Some notes
  • You cannot currently buy any Xbox 360 content on xbox.com using your account balance, you can only use an active credit card or PayPal. To use your balance, you must make purchases on your console.  Unfortunately, even "purchasing" free content through the web site like trials requires an alternative method of payment tied to your account, though adding an empty MasterCard / Visa gift card that is registered for online purchases will work.  Xbox One games can be purchased on the web site with your account balance.
  • Some sales are intended for Gold subscribers only, as noted within each section.
On Xbox One, Gold trials of any length work for sales and Games with Gold.  You must be an active Gold subscriber (paid or trial) to play Games with Gold purchases.
  • On Xbox 360, you must have at least a 1 month Gold subscription for sales and Games with Gold.  Neither 48 hour trials, 14 day trials nor free weekends qualify.

It's not that different from the life span of Destiny, that vanilla version isn't really worth much anymore now that we're in DLC time
Yup. I picked up a $10 code on Saturday so I would have enough to grab the DLC next week. Probably play it for a month or two before being done till Destiny 3. Game can only hold my attention for a few months but still enjoy it for what it is. Several friends I haven't played with since December I am sure will be playing it next week.

I don't think the original dropped this quickly, but post-expansions, players know better.

For $10, I'll probably play the campaign. I loved the original, but it seems so insane to me that they didn't follow a WoW model and build a sequel which could retain all the original raids and content to build off of as a foundation.

I should've tried asking in this thread if anyone was playing the archive events in Overwatch. Playing with matchmaking tends to go very poorly with no communication unless on the easiest difficulty where you don't need a full group to win. I wasn't able to go higher than hard in retribution and finally was able to beat hard in uprising with random people. I've just given up any idea of getting most of the difficulty achievements for the seasonal events.

So the Defiance 2050 closed Beta is a lot of fun. I wish it was running longer. I'll probably end up getting the founders pack. It reminds me of the old Defiance game mixed with the Secret World MMO and seems to be a lot more streamlined. I can't wait to try the other classes.
Wow, I didn't even know this was a thing. I really liked Defiance on 360 until they screwed it up, I'll have to check this out.

You're right. It took a year for the vanilla Destiny game to drop to the $10 range, when the first major expansion (not DLC) launched. The current price drop is to get more people online and hopefully excited enough to try the upcoming DLC which releases next week.

To your other point, it's probably due to their contract with Activision which obligates them to produce 4 retail releases with at least one (iirc) expansion in between. It's probably a good thing, too, because I personally don't want them to carry D2 forward. I'd rather roll the dice and hope for D3 being better.

Yeah, I definitely assume it has to do with the console vs PC market and Activision trying to follow a more traditional console release. Content-wise, though, there's no reason that Destiny 2 couldn't include the old raids. They worked so hard to get D1 balanced, and then regressed on D2 (from everything I've read). The more content they can offer and the more engaged the player base is, the more people who would buy expansions and stick around, so I feel like Activision is approaching it all wrong.

There could be a new retail disc coming out like D1 had twice, that comes with the expansions. Though it didn't happen until Taken King back then, and the expansion that is supposed to be that size isn't until September. I don't think they'd do one just for the first two.

As for the old stuff, I think we can never expect to happen the future looking at the track record so far. They rebalanced all the old raids during the late life of the first game. If they ever had an intention to bring them forward the rework would have made a lot more sense to put into the new game.

Overall I don't know if they can do anything to bring people back. Either the series is permanently tarnished or a massive rework with D3 is going to be needed. Even with all the changes on the roadmap there isn't anything big enough to get over all the negativity the game has now.

I would recommend using the LFG function of Xbox to at least find people that are trying and likely have mics. I got through Expert once or twice. The hardest difficulty is hard as shit just like last year, so I wouldn't expect to get through it even with a good team.

Many of those who played D1 through all the expansions didn't like the changes in D2. They liked that you had to grind out raids in hopes of getting the best gear/loot. I played through the first (maybe the second too can't recall) expansion on D1. Did my dailies and weeklys and some of the nightfalls (when they weren't ridiculous). I didn't care for the Raids. Took way too long and I HATE platforming. Did it a couple times but really wasn't my thing. Trying to get 6 people together for 2+ hours and hope one or two players (me in platforming sections) aren't holding everyone back and no one had to bail in the middle just isn't very fun IMO.

Now (well through the first expansion at least) you really don't have to do the Raids to max out your light level and get the best gear. It should make it more accessible to those who can't put in dozens of hours a week. But it upset lots of players who play 2-3 hours every day and put in the time to do the Raids.

Also Eververse (pay to get mostly cosmetics stuff) loot box type thing didn't sit well with many.

No matter what they do going forward with the expansions they will likely piss off millions of players. Either the more hardcore or the more casual. I waited till the first expansion was about to come out to even bother picking it up. Wanted the base game cheap enough so if I hated it wouldn't be that big a deal. Liked it enough and bought the first expansion to keep playing with my friends. Little by little we all started playing other things late December early January. I haven't really played it since. Just nothing really do when you are maxed out. I was one or two points away with both my characters (didn't start the 3rd). Playing it solo to me gets boring fast.

Thanks, I'll check it out. I've never actually used it.

This years seems so much easier to me than last years, I don't know why. The hard difficulty feels like last years easy. I was able to get through with one other person on easy after two people dropped before we got to the assassin. Neither of us were moira so we had to just keep reviving each other. I tried expert once with matchmaking and we got taken out at the assassin because we didn't work together and communicate.

I think Destiny 2 gets a lot of crap but it’s mostly people that are super into the games and, as mentioned, don’t like the changes. If you like shooters and aren’t as hardcore “have to have everything” Destiny types, it’s actually a pretty fun game (which admittedly I need to put more time into myself). Easily worth the $8 with GCU.

Guess we should be getting Super Mega Baseball 2 tonight. Looking forward to checking it out. Apparently went a little more towards realism this time around.

Hate to be the bearer of bad news. Starting with the update that drops alongside the DLC next week, all that will change, even for content prior to this DLC. Bungie is deliberately slowing down the climb so that anyone who doesn't do raid/trial activities won't be able to reach max light level until the next expansion (in Sept)....

Either way is fine for me. I am not likely to be Raiding or playing this come July 1st anyway.

Tried the Raid in D2 and we got stuck at some stupid rise/falling platform section. I actually wasn't the worst at it and made it a couple times but then someone else would fail. Far from fun.

I don't want to fall down the same rabbit hole I did with D1 where it consumed the vast majority of my gaming time for like 9 or 10 months or so.

I will enjoy the rest of it like I did in D1 and probably will not bother with the future expansion passes. I never got much of the Raid Gear in the first one and was fine with that. Guess they decided potentially pissing off/alienating the more casual player was the way to go. Like I said either way there will be pissed off gamers bitching up a storm online.

Amen to this. The main reason they're making the grind harder is because the majority of the people still playing the game are asking for more grind. Hence, they're adding all sorts of other randomized drops and slowing down the progression. I liked it the other way, tbh.

Remember:

Adam was teased in a post credit scene of Guardians Vol.2

FYI - If anyone wants a quick refresher of the events leading up to Infinity War, Alamo Drafthouse has a pretty good summary on screen before the movie starts.
Talk is that Adam was scrapped from IW in order for him to be more prominent in Guardians 3

Man, they really can't stick to a content strategy for this franchise.

Been moving all weekend and have had no internet.  It's supposed to be set up today.  Hopefully things run smoothly.

Saw Infinity War over the weekend.  Puts all other Marvel movies to shame, in my humblest opinion.  When all the reviews say this is where everything has been leading, they weren't kidding.  Took my breath away.

Also finished up the Superman ending in Injustice 2.  Holy crap, gave me chills.  Side note, you don't need to be online in order to access Multiverse events.  I was pleasantly surprised to find this out.  Also got my 10 yr old son into the game over the weekend.  He's loving it, and may even be getting used to the Capcom-style control scheme I set up for him.  Apparently, Scarecrow is his favorite "because he has a noose around his neck".  Debating spending the 5 buck survey money towards Darkseid, so I can have all the characters, because my OCD won't allow me to have one missing character, especially when achievements are tied to him.  We'll see what date night has to offer.

Avengers was soooo good!! I don’t know about putting everything else to shame but definitely best MCU movie and totally lived up to the hype.

Also, just can’t stop myself from mentioning, but remember when everyone defending the Last Jedi and the terrible audience score said it was because big movies can’t please everyone and there was too much hype and expectation? Well Infinity War with its 10 years of hype is sitting at a 93% audience score lol.

I was able to get through with one other person on easy after two people dropped before we got to the assassin. Neither of us were moira so we had to just keep reviving each other. I tried expert once with matchmaking and we got taken out at the assassin because we didn't work together and communicate.
I'd say it's easier. You've got a better composition overall with the characters, with Moira being able to heal everyone at once or deal way more damage than Mercy, Reaper can heal himself, and Genji and McCree can deal a ton of damage. I'd say the only really hard stuff is the big chaingun guy and the massive damage the sniper or assassin can do if you're team isn't coordinated.

Uprising had a couple of rough choke points, all the Bastions and huge waves during the defense, and the 3 Orisas at the end are extremely hard on the high difficulties.

Avengers was soooo good!! I don’t know about putting everything else to shame but definitely best MCU movie and totally lived up to the hype.
This is true. Avengers was fantastic, and had it's own build up moment, just like IW. I think I like IW the best because it is unlike any other Marvel movie (and that's all I'll say on that).

I bit on Destiny 2. $7.57 w tax, why not. I paid $60 for the first one and felt burned but if I had paid $7.57 for the first one I would have felt like I got a steal.

So Burnout Revenge on 360 just dropped $5 to $9.99. Let's hope this is one of those times they throw something on sale just before it goes B/C.

I do regret that Bungie/Activision tried to appeal to new or casual fans of the Destiny franchise with D2, and I think they have realized that the fanbase from D1 has been alienated too much and now they are trying to draw them back in.  Bungie (and now Vicarious Visions I guess?) have been making some small steps and some large bounds towards Quality of Life fixes in the game (in addition to the content being made available in the expansions, and I am really excited for a lot of things coming next week:

  • Two types of ranking in PvP with some sort of reward to work toward
  • Changes to lots of unpopular or ineffective exotic weapons to make them pants-tighteningly better
  • Increase in size of the vault
  • New large difficult Public Event type thing with rotating rewards (I hope that this won't be a walk in the park)
  • Other things I can't remember right now
And to post a correction from an earlier post, yes Bungie is making the climb to max power (380/385) more difficult.  They are not making it impossible if you don't participate in Raids or Trials, just more difficult than if you did participate in those events.  I'm not sure I agree with this because I haven't been able to participate in either (my choice I guess), but hopefully enough of Clan CAG will come back for the expansion to make that easier to do.

Would love to give the expert or legendary difficulty runs a chance with some Cags tonight?
I'll be on a lot today playing. I still need all the expert/legendary achievements on both, as well as the two other Hard achievements that have extra things needed to complete. I don't expect to unlock any of them.

Had a $5 BB cert so I couldn't pass up D2 for $5. I do miss my handcannons from the 9 months I devoted my life to D1.

Back in December a guy I was playing with fairly regularly wanted the Crimson Handcannon. I didn't really know too much about it other then it gave back some health when you killed someone with it if you had the right armor or something (sorry I forget the details). Anyway he would decrypt the Exotic Engrams and be like fuck another POS whatever. I wanted the damn Crimson handcannon.

Anyway one day right around Christmas I got one from an Exotic Engram. I had to wish him a Merry Christmas and send him a screen shot. He cursed me out. lol

A few days later he got one and didn't like it as much as he thought he would.

I have played more than 52 days to Destiny 1, I love the game, and I still play it. Destiny 2 is not worth for me, I bought it in its release day hoping something similar to D1, but after a month of playing, I realized it has no content, no armour or weapons to grind, the raid has only one boss, the PVP is worse, the arcstrider hunter keeps broken with his super on PVP... This expansion won't have an extra raid. I also miss the grimoire.

Vault of Glass and Wrath of the machines for me the best raids so far.

I hope you enjoy it. Revenge is my favorite Burnout game. It'd be SO great if they add it to the B/C list!
I played it many years ago on the original Xbox and remember enjoying it, but I don't remember most of it.

Also worth considering that it could get delisted fot music licensing, and a sale could be to sell more copies before then. Probably not... but its happened before.

I just don’t understand why Bungie couldn’t make braindead versions of the raids with weaker gear and allow people to pug them. Maybe things have changed since I played, but their weird beta queue never worked and LFG on Xbox itself was horribly elitist.

Damn I hope you’re right. I love that game far more than Paradise even.

I have that $5 survey credit, for $5 out of pocket I'm going to buy it regardless, have been eyeing it for awhile now.
I too really hope it goes BC soon, Revenge is easily one of my favorite Burnout games. Still have my $5 survey credit as well so gonna go ahead and pick it up. What's funny is I bought a physical copy from a seller on eBay for $5 about a month ago.

Yeah, I just need that one, Game Room, and Fitty Cent and I'll be pretty happy. Burnout 3 wouldn't hurt, either.

Like this post to enter a drawing for a code for I, Hope.  2 codes will be given away, winners will be drawn Friday evening.

The codes will be from using Microsoft's "Buy as Gift" option on the marketplace, so I will need an email address to send it (maybe a tag will work from the console), and according to MS's terms, it can only be redeemed on a US account.

The upcoming Destiny changes are more like a band-aid then an actual fix for the majority of the issues. The exotic enhancement is a good start, but they haven't fixed the overall ease of acquiring gear, only partially dealing with the issue with exotic masterworks. It's just insane how slow these fixes are coming. I don't think we'll see much change resulting from the community summit until at least the September expansion.

The problem here is this is not part of the free stuff. You don't get access to the "more rewarding" leveling system unless you own the expansions.
