Some notes
  • You cannot currently buy any Xbox 360 content on xbox.com using your account balance, you can only use an active credit card or PayPal. To use your balance, you must make purchases on your console.  Unfortunately, even "purchasing" free content through the web site like trials requires an alternative method of payment tied to your account, though adding an empty MasterCard / Visa gift card that is registered for online purchases will work.  Xbox One games can be purchased on the web site with your account balance.
  • Some sales are intended for Gold subscribers only, as noted within each section.
On Xbox One, Gold trials of any length work for sales and Games with Gold.  You must be an active Gold subscriber (paid or trial) to play Games with Gold purchases.
  • On Xbox 360, you must have at least a 1 month Gold subscription for sales and Games with Gold.  Neither 48 hour trials, 14 day trials nor free weekends qualify.

I started mark of the ninja up on Xbox 360 to be sure. Now waiting for that sweet upgrade price on Xbox one.

And I’m excited about the bc update on mgs games today. Not a bad Tuesday so far!

Had a thought about BC... we all know the BC program is all effectively custom made emulators for each BC title. Some just make the game work in the X1, some going for big visual upgrades of existing assets (FH1, RDR for example). What’s the chance of MS releasing a “generic” emulator that could allow you to play everything, even if there are a few hiccups here and there?
From a technology angle, very little, although the BC team has been clear that each title often requires some optimization on top of the base emulator. At 500 titles in, they probably could put out something that would reliably play most other games. From a business side, it's unlikely, since they need permission from publishers before making games available on a new platform.

Does Pinball FX2 automatically upgrade to Pinball FX3 with all of the purchases carrying over? If it seems like I'm late to the party, it's because I rarely play that game.
After dl'ing FX3 you have to "import" your tables. There are few tables which aren't compatible with FX3 so they won't transfer but most will. Also, keep in mind that in FX3, the tables are sold in bundles so if you have a table missing within a bundle I don't know how you would be able to purchase it.

The free table Fish Tales is available via Pinball FX3. Just launch the game and it should be available. You might need to do a game update. It's also free on PS4, Nintendo Switch, Steam, Windows 10, & Mac.

https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/p/pinball-fx3/9pckbvf3p67h

I think it's permanently free or something, there is no option to buy it separately on Switch. Probably trying to get those classic pinball fans to try out the game that haven't before.
Same on X1. The table is already highlighted so you don't have to purchase it or even download it which I find a little strange since we've had to dl all FX3 tables to play them.

The two games I want most for BC are

Castlevania Lords of Shadow

Castlevania Lords of Shadow 2

It seems that Konami is getting closer to helping me out. Do it already!

It does not update automatically pinball FX2 is for 360 in pinball fx3 is for Xbox one you have to download pinball fx3 and then when you go to the tables it should show you what ones you have purchased before in let you download them I don't know if they are still offering what you purchased before but they did whenever I first started playing pinball fx3 and I downloaded all the tables that I already bought on 360 hope that helps

I'm of the same opinion, if MS wanted to, they could've made a generic emulator and then fix games / emulator that broke it. But it's not their call to make the games BC. They probably discussed it and threw the idea away - hence the adhoc releases.

At this point, it makes little to no sense in making a generic emulator since BC program has been chugging along for a while now and they funished / are finishing up plenty of titles.

I agree there's a few games especially sports games that I would like to play on the Xbox One including NCAA football and the baseball games if only Microsoft had made a generic emulator than I could do that it seems more though to be about money and reselling titles although I don't want to be too tough on Microsoft because they are giving us a way to play old games that's convenient and works they are definitely doing a better job than Sony on this

In terms of legacy support and software sales, it's better PR to release them a few at a time, too. If 50 games all went BC at once, it wouldn't carry the same kind of weight.

I met a coworker's friend recently who is a huge gamer and was contemplating an X1X (he's only got a PS4). I mentioned BC and he had no idea it existed. After searching on his phone for the list of games, he said he'd probably buy one this month.

An Obsidian Fable game would be pretty awesome.
If Playground Games has been tasked with starting one, Obsidian sure would be a welcome addition to the project.

Agreed, it's as much marketing as it is licensing and the sheer amount of work involved. What they have right now is also, most probably, the shortest/ quickest way to get to (a working) BC program. They didn't want to be late to the market once they announced BC. All things put together it's by far the best plan for MS.

Its another thing that most have blinkered view about everything XBox. They dont help themselves either; there are lots of avenues where they can emphasize BC program. It's not a system seller but its something.

Still bummed about no Max Payne, but MGS3 is my favorite game of all time so I won't complain any more. I can't wait to see how it runs on the X and maybe I'll get another 20+ playthroughs out of it. All the other BC Konami games have been teasing me until now.

I like Obsidian a lot, but if they do get bought I hope they at least have one team not making CRPGs. I have a hard time getting into this genre in general, and vastly prefer New Vegas, KotOR II, and even Alpha Protocol to their more recent output because of their gameplay and non-isometric camera. One big concern I have is that Obsidian have lost a lot of the talent that made the writing in their older games so great. Most notably Chris Avellone is gone, but so are some of the other lead writers from New Vegas, once of which I know when to Guerilla and worked on Horizon Zero Dawn. They still have Sawyer, which keeps me positive overall.

I hope they don't just get stuck on Fable, nor do I really want Playground on it. I'd vastly prefer new IP, though maybe Playground would still be best working on an old IP since I don't think they've really made one of their own. Forza Horizon does have a lot of personality, but it's a big leap to make an entire world.

On the general purpose BC talk, I think they only way around the publisher issue is to build hardware in the box that can read the old discs the old fashioned way. If there is a digital side to it I think permission comes into play. It doesn't seem like it will be an issue going forward now, but 100% support for 360 and OG won't ever happen. Quality concerns would probably hold it up before, as I don't think MS was happy with the way some games ran like trash when played on the 360's OG emulator.

Red Dead Redepmtion 2 Ultimate seems to have automatically installed to my Xbox today. I didn't buy it, my gameshare partner didn't, it doesn't show up in purchase history or email or as purchased in the store. The tile under "Games" doesn't say Pre-ordered.

Any ideas? Do you get a message if someone gifts you something?

Edit: messaged a friend of mine and he just bought it for himself. I think my Xbox is set as his Home somehow.

A generic emulator this gen? Next to nil. I doubt the X, much less the original or S, can run many 360 games on the fly at the performance needed for gaming. Simple XBLA stuff can probably be done, but end of generation stuff that pushed the 360 hardware? No way. Too much overhead on the system. May be possible with future, more powerful hardware, but we aren't there yet. A generic emulator for the OG is more likely, though MS has us trained with their approach with the current 360 program.

When Metal Gear Solid HD collection goes on sale what's the typical price it normally goes down to
Normal price is $19.99 and it's been on sale for $9.99 ~ $11.99. The lowest it's been was $6.99 back in June. I really should've picked it up back then.

Unfortunately just got this reply on Twitter about Mark of the Ninja. They’re still just waiting on a reply from MS!

Sometimes you should not poke the nostalgia bear. Started MW Remastered tonight and I am not liking it one bit. Endless respawning waves chucking grenade after grenade. Plus the enemy spawn is jacked up at times. I loved this game 11 years ago but now I may not even try to finish the game.
I tried to go back to beat it on Veteran years ago on the 360. I gave up, I hate endless waves of enemies. MW is still my favorite CoD campaign (mind you I haven't played anything past Ghosts) but fuck that lazy mechanic.

I wish I was in your circle of friends...

I’m a very happy pinballer. The “new” tables are awesome on FX3. Classic mode really just feels like Pinball Arcade (read: realistic) and besides also having tournament mode (whoa that’s fast), the spruced up FX versions are super fun as well. Great job by Zen as usual!

sup? I bought the Deluxe edition and Best Buy sent me this email Tuesday around 2am.
I guess if any one wants WWE 2k19 but wants to wait til it goes on sale?

Off topic but for those with iPhones, this is cool news. Seems like it would be a great game for on the go. And only $7.99.

Regarding the Badlands -> Scavenger Hunt, I contacted MS Rewards Support and sent them screenshots of each fricking page because they can't seem to go through the worded steps I sent them. Anyways, another rep decided to take over and said they'd research it. I haven't gotten an update but I tried it again and it checked off for me so go and try it before it breaks again.

The Gamer Score still isn't reading the 400+ points I added over the weekend.

Same here, mark of the ninja remastered is showing as owned for me. Downloading now!
Everyone...ummmm... looks like they may have overcorrected. I thought the remastered version is only free if you own the 360 version AND the DLC. I own the vanilla game, but not the $5 DLC. It's letting me download the XB1 remastered version. I just double checked the store and it clearly says I don't own the DLC for the 360 so.... you might want to hop on the glitch before they fix it. (I'm assuming it's a glitch.)

figures bought the dlc at 2AM this morning..... oh well! Thanks for the heads up. Installing it now.

Either way would be fine.
Ah, as someone else pointed out, your looking for the other Virtual-On games, not Sega games in general. Virtual-On: OT is the only one currently backwards compatible on Xbox One.

Hopefully they make Virtual-On Force backwards compatible in the future. It seems to be quite expensive for the disc on Ebay

Same here. I never finished it on the 360 so the chances I even play it on the X1 are slim but I will download anyway.

I met a coworker's friend recently who is a huge gamer and was contemplating an X1X (he's only got a PS4). I mentioned BC and he had no idea it existed. After searching on his phone for the list of games, he said he'd probably buy one this month.
i really like when games from my original xbox and xbox 360 backlog get added to my xbox one backlog via backwards compatibility

AND IT'S FREE :D/

Thanks for the heads up for Mark of the Ninja. I grabbed it free. They never revoked the license for that free Paperboy clone last month so I hope we can keep this one too.
