Lol, oh man that reminds me of the time when my roommate modded his friend's Wii with his permission. Later that same friend found out all his stuff was erased and was quite mad that all the Smash Bros characters he unlocked were gone. Sorry Awp.

Also yeah, I'm doing D12 and hopping from game to game. I'm on Darksiders now. After I transfered my save game file to the cloud, thankfully still have my 360, I haven't played this game in ages & yeah I haven't even touched the game...

Luckily, actually playing the Wii U got me in a better mood. Also made me realize how good of a deal I got on it.

In addition to the Wii U / Breath of the Wild bundle, I had gotten some games with the B2G1 deal at GameStop online. Decided when I got the stuff today to exchange one of the games so I brought in all three games to return to a store and rebuy since the game I wanted was cheaper.

Well, the idiot at GS somehow rang in all three games without including the fact that I got one free. Ended up getting three more
games and $20 back instead of paying $10 more like I expected.

So in the end I got all this for about $190:

Can you guys help me out with a purchase confusion.

I was browsing the sale today and happened across Forza Horizon 3, and thought about buying it. I haven’t played a racing game in a long time, but I’ve heard rave reviews for both gameplay and visuals, plus the HotWheels DLC just looks like fun!

Anyway, I went to make the purchase, but was immediately confused about the various DLCs, which were incomprehensible to me. I was hoping someone could guide me in the best purchase to get the most (or at least the best) content for the lowest price.

PS - Why does the “Ultimate Edition” which is like $100 not contain all the DLC?! It seems insane!!!

I was browsing the sale today and happened across Forza Horizon 3, and thought about buying it. I haven’t played a racing game in a long time, but I’ve heard rave reviews for both gameplay and visuals, plus the HotWheels DLC just looks like fun!

Anyway, I went to make the purchase, but was immediately confused about the various DLCs, which were incomprehensible to me. I was hoping someone could guide me in the best purchase to get the most (or at least the best) content for the lowest price.

PS - Why does the “Ultimate Edition” which is like $100 not contain all the DLC?! It seems insane!!!

On the store page for the game a few of the reviews mention losing game saves and having to start over. Some of them seem pretty recent. I'm thinking of picking the game up so I'm a little worried about this even though I'll probably never get around to playing it. Sometimes I think I spend more time buying games than playing them!

If you don't care about collecting cars then you may not want the ultimate edition. That'll pretty much just give you VIP and the first 6 car packs. VIP will give you double earnings from races and a few extra cars. I believe most anyone would agree that the Hot Wheels expansion is a must buy. The other expansion, Blizzard Mountain, is fun, but not as much as Hot Wheels. But the expansion pass is cheaper than either expansion so just buy that.

Missing II here. Do these games have stories that carry over? Think III is supposed to be the best (and is X enhanced). Wondering if I could just play it or if I wouldn’t know what is going on.

Edit: maybe I was wrong. Sounds like II (the only one I don’t have, of course) is the best.

If I have 2 profiles on the Xbox One, say profile 1 bought a game. Would Profile 2 only be able to play if profile 1 is the home profile. Is this right?

Played a bit of Zelda, MB3W, Mario Kart 8 and Bayonetta 2 and am quite happy with my purchase.

And now I’ll stop talking about Wii U stuff....

No, please keep talking about it. I've been thinking of getting a Wii U for a while and this sale might push me over. Sorry about the Wii, I am not looking forward to my kids being dangerous enough to do real damage to MY consoles.

I think you missed a pretty important point here. 1) It wasn't his console to do it with without asking and 2) He could have done it in a way that didn't wipe out all of their data, game saves, etc.

 
FYI, the WiiU is similarly easy as long as you have a decent size regular SD card, or so I might have theoretically heard somewhere. If you hook an external HD up to it you need a y-plug to power it from two outlets on the console.

Sadly, the deal I had to get the console and Breath of the Wild is over. Up from $140 to $205 now. Sure they will run other bundle sales at some point but that was a damn good deal.

The other games I got cheap from the B2G1 plus the screw up where they credited me $30 for a game that was free when I originally bought it.

Yep. Ordered a Y adapter yesterday. Idiotic that even the “deluxe” version only has 32 GB of space (far less due to the system itself). I already have it almost full with two downloaded games and 4 GB of reserved space for BoTW.

The Wii U is a great system in terms of games and functionality, there's plenty of fun to be had, it was just so overpriced and poorly marketed. With some tinkering, you can get every generation of Nintendo system running on it (NES through Gamecube) along with all handhelds up through the DS. I only use homebrew in Wii mode, but playing Gamecube games over HDMI with native widescreen support and official controllers is pretty damn cool. It's not emulation, either - they run natively via the Wii hardware.

And awp, if your son tries to mod the Wii U's Wii mode, the technique isn't the same, and he could brick the Wii functionality.

If he ever even thinks about it he’ll be buried six feet under...or at least kicked out of the house (he is 18 after all).

That said I do want to install the home brew that allows playing GameCube games. Was saddened after researching that even with the functionality unlocked, it won’t play the GameCube discs directly, since I already own a bunch.

Yeah, I know there’s other methods but would be nice to just stick in the disc I already have.

I bought the zombiu bundle for 400 and don't regret it as it is a great console, couch co-op is where it really shines with wolly world,new super mario, and 3d world. have fun

 
I Too will chime in on the WiiU love...on the XBox Deals thread. It's a great console and Super Mario 3D World alone is almost worth it for the whole console purchase. Co-op in that game combines the chaos of Mario Party with Nintendo perfected platforming. Tons of laughs and screaming in frustration, but just fantastic.

I paid $400 for the same bundle and regret it till this day. There were some good games but God the console and the phablet we're good awful. At $150 or less I would buy though for the 3 games I want to finish on that system.

I love the games I’ve already tried on the Wii U and have plenty more I want to play. My only real complaint so far is how ungodly slow the menus are. Just going into settings and back to the main page takes forever.

I will never complain about the Xbox or PS4 UI again.

I Still use my 360. The WiiU has nothing on my 360.

 
That's my setup with a Kinivo 301BN HDMI switch; OG Xbox One, Xbox 360 & Wii U. Feel like that gives me a pretty good swath of game, excluding the 400+ games library on the One lol. I'm still working on Zelda: Wind Waker HD on my Wii U so I didn't pick up Breath of the Wild - although I am keeping my eyes open for a deal later on, hoping for a GotY or Ultimate Edition actually.

Died last night in Darksiders from Angels. fucking Angels man - I do realize the irony of experiencing/stating this after the days of Christmas! So I went down a bit on the list and figured I'd try to do Garden Ops on PvZ:GW (Xbox One version, I played on 360 and unlocked most on that system) and two times a random group and I got to the end but didn't extract. Sigh...

Off to Home Depot to pick up a tarp and some tie around bungies. The canvas roof of my canvas garage sheltering my car from the NY extreme winter weather tore right off. Is sorta a Christmas present lol. Then I might go back to some achievement hunting for that D12 challenge.

Honestly just want to rip my GameCube games and be able play them. Really don’t understand why Nintendo opted to lock them out when the hardware can play them natively. Maybe the size of the retail discs with the optical drive that’s in the Wii U?

You got it backwards. To be fair, it's stupid complicated.

Homebrew in Wii mode and in the native Wii U OS are two entirely different things.

Gamecube functionality currently only works in Wii mode, and Wii mode has absolutely nothing to do with the Wii U OS version. The Homebrew Channel not working is likely referring to the Homebrew Channel for the Wii U OS, not the Wii.

The console literally contains Wii hardware for full backwards compatibility, and the Wii hardware inside the Wii U is based on Gamecube architecture and therefore runs GC games natively when in Wii mode. This allows for basically 98% compatibility, with a few exceptions since it's still a hack.

However, the instructions for hacking Wii mode on the Wii U are different than if it was a Wii console like what your son did.

If I type Wii one more time I'm going to scream.

^^ Thanks. Still don’t get why Nintendo locked out GC discs if the hardware is there. Just list the few games that don’t work. But it’s Nintendo. Great games but never a very user friendly company.
 
Well, the basic hardware runs the software, but they removed GC controller ports and had no intention of enabling that side of the system. The Wii Mini is the same way. So it probably would have required a degree of effort to get Gamecube games to recognize other input (Pro Controllers, etc) which they weren't interested in investing - same reason that the Gamepad doesn't work in Wii mode, the software wasn't designed for it. If you boot a Gamecube game on a standard Wii, it only has code for GC controllers, not Classic Controllers attached to Wiimotes. With homebrew, the hacks fill in those gaps, and you can use almost any Bluetooth or USB controller, including a Wii U Pro or a PS4 controller.

It IS absurd, though, that every Wii U essentially contains a Gamecube, and they didn't feel like putting in the R&D to make it work officially.

 
XBOX MUSIC OWNERS:

Just a reminder that you must download your music to keep it since Xbox music/Groove dies on 12/31/17. I didn't realize that I had about 3,000 songs mostly from free and $1 album deals back in the day. Only 55% downloaded on my Surface and worried I may not have space. Anyone know how to bulk download Groove music to a windows 7 device? Can't find a way in the web app except to go into an album, click the menu on it and choose download. Then it warns that you can only download once, plus I have a lot of albums so this would be a pain. May try to upload it all to OneDrive and then download if I can bulk upload. I completely filled my Surface and it wasn't done downloading...

I think I'm done w the sale I bought Steamworld Dig, NHL 18, Dead Rising 4 Season Pass, and Fall of Cybertron. Nothing else sticks out to me.

Thanks for mentioning this. I was looking through some boxes of stuff from my collection to dump at GameStop last night and found a factory sealed copy of Infinite Warfare for Xbox One that I had bought from Target a few years back. The trade-in value is like $2 now so I might actually play it for the campaign instead of losing my shirt on the trade-in.

I bought the hot wheels blizzard mountain combo ps for 10.49 from the store interface on my Xbox One X. The pass instantly downloaded as 1 10 mb download. Afterwards I had to trigger the download for each portion of the dlc from the menu inside the game. Not sure if that helps.

This is correct and just to specify: there are no codes provided for individual DLCs with a season pass purchase, rather it just unlocks DLC for download within the game itself.
