Some notes
  • You cannot currently buy any Xbox 360 content on xbox.com using your account balance, you can only use an active credit card or PayPal. To use your balance, you must make purchases on your console.  Unfortunately, even "purchasing" free content through the web site like trials requires an alternative method of payment tied to your account, though adding an empty MasterCard / Visa gift card that is registered for online purchases will work.  Xbox One games can be purchased on the web site with your account balance.
  • Some sales are intended for Gold subscribers only, as noted within each section.
On Xbox One, Gold trials of any length work for sales and Games with Gold.  You must be an active Gold subscriber (paid or trial) to play Games with Gold purchases.
  • On Xbox 360, you must have at least a 1 month Gold subscription for sales and Games with Gold.  Neither 48 hour trials, 14 day trials nor free weekends qualify.

[*]All known sales and information on sales should make their way into the OP. Major Nelson usually updates his blog with new sales information every Tuesday.
[*]ALL OFFERS ARE SUBJECT TO CHANGE! No information within this thread can or should be construed as accurate (or still valid), therefore ...

A few questions for all you good people of this thread, for those of you who have made the switch to a One X. Do you think the upgrade was worth it? Is there that much of a noticeable difference between the X and the S? Do you feel it justified its price?
No, it's not worth it. I did it because I like to have all the latest greatest stuff, but when i'm honest with myself, it's very hard to tell the difference on stuff. I'm not going through a side by side test, etc., but I have an S in one room with a very nice 1080p TV and an X in another room with an extremely nice 4k TV and it's very difficult to notice the difference. Yes, I can notice some sort of difference, but not $500 worth of difference.

That being said, I have an electronics addiction problem and would get an Xbox One Y if it were announced at Gamescom.

As somebody who's waiting towards this end of the Gamestop promo, this helps a lot. I'm having trouble even thinking of paying the $300 it would be with the trade-in bonus. The free game on top only slightly tipped the scale, but I'm not sure I can justify the cost when I have no 4ktv (in the game room) and my VCR Xbox is still working like a champ. I think I'm just cheaper than cheap when it comes to these things.

The devil on my shoulder is saying "C'mon, it's only $300...AND you get a free game...do it!" while the angel on the other shoulder is saying "You don't NEED the upgrade and won't for awhile. Wait a few more years."

If all it took was one person to say no compared to five people with an enthusiastic yes, then I think your decision was already made regardless. Then again this website only encourages wreckless spending.

I don't think you're "cheaper than cheap." You're just being rational. I also don't think spending $300 now for slightly better graphics and faster load times is worth it for me. Especially with rumors of next gen consoles already. The XB1 lifespan won't be as long as the 360's was. I'd rather just wait and buy the new one.

That angel needs to shut the hell up and let the devil do all the talking.

Quests are working and the final quest has gone live.
I never saw more than one frame of video (it froze immediately) but I was able to claim all the rewards regardless.

Yes, it’s absolutely worth it. The difference in some games is stunning. And not just newer games. Things like Oblivion, the original Forza Horizon and, especially Red Dead Redemption look like new games with amazing detail. When I first saw AC Orgins, my jaw literally dropped. Frame rate improvements, load times...everything is just better.

It wasn't (and honestly still isn't) already made because it's something I debate on the daily since the deal popped up. It just happens to be a scale that, instead of starting on a 50-50 type of balance, began at 75-25 so it takes a lot more to pull the trigger. I just said that post helped because this thread that was seemingly 100% for the upgrade. When a bunch of cheapies are saying do it, it starts to passively persuade you just by reading the comments.

Fair enough! I'm hesitant to buy any new console within a year of release just because there will always be kinks and I can wait on a deal because I have enough games in my backlog to drown myself in.

Also the only thing I feel I want a One X for right now is just the faster loading and possibly fixing any frame rate issues, but not enough to want to buy a One X at it's current price even after trade in (also I keep all my consoles). 720P and 1080P? I Still can't tell that shit apart unless you got TV's side by side and demand I spot the differences and can't leave until I do. I Feel 4K will leave me with the same feeling.

The reality, though, is that regardless of how great or how bad something looks, you get used to it. Yes, your jaw might drop at some of the enhanced graphics. This is a best case scenario. But once that newness wears off, it just becomes your Xbox again and it doesn't really matter whether it's 4k, 1080p, 720p, etc. I get that there's a difference, but there's so many components of what makes a good video game that graphics aren't going to keep you coming back long term. If you enjoy gaming, you'll like it regardless. That's why it's hard to recommend newer consoles that only modestly improve graphics. Sure you can appreciate them, but they aren't going to give you better gameplay, better AI, etc., so most of the wow factor or true usability is kind of short lived.

EDIT: Someone mentioned a good point about framerate issues, load times, etc. Those are different than pure graphics. If those changes are meaningful and worth the money, that has a bigger impact on the gaming experience than slightly enhanced graphics in a long-term sense, so I can more easily justify the cost that way. Of course, "justify" is the wrong word here since this is a hobby.

I did the X1X Gamestop upgrade the other day and after installing and downloading all X enhancements, only had a chance to play a few games(on a regular 1080p tv). But I could tell the difference. Gears 4 and Sea of Thieves looked crisper and the load times were noticeably shorter. Going to play some Warframe & Forza Horizon 2 later on tonight. Will also snatch up the FH2 dlc thats on sale before it gets delisted. I'm happy with my upgrade. Course, I only paid $5 out of pocket with all the trades so take that FWIW

If anything, buying a 4k TV with HDR10 might be a better investment (assuming on X1S, since VCR model doesn't have HDR) in terms of visual quality, most people seem to agree that HDR is the bigger upgrade, it's just that most experience them simultaneously. Then all movies/systems/etc get a shiny new screen.

Eventually! For now my ignorant view of graphics means I don't know what I'm missing as I jump from last gen to current gen and 3DS and such so I feel no need to buy more TV's just yet! YET.

Holy cow! I haven't even seen this yet, I just barely saw Black Panther not to long ago. I'm super excited and my kids will be thrilled, they watch Thor Ragnorak on Netflix at least once a week. My lucky week, I better come up with a giveaway to give back. I'll do one soon...

Wow! Thanks so much, Mr Hockey!

Great idea Donken. I will have to see if I have something to pay it forward, as well.

Holy cow! I haven't even seen this yet, I just barely saw Black Panther not to long ago. I'm super excited and my kids will be thrilled, they watch Thor Ragnorak on Netflix at least once a week. My lucky week, I better come up with a giveaway to give back. I'll do one soon...
Infinity war was great. I like thor ragnarok better in the sense that its just a fun summer popcorn movie. Iw is more on the serious side. There are a few jokes but its a darker movie. Thor was more light humored and could just have fun. Iw had a lot of story to cover and lots of characters to bring together. In its nature it had to be serious. It had to tie up all the loose ends, add new plot, and juggle 20 different characters.

Wow! Thanks so much, Mr Hockey!
Great idea Donken. I will have to see if I have something to pay it forward, as well.

Glad some of my xbox peeps got to get in on the action. I have a thread were I give away movie codes and they either get lurked or the same three people always get them. One guy has litteraly got about 50-100 movies I've given away

Regarding the Xbox One X: the Xbox One is reaching the end of its lifespan (released in 2013; it's 2018 now). I'm not sure it makes sense to buy a souped up Xbox One when the whole product line is this close to retirement. I'm going to wait until Microsoft releases the Xbox 3.14 or whatever ridiculous number they give it this time.

Having said that, it would be nice if Recore ran a little more smoothly than it does. Not sure if the X would make that much of a difference, though.

I’m thinking they will go we something real creative like Xbox 2. Then a year later a 2x. Heard it here first.

One thing I liked about buying an X: all the games I play on it I should be able to play on next gen. So when there is a trade in deal I will have no worries trading toward the next gen. And the x will get more trade value then the 1s

Xbox One X....TLDR = Hell Yes,,,IF YOU HAVE A 4K DISPLAY!!!

I was a die hard Sony PS4 this generation (got a launch unit then a Pro a year ago) and I also have an older PC with a GTX 1060....I had a VCR Xbox One since 2015 and it gathered dust for 2 years, all multi plats were played on PS4.

I got an Xbox One X release week along with a 49" Sony x900e 4K TV (has great HDR10).  I opted for that setup over building a whole new rig around a GTX 1080 because it was cheaper and my PS4 Pro could also utilize the TV.

Now, my PS4 Pro and PC are gathering dust.....The X is THAT GOOD!   4K/HDR was a game changer for me.  Yes, the great Sony 4K HDR TV was probably the bigger reason then the X as to why but right now to me Microsoft is also killing it with bing rewards, backwards compatibility including some 4K upgrades, and 4K enhancements for newer titles.

I now play all muti-plats on X1X and I am revisiting a lot of x360 BC games as well, especially the 4K upgraded ones (Oblivion. Fallout 3, etc)

I can't speak to XB1X for 1080p but I imagine it is potentially a game changer on the speeds and frame rates alone.  I agree with whoever said get a 4K HDR TV first if you have to choose.   I had a PS4 Pro with a 1080p monitor for a few months before I got my 4K TV and it was really not much of an upgrade.

I prob wouldn't have bought an Xbox One X but my work gave it to me for Christmas. I like it but I don't like spending $500 on a console. $200 is more my speed.

PSA

Lot of people (including me) having sign in issues with xbox on the console with error code 0x800488FC

I can't even get the status page to load, though other parts of the site seem fine. I left my console on to download some updates, I guess I won't be turning it off or logging off anytime soon.

The one night this week I wanted to play on XBox and I can't login.  The reliability of XBox online is pretty crappy of late. They should not charge a premium for online services if they can't keep the service disruptions to less than a few hours a year. I have been trying to login for over an hour tonight to no avail.

Since xbox is jacked I decided to go back and watch game of thrones again from the begging. You catch so much more on the second go around. Still a great show. Can't wait for next season.

Yay. I can get online now. Time to go to bed.  Maybe next time I decide to game the services will work as expected?

I ended up playing SNES Classic tonight. Not what I was in the mood for, but XBox was an epic fail this evening.

Who would have thought that adding a shopping cart to xbox live would have killed xbox live. Guess we wont be seeing buy a 360 game using ms credit any time soon

Pretty sure I just bought TR: Anniversary for the second time somehow. And I used my credit card instead of my credit. I am pretty sure things I have bought are not showing up as purchased.

I missed all of the Xbox Live online drama while cooking dinner. But I got to test the limits of what an Instant Pot can do, so that's something.

At least it was brief

Graveyard keeper has some sort frame smoothing/frame rate issues. Hard to explain but doesn't seem smooth to say the least.

Reading steam reviews much more fetch questy compared to Stardew Valley. Seems less interesting *BUT* if you love Stardew Valley it's probably right up your alley. Especially if you have gamepass since it would be "free".

It's always been so dang confusing to me, but which car packs are essential purchases in FH2 with content that cannot otherwise be obtained via in-game credit?

All of them. These are all additional cars that aren't included in the base game, no matter how many in game credits you have you can't buy them.

Alright, thanks. The wording of the packs with the whole free, one-time stuff makes it seem like you can purchase it otherwise.

No the reason they include that wording was because in the older games you would buy the DLC car pack but maybe you couldn't afford to buy them in game. So people were spending their hard earned real $ and not even being able to use the cars.

They responded to the costumers for once and made all DLC cars free in game
