Some notes
  • You cannot currently buy any Xbox 360 content on xbox.com using your account balance, you can only use an active credit card or PayPal. To use your balance, you must make purchases on your console.  Unfortunately, even "purchasing" free content through the web site like trials requires an alternative method of payment tied to your account, though adding an empty MasterCard / Visa gift card that is registered for online purchases will work.  Xbox One games can be purchased on the web site with your account balance.
  • Some sales are intended for Gold subscribers only, as noted within each section.
On Xbox One, Gold trials of any length work for sales and Games with Gold.  You must be an active Gold subscriber (paid or trial) to play Games with Gold purchases.
  • On Xbox 360, you must have at least a 1 month Gold subscription for sales and Games with Gold.  Neither 48 hour trials, 14 day trials nor free weekends qualify.

Speaking of jobs. Would you stay at a job that pays a lot less than you're accustomed to but it's a very prestigious company to work for, or would you leave that job to go work for a way smaller name company that pays a lot more than what you're currently making?

The company will pay for 95% of my expenses.
For 95% (!!!!!!!!!!!!), I would do it in a heartbeat. You could do it part time. Two nights a week. See if weekend classes exist. If possible, make sure to space out different types of classes (i.e., don't take two at the same session that involves a ton of writing). 95% is hard to pass up. Could seriously boost your earning potential if you decide to go elsewhere for almost no cost (aside from time) to you!!!

Depends. How will having the prestigious name on your resume help you? If you're using it to get into a good grad school or to pivot into something else in the future (e.g., relocating; moving to another related industry where that name is well respected, like perhaps from corporate to academic setting), then yes, go for the name. Otherwise, no, go for the money.

Prestige is kind of subjective. But, the agency I'm working for now is really well-known and respected, so just getting hired here is a big deal and will carry weight in future positions. That's not the reason I'm here, though, it's more of a bonus. The field I'm in, I'm not in it for the money anyway, I just like helping people, so long as I can pay my bills and have a decent standard of living.

And buy videogames.

I admire that. I worked with children with autism for years, and finally decided that I couldn't do it anymore. It was just so draining and stressful that I had no time to take care of myself. Would've been fine if I were single, but now being married, nope.

What's the longest layoff anyone has taken from a game before they jumped back in? I haven't played the Witcher 3 in probably 2 years, and always told myself I'd complete it someday. Got to the part where I finally get sent to Skellige, and then checked my completion percentage lol. I played for 120 hours and only got a fraction of a way through the game haha.

I got out my Colecovision a few years ago and got back to playing a few of those games (Donkey Kong, Donkey Kong Jr., Venture, etc.) . Does that count? Think it probably was about 30 years.

Yeah, if your job wants to front $30k for you to get a degree, that's hard to say no to.
Honest engine- I took a $21k loan out for college. Paid it back in 6 years but if a company would offer to front the money, I would have jumped at it.

I think it helps to work for a prestigious company once for the connections/association on your resume/LinkedIn, but only so much as to showcase to potential employers that you're a catch/can do the job. After that, pursue opportunities that are rewarding to you

Ocarina of Time, 15 years.
Got me beat. I think mine was Final Fantasy: 4 years (start --> completion) .
Bulletstorm may edge it out though- started that in 2010 and no progress has been made.

If I hook up the N64 and start up Hybrid Heaven or Space Station Silicon Valley, that's about 17-18 years. Always intended to go back and finish off those games, as well as deal with some of the deeper recesses of the backlog. I don't think I ever unlocked the extra missions in Goldeneye, either.

Been about 3+ years since I touched Borderlands 2 and the PreSequel, and I will definitely finish off the DLCs in those. Um, maybe.

Just went to look at my profile on the website to see some games with long gaps and world of warcraft and lord of the rings online show up? Surprised it's not just windows app store games that show up.

I looked at 100% achievement games between the first and last achievement since I probably couldn't think of any games I started pre 360 and took ages to finish. There are a lot of games I started and haven't finished as far back as NES that I could, and probably should, go back and beat.

Titanfall: 3 years

Red Dead: 4 years

Castle Crashers: 6 years 4 months

Hmm, I never beat Battletoads on the NES and have fired it up in Rare Replay. Would that count for a quarter century range?

I'd say so, unless you want to be picky and say it should be the same save file! I've never beaten the first Zelda, that'd be close to 25 years as well since I probably didn't play it until 94 probably.

even with rewind battletoads is near impossible on rare replay because rewind on the rat race doesnt actually work, unless it got patched
IIRC, it's basically because that rat is at a consistent speed while you are aren't.

Clinger Winger damn near broke me on Xbox One. That stupid stage is somehow completely different in every single possible version of Battletoads (including PC/PSP emulation).

I was stuck there for the longest time, eventually powered through it and actually beat the game. I ended up going with the method of rapidly pausing and getting the perfect corners. Stolen from TrueAchievements who took it from some youtube video.

""SECRET TO BEATING THIS LEVEL!!! I tried beating this level for 4 hours on my emulator and could not do it. I was using an xbox 360 controller and/or the keyboard with ROM save ability. I still couldn't do it. But then I figured out a trick. In order to gain speed on the corners, you MUST execute a frame perfect press on the D pad. For those of you that aren't familiar with the term "frame perfect", there are 60 frames per second. You have to hit the exact 1/60 perfect frame to go faster. VERY hard. But there's a way to make sure you hit that frame every time. It's called PAUSE BUFFERING. As soon as you get to a corner press pause. If you pause at the exact right frame, you'll see the "locomotive" turn 45 degrees and toad will longer be holding onto it. Unpause while holding the button of the new direction toad will be traveling in and you'll get a little speed boost. Do this for every corner and quickly the electric ball wont even be on the screen anymore. The level is easily beaten that way. I used the ROM save ability after every corner in case I didn't hit the pause button perfectly every time. I hope this helps save you from hours of struggling and good luck on your courageous quest to beat the hardest game ever made!""

Like this post to enter a drawing for a 1 year XBL Gold code. Two winners will be drawn around 8pm Eastern Friday.
Using the list randomizer on random.org, the winners are praxus07 and Moopderp. I also have a 1 month code, which will go to Guest Number 2.

Thanks everyone for entering and keeping this a fun little corner of the 'Net.

And who the fuck is Guest Number 2?

If you want advice from a (relatively) old fart (41) I'll give you some. It really doesnt matter where you work previously, other than *maybe* it might catch one person's eye. Truthfully, it's more about *what* you do than *where* you do it.

From a personal standpoint, I feel the 'secret' is finding a job that you can go to everyday and not want to kill yourself and that isn't killing you. I've been at my same job, doing about the same thing for almost 19 years now. The pay is good (6 figures) though it wasnt always (~30k, fresh out of school), but at no point in the last two decades have I dreaded going to work. Sure, there are days I want to sit on my ass and do nothing, but no job would change that. When I'm at work, I generally find the work suits my personality, I'm good at it and I can go home not worried about what tomorrow will bring.

I had better offers out of school - took about a 10k /year + cost of living demotion coming here, but the 'other' things that came with the job were more important (e.g. living in DC rather than Ohio). So I'd suggest that finding an opportunity that meshes with your personality and allows you to pursue your medium-long term goals is the most important thing. I wouldnt get caught up in a name. There are chances to learn in the smallest situations and chances to stagnate in the blue chippers.

Thank you Soooo Much, this is Awesome! I appreciate it so much!!!

I never use the torque bow,and am not great with it, gonna get the 5 wins but don't think I'm grinding out 100 kills
I used to be good with it back in Gears 1 and 2. Now, not so much. Like you, I'll get the five wins easy, but 100 kills I probably won't bother with.
The Flaming Torque was an award back in November during the 11th anniversary events, needed to win 5 rounds of Torque Bow Tag and get 50 Torque kills. I got the skin then, and some of you may also already have it. Unfortunately, they gave the second chance opportunity to the easier objective.

I'm not very good with the Torque, either. Though according to the Master at Arms tracker, it's actually my 4th highest weapon after Gnasher, Boom and Lancer. 157 isn't a lot by any measure, but I'm a bit surprised it's that high for a weapon I generally avoid in Vs., even in AI matches.

Thank you! I never played this series

gamestop has Splinter cell conviction for 2.99 so I grabbed a copy, was surprised to find it mint and not disc only, I'm pretty terrible at stealth games so hopefully the mark and execute system makes it easier for me

My PS4 Pro is loud as heck.  Never noticed before, but I left the room with the game on pause, came back and thought the air conditioner was blowing

My non-pro is incredibly loud as well when it’s playing any graphically intensive game. Makes me appreciate how quiet my X is (and my S before it).
