Some notes
  • You cannot currently buy any Xbox 360 content on xbox.com using your account balance, you can only use an active credit card or PayPal. To use your balance, you must make purchases on your console.  Unfortunately, even "purchasing" free content through the web site like trials requires an alternative method of payment tied to your account, though adding an empty MasterCard / Visa gift card that is registered for online purchases will work.  Xbox One games can be purchased on the web site with your account balance.
  • Some sales are intended for Gold subscribers only, as noted within each section.
On Xbox One, Gold trials of any length work for sales and Games with Gold.  You must be an active Gold subscriber (paid or trial) to play Games with Gold purchases.
  • On Xbox 360, you must have at least a 1 month Gold subscription for sales and Games with Gold.  Neither 48 hour trials, 14 day trials nor free weekends qualify.

It's not that simple with hand-drawn assets unless they are created with 4K in mind from the get go. This is why games like Cuphead, The Banner Saga, and Skullgirls don't have real 4K support. The art literally has to be drawn again, creating higher quality assets is more expensive. With Skullgirls, they actually did think to future proof as they created the art at 1440p and downscaled to 720. Though it seems this was in case they reused the sprites for a sequel as I don't think these bigger sprites ever made it to any of the official releases. Hollow Knight was created on a tiny Kickstarter budget originally planned just for Steam and Wii U four years ago. I'm not surprised they didn't anticipate a demand for 4K. Honestly I can't think of any 2D animation that's being created in native 4K yet, for video games or western cartoons. As far as I've heard, there is a total of ONE anime that was created in 4K, the OVA Mobile Suit Gundam Thunderbolt: December Sky, and it's 4K Bluray only came out in Japan.

A 4K upscale won't do much of anything for animation created at 1080, I think the best you could hope for with enhancements to something like Hollow Knight would be if it used some kind of effects that aren't drawn, like lighting or whatever. Pixel based graphics are a different story, which is why Sonic Mania was enhanced, though I don't know how much of a difference it really makes.
This was legit informative as fuck. Now talk about why Spider-man on PS4 is the best game ever.

Forza Motorsport 7 has an update for Experimental Drag Race. There is a Forzathon to complete 3 races for 180K.  You have a few weeks to complete it.

I knocked that out in ten minutes last night. I really like that new drag mode. Requires a lot more finesse than drag has had in Forza before.

Anyword on if hollow Knight will be digital only?
Physical is coming Spring 2019.

To add: My laptop had some input lag and Steam forums suggested to turn down lighting and lower resolution. The effects are noticeable, but I see almost no difference between 720p and 1080p, the HD assets and animations are gorgeous regardless. Kinda like if you tried to increase the resolution on Rayman Origins or Legends - it won't look any better at 4k than it already does.

They could potentially add HDR. Honestly, though, the game is a work of art as-is.

Regarding the broken quest in Microsoft Rewards, I got an email back from their support yesterday asking for a screenshot of what happens when I claim the offer. I already told them it shows as claimed, but doesn't register to the punch card. So I informed them again it already showed completed so it was impossible to take a screenshot of what happens when I try to claim it. I also had to inform them a screenshot of the offer in any form was impossible because it is completely gone from my Rewards App dashboard. Ugh. Fix your shit Microsoft.

Any thoughts on Crash Bandicoot trilogy?
Thinking my kids might like it, but feels like a risk.

It looks pretty, but it's hard as fuck as in expect to see Game Over screen alot because the game didn't modernize the checkpoint and lives system meaning if you die you gotta restart the level, checkpoints and progress prior be damned and there are alot of cheap deaths.

I bought it when it first released on the PS4 thinking my kids, now 5 and 6, would play it. They did, for and hour and haven't touched it since. I think they got frustrated and gave up.

I know is not the same, but after watching the Apple thing with the new iPhones (the cheapest one starting at $749), why do people complain about a $500 console like the 1X? Good Lord.

I don't see myself, EVER, paying up to $1099 for a phone (and that's for the lowest storage capacity models).

You can't compare a phone which I use all day in every aspect of my life to a gaming console I use a couple of hours a week to play games. Come on.

Sent from my SM-N950U using Tapatalk

Yeah you wrote that but still compared them.
Well, both kinda relate into spending money and priorities. Besides, many people here have in the past have many similar comparisons. Hell, once the Xbox E3 2017 briefing ended, many folks that you never see here, came to inform us about their spending habits and how many other non-gaming related stuff they could buy with $500. Don't see a problem with that.

I don't see a problem either. I was adding more to the discussion as I didn't feel the comparison was fair.

Until you can look at HD porn on the toilet with your xbox, phones have more value.

And I agree that it isn't. The whole thing reminded me of all the others who were/felt outraged over the $500 price tag for the 1X when there's stuff that is much more expensive that some people actually, and gladly in some cases, pay for it.

Indeed :whistle2:

I guess it was sticker shock. Lol. I'm still shocked that the new phone is $1100 for the one I want. It's insane that it cost that much but when I think about how much I use my phone it's not that bad. I also have a good amount of disposable income. Some people don't.

It actually does have checkpoints when it recognizes that you've died a bunch in a level, so it'll create one to help you out.

because people are paying $40/month and not $540 immediately. I'm sure the All Access plan for xbox will definitely be tempting now for a lot of people at $35/month with 0% interest.

Just received another email. "We understand that you're having an issue completing the point's crusader. On this note the offer states that you have to log in to your Xbox account for 10 days." These people are fucking idiots.

Phones get a pass (however absurd) because 1) they are a modern necessity and virtually everyone has a cell phone now and 2) MSRP costs are subsidized through upgrade plans and phone contracts. Only a small percentage of consumers actually pay that much for their phones (at least in one lump sum), but there are certainly idiots with too much money a handful of people who line up on release day to buy the newest iteration.

Apple in particular also makes their perfectly good 2-4 year old tech artificially obsolete by refusing OS updates on old hardware, and apps eventually stop working on old versions, creating a much larger market for upgrades that otherwise wouldn't exist.

Don't have the main game, but I see it's on sale now for $6. I looked at the list of past Games with Gold and I don't see it there. I'm tempted to get it right now, but it could end up as GwG within months (and I have a backlog on both 360 and One). What do y'all think? How likely is it to be GwG? Or is $6 a steal? Will the servers say up when Battlefield V comes out? :whistle2:k
GwG is a total crapshoot. There's no telling about anything, except maybe the annual Forza that's about to be delisted. $6 is 90% off and a good value for the single player. That said, BF prices have returned in later sales as 4 and Hardline often go on sale for very low so if your backlog is really full you could wait for GwG or get a sale another time. As far as I know only BF3 has gone GwG from the BF games and all BF servers are still up for current gen and most or all last gen. Servers will be up for awhile for 1.

This is why Microsoft is brilliant if they can implement it in a meaningful way. People are accustomed to monthly payments and would pay $1000 for an Xbox if the monthly payments are the right amount for them. I don't care how much you love and use your phone, many of us would not upgrade nearly as often if we only had a pay in full option and only saw that big dollar price tag rather than the monthly price- and I don't think it's about basic affordability for some as it is just the sticker shock. Many people would stay satisfied with their current hardware for much longer.

We have owned a bunch of iPhones here at work 5,5s, 6, 6s and 7, and 8. None were obsoleted or denied iOS updates only 2 years after release.

4 or 5 years of OS releases since the 5s (Which is STILL current 5 years later).

They are typically better with updates then any Android phone.

Apple is starting to name their phones like golf balls... do I get the iPhone XR or a Titleist ProV1X? But wait, the Bridgestone BXRS is good too.

As long as you ignore the whole battery slowdown BS they've been pulling, sure. Meanwhile us Android users can update our OS years after official support for the phone is dropped with custom ROMs, and our battery doesn't affect anything.

Heh, some Android phones let you swap out the batteries when they run low!

Apple was a good introduction to the whole concept of smart devices... I had an iPod Touch before I had an Android anything. But nearly ten years later, I'm not so sure I'd want to go back. They're pretty fond of the concept of planned obsolescence and I can't get onboard with that line of thought. This planet does not need more e-junk.

Just received another email. "We understand that you're having an issue completing the point's crusader. On this note the offer states that you have to log in to your Xbox account for 10 days." These people are fucking idiots.
How did people already log in for 10 days when this just started a few days ago?

Apple in particular also makes their perfectly good 2-4 year old tech artificially obsolete by refusing OS updates on old hardware, and apps eventually stop working on old versions, creating a much larger market for upgrades that otherwise wouldn't exist.
This is absolutely not true. iPhone 5S (came out in 2013) is going to be getting the iOS 12 upgrade.

Only android fragment OS updates by dropping support for 3-4 year old devices.

So is this really happening, guys?  The Xbox thread that one might assume would bicker about Xbox vs. Playstation is actually instead arguing over iPhone vs. Android?

Seems the Quest was available on the "Earn" page a week earlier but not many noticed or mentioned it. The majority of us seems to have found out through an email we received a few days ago.

We accept most discussions as long as it doesn't go for too long.

I don't know what it is about Elex. I've been eyeing it since launch. Last time it was on sale for 30 and it was just enough to keep me away but at 18 I think that's the right price to give it a shot for me. Going to end up with that, Titan Quest and Battlefield 1. Giving away premium for it was the slight push I needed.

To stay on topic I'll say that Spider-Man looks amazing and that I'll probably grab that this weekend because I have absolutely no self control.

So what was the consensus on countdowns?  Update periodically during the week, or just wait to get the disappointment over with in one shot on Sunday or Monday?

Whenever you have free time and/or want to make us suffer. You are the one doing the actual work, anyone who doesnt want to know can skip the spoiler and move on.
