I know everything that's going to happen. Still, ME:A got a bad rap.

I have taken the plunge into the world of the X today. Updates and long downloads await.

I got about $97 off at Meijer for this beast, also sold some things to lessen the blow. You guys have me seriously hyped for this super-powered entertainment machine.

 
I don't remember what happened, I know they talked about rentals being a thing this gen in console since digital licenses and all that. I'm sure plenty of people would rent a game for a day or two constantly instead of buying it. Even make it take a month after launch to be an option to not take from sales.

If you have friends to play with battlegrounds can be fun even if you're not very good. I don't think I'm great at it but playing with my roommate and friends is a good time. If you work together, you can easily get into the top 10-20 without having a ton of skill. It also takes a bit of luck, you can choose a bad spot to land in or have someone land a few seconds before you, get the closest weapon and take you out.

You mean digital rentals?

GamePass is sort of digital rentals since you download the games and it obviously must check the license. Would be cool to rent individual games. But sure it wouldn’t be as cheap as Redbox.

Can't you disable all this? In the Settings, under Preferences and Idle Options (iirc), the left option is a checkmark to enable/disable showing you stuff when your console is idle. Disabling that won't show the streams. Not sure if it'll still pause your game though (hopefully not).

For all you folks with a X1X. Has anyone tried playing dark souls? Does it still drop frames or is it smooth?

Asking because I'm playing it right now with my X1S and it has frequent fps drops in more areas then I recall on the 360.
 
Hey guys, somethings wrong with my Xbox X picture.

I came home and cut on my X, and the picture is completely screwed up. Looks like its rendering in 600p. I've tried a hard reset, unplugged the console, nothing has worked. Has this happened to anyone else?

EDIT: Nevermind. Everything is cool. I had to unplug the HDMI cord and plug it back in. Really weird.

Nope. At least it’s still under warranty.

Been hearing of some issues with the Scorpio units. I have the standard edition and occasionally buggy on the dash but otherwise problem free.

I highly recommend ODST. The story and atmosphere are great. It’s still my favorite Halo game.

I don't doubt that. Still, I wonder about the mentality of people to steal a game that was on sale for like $25 on Black Friday and that you can beat in a weekend, anyway.

I think other companies would pick up where they left off. I live in a smallish town (~5,000) and we have two video kiosks that are locally owned and operated and aren't affiliated with Redbox. We mysteriously had a Redbox for like a week and my wife was pretty stoked. We stopped by once, it said it wasn't in service yet. Stopped by again a couple of days later, were in the process of renting something and got a weird error screen and then the box said it required service. Next time we drove by, it was gone. :whistle2:k

I'm almost done with my (re)play through, haven't played it in 6 years and forgot a lot of the plot details. Revisiting this game has made me appreciate Andromeda a lot more, and honestly a lot of my complaints about Andromeda are things that are present in ME1.

Both games have a ton of sidequests which you can gain access to early on and ignore the main narrative, easily logging 10-15 hours without advancing the main story if you felt so compelled, depending on how much you enjoy exploring. And Andromeda has way better exploration, the environments in ME1 get repetitive and the Mako feels like a chore more often than not. With ME:A, I had that "just one more sidequest" mentality when I needed to turn it off to go do other things, and driving felt really great.

The plot in ME1 is definitely better, though, and Saren is an intriguing villain even after I know everything that's going to happen. Still, ME:A got a bad rap.

Did you read the prequel book though? I read it before I played ME1, and I really enjoyed it. I still haven’t played the rest of the series yet, shamefully.
 
I really don't understand the hatred that Mass Effect Andromeda receives. No, it wasn't as good as the original trilogy was, but it was nowhere close to being a "turd sandwich" level game.

It had issues, as do most games these days immediately after launch, but it wasn't as bad as a lot of people make it sound.

 
Finished Halo Wars 2's Awakening the Nightmare campaign and it was top notch. It was challenging yet fun - a bit nostalgic too - to be fighting against the Flood again. Then as I read the credits at the end with the voice actors I realize John DiMaggio does Atriox's voice. Lol !!! Mind blown!

The Mass Effect games have always had issues, but people were so smitten by the rest of the game that they overlooked it and have been in denial about that until ME3 and Andromeda.

 
Was putting away some games and discovered I actually have EDF 2017 so score one for my backlog with today’s BC add.

Also, Gears 4 is now officially on GamePass. No need to get off my ass to put the disc in for the next month.

EDF 2017 is night and day in terms of performance, at least on the X.

The crappy frame rate was almost charming and I know It's odd to say that, but the frame drops were pretty damn big.

Granted I'm only in the first 5 levels so things will probably change. I lost my original save so I can't test the end areas.

What's more crazy is there one achievement per difficulty cleared and AFAIK they are not stack able. Also one achievement for getting ALL the weapons which are difficulty dependent and random drops.

there a few people that have Tekken 7 and wouldnt mind helping me get the Online Tournament win achievement? only achievement I need besides the get all Achievements achievement. i dont mind helping others get some achievements in return.

A partial success! I did leave the library by 9, but I overestimated the remaining missions. Finished Vermire, hit level 50, and I'm on my way to Ilos. Will finish this weekend.

The end of this semester is so, so close. Gonna put Game Pass to use.

Mass Effect 2 is IMHO one of the best games of last generation and also one of the best RPGs of all time. ME3 is also very good, but it's a continuation of what made ME2 good versus being it's own thing.

In either case, they are hard acts to follow. I think of it kind of like Final Fantasy, I've played every main entry in the series (minus the MMOs) and they all have themes and elements across entries, but are different games. Some I enjoy more than others, and usually for different reasons.

FF6 is a perfect RPG to me, much like ME2. FFXV has its problems and the story isn't that well done, but the character interactions and combat kept me interested. Andromeda did the same thing.

I think ME:A is actually a good comparison for FFXV. Both games were in development a long time, both had high expectations. FFXV had a warmer reception out the gate, but S-E has continued to support the game and drawn in new players with DLC and content updates. If EA had done the same with Andromeda, I think they could have greatly improved on the foundation of what they made, versus abandoning the whole thing. Put out some story DLC, make it good, tie it all together, and set it up for a sequel people want.

Unfortunately, if it's not rooted in microtransactions, EA has no long-term vision anymore.

I think it was a case where the criticism took on a life of its own. I'm sure a lot of the people who were piling on had not played (or had barely played) the game and were going off what they'd heard and gifs of a few wonky animations.

Worth mentioning, perhaps, that Hand of Fate 2 has an "early adopter" price reduction of 10 percent. For the next 7 days or so, the game costs 27 dollars instead of 30.

Think PS4 and Steam got the same 10 percent discount at release. I wasn't sure if we'd get it too due to the delay and because I didn't see them advertise it anywhere, but I'm glad we weren't forgotten.

I was going to buy it anyway, so saving 3 bucks is just a nice bonus.

 
Heads up, it seems Konami has de-listed PES 2017 (you can't buy it as of now) and on top of that, I can't even re-install it because the digital license is no longer showing up in my Ready to Install section.

I contacted Xbox Support and apparently, I still "own" the license but they confirmed that I cannot re-install the game. They claim not to know what's up and, of course, they forwarded me to Konami Support.

That's terrible, this is the kind of thing that scared me away from buying digital over a decade ago. Hopefully it's just temporary, or else there is even more fuel for anti-Konami people to use.

The plot thickens, Konami did announce this past Monday, that they were in fact killing the game on 12/5. However, they only listed the PS3 and PS4 versions.

 
Mass Effect 2 and 3 have been available digitally for months. I had them playing on my Xbox One without disc. But that was also during a EA free period

That is 100% inaccurate.

They games didn't go digital until today. Even on the respective marketplace pages for each game, both have a release date of 12/1/2017.

Before today, they were only available for digital download (but not purchase) if you had an active EA Access membership.
