Some notes
  • You cannot currently buy any Xbox 360 content on xbox.com using your account balance, you can only use an active credit card or PayPal. To use your balance, you must make purchases on your console.  Unfortunately, even "purchasing" free content through the web site like trials requires an alternative method of payment tied to your account, though adding an empty MasterCard / Visa gift card that is registered for online purchases will work.  Xbox One games can be purchased on the web site with your account balance.
  • Some sales are intended for Gold subscribers only, as noted within each section.
On Xbox One, Gold trials of any length work for sales and Games with Gold.  You must be an active Gold subscriber (paid or trial) to play Games with Gold purchases.
  • On Xbox 360, you must have at least a 1 month Gold subscription for sales and Games with Gold.  Neither 48 hour trials, 14 day trials nor free weekends qualify.

Here's how I see the analysts at MS expecting this to work. They believe that subscription services can be more profitable long term (dlc, no used games, etc). They aren't just looking at their games though. This move is going to greatly increase the number of subscribers. When Netflix was starting out, they were seen as a small disruptor. They didn't have the subscribers or cash to get the biggest movies. So, along with steady growth, they started making original content to grow the subscriber number. As those numbers grew, bigger movies jumped on. You can get Star Wars movies on there now.

MS is making a similar play, though I won't say they are exactly the same. With higher subscription numbers, they will be able to attract bigger third party games to Game Pass. I would almost guarantee we will begin seeing huge third party games added in the next year, as opposed to the leftovers that get put on there now. I bet we will even see third party exclusives that release on Game Pass. In turn, MS adds these huge third party and increases their subscribers (and revenue). It's a really brilliant move.
I don't think we are too far off from saying, "Play ANY Xbox One game for $180 per year!" $120 for GP + $60 for XBLG. Or heck, even at that point combine the two into one slightly discounted service called XBLP.

Yeah I know someone who spends thousands of dollars a year on micro transactions but rarely buys new games.

You factor in someone who spends over say $3,000 a year on microtransactions and that is basically 50 copies of new full priced games. They are in the minority but just one or two of those people can easily sustain the gamepass model. MS figures people will buy into the gamepass just for one game and get hooked on the model.

Also as Dark Rider says when more big third party's join in (if they don't do a EA access model of their own) this isalso gonna put the pressure on Nintendo and Sony to do a similar model (Sony has a PSNow Subscription so might not be too far off) since MS will be hammering E3 and other sites with gamepass info.

I'm going to subscribe once Crackdown drops. Not sure about before that as most of the games on the pass I already own. But once that drops I will easily subscribe.
The common wisdom with microtransactions seems to be that only a small percentage of users actually buy things, but that small percentage tends to spend a lot of money. A good friend of mine spent over $2k on a mobile game in Japan over the course of about 6 months.

was not expecting the game pass news today at all, looks like I'll be playing sea of thieves after all, $10 is way better than 60 to try it out
Yep. I had no interest for MSRP, but I'd definitely give it a try for $10 (a price which includes all the other games in case you don't like one of them).

PSN has the licensing infrastructure to provide an identical service since the access-via-subscription is the same as PS+ / GWG. MS has an advantage with BC in terms of sheer content, and it's probably easier to get publishers to throw 360 games on there. It's too bad PS Now is the only way PS3 games will ever run on the PS4, but given that Sony rejected EA Access by saying it "devalues the content," I'd be shocked if they tried to do their own rival Game Pass.

Well I finally got one of those halo/forza suit codes. Grabbed one from someone in here so throwing this one out there:

77GJM-HPK3V-2DVTW-Y36R6-F6DVZ

Does anyone here play Terraria at all?
Played a ton of it when it first came out for windows phone, need like two more achievements in that version but they were pretty glitch last I played. I really wish they allowed save transfers, I had a nice set up in that version. I have picked up the X1 version on sale but haven't given it a try yet.

I love the GamePass news. Sounds real cool and has me hooked. I lost faith in the Halo series after 4, didn’t pick up 5 until I found the deluxe edition for

I know it's off topic, but I also trust my homies on this thread's opinions.....Is there a good place for deals on Switch digital downloads? A place like this with an active community of contributors?

Also has me thinking: yes it’d be nice to get other publishers on board, but since EA alreacy has Access, imagine if they played with their model a bit. Instead of $25-30 for the year, they make it $60 (or more, knowing EA), and you get launch day access to all their sports titles every year. That would disrupt a whole lot of used game trade-in promos and such, and would give their subscriptions a hell of a boost.
That’s actually a pretty good idea. I’d wager EA will be taking a close look at how MS handles this.

As for disrupting trade in specials, I bet the retailers would be glad to be rid of all that unsellable inventory of Sports Game X-minus-1. I remember my days of retail and seeing the stack of 50 copies of Madden 2001 that only grew after November.

anybody else not able to get to the Bing Rewards dashboard?

I can use Bing to search but I can't get to the dashboard
Try going to xbox.com and logout. Had trouble getting to the Bing dashboard earlier, but it loaded after I logged out from elsewhere in the MS web ecosystem and logged back in.

If ever there was a genre for a subscription model, it's sports titles, given how quickly they're discarded.

I’m sure EA could make the financials work for that. However, i imagine the biggest stumbling block would be the leagues themselves. Let’s not forget what happened when NFL 2K5 dented Madden’s sales at $20 launch. EA didn’t want its sales to tank, but the nfl didn’t like the idea of their trademarks being sold at a lower price.

Isn't that EA Access? It's way cheaper than Game Pass and you get all of their sports games to play in full after the season ends along with all of their non-sports games.
It is, but the reason for that discussion was specifically regarding day one access and whether EA would ever offer something with that. Lord knows if they did I couldn't sign up quick enough.

It would be nice, but they'd probably increase the price when that happens. They seem to be happy with giving you a demo of each game for $30 per year and full access to it after it's relevancy ends.

At first I was all "Man, the Skyrim Pinball FX table is so simple and ain't that exciting" a few hours later "Holy shit, time to do some side quests and kill this evil ass mage and get some more shouts!"

I would totally pay $99 a year for an "EA Sports" subscription that had day one access to the big four. I could see just enough people being willing to pay that to make it worth offering while it still would be too much for the masses which would guarantee they would still sell a ton the way they currently do. Win-win.

Get some EA Big titles on BC and I'd be down.

In other news, I think I have hit my peak of laziness after "playing" Clicker Heroes for 5 hours today after work.

I can't get into the Dragon Ball FighterZ beta.

I am a ps4 player for all my fighters but wanted to play a little more before release. Was super stoked xbox would be getting an extension and hopped on tonight. I went to boot it up but all I had on the Xbox was the old Closed Beta client from over 6 month ago. That one isn't working an then when I go to DL the Open Beta client it says that it is unavailable....

Any idea what is up?

Interesting question because then Forza would be included. I can't really imagine them giving that or Halo or Gears away for free right away.
Quote from the Xbox news page (bold is mine):

"This plan to bring new games timed with their global release into Xbox Game Pass not only includes announced titles like Sea of Thieves, State of Decay 2 and Crackdown 3 but future unannounced games from Microsoft Studios including new iterations of our biggest Xbox One exclusive franchises such as Halo, Forza and Gears of War, on the same day they launch."

Where were you guys getting a year of game pass so cheap? Damn I wish I had a time travel machine.

I also completely forgot when I bought my X it came with a month pass. So can do the 14 trial then the month right when Sea of Thieves launches.

I hear that, man. I've been ignoring deals for GP because I already have a huge backlog. I didn't think it offered me much more than confusion when games get pulled from service but I still had them installed.

Like a lot of you, now all of a sudden Sea of Thieves is on my radar. I wasn't that keen on the idea of actually working a boat as a team, because I know no one wants to row and I can barely get one friend to play a game at the same time as me. However, being out on GP at launch means it will have a much larger than normal install base so even with a bunch of randoms it will still be fun just for the massive carnage. Does anyone know max player limits for a given area? How big is the world? Is there a bonus for having someone on board who just drinks and sings out of tune?

It sounds like people cashed out the Bing rewards 12 month codes and sold them on ebay. What's obnoxious is most of the one-month codes floating around are the first-time-use ones now.

[emoji445] Show me the way to go home
I'm tired and I want to go to bed
I had a little drink about an hour ago
And it’s gone right to my head
Wherever I may roam
On land or sea or foam
You can always hear me singing this song
Show me the way to go home.[emoji445][emoji482][emoji482]

Bing rewards has a hot deal for XBL

1 month -> 4,730 points
3 months -> 10,500 points
12 months -> 20,300 points

Point cost is for tier 2 which you probably are if you have that many points.

Brilliant move by microsoft. They got people like me, who only buys maybe 1 new game a year. They now got me for $240 a year directly to them, no middle man.

Also now I get to check out sea of thieves which I was on the fence about  :bouncy:

I've been preachin the Game Pass from the start now it's a no brainer

ALL GLORY TO THE GAME PASS
