Some notes
  • You cannot currently buy any Xbox 360 content on xbox.com using your account balance, you can only use an active credit card or PayPal. To use your balance, you must make purchases on your console.  Unfortunately, even "purchasing" free content through the web site like trials requires an alternative method of payment tied to your account, though adding an empty MasterCard / Visa gift card that is registered for online purchases will work.  Xbox One games can be purchased on the web site with your account balance.
  • Some sales are intended for Gold subscribers only, as noted within each section.
On Xbox One, Gold trials of any length work for sales and Games with Gold.  You must be an active Gold subscriber (paid or trial) to play Games with Gold purchases.
  • On Xbox 360, you must have at least a 1 month Gold subscription for sales and Games with Gold.  Neither 48 hour trials, 14 day trials nor free weekends qualify.

Get a month of game pass and play Doom and Halo 5 as well as Gears 4 all in 4K with glorious HDR, also by then Forza Horizon 4 will be in game pass
I'm not a true CAG. (or maybe I am?) I already own all of those and have Game Pass til next July. So just get the updates I guess?

Also, are we certain Horizon 4 will immediately go on Gamepass? None of the Microsoft acquisitions from E3 have gone on Game Pass yet, right? Or was that announced and I forgot?

all MS published first party stuff is game pass day 1, those acquisitions and their "current" games are a different thing. They were developers who already had publishing deals in place for their games with other companies

Whoever was asking about best games to showcase 4K/HDR, the first game I played that blew me away was Assassin's Creed Origins. The amount of detail compared to the S is astonishing.

Gears 4 and Battlefront 2 are breathtaking as well.

Still rocking that matte white Sunset Overdrive SE VCR! I'd love to spring for an X, but explain the need for better graphics to the Mrs.
It's why I preordered the Fallout XB1X, it's easier justifying the purchase if I'm not dropping 500+ at one time. It also helps that our son is getting older and she wants him to have his own gaming space. (The XBox is in our bedroom because we use it the most.)

What do y’all think of the rumored “All Access” plan? I’m a bit surprised by it considering they just put out these bundles but I’d actually prefer this new idea.

It sounds a lot like those plans they had a while back for the 360, just without a down payment and incorporating GamePass.

https://www.theverge.com/2012/5/2/2993600/99-xbox-360-kinect-subsidized-bundle

The sources are saying $34.99 for 24 months for the X version, so $840.

Xbox One X + 2 years(?) gold + 2 years(?) GamePass

500 + 120 + 200 = 820

I guess it's not too bad if you're fine paying retail for everything, and with doing long-term installments instead of a lump sum. The S version is a better deal. $22 payments, totaling about $590.

I've got two thoughts. First, this seems to be something MS likes to do late in the lifespan of a console. Xbone is 5 years old, the 360 was 6 when this option came out. It would without be MUCH more appealing if something like this came out at or close to the launch of generation. Second, two year long plans will either have this plan end right as the new consoles release or very close to this. Then you're either stuck on the old system or in the same "I want the new console" zone again.

Realistically, this sort of thing isn't aimed at us. I couldn't see myself using something like this unless it was when a console first came out, and only then because it does take the sting for $500+ all at once away, but we all know it's possible to do much better than $320 for the 2 years of Gold and GamePass so it's easy to feel like it isn't as good a price as it sounds. Still, I don't think it will move all that many consoles. The PS4 is still annihilating Xbox in consoles sold, and at this point in the gen I don't see that changing. Both kids and adults generally want the PS4 and having a payment plan option won't influence that for most people.

But it isn't a rip off. I just checked Rent A Center and their "rent to own" price on an X makes me want to throw up. This doesn't include Gold or GamePass either.

6 Months Same as Cash Price: $1,079.00 or
$108.30 monthly for 17 payments: Total price: $1,799.28

u know what would be a cool feature on the xbox one..is to be able to group your friends into groups of what games u play with them
Any chance I get I've been suggesting that to MS for probably five years or so now. Bing Polls, Insider polls, anything. I look thru my friends list and sometimes I have no idea which game I was playing with some people.

I hate doing these YMMV posts but every once in a while someone sees something they'd have missed.

YMMV: Just recieved an email from the Microsoft Store giving me a 5$ GC. Email subject was “Attention: You made the list for this exclusive offer” which is about as phishing sounding as these have ever sounded. Anyway might want to check you spam folders and what not.

It doesn't seem like a bad deal for the average consumer who buys stuff at MSRP, no price gouging at least. I was actually hoping the "all access" plan was going to be the rumored combination of gold and game pass. I still think we'll get there eventually with MS's plans to build Xbox as a platform brand and get it on all sorts of devices besides a dedicated console. Eventually they are going to have to at least change the language of what "Xbox Live" means, history shows paying for online multiplayer access isn't going to fly on the PC at the very least. If they really want to penetrate that market it's going to have to be something like the app is $19 a month and has every benefit.

The xbox brand is becoming a gaming streaming service. That's their future plan as internet speed becomes faster and 5G for phones, its only a matter of time. You can tell they're headed this way by allowing digital xbox games to be played on pc too just by using the xbox app. Seems like MS is changing direction on where they wanna go, which is streaming games cause the technology is almost there for it to be very reliable compared to 5 years ago. Why bother buying a console when you can install a xbox app on any phone, laptop, tablet, notebook, mac pc and even Smart tv's that can play games in 4k 60 fps pretty much anywhere? No hard drive is needed, nor anything else really maybe besides a controller and look how many different controller colors MS has put out since the xbox one came out. They even give us the option to make our own authentic MS custom controllers and keep making new variations of it cause it's probably the only hardware we'll ever want to use with xbox stream gaming. Those are my thoughts about this.

Anybody having problems with the Division?

I tried to fast travel to the main safe house and it froze, I had to quit then reload. I load back up, get error then I try load again and it goes through to the game where the same keeps happening. I though I would try fast travel somewhere else and it worked, so I fast travel to mission close the the main safe house.

I go in and there is some sort of bug or something as something is definitely wrong, the base is practically empty. I would post a photo but I can't get it to upload for some reason.

Yup. The rumors are that next generation they will be releasing two consoles. A regular console and a thin client that will stream the games. I think it's a smart move.

I had the white Minecraft S. Wife hated it was white. Would occasionally comment that it sticks out like a sore thumb. So week before last I said to her I think we should trade it in on a black XBox One X. lol.

She was like do really need to spend $200+ to get a black console? I was like no I have some credit I can add to it.

Bet she doesn't bitch about the color of any console again. :)

As long as MS keeps the option to buy a machine that lets me install and play games locally I'm fine with a streaming option. I still don't think it'll be viable to switch to streaming as the main option for a while. Even with my OK internet some games (Halo 5, Gears 4, Overwatch) seem to struggle sometimes if I play off of wi-fi instead of a physical connection. Maybe in smaller countries with great coverage like Japan and South Korea, but the US just has too shitty of an infrastructure and is going to hampered further by the death of net neutrality. With NN gone, it seems likely that customers are going to be affected in one way or another if gaming companies pay for "better support" like Netflix does.

Working in a retail I'm still surprised how many people turn away from games that require internet, both for online play and simple patch installs like BC games. I don't know the overall percentage or if it's just the area I'm in, but it's probably 10-15% here.

Just don't let her know that skins are a thing I guess.

She wouldn't care for some crazy design (and neither would I to be honest). I really didn't like the white console either but it was cheap and I wanted to upgrade from the black VCR I had at the time. I am pretty sure I paid $189 for it and got $250 for it (ok credit not real money).

I wonder if some of those people have crappy wifi and the console is in a kids room or basement and the parents will not fix the bad wifi or have cable pulled. I know for a while I had crappy wifi in the basement and had to address that before setting up my consoles down there. Also maybe parents who don't want their kids playing online and not wanting to pay for Gold/PSN. I know a few adults who like single player games and don't mess with online games very much.

And I get that many areas of the country are lucky to get crappy DSL or low data caps so makes sense for them not to want always on games.

When my fiancé tries to game-shame me, I turn around and remind her about the bags of clothing in our closet with tags still on them. The conversation ends and we both feel like winners lmao

Don't worry. Once you're married, you'll find a way to do this without any conversation and also both of you will feel like losers in the end. Much to look forward to in your happy union ahead!

With my wife's fabric stash I know the feeling all too well. I count 21 totes, a majority 24x16x12.

Started replaying Nier Automatica on my X after double dipping and forgot what a pain in the ass the first part is. It’s not overly difficult but I wasn’t paying attention and managed to die during that battle on the bridge towards the end. Hate that you have to start all over at that point.

What do y’all think of the rumored “All Access” plan? I’m a bit surprised by it considering they just put out these bundles but I’d actually prefer this new idea.
I'd like to know how they handle someone like myself, that has a Gold and a Game Pass subscription both expiring in 2019? Will they just add the two years to those balances? How will their repayment go? Do I have to make the 24 payments? Or can I start it up and then pay the balance off in a large chunk?

This definitely isn't aimed at a lot of people on this site. People that only purchase a Gold sub when they can get it on a discount. Or better yet, people who translate their bing points into Gold subs. Seems like a hard sale for the type of savvy your typical person has around here. I'd be all over it for sure if it was the NextBox coming out.

It's probably some percentage, but bad iternet is different from no internet. Even with a wonky wi-fi connection you should at least be able to get games downloaded/installed/patched without to many issues. As for the Gold/PS+ angle, it certainly exists but wasn't what I was referring to. Working at TRU, you'd see people from all walks of life come in during Christmas time. To try to minimize borked holidays I'd always make it clear what internet-based restrictions consoles and games would have, and occasionally the requirement Xbox One used to (maybe still?) had to activate a console by connecting it online during initial setup (to remove always online DRM and Kinect requirements) would be a deal breaker. For some they would ask how feasible it would be to take to it a friend's or whatever to deal with this requirement too.

I can definitely see people with datacaps being wary of the current gen as well, but I don't think that's much of a factor here. It's pretty much Comcast only here, and their 1TB cap isn't an issue for most people it seems. In theory buying physical alleviates the issue, though a lot of games have such massive updates it's hard to bet on this.

But at this point, everyone knows that practically every device requires an internet connection. Honestly doubt many people have their video game console of choice offline. Also, with massive updates being thing now, there isn't much of a difference in owning the gaming on disc or digitally in that regards (unless someone makes a conscious decision of playing unpatched games for whatever the reason).

I remember back in 2013, all my PlayStation-only friends saying they would keep their PS4's offline for.....reasons (shitty reasons if I might add). No them did it in the end back then, none of them do right now.

More than once I have heard a kid telling their mom that they want an Xbox One, while at GameStop. Then the employee says that an Xbox One requires a constant internet connection and the PS4 does not. Then the mom says she isn't paying for internet and makes the kid get the PS4.

Incorrect info from people that should know better is great. Amazing Gamestop employees.

I remember as a kid going to an ebgames and asking the worker about an N64 game and the answer they gave me told me they barely knew anything about games. It was like realizing Santa Claus isn't real. From then on, I knew just because someone worked at a video game store didn't mean they knew anything about video games.

I think that argument is slowly losing as more and more people cut the cord and stream 1080p/4K/4K HDR content to multiple devices for multiple hours every day. Especially if in the near future you're streaming entire games to multiple consoles at the same time. It will be a nightmare for us. When I got my X in November, I blew through 600gb in 12 hours of sporadic downloading. I had to take my X to my parent's house to finish my downloads. And I had a very small collection of 360 titles and only a couple games for the One at that point, since I didn't have a One before the X. I've started utilizing my neighbor's Comcast hotspot so I can connect to my parent's account to use their bandwidth to download games and patches very slowly overnight just to not go over my cap every month. I also take advantage of free rentals from Redbox. If there is a game I figure I'll buy in the future, I'll rent it for free from Redbox just so I don't have to download that much data. My girlfriend who lives with me also has an S, so that means double the bandwidth. I have to keep transferring everything from my console to hers over the network to save that bandwidth, which Microsoft designed poorly and therefore takes longer than necessary to select the appropriate titles.

Needless to say so long as data caps exist I will never own a streaming only game console. Unless I didn't have to pay for the console, the games, or any services required. Then I could afford unlimited bandwidth. :whistle2:

Did the same on my very first playthrough. I wasn't very happy, though I ended up loving the game.

Similarly, I heard some female co-workers talking about how they all wanted a Switch, they all had Wiis, and one bought a PS4 for their kids because the Xbox doesn't have family-friendly games, to which the others agreed. I just listened, smiled, and screamed a bit on the inside.

I have encountered tons of people on reddit who believe you have to download the entire game even if you buy the disc, I think people don't know the difference between an install and a download

this was true for a long time (not sure if it's changed). unless you knew "the trick", the console would download the game instead of installing from disc.

pretty sure it's always installed from the disc. But if there's an update (which every game has plenty now) it downloads and copies from disc at the same time. The trick was only to let you install the game first and then go online to download the update after.

I will never buy a streaming only console unless that's the only option.  When I'm done with a game, I don't replay it so owning games mean nothing to me.  I like discs so I can sell or trade them when I'm done.  Even if I'm only getting $5 back, that's still five more dollars than if I had bought digital.
