Some notes
  • You cannot currently buy any Xbox 360 content on xbox.com using your account balance, you can only use an active credit card or PayPal. To use your balance, you must make purchases on your console.  Unfortunately, even "purchasing" free content through the web site like trials requires an alternative method of payment tied to your account, though adding an empty MasterCard / Visa gift card that is registered for online purchases will work.  Xbox One games can be purchased on the web site with your account balance.
  • Some sales are intended for Gold subscribers only, as noted within each section.
On Xbox One, Gold trials of any length work for sales and Games with Gold.  You must be an active Gold subscriber (paid or trial) to play Games with Gold purchases.
  • On Xbox 360, you must have at least a 1 month Gold subscription for sales and Games with Gold.  Neither 48 hour trials, 14 day trials nor free weekends qualify.

Already have Celeste which is amazing and, of course, Lara Croft. It is odd that they would repeat that one.

This would also explain why Celeste wasn’t on sale for the Game Awards when it was on other platforms. Probably didn’t want a bunch of people buying it and then pissing them off by making it free.

Man... repeating Games w/ Gold... Pandora's box has been opened.

I've always heard mixed reviews about Far Cry 2 because of annoying pieces of the engine. I didn't get into the series until Far Cry 3, and that was one of my favorite single-player experiences ever. So I'm moderately interested in giving FC2 a spin.

Use a guide to start off, or else FC2 is super tedious. Weapons break constantly, and enemies respawn a ton. The PC version had a quick-save feature to save anywhere which helped a lot, but consoles didn't, and it was really easy to lose 45 min worth of progress because your weapon breaks and the enemies you just killed came back when driving back through an area. A guide can help you get weapons that won't break easily, which supposedly makes it way less onerous.

Don’t expect FC3 with FC2. The first three games were all pretty different from each other. With 3 they realized they landed on something and have been more or less keeping the formula the same ever since.

What they couldn't give us something like Kingdom of Amalur since they just made it BC? You know something that people actually want to play.

Yeah, it has been diminishing returns ever since FC3. I did enjoy watching Cheeseburger maul people in FC5, though lol

Was the Lara Croft game ever free before? I have it but I swear I never bought it.
Um...

lololol Lara Croft and Guardian of Light was a GWG back in 2014...
It is weird with that Lara Croft repeat. I'll overlook it this time
Guardian of Light was GWG back in 2014.., sharpen those pitchforks and torches ready

No?

According to Reddit, the mystery Game Pass game is Life is Strange Season 1.
That seems a rather odd one to make even a "tiny twitter production" for, but I've seen stranger things

edit: yep and it is indeed Life is Strange season 1, on the Gamepass dashboard now

Bloomy, are you and MauroNL mortal enemies?

He's always posting deals mere minutes after you do, and I hate him for it.  He's imitation Bloomy, a cheap knock-off

How dare he try to steal your thunder!

Or is he your mild-mannered alter-ego?

January 2014 it was GWG. They are repeating... I hoped this day would never come. Subtract 14.99 from the Xbox GWG total for 2019 and award those points to Gryffindor.
Is this really the first repeat GWG they have ever done? Maybe 5 years is their acceptable timeline before repeating a GWG. I've only been gold for the last 2 years so I've got a while before it screws me over.

It does screw up my plans for buying 360 games since I only buy games that have already been GWG on the assumption they will never be free again. I guess I will have to stop buying any 360 games at all now.

Well hot damn!

I guess that's why it wasn't on sale with every other platform, they knew they were going to give it to us for GWG.
Wonder if they saw all the refund requests after announcing QUBE 2 less than 2 weeks after it was on sale and decided not to have to deal with that again.

Is this really the first repeat GWG they have ever done?
No. Pool Nation FX was GwG for 3 months in a row and max and the curse of brotherhood 2 months in a row. Those were close to the beginning though.

What ever happened to the guy with the Norman Reedus pic? I remember many people here hated him because he would post the deals after Bloomy with affiliate links and was therefore making some money every time someone bought a game using his links.

He probably got the message we didn’t appreciate the affiliate links. Especially when Bloomy gives us the info for free.

Yeah I'm perfectly fine with repeats. Just imagine how many new subscribers they get each month. Pretty shitty to say they have to miss out forever. Of course I get the argument that screws over long time subscribers, but as long as there is a huge gap I think it's acceptable.

I was out of the XBox universe for 3 or 4 years. So new to me. Although seems FC2 isn't all that great so I will probably won't play it. A game I once wanted to play but probably doesn't hold up very well.

Game Pass is a pretty big fuck you if you actually understand that you're paying to rent digital games. Would never pay more than $1 for something even worse than the free games for PS Plus. At least we get to keep the license rights for GwG.

January is when PS+ is done giving out PS3 and Vita games, this could a sign of lowered effort for 360 GWG due to that. Hopefully not.

I thought it was March they stopped
They will indeed drop PS3 and Vita games in March - https://techaeris.com/2018/12/11/playstation-plus-dropping-ps3-ps-vita-freebies/

They did, however send an email saying they'll start charging tax for PS Store purchases in certain states beginning January 1st.

Affiliate links are also against TOS since CAG usually gets affiliate links by default which helps pay for the site. If you share any Wario64 posts, for example, mods will yell at you (speaking from personal experience).

Crazy talk, esp. for single player games I'd probably never buy individually but still end up enjoying, esp. when there are deals on subscriptions which come out to about $5 a month. There's a reason Netflix is so damn popular.

Not sure how different it is then Netflix. Not everyone has a need to collect games (physical or digital) they aren't likely to ever play. Similar price if you don't get a deal for GP. Cheaper if you do.

My issue is I have played a big chunk of the games they offer or don't care to play the rest. But even so I find some value at $5 or less a month.

Seems like a bit of a narrow minded opinion. I understand its a rental service as do plenty of others here. Lots jumped on the $30/6 months promo. Game Pass has allowed me to play dozens of games I'd have never tried. If I want to own it, I'll buy the game. I understand the concept. GP is a great value to many of us seasoned gamers

What?!? Lol. How is it a fuck you? I guess you could argue whether it's worth the price, but I don't think anyone goes into it misunderstanding what it is. It's about $10 more than the price of a new game for a year, so if you were going to buy something like Forza Horizon 4 day one, it's a no-brainer. Sure, you don't own it, but how many games do you revisit that you bought 2, 3, 4 years ago? Also, what are the chances nothing else will come to GP that you want to play within that year?

As long as the price of the pass is lower than the price you would have spent on the games included, it's a good deal. By that metric, it's a great deal for me, particularly since I've rarely ever paid for it and almost always extended the membership with Microsoft Rewards points.

Huh? There are so many games on GP. And the MS published ones alone make it worth it. Doubt anyone here is paying more than $60 a year for it. That’s what it would cost for just one MS published game at launch.

GP is easily the best value in gaming IMO, especially if you pay half price or less for a sub.

FH4, Crackdown 3 at launch. What’s not to love?

Surprises like Ashen and Below at launch are also very cool. Those are games I would have been interested in that now I don’t need to buy.

Waiting for a GC (tomorrow) and will grab another 6 months at least.

It's not shitty at all, you'd be doing them a favor in some cases. The thought of Pool Nation or Smite DLC being repeated is a terrible idea all around.

I disagree. It helps me make up my mind on games I might not have otherwise played or saves me from wasting money on games I would end up hating. I've played some fun games I would have never found and if I'm lazy, some of the GP games I have already but don't want to go slide the disc in for.

May not be everyone's cup of tea but it seems clear enough people dig it enough

First repeat for the 360 but as others have posted its happened with the X1 when it was added to GwG.

I think that was more a case of lack of software available at the time, but there were a few Xbox One games with extended stays as Games with Gold when the program first launched. I can cut MS some slack on a 360 Games with Gold repeat after this month of Game Pass, not the same thing but I'll have subscriptions to both as long as their available so I'm good. In fact there are a few xbox 360 games with gold that I missed back in the day just because I was too lazy to turn on the Xbox 360 and get them, way before BC was even a thing, so maybe I'll luck on out on that front some day.
