Some notes
  • You cannot currently buy any Xbox 360 content on xbox.com using your account balance, you can only use an active credit card or PayPal. To use your balance, you must make purchases on your console.  Unfortunately, even "purchasing" free content through the web site like trials requires an alternative method of payment tied to your account, though adding an empty MasterCard / Visa gift card that is registered for online purchases will work.  Xbox One games can be purchased on the web site with your account balance.
  • Some sales are intended for Gold subscribers only, as noted within each section.
On Xbox One, Gold trials of any length work for sales and Games with Gold.  You must be an active Gold subscriber (paid or trial) to play Games with Gold purchases.
  • On Xbox 360, you must have at least a 1 month Gold subscription for sales and Games with Gold.  Neither 48 hour trials, 14 day trials nor free weekends qualify.

[*]All known sales and information on sales should make their way into the OP. Major Nelson usually updates his blog with new sales information every Tuesday.

You peeps have inspired me with your decision talk - I also suffer a lot from not knowing what the hell to play. I’m not the spreadsheet type usually, though, so I just went cold turkey and deleted half of the games on my Xbox. I started with 137-139, and pared it down to 62. Doubt I’ll play even half of those anytime soon, but that was a big step for me, and hopefully it’ll make deciding what to play each night a little bit easier. Now excuse me, I’m gonna go do some more grinding in Destiny 2 (it’s still not a great game, but damn if the Warming grind isn’t fun - this is what was missing from the get go).

Not enough. I usually float between 60 and 70 installed and it's still way too many.

I definitely suffer from too many choices like so many of you have detailed here. I truly think I have reached the point where the only new games I should buy are Madden and The Show because if I'm being honest with myself, the only things I've played this year are MUT and Diamond Dynasty.

I'm just going to embrace my inner jock and know that I have hundreds of AAA non-sports titles available with the click of a button if I ever want a change of pace. Hell I got the deluxe God of War digital day one and have never fired it up. That's how bad my gaming life has become. But I get lots of joy out of those two games so I'm not really complaining about it, I'm just coming to terms with it lol.

In the end I should save a lot of money by just accepting this.

I'm actually canceling Netflix once i'm done with a few series. Gonna put the extra money towards going to the theaters or buying 4k DVDs. Getting HDR/4k and adding a second streamer is running me about $14 a month. So my gaming backlog is gonna be free. I'll still have Amazon Prime so I can watch Prime streaming but I heard It's pretty meh compared to Netflix.

There's also redbox and they do free rentals every few days so I think I'm good.

How many times do you watch a 4K DVD you buy? I watch movies once. I don't see the value in buying a $20 4K DVD to watch once. On the other hand $14 a month for Netflix is a huge value in my opinion.

Not many times, It will be mostly be for going out to the movies or redboxing.. but the funding will be there for the 4K DVDS. I don't use netflix as much as I use to and want to focus more on gaming generally.

CAG Warning: Do NOT play the free trial of Yoku's Island Express. At the end of the trial, you WILL open your wallet and end up buying the game. You have been WARNED!

Seriously though I did not think I would have as much fun as I did playing the trial that theres a slight chance I will be picking it up before the sale ends. The only thing holding me back is the fact Dead Cells releases Tuesday. We'll find out come Date Night...

I Use to just buy whatever game if it's cheap and heard at least okay things about, but now my backlog has gone into "lololol good luck" territory so now with nearly all my game purchases now I check metacritic and see the average score and read some of the reviews. It's helped a bit, but holy shit I still buy HD'er remasters when they get cheap and I think that's my biggest downfall because I think I like the familiarity in a game of not having to think too much. Kinda like watching Die Hard or whatever when it's on TV despite seeing it thousands of times and owning it on blu and digital, etc.

Thinking about getting a sound bar to go with my TCL and retiring my clunky audio receiver, since I originally bought it for managing multiple component video inputs, and now basically everything I use is HDMI. Can anyone recommend a good one? Preferably with a sub for around $100. Don't need anything top of the line, just good enough.
I think the diff between a sound bar and tv is so great that any of them you find on good sale (sub 100) will make you enjoy the upgrade. Maybe others have preferences but my only requirement would be compatible with whatever inputs you need

If youre willing to spend just a few bucks more, this one from Vizio is what i use in our bedroom. Great sound quality unless youre looking to BLARE it. Bestbuy product number is SB3621N-E8M. It is 2.1 channel, so you get two speakers in the bar and a subwoofer.

Great conversation about this topic. I'm a wierdo in that I like to go for achievement points even though my gamerscore just topped 40k. Being terrible at most games doesn't help.

Stupidly I got gamepass recently for cheap in anticipation of FH4, so that's even more options.

I think I'll take the advice, just purged a bunch of stuff from my HD and pushed back into the ready to install tab. Focus!

Speaking of decision paralysis and arranging the backlog into something manageable, time for me to start doing something about mine. I'll start by adding groups with folder names like "play now," "play later," and "continuous play" or something along those lines. My problem is I want to play games but then freeze up while trying to decide what to play. I wind playing nothing, playing something in short bursts, or just watching TV.

There are some games in my backlog that can easily be knocked out in a few hours. Some of the games that will take longer to finish can wait. Sports games with career and franchise/dynasty modes would likely fall under "Continuous/Extended Play." Thanks to everyone in this thread for giving me the push I desperately needed to get going in the right direction. :D

I would add this game to my wish list if XBox had one. Fun game and once it hits $10 or less I will definitely pick it up and finish.

Someone was asking if Marvel Ult Alliance was easy to couch coop, my sons and I are 3 player coop and no issues, we are all signed into our accounts and getting achievements.

14 day xbox live code that's been sitting around for the last year:

N3KC9-**MPG-TMWDF-CJ6H8-###4F

** - first two characters of Chris Jericho's Nickname

### - Mazda that came after RX4, and before RX8

I have a Vizio sound bar with wireless sub plus 2 rear speakers, got it on sale for around 150 I think.

A way to mitigate buying 4k discs is selling off the digital copies in the trading forum. New releases go for around $10. I would never pay for Netflix on my own (that's money for another wrestling streaming service!), but free with T-Mobile is worth it.

When in doubt, play Megaman.

P.S.: Megaman X3 is harder than I remembered. I can't beat any of the robot masters in my playthru from .... 10 years ago?  The last time I had that feeling was with Mighty No. 9 - although I did eventually beat some bosses and enjoyed the game as a result.

Studios Lancer for logging in to Gears 4 today.  Studios Snub tomorrow.  Logging in to the online card companion also works.

Golden Gun event and challenge running this week, with the Heartbeat and Flaming Boltok available.  Double XP throughout August, with a weekly rotating ranked playlist also getting 4x XP starting the 13th.

https://gearsofwar.com/en-us/community/whatsup-aug2-2018

Took me about an hour to complete the event and unlock the skins.  A bit off pace for the Ruby Scion challenge, 1856 / 6000 kills.

I try not signed in, still did not work, even tried offline and no difference.
Contact support man, this sounds like something they may have to refund you for.

I got an Xbox problem of my own now. My Xbox One X that I bought in June doesn't read discs anymore, so I gotta get that sent off for repairs sometime next week. On the bright (?) side, all this talk of decision fatigue made go through my HDDs and delete like 400+ games I knew I wasn't going to play anytime soon. The bad (?) news is that I still have 400+ games downloaded but at least I've been able to pin games I knew for sure I wanted to play and start enjoying them. I've neglected the likes of Shantae for far too long in favor of lesser games that I just 'wanted to get out of the way'.

Also, nothing sucks more than trying to get back into an rpg you've set aside for too long. Stuff like Final Fantasy XV, Witcher 3, Pier Sol, Elex, etc I've sunk at least 20 hours in (I'm like 60 hours into Witcher 3) but it's been so long that I feel detached from the experience.

Oh, and regarding the X collection: What's worse Mega Man X6 or X7? I'm leaning towards X6 because despite having one of the greatest soundtracks in gaming history, the entire game feels like a giant middle finger to the player. It's filled to the brim with cheap design for the sole purpose of wasting your time and frustrating you.

Man... between the X1, PS4, Switch, Netflix, Hulu, Prime Video, and Moviepass, I don't do anything but sleep on my days off :(. I did manage to make it out to two movies this week, which is the first time I've been since sometime in June. I fear that the minute I cancel any of the services, I'll want to use it again. To those of you with Hulu, I'm loving Castle Rock so far

That reminds me... that's one long time subscription I had, that I actually had the guts to cancel. Hadn't watched anything on it since Summerslam

So I started Forza Horizon 2 tonight. Had three years of Forza rewards bonus credits waiting for me, so I’m starting with 20 million credits in the bank.

As they say about motor sports, if you want to make a small fortune, start with a large fortune!

Nice... I finished the game last year and started it up today. It's just as fun just driving around as I remember it to be.

As for movies just watched:

MI: Fallout - I still don't like Tom Cruise as the lead but the movie was good.

The Spy Who Dumped Me - This was enjoyable. Kate McKinnon's character was hard to like but I guess that's the way the character was supposed to be.

Aquaman Trailer - High hopes after seeing this. Clips seem on par with the Marvel movies.

BobbyTastic is the winner of LA Cops!

Thanks for all those that entered. That's probably the most likes I'll get for a post ever.
Well, that was a surprise. I think that's my first win in here ever.

The sad thing is I got extra hyped because I mixed up with "This Is The Police", but it's still something I'd play.

In any case, thanks a ton for the contest.

Aren't both of those on Gamepass? :)
They are. Gears isn't a problem to own physically but Recore is kind of a waste because A) the Definitive Edition update isn't included on the original disc so you'll have a lengthy download and B) Recore is Play Anywhere so owning it physically screws you out of having it on W10 for free.

I'd buy Recore digitally for $5 in a heartbeat, though I'd probably wait until I had an X to play it on.

So I'm doing some research on Forza Horizon 4 and it seems that the best pre-order spot is at Gamestop of all places. It looks like they have a bonus Aston Martin DB11 and T-shirt (whether real or Avatar I can't figure out) I don't see any pre-order incentives on Microsoft's side. Best Buy has a Camaro ZL1...Anybody aware of any other places that have anything worth mentioning? I'm going digital btw.

I was on the fence about pre-ordering the Ultimate Edition because I just got the 6 month pass sub during E3 but I can't live with the standard edition. I'm a Forza freak and don't think I can do without VIP and all the other perks, including playing 5 days early.

For my money, the Horizon series is the best racing ever and makes it extremely difficult to go back to normal "track" racing.

I would add that ReCore does not have a ton of replayability, I really enjoyed my time with it but I don't think I'll ever played again. Which makes it perfect for Game Pass. Gears of War is a bit more oriented towards multiple playthroughs, cooperative play, multiplayer.

Amazon is offering a 2016 Porsche 911 GT3RS as a pre-order bonus.

That t-shirt looks to be for your in-game character because Wal-Mart is offering a Bomber jacket as a pre-order bonus.

In June of 2016 XCom was part of the games with gold and I remember installing the game on my 360 and selling my disc, I was going to download and play the game on my One but it doesn't show under my to be installed section. Check my purchase history and the spot where that purchase should be located says 'Content Unavailable'.

Out of all the games from that month Goat Simulator, The Crew, Super Meatboy, XCom is the only one not showing in my list of purchases or in the games Ready to Install or the Installed list. Does the game show for anyone else or is it missing?

Buying the Summer Spotlight games will get you 100 Microsoft points per dollar spent. I just bought two of the qualifying games Castaway Paradise and One More Dungeon, and I got my points for both purchases immediately.

I've been going back and forth on this and have ordered all Forza editions as ultimate for years only to play a few months then move on, but I think this year I am going to join the Game pass (after the 50% off deal a few months back) and not pay for the UE.

I think that Porsche is a super cool car, way better than the Aston Martin or Camaro. Walmart can piss right off with that crap.

I find that Horizon is the only game I truly stick with. My Forza Rewards page is nearly maxed out because I pretty much obsess over completing each game. I've even been limping my way through Forza Apex on my crappy PC just to max out the points for that game. It's really helpful when every week you get $500,000 in game credits gifted to you for no reason. Normally Horizon has pretty good starting rewards based off of your Forza Rewards tier too, so I'm hoping my time spent will pay off.

I've convinced myself that I need to buy the ultimate edition, probably with the credit I've got riding out at Gamestop. The CAG in me can afford to wait for nearly every other game to go on sale months down the line, but I just can't do that with Forza.

I usually buy the ultimate editions as well and get plenty for my money. That being said, I'm locked into Gamepass for at least the next year and I don't see the point in spending $100 when I'm already getting access to the game. I'd love to see Microsoft offer a Gamepass Ultimate edition that comes with all the extras for $40-$50. The way I see it, they can make that now or half of that when they start discounting everything, or maybe not at all if I choose to skip it all together for the first time.

So I started Forza Horizon 2 tonight. Had three years of Forza rewards bonus credits waiting for me, so I’m starting with 20 million credits in the bank.

As they say about motor sports, if you want to make a small fortune, start with a large fortune!
I started Forza Motorsport 4 last night. I had 3.2 million credits banked from Rewards, but when I started the game, it only gave me 2 27.5K rewards. Hopefully the other messages come in, but I doubt it. Have a little over 50 days until FH4 Ultimate's release, so I should be able to max the days played on the Rewards. If that part of the rewards is still working, FM3 isn't picking up on some things. Rewards has picked up my FM4 gamerscore, but nothing else, and applied the DLC and token points, so that got me to rewards tier 10. 2,100+ points to tier 11. Have an outside shot at that, though I probably need the FM3 and FM4 stats to track properly again.

Was able to pick up a VIP code for FM3, so the FM4 unicorn achievement popped when I started the game and imported my FM3 profile. Only got to L20 FM3, so I didn't get as many cars, but they'll be buyable later. Had been hoping on the credit windfall, though. Still started with some decent cars in the garage that carried over. Hopefully I can find an FM4 Porsche code for the achievements, but I'm probably a year and a half to late for that.

Are you sure you're checking the right one in your install list? XCOM: Enemy Unknown was GwG, XCOM: Enemy Within was not. I have Enemy Unknown installed on my XB1. Maybe it's getting ready for an X patch and the marketplace listings are flaky.

same here, it's a tough decision as a game pass owner because you're paying $100 extra since the game is "free", compared to spending the $40 or whatever it is to upgrade from standard to ultimate like usual. At least the FH4 ultimate edition actually includes the expansions this time but i'm not sure if i'll get it.

1TB WD recertified external for $31 after coupon SDAUG1

Decent price if 1TB is all you need. Code works on all colors.

Yeah I probably would have bought the Ultimate version. I almost never do. But I loved FH3. But getting the base game with Gamepass I am not shelling out $100 for the DLC and VIP. I can wait for sales on DLC.

Man... between the X1, PS4, Switch, Netflix, Hulu, Prime Video, and Moviepass, I don't do anything but sleep on my days off :(. I did manage to make it out to two movies this week, which is the first time I've been since sometime in June. I fear that the minute I cancel any of the services, I'll want to use it again. To those of you with Hulu, I'm loving Castle Rock so far
Man... I've got a PS2, Xbox, PS3, X360, PS4, and X1 set up in my room and barely fire them up from time to time. Add to that the fact that I just got a 32" Haier LED 720p HDTV that's still in the box, I've got work to do. I'll get cracking on that stuff today. Most of the time I'm in the living room chilling, watching TV and using the computer. I'm stuck on watching American Pickers on Hulu right now. I'm sure I'll start watching other shows and movies I like soon, lol. If anyone is looking for another streaming option Pluto TV (free live TV streaming) is worth checking out.

Am I reading the summer spotlight special correctly? If I get 100 points for every dollar I spend, doesn’t that pretty much give me enough points to pay for the game? So up to 40 dollars or kind of free (points to money back)?

EVO has been amazing this weekend.

Are you ready for this?

Negan from the Walking Dead

Is coming to Tekken! (Season Pass 2! X patch hope?)

4000 pts is like $5 when gift cards are on sale.

Yeah. Castle Rock is really good. Wish they just dropped the whole season. Binged the first 3 in one sitting and waiting for the next episodes sucks.
