Some notes
  • You cannot currently buy any Xbox 360 content on xbox.com using your account balance, you can only use an active credit card or PayPal. To use your balance, you must make purchases on your console.  Unfortunately, even "purchasing" free content through the web site like trials requires an alternative method of payment tied to your account, though adding an empty MasterCard / Visa gift card that is registered for online purchases will work.  Xbox One games can be purchased on the web site with your account balance.
  • Some sales are intended for Gold subscribers only, as noted within each section.
On Xbox One, Gold trials of any length work for sales and Games with Gold.  You must be an active Gold subscriber (paid or trial) to play Games with Gold purchases.
  • On Xbox 360, you must have at least a 1 month Gold subscription for sales and Games with Gold.  Neither 48 hour trials, 14 day trials nor free weekends qualify.

Thanks for this. Wish we knew stats on them as well, but it looks like a green Star Seeker, so I may be able to resist the temptation this way then, and just use a BB gift card I have while my GCU is still active.

In other news, Jumpforce has an open beta coming the 18th-20th. There's a good amount of playable characters, although Yugi isn't one of them. But hell, Yusuke Urameshi and Toguro are, so I'm good.
Yeah, I'm definitely purchasing at Best Buy. The remnants of GCU and the $10 cert are enough for me... and the keychain is just a nice bonus.

Though I think I'll be cancelling my DE order and getting the regular version. I'm hyped for the game itself, but I don't think I'm $16($20) hyped for an art book and a pin.

That Hitman HD thing probably got rushed out fast before their deal with WB was worked out and they were super desperate for money, or after because they wanted some immediate return on their investment. Guaranteed to have heavy discounts pretty quick. I can't imagine it will sell that well when Hitman 2 just came out, and we have two juggernaut games at the end of this month.

Has anyone had best buy delivery delay a game on them? I usually do in store pick up but I didn't feel like going tomorrow, are preorder delays typical? I'm guessing they don't do anything partial discount or coupon wise even though it's not an inventory problem? Guess I'll just wait instead of cancelling and going to the store.

Yeah, Gamestop's fabric poster sounds nice too, but I'd be happy with one of the little figure guys for the office desk.

As much as I love and collect Disney pins, I can't justify the price hike to get the DE. The regular edition is just fine with me.

RE2 demo was fantastic. Hopefully reviews well because I really enjoyed my short time with it. HDR seems borked on my TCL tho.

What's with the high priced remasters? Hitman remasters $60? Oof. As much as I love TOV, $50 is a bit high.

I couldn't justify that DE either. Not when I got it pre-ordered before Amazon dropped the 20% Prime Discount on the vanilla version

Is Plant vs zombies Garden Warfare 2 still active with a good community? Is Darksiders Definitive Edition worth getting over the free copy that I have for 360 backwards compatible from Games with Gold?

Normally pretty good about launch day delivery.

For whatever reason though, bestbuy has changed a store pickup to “ship” before. Ticked me off and did show up late..
amazon when they still had the 20% discount screwed up more release day deliveries than they actually got right.

Just redeemed a 3 month GamePass subscription, going to knock out the two Metro games first but I can’t find the related rewards quests anywhere on my console.

Xbox site says “Head to the Xbox Game Pass membership area on your Xbox One console to find your quests.” Is this the the membership area in the My Games and Apps section? I don’t see anything related there...

Welp, my refurb 360 is actually not great. I hadn't used it for more than 10 minutes other than to rip discs and test out the disc drive.

Used it last night for a few hours, and after about 60-90 minutes, the display starts to get a horizontal split at the bottom of the screen that slowly creeps up. I thought it was a problem with the game I was playing, but it was on the dashboard too. Rebooting made it go away, and then it came back again within 90 minutes or so. Still haven't received my rebate, so I may just try to return or exchange.

Why do people take such bad care of their stuff? I know the 360 hardware was a little more fragile than other consoles, but the number of busted, dysfunctional systems that are out there now make it actually pretty hard to find a reliable system now.

Not sure I would jump to the conclusion it wasn't well taken care of. It is 5-10 years old and many were fairly fragile to begin with. Also who knows how many people owned it before you. Old electronics are a crapshoot. Even more so video game consoles refurbished by GS. I was tempted to grab one too but glad I didn't. I took good care of my PS3 fat. But after a bunch of years it sounded like a jet. I replaced the heat sync compound and it made no difference. I ended up trading it to Best Buy. It worked fine other then that but perhaps it was on its way out too.

Hopefully you can exchange it and get a better one.

I'm assuming it probably was delayed because it's a nintendo game. I've heard they're sometimes bad about getting their games out to retailers in time to ship them in time for release day. I may just say screw waiting and cancel it and get it in store if I don't have a shipping notification by the time I leave work tonight. Glad to hear they're usually pretty good, I have a couple other preorders that I set as delivery. Trying to make good use of GCU before I lose it in May.

Why do people take such bad care of their stuff? I know the 360 hardware was a little more fragile than other consoles, but the number of busted, dysfunctional systems that are out there now make it actually pretty hard to find a reliable system now.
I wish they included what was fixed or wrong with their refurbished consoles. I have had maybe six 360s some new and used but only one gamestop refurbished and it's the only one I've had problems with. It will randomly open the disc tray on its own, turning the console on as well. I was going to try my luck replacing it with another refurbished one but missed the deadline for the rebate. Figure I don't use it as frequently so I'll just keep it unplugged. I checked craigslist but it seems a decent amount of people on there think they can get more than it's worth.

Did you remember to shake out all the dead bugs?

RE2 demo was fantastic. Hopefully reviews well because I really enjoyed my short time with it. HDR seems borked on my TCL tho.

What's with the high priced remasters? Hitman remasters $60? Oof. As much as I love TOV, $50 is a bit high.
Which TCL do you have? I noticed that HDR on my TCL looked really dull and worse when playing RDR2 so I turned it off. Curious if HDR is just not great on the TCL. I have to double check but I believe I have the 55" 4 series?

65" Series 6 here. Destiny 2 looks fantastic on it. Maybe the difference between HDR and HDR10?

Is Microsoft still on a studio buying frenzy? I just heard Bungie is available Phil...

I didn’t like Destiny but I loved Bungies Halo games. Bring them back to Xbox making some type of creative shooter without the pressure from Activision to get call of duty numbers.

#BringBungieHome
I'm all for this, but the way Bungie ran from M$ and how they have actively screwed the Xbox users ever since I don't see this happening.

I found them in the Microsoft Rewards app. Download that if you haven't already, a s they'll be right in there for you.

That's a good point, esp. for something subtle like problems with video output which could be aged hardware. Still, I've encountered some 360s specifically that look like they were downright abused. I haven't seen any other consoles age so poorly. One more reason BC is so great.

HDR is fantastic on my P607. RDR2 is a bad test because as Digital Foundry discovered, it doesn’t even have real HDR. In fact, they said it’s best played with HDR off.

Though the 4-series is a lower end model so your mileage may vary.

OK... About Celeste... (*Rant Alert*  :bomb:  )

I am so glad I waited until it became a GWG.

It was touted as this wonderful piece of art and it brought awareness to mental health as well...

Not to sound like I am belittling that. I, like many of us, suffer from mental health issues and have to constantly jockey around with different medication combinations with my Dr.s. So I get it.

BUT THIS GAME DROVE ME INSANE!!!!

Got to the old lady. Started up the mountain.

The very first area you encounter with the strawberry above you and the pillar with the spikes on top in front of you...

40 minutes trying to get over that pillar. Never made it.
40 FN' MINUTES... Before I actually broke my controller with my bare hands.

I twisted it so hard I snapped it in half in the middle. And I have not had any kind of episode like this in over 30 years.

I even tried playing Super Meat Boy at one point and just went "Meh, it's not for me".

Yes, I had heard it was a little hard but I figured, hey I have beaten multiple Mega Man games in my day, surely I could get at least an hour or so of fun out of this. Everybody raves about it. Lets give it a try. BOY WAS I WRONG!!!

This brought attention to Mental Health for me only because IT MADE MINE WORSE!

I am not blaming anyone or anything. My actions are my own responsibility. I just wish that there was some kind of warning.

You can go into the options and turn on cheats, achievements still work. That's what I did (hey I've got a lot of games to get through). It still took me a while to find all the hidden strawberries and solve weird puzzles. Still lots of fun with cheats on. Probably a lot less frustrating, but I wouldn't know, didn't even try playing the game regularly.

It was shortly after it went GWG when this happened. Now that I have settled down, and realize there is a "cheats on mode", I MAY try that.
Thank you!

That's a hell of a reaction, I'd love to create a game or any work of art that people have strong reactions towards like Celeste.

I'm playing with just the double dash assist turned on. It makes the game fair being able to dash twice but not too easy, it's the perfect balance. However there are still times where I have to turn on invincibility for certain parts.

Everybody raves about it. Lets give it a try. BOY WAS I WRONG!!!
I've had this exact sentiment so many times in the past that I instinctively eyeroll whenever certain types of games get raves. If it's not a game I was originally excited for, then 99.9% of the time it will disappoint me.

Hope you feel better, and thanks for providing another reason why I should not play these games.

I made it to midway of chaper 4, got stuck and checked out the assist mode and blazed through the rest of the game with infinite double jump and immortality on. No regrets, I'd of never finished it otherwise...

Edit: I guess I could have made it possible and not idiot proof with the assist mode setting but couldn't resist the power....also I don't think it's possible to get the 1up achievement without infinite jump enabled.

Alright so my 21 achievement punchard filled, likely from the 25 achievements I earned in Doom since the 1st. None of those achievements from the 2nd-9th have ticked off the shooter portion of the other punchcard yet though. Also the bonus complete all punchcard seems to be missing.

The shooter portion of that quest didn't tick for me after earning achievements in Laser League (which was part of the games listed as part of the shooter bunch, I didn't get it either) and ... some other indie robot team-based ... thing.

Fired up Halo 5 for a quick score attack achievement, and that did it.

it is probably that delayed tracking, as of yesterday I didn't have the other 15 part ticked. A bit annoying since I want to use Sunset as the RPG one but it is also listed as a shooter so I don't know if it will let me double dip with two from that. Gonna have to grind out one of the last OnRush ones to get my driving one I think, unless I can get Split/Second to track since I still have that win an online race locked.

For the past week or so my HDR has seemed a bit funky on my 5 series. The notice in the corner when it was active stopped showing up and one or two games, and occasionally netflix, looked a bit dull. I updated the TV for the first time in a month or two and it seemed to do the trick. Don't know if it was the update or the hard reset the TV does after the update that fixed it.

That sucks, I played through all of Singularity on mine and didn't have any problem. Hopefully you can get a replacement. I'm still waiting for the rebate as well, but that's not surprising, they take like 8-10 weeks.

Honestly, that’s a decent deal if your a prepper, plus it’s something my kids would eat if we’re at war with China and eating food storage, I might buy one if they come back in stock.

Yeah, I do. The only quest I see is for Just Cause 4. Maybe I’ll delete it and reinstall.

I beat Celeste earlier this week. Died almost 1600 times, but I did it with no assists. Felt like a boss when I reached the summit.

If the rebate comes through, it may be tolerable as a backup system. If it gets worse or if the rebate isn't approved, though, I'll be pretty unhappy.

I may have to start Celeste this weekend.

In case anyone hasn't finished stocking up for the winter :

I'm more concerned it's out of stock

I think it happened to a lot of people the last couple weeks or so. Another place I frequent had a lot of reports of the same thing, not sure what happened but pulling the plug on the tv and doing a hard reset fixed it for myself. Didn't do an update manually but always could of been one behind the scenes.

I'm really enjoying Battlefront II. Bought mostly for the campaign but the mp is pretty fun though the leveling/unlocking makes it a tad frustrating. At least there is trip xp in some modes this weekend.

Coincidentally, I also started Celeste earlier today. I had kept my eye on it and was waiting for a sale on the eShop. Of course, that recently happened, and I got it for the Switch, and I hadn't even tried it when I saw the GWG announcement. So, you're sorta kinda welcome?

Anyway, I only played the first chapter, but I've seen some of the later, optional stuff. It looks downright punishing at times, but I'm not there yet. The first chapter was not too bad, so I can't relate to breaking a controller.

As has been mentioned, there is an assist mode, and I think we're getting to a place where enabling easy modes and the like are becoming less stigmatized. I hadn't really seen the necessity behind it until my wife started playing Mario Odyssey. She's not exactly a skillful gamer but occasionally dips into games every so often, and it really really helped her to keep going and not give up due to frustration. So don't give up on Celeste just yet!
This current race of the FF4 romhack is a clusterfuck. Too hard to follow 4 RPG runs at once and being a hack makes it ever harder. Terrible idea.
I'm just waiting for TAS block.

Does anyone know if Capcom said anything about the Resident Evil 2 Deluxe Edition being at all rare? I pre-ordered it from Target for the 15% off during Black Friday, but it sounds like it will have slow shipping. I'm thinking about canceling the pre-order and just going to get it at a store but I'm not sure if I'll be able to find it. Specifically I want to get it at Best Buy with my friend's still active GCU discount so I couldn't pre-order there.

Honestly I might just bite the bullet and spend the extra $10 to be able to pick it up at Gamestop or something, at least I can pre-order then.

I mainly wanted to play through the campaign as well but how found the multiplayer surprisingly enjoyable. Since I got it through EA Access I’ve played multiplayer on and off since it came out through the trial version and it was noticeably worse before. Yes, there are still people who are just seem impossible to kill in multiplayer but that’s not unusual. I don’t mind the grind to increase classes because I typically keep to two different classes and never use heroes. I’m not a fan of playing multiplayer. Sometimes it’s fun but I prefer story driven single player games. The only thing I find frustrating about the game is the load times.

Some accusations against Gearbox's Randy Pitchford came out earlier that are about as heavy as possible, from the companies former lawyer that is currently suing him and Gearbox. It's adult in nature so I'm spoilering:

https://kotaku.com/former-gearbox-lawyer-accuses-ceo-randy-pitchford-of-ta-1831679539

https://arstechnica.com/gaming/2019/01/gearbox-ceo-allegedly-kept-underage-porn-on-usb-stick-new-lawsuit-alleges/

-$12,000,000 "secret bonus" to basically embezzle funds to himself

-Lost a flash drive with "underage porn" and company secrets on it in 2014, then made the evidence disappear before any copies made or recorded.

-Hosting parties at his home where “adult men have reportedly exposed themselves to minors, to the amusement of Randy Pitchford.”

From what I've seen of him over the years, I think Pitchford is a shithead and honestly wouldn't put it past him to steal money from the company, not after everything we learned about Colonial Marines development and this little number (linked below) from a few months ago.  He is also know to lie about stuff and be good at telling these lies since he was/is a professional magician. Look up the bullshit story about Gearbox's name and a poker game on a boat with Gabe Newell to earn it.

That said, the fact that this guy has absolutely zero proof, and put all of this out there at once now, while not reporting either of the sexual things to the police in the past four years screams that he's trying to destroy his reputation with lies out of spite. Even if there was some lawyer confidentiality stuff I can't imagine point three would be covered by it. The opening article is worth looking at for full context, and Gearbox made a response statement that was added to it. Pitchford admitted a few weeks ago on a podcast (recorded before the suit was filed even) that the USB incident did happen, but that the referenced porn was a squirting video of a camgirl named "Only 18". It does sound a bit suspect, but Pitchford says his assistant is the one who got the USB back, and that many other people at Gearbox saw the content including the porn, and doesn't mention what happened to it after that.
