Some notes
  • You cannot currently buy any Xbox 360 content on xbox.com using your account balance, you can only use an active credit card or PayPal. To use your balance, you must make purchases on your console.  Unfortunately, even "purchasing" free content through the web site like trials requires an alternative method of payment tied to your account, though adding an empty MasterCard / Visa gift card that is registered for online purchases will work.  Xbox One games can be purchased on the web site with your account balance.
  • Some sales are intended for Gold subscribers only, as noted within each section.
On Xbox One, Gold trials of any length work for sales and Games with Gold.  You must be an active Gold subscriber (paid or trial) to play Games with Gold purchases.
  • On Xbox 360, you must have at least a 1 month Gold subscription for sales and Games with Gold.  Neither 48 hour trials, 14 day trials nor free weekends qualify.

[*]All known sales and information on sales should make their way into the OP. Major Nelson usually updates his blog with new sales information every Tuesday.
[*]ALL OFFERS ARE SUBJECT TO CHANGE! No information within this thread can or should be construed as accurate (or still valid), therefore ...

Went to buy some cheap OG Xbox games on Gamestop's site and the prices were ranging from 2.99 to 6.99 and then when I went to checkout they shot up to 9.99 or more. fuck Gamestop for price gouging.
I don't see how it's price gouging. The value of the game increased because it's playable on more systems, demand for it increased, and the announcement as built-in advertising. A copy of Jade Empire is worth more now than it was a month ago, even digitally.

This is going to be more of the same bullshit with no credit purchases isn't it? Pulled up Ninja Gaiden Black and it gave the 360-like purchase screen.

Damn, they did raise them. Glad I ordered when I did a few days after the announcement.

Here’s just the few that I bought and how much they went up (prices in parentheses are what I paid with Pro Elite).

Morrowind $2.99 ($2.39) —> $9.99
Blinx $2.99 ($2.39)—> $9.99
KOTOR 2 $9.99 ($7.99)—> $19.99
Jedi Academy $14.99 ($11.99) —> $19.99
Conker Live & Reloaded $19.99 ($15.99) —> $29.99

I choked at what I paid for Conker in particular but was trying to get to the $35 free shipping and figured it still worked out to about $8 a game with tax.

But if I ordered now....yikes.

Of course, if they go on sale digitally and I want to convert, trade in prices will be higher so there’s that.

Price gouging is when someone raise the price of a bag of ice from $1 to $10 during a power outage.
When gamestop increases the price of a game $5-10 after its made backwards compatible that's just a business model. This happens literally every week when the announcement is made by major Nelson. Sometimes they do if within a couple hours sometimes a couple days. Thus time they waited several days before the increase do you had plenty of time if you were interested

Seriously disappointed there was no mention in here of Art Bell passing away Friday night!
Yeah. Where are all the people who were making such a big deal about him being included in the original Prey? Bunch of name droppers... Oh, maybe that was just you. 😀

Yeah, I’m not disagreeing with the supply and demand price changes. I’m just glad I got in early. Had expected them to go up right away like they normally do after BC announcements.

I bought them fearing some might not get digital versions but looks like they probably all will. Not sure yet about some of the SW games.

Still worked out to be paying a bit less overall for the five games I got vs digital.

I'm hoping the MS published games go to Game Pass eventually, even if they wait awhile to allow for some sales first. I don't know if I want to pay $10 per game to (re)visit some of these games, but I'd absolutely give them a spin on Game Pass.

This makes a lot of sense. Even if they limit it to only a few titles at a time and rotate the selection of available games.

Just not sure how this generates revenue for whoever holds the rights to the game, and of its sufficient compared to sales of the game. Not that it couldn't work. I'm just withholding judgement die to lack of information.

That's why we got all those start wars OG xbox games. Disney was totally forthcoming because they need to make back the $4.6 billion they spent to get the star wars franchise just to break even, and then turn a profit on top of that. That's why we're getting all kinds of star wars (and marvel) media and paraphernalia to the hilt. Regardless of quality.

So are any of the new BC games preloading? Just tried Panzer Dragoon Orta to get a head start but getting the “game isn’t playable here” message. Thought someone said Morrowind was installing but don’t have it yet.

Edit: same message for Jade Empire.

Yeah, that was my thought too - Disney jumped at the chance to have a new market for old games they didn't even pay to develop or promote for a popular brand. I'm honestly surprised (but not exactly complaining) they haven't forced out new SW games at the same rate they've been churning out movies.

For popular licenses, brand exposure is free marketing, whether by GWG or GP. I also assume MS is paying them something for having a game on their service, same as Netflix, which makes me wonder how profitable GP is right now vs if its strictly a long-term plan.

9 am pst 4/17/18. So more like 22.5 hours to go
Wait, what?

Oh, I see how you could be right....

Brand new games are always made available right at midnight Eastern on release...but these are officially back-compat games, which don't show up until 9am Pacific on Tuesdays or Thursdays.

Dude, you just un-made my day. Shame on you!

Dammit! Major Nelson also confirmed this on Twitter. Had hoped to be playing at midnight tonight. Guess tomorrow night it is.

fuck Wal-mart, they flagged my CC since the PS4 was over a $250 limit. Had to contact my CC company get that straighten that out then turn around and resubmit my payment info. Problem with that is Wal-mart still had my CC flagged on their end. I called in and was told that they would need to cancel the order and I would have to reorder. I told them that the item is OOS everywhere and I couldn't reorder. All I got was sorry but we'll cancel the order anyways since your CC was flagged.  fuck was really looking forward towards this.

I had a problem once upon a time with walmart.com. I had the Witcher III Collector's Edition on pre-order from them and I had a sizeable gift card saved to my account. Somehow someone broke into my account, changed the email address on the account, and ordered hundreds of dollars of gift cards to be shipped to their address. In order for support to change the email address back to mine, they would have to cancel the pre-order, which was long sold out. Which is curious, because how was the guy that broke into my account able to change the email address without cancelling the preorder? The preorder was cancelled, even though they assured me it wouldn't be, and I had to scramble to find another one.

I had an issue with Walmart in dec 2015, ordered a wiiu on Black Friday and payment wouldn’t go through cause I accidentally got my card flagged by trying to click order too many times but there was an option where I could pay in store so I clicked it and went the next day and paid at the register.

So we were going to the hospital all day everyday cause my newborn was in the NICU so ups left it outside and we never got it, so we contact Walmart customer service and they tell us since I paid in store we have to get the refund there, problem is the store manager says she never heard of that option being available but kept saying she believed us even though you could tell she thought we were trying to scam them.

Took 3 months of them going back n forth between saying we had to handle it at the store and walmart.com before my wife filed a complaint with the BBB for them to finally handle it smh.

Swore I wasn’t gonna order from them again then like 2 months ago they had the deal to get an X1 controller and 3 months of live for $42, I only did the deal to get the 3 month extra since I wanted a different color than they were offering but then they cancelled the 3 month code and only gave $5 back I was fucking pissed and ended up buying a sea of Thieves controller and don’t even use the one I got from Walmart.

Moral of the story...

There are retail establishments worse then Game Stop.

I really try to steer clear of Walmart as much as possible. They are the worst.

If you’re looking to move that controller lemme know, mines on the way out

I don’t know. Selling opened games as new still takes tops for me.
Yeah not a big fan of that. I don't buy very many new games there. I have GCU. Far Cry 5 I bought with credit last month. Same with Assassin's Creed Origins and Shadow of War (Thanksgiving). I think those might be all my new game purchases there over the last two years.

Shadow of War was open. It was for me so not too big a deal. Never even played it traded it back later.

After I got an Xbox one, I’ve inly bought 3 physical games, all from Redbox. So I haven’t been to gamestop in many years, last thing I bought from GS was Scrubs season 1 2 and 3 at a buy 1 get 2 dvd sale

ALso as someone who worked previously, a lot of the new games are not new at all and are “resealed”. If you want a new game make sure the plastic has corners and no stretch when you run your fingers on it

I don’t buy games new from GS either. Use GCU. Avoid GS as much as I can. In fact, hadn’t gone there in years until I bought a used Wii U package with BoTW late last year. Then got roped into a few trade deals where it made sense to have their Elite Pro. Now I generally only go in when I get those monthly coupons or something else I can’t get anywhere else.

Best Buy still rules the roost for me when it comes to new games.

Not a fan of gamestop's gutted new copy practice. Remember no one's forcing you to buy a product, choice is often in the hands of the consumer, as several people have stated. I really think that last copy should be sold as used. Sometimes if you ask they'll give you a 10% discount on open copies.

GameStop is great for me, I go there at least once a week to buy Microsoft currency. Instead of having to buy a $15 or $25 card at Walmart I can get whatever amount I need. Just came from there and bought $8 in ms money.

It always makes me laugh when I see that the CAG GameStop thread has “New” in quotes. I’m not sure if that was deliberate or just because it really was a new thread. But, yeah, makes sense to put it in quotes. LOL

...people still waste time and gas money going to the store to buy virtual currency in 2018 that they could easily buy from their couch? Don't tell me your one of those weirdos that thinks your "personal information is unsafe" just because you add a credit card to your Xbox...

My credit card is always near the limit, so I pay cash. I go to walmart to pick up stuff during the week and GS is next door, so I enjoy going there and looking at the clearance stuff and picking up ms funds with whatever cash I have left. Since I never buy physical games I just get the occasional clearance thing from GS and the currency. Even the workers say their prices on physical games suck.

The line between threads is starting to blur. :)

Typically, the only time you'll get a new game from GS that has been resealed is if it is the last copy (the display copy) of that game that the store has.

I haven't had any issues buying digital things from gamestop.com, but this site is full of people that have been griefed by that website when trying to buy anything digital. And typically they are using GS credit or a GS gift card to do so, which if something goes wrong with the order that balance is mysteriously gone until you contact customer support. So in closing, if you are using GS money to buy MS or PS or Nintendo money, it is worth it to do so in-store.

Speaking of GameStop. I got my OG Xbox game order and three of them didn’t even have cases. Jedi Academy disc looks like shit too. Hope they all work tomorrow!

Deliberate. Glad someone found it funny :)

This is a great service I use it all the time. Doesn't work on PSN credit though.
