Some notes
  • You cannot currently buy any Xbox 360 content on xbox.com using your account balance, you can only use an active credit card or PayPal. To use your balance, you must make purchases on your console.  Unfortunately, even "purchasing" free content through the web site like trials requires an alternative method of payment tied to your account, though adding an empty MasterCard / Visa gift card that is registered for online purchases will work.  Xbox One games can be purchased on the web site with your account balance.
  • Some sales are intended for Gold subscribers only, as noted within each section.
On Xbox One, Gold trials of any length work for sales and Games with Gold.  You must be an active Gold subscriber (paid or trial) to play Games with Gold purchases.
  • On Xbox 360, you must have at least a 1 month Gold subscription for sales and Games with Gold.  Neither 48 hour trials, 14 day trials nor free weekends qualify.

I personally really liked Force Unleashed 2. Its gameplay was very fun, and gameplay is the reason I play video games. If I wanted to enjoy a great story I'd watch a Tv series or a movie.

Speaking of tv series, as a huge Batman fan I also really enjoy Gotham. I think they did a perfect job mixing the cheesiness of the 1960s series with the dark grittiness of the Nolan movies.

But maybe I just like bad things, idk.

Do people actually watch Gotham?
I believe that I read somewhere the other day that they are making a show about Alfred next. I swear, out of all the characters DC could do a show about, they choose Alfred. That proves that most Hollywood people have their heads all the way up their asses.

I watched Justice League vs The Fatal Five last night, heads up that identity politics made its way into DC. Laziest introduction of a character as I think I’ve ever seen

Heads up if you guys plan to preorder Fallen Order: EA Access will give you a 10% discount, but booting up BF2 and ordering from within the menu will give you an additional 10% off for “owning” it. This appears to apply to the deluxe edition only.

I pre-ordered, saw the deal, cancelled, and pre-ordered again. If gameplay comes and looks bad, I’ll cancel again. I liked that trailer though.

You should wait. I will bet there will be a 6000 point bonus punch card like all EA games.

Been looking forward to that one since it's the closest we're going to get to a continuation of Justice League Unlimited.

As an aside, I've been playing Scribblenauts Unmasked on Xbox One on and off since this morning. It's riddled with bugs to the point that I've had to restart the game a few times when the puzzles hit points in the game where the plot would not advance if certain tasks weren't completed in the right order, but I give the developers credit for jamming in as many obscure DC characters as they possibly could and even updating the character roster to include changes that have happened since DC Rebirth. I beat the game on Wii U a few years back, so I can see the differences although they didn't take the time to improve the control interface. It would probably be more fun on a tablet.

So, I was at the Mixer announcement for Star Wars: Whatever the Jedi Whatever Whatever. I don't give a crap about that; I was just there for the MixPot of Knights of the Old Republic. When will we be getting that goodie?

So the Star Wars: Fallen Order presentation, uh, within the 30+ minutes or so of that presentation did they actually say or show anything worth mentioning besides a pre rendered trailer? I See a bunch of excitement for the game, but really nothing to show for it.

The timing for this presentation was unfortunate.

The panel event needed to be closer to the release date so that it could be more satisfying for all involved. The developers needed to be able to show more gameplay and overlay that with discussion of the actual gameplay mechanics & loop. You know - the old George Lucas maxim of "Show, don't tell."

Instead, the developers discussed how much they love Star Wars, how talented the team is, gave us a very long-winded elevator pitch of what we already saw on Reddit that took less than a minute to read, and then showed us a CGI trailer that looked way less impressive than was made for EA's own The Old Republic project a decade ago.

It was a struggle to watch. I cannot imagine attending.

I saw a new offer and thought finally had Game Pass Quests back. But it was an offer for Metro, where you have to own all 3 Metro games and get achievements in them.

Was hoping it would be like what other people are getting where games are in gamepass.

Man oh man, xbox loves playing with my OCD. For weeks now Resident Evil Revelations 2 has been listed as "BHR2" (Biohazard Revelations 2) in my games list, eventhough the title picture says it's still Resident Evil Revelations 2 and so it's now far and away from the rest of the games in the series. I'm not losing sleep over it, but everytime I browse my digital games library and see it, I silently yell in my head.

That's always so frustrating. Call of Duty is bad with that too. Most games are where they should be but then some are listed just as "COD" and then the modern warfare games are under M. Wish you could just rename stuff or could make folders in the game list to sort stuff.

That super annoys me also. In addition to renaming I also like someone's idea where they said you should be able to change the cover art for the game as well. Maybe give you several options to choose from.

This actually gets on my nerves with sports games too. For example, EA will have some of the games listed like "EA NHL 15" and then the next year it's just "NHL 16", so they're not at all near each other in the list. Like...who the hell doesn't pay attention to how the game gets listed? Why wouldn't these games be side by side?

I suggested this in Xbox Ideas awhile ago but it didn't make it through the votes. Maybe if enough of us keep suggesting it, we'll get the ball rolling

It wouldn't let me quote from the original Gotham post, but yeah I still watch it. Looks like 2 episodes left. It's getting really interesting what's going on with the ties ins. That's about all I can say without spoiling it.

Oof. I Wasn't sure if I missed anything when I only caught the last ten minutes because I thought "there's no way it had to be so boring that they have to do pointless giveaway and ask the crowd if they want to see the trailer again, right??"

It wouldn't let me quote from the original Gotham post, but yeah I still watch it. Looks like 2 episodes left. It's getting really interesting what's going on with the ties ins. That's about all I can say without spoiling it.
Spoiler: he becomes Batman and beats up criminals that are now all his parent's or grandparent's age.

I believe that I read somewhere the other day that they are making a show about Alfred next. I swear, out of all the characters DC could do a show about, they choose Alfred. That proves that most Hollywood people have their heads all the way up their asses.
So the "Teen Titans Go To The Movies" joke is becoming a reality. What a time to be alive.

Couple of things:
Why didn't they wait until May to do the celebration?

I hope they don't make KotOR GWG anytime soon.. we only have 4 more Xbox OG Star Wars games left.

I agree that the lack of a character creator/customizer is lame and implies they're going for the cinematic thing so they can milk canon tie-in merch/follow-ups.

This wouldn't be such a big deal if we had another series like 1313 that did let us make our own character (can we be an alien race already?) or if the character seemed interesting (so far it doesn't, and I think the VA choice was a mistake). I also think it's a budget thing because it's voiced and a "small scale" project.

Teaser for Rise of the Skywalker was good, though I'm skeptical that it will salvage this mess of a trilogy.

Well know ya spoiled the show for me lol

You forgot to hide it in the spoiler tag.

But , it thought what I've seen so far was pretty good. Both marvel and DC have had their issues with shows/movies. For example the Peggy carter show, green lantern movie, ghost rider spirit of vengeance, and I'm sure there's plenty more.

I just dont understand. Doesnt enforcing the "too much white" thing get old after a while? WHY try to make characters a certain gender or race just to do that?

If it fits, it fits. You already have TONS of games that have non-white characters, including Mafia 3, Watch Dogs 2, Sleeping Dogs, and many others, all which are very good games. You also have many great games with white main characters too.

If they had a white main character in a game like Yakuza, then that would be a little too much.
Hi WeeDoo, Anthropological researcher here with a master's in Sociocultural Anthropology who's recent work has been on racial representations and stereotypes in video games. Perhaps I may help shed some light on the conversation.

There is no enforcing of "too much white" in the video game industry, it is simply a discussion topic about a real problem. From a sociocultural perspective, the amount of white/black/hispanic/asian/etc. protagonists in games should be similar to the actual population. When you eliminate sports games and games without humans, somewhere around 82% of the heroes in video games are white even though the population in American is closer to 70%. Sex is even worse where only 15% of main characters are female when populations are closer to 50/50 (and that's without even touching gender/sexuality). When a hero character is a different ethnicity, way to often their backstory makes them half white or they are given lighter skin tones than the rest of the characters of the same ethnicity. Villains also tend to receive a skin tone darkening, even when they are the same ethnicity of the other characters.

"They already have games" sounds very much like "let them eat cake." There are not "tons" of games, there are less than there should be and only handfuls of good representations. "They" consists of many different cultures and ethnicities, some of which are highly underrepresented in video games. To make things worse, many of those representation are so racially stereotyped that we shouldn't be counting them as games of diversity at all. I did a research project specifically on the representation of Native Americans in video games. I tried to find every single game with representation over a 10 year span. Out of tens of thousands of video games, I found about 30. Even though Native Americans account for close to 2% of the American population, less than 0.09% of games over 10 years had Native American characters. In 1/3 of those games the characters were non-playable enemies for cowboys to shoot, and many of the playable characters were half white or overly stereotyped. Never Alone was the best positive representation.

Now I agree that diversity should not be shoehorned into historical settings that don't make sense (like your Yakuza reference). However the majority of games are open designs where almost any ethnicity/gender/sex could fit. You asked Why try to diversify? Well we shouldn't be "trying" to diversify games, it should be happening naturally to reflect the real world. When results don't match the population, it reveals power dynamics in our society. It is important because under representation actually has negative side effects in the real world, but I'd need to present you guys a dissertation to go through all of that (and no one wants that, lol). Just know that we have thousands of studies on the psychological effects of under representation and stereotyped representations in video games.

I hope that helps with understanding how complex the issue is. I absolutely love video games. But we can also be logically critical about the things we love. My work does seem to show that there is a trend of better, less stereotyped characters in the last few years.

How many obscure lantern characters are there? I'm sure the major ones are there (Atrocitus, Larfleeze, etc.), and then the major "little guys" (Dex-Starr, Mongul, Kiliwog), but how obscure are we talking to still get included? Do we see the likes of Ch'p and Mogo? What about Lyssa Drak and Kryb? And what about Yellow Lantern Batman and Green Lantern Batman or the different versions of Hal Jordan? Just how much is included? This is where my geek brain goes.

Is Subnautica worth the entry? I have $10 expiring in May
Whoo.. There is a lot to that game. I've had it since it first appeared on early access, I had some fun with it then, but now that it's a full game with achievements and all... It's been a bit overwhelming to get back into. My wife played it a TON since the full version, and she unlocked maybe a few small achievements in that timeframe. It's a game that requires some commitment.

Was traumatized by this happening tonight. So many children started spasming in their seats.

It has been a while, since launch for me, but gameplay-wise I felt like the game brought little to the table. The addition of a second lightsaber is essentially cosmetic only and brings nothing new to the table. There also wasn't much new for force powers. The biggest problem is the extremely short length of the campaign, with only 4 real levels (one of which is reused) and way fewer boss fights than the previous game. I finished it in under 4 hours. The first game is a roller coaster of new planets and experiences, has several unique bosses, and has a lot more care put into every faucet of the game. (Tons of easter eggs, Starkiller's outfit changes several times through the story, a lot of unlockable outfits, skins, and cheats)

As for story, I can feel you but not everyone is in the John "games are like porn" Carmack camp from 20 years ago. The Force Unleashed was heavily marketed with its story just as much as it was the force powers, with the game featuring a bunch of interaction with movie characters and being the canon (at the time) story between episodes 3 and 4. They do some interesting things with Starkiller and TFU2 basically flushes all that for a bizarre clone story that somewhat shits on his character arc and really destroys the setting if you think about it at all. (They can clone someone with force powers, especially as powerful as his? Why not clone Vader himself?) Even in their own game they hid a hugely important piece of the story that just makes you question what happened unless you finding enough collectibles.

Hell, I think the gameplay argument is weak anyways. Outside of the force powers the combat in these games is only serviceable, and maybe the platforming can do something for some players. If you want pure character-action gameplay there are a bunch of better options from the era, DMC4, Bayonetta, Metal Gear Rising, Darksiders 1 and 2.

I Started Monster Hunter World last night and it let me pick what kinda cat companion I want and name him. I Named him Toonces and then that's how I know we peaked in character customization so everything else doesn't matter anymore.

You basically won't know until you get a message on XBox or it just starts automatically downloading the game. One or the other will come before the other, but from my experience even if you watch five minutes or so you should have a pretty good chance of getting whatever the free thing is.
Oh just wait until you start crafting armor and weapons for your pal. And Poogie costumes.

I finally got around to watching that Jedi Fallen Order trailer. Looks fantastic to me. The wall running part gives me Titanfall 2 vibes and that campaign was great!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0GLbwkfhYZk

I typically play as a female when given the option in a video game but without the option I'll settle for this funny looking Jedi. I can see both sides of the argument. It definitely widens your audience if you include more diverse cast of characters. My wife thinks Rey is awesome and has been more interested in the newer Star Wars movies then she ever was in the old ones, so I can see first hand why it matters. From a business side I also get it though, if you think the majority of people that are going to buy your game are sweaty white males then you are probably inclined to make the main character a white male.

I always think more options are better then less when it comes to games, but I would guess like someone else said, this game is probably cut scene heavy, so they can't let you customize the character without losing cut scene quality maybe?

I miss the PC games that used to have the big list of cheats for unlimited money, big head mode, god mode, reveal the map. I wish more Xbox games would include cheats, I think it adds a lot to the game if you can cheat. I remember doing the cheats in Turok on N64 after I had beat the game, it's fun to have ALL the guns unlocked with unlimited ammo so you can run around and do whatever you want.

I'm just amazed at the quality and quantity of games we get these days. I have a mountain of gaming in my backlog and everything just looks so fantastic. If this Star Wars game ends up looking as good as it does so far closer to launch, its probably something I'll pick up on day 1, it all depends on what else is coming out at the same time though too. I know I want Borderlands 3, so we shall see how much of my life that is taking over at the time. My wife and I played Borderlands and Borderlands 2 together, so I assume we will do the same for 3, so that is way more fun to me then a single player game.

Yeah I'm very interested in the movement aspects of a new title from Respawn, does seem to be something they excel at with the Titanfall wall running and jumping to just the dumb fun of sliding down hills in Apex. Throw some Jedi Powers into the mix and they can come up with something special. I think the trailer looks pretty good, and I didn't expect there to be any real info or gameplay footage, it wasn't really an event geared for that. Probably get it at E3.

Do people actually watch Gotham?
I wish they showed gameplay, I assume we will see it at E3. This literally could have described The Force Unleashed 10 years ago.
It's really bad, takes the story in a terrible direction compared to the first, and feels unfinished likely due to being made during the death of LucasArts. You're better off with any of the recent OG games they made BC, or replaying TFU 1.

After reading your post from just the last 2 pages it looks like you just like to hate on things, so I'm just gonna say this real quick and be done. Calling it a really bad game is just dumb. Are those games you listed better than Force Unleashed 2? Maybe, but he said it made him want to play a Star Wars game, and those aren't Star Wars games. Force Unleashed 2 definitely has flaws but it's still a fun game, especially if you're a Star Wars fan. And like you said, it's a pretty short game. So if for some reason he doesn't like it, atleast it'll be over quick.

I don't want to give away spoilers for others since the appeal of Scribblenauts Unmasked is encountering the various DC characters and using them to solve the puzzles, but the game boasts over 150 Green Lanterns (alive and dead), and that doesn't include the members of the Guardians of the Universe, the Blue, Orange, Purple, and Red Lanterns, the Sinestro Corps, and the supporting civilian franchise characters that appear.

Since I don't want to spoil the game for anyone, here's a link to Giant Bomb's list of all of the DC characters if you want a sneak peek.

https://www.giantbomb.com/scribblenauts-unmasked-a-dc-comics-adventure/3030-42637/characters/

There are also achievements for summoning alternate versions of the Justice League members during certain puzzles as well if that helps. There are also dozens of types of famous equipment including weapons and totems that you can summon and use during battle, and the main character Maxwell can wear an assortment of hero and villain costumes in-game with the appropriate powers once they have been unlocked. But, you have to beat the game before you can access those.

Obviously every DC character ever made was not included. I think that they were only able to cap off the number at 2000, and there are a fair number of those that aren't really useful for anything in-game. (Space Cabbie does show up during one of the puzzles!) Interestingly enough, I learned to read by reading the Pre-Crisis issues of Who's Who in the DC Universe that came out in 1984 and 1985, so I probably know more of those characters than the newer ones, but I was shocked at the amount of minor heroes and villains and supporting characters that they were able to cram in. I stopped buying DC Comics shortly after Flashpoint ended and the New 52 started, but Superman's costume was changed to his DC Rebirth costume for the game's PS4 and Xbox One release, so new content has definitely been added to the game since its original release on 3DS and Wii U.

To be clear, this is the DC Comics game that I had been waiting for all my life when I first played it, and if anyone had ever told me that it would someday be made, my head would have exploded. Like the other Scribblenauts games, it is fun, and that fun is made exponentially better because you can summon DC characters along with regular objects, but when you create a cosmic-level hero and he doesn't immediately start trying to kick Darkseid's ass even though they should be sworn enemies, there is definitely a bug in the software. So, I kept hitting restart on certain parts. But, I'd give the game 8 out of 10 for effort and execution. I played it on and off for 6 hours yesterday.

I bought a new disc copy of the Scribblenauts Mega Pack at GameStop (it's on sale for $10 right now), and it's well worth the price. With Scribblenauts Unlimited included in the package, it's a bargain. Sorry for the long post, but Scribblenauts Unmasked is one of those hidden gems that comic book fans and puzzle game fans should definitely try.

TFUII is definitely a cash-in with no soul compared to the first game. It's still some mindless force-destruction-entertainment, though. Most people here likely have it from GWG, and if that's the case, it's an easy recommendation so long as expectations are managed.

HOWEVER - there seems to be a save game glitch when playing via BC which can erase data. It happened to me, and some poking around online suggests it wasn't an isolated thing. I have no idea how likely it is, but be warned.

Thank you for the link to the list. Just spent the last few minutes going through everyone, and it's amazing how many characters they crammed into this game. I'm big on the Lanterns, so while I'm saddened that certain ones aren't on that list, the ones that are included make me happy, as well as the other obscure characters. And if Gamrstop has this for 10 bucks, that's a total steal.

2019 from Remedy and EA and you have no interest in character creation? You’re a simpler person than I. Hell as a cag I won’t touch this single player game till it drops in price for lack of replayability. Character creator would help.
I don't care about character creation in any game, what does my characters looks have anything to do with my enjoyment?

I'd rather the devs just create an interesting character and bring them to life vs some sloppy random guy I created

I'm the same way. I actually fear character creators because of the abominations I always manage to create when there is a character creator. Whenever I play a ME game, I have to go with the default because whatever comes out of the character creator when I play around with it is enough to justify the Reapers destroying the galaxy.

Because I dislike two things in two pages? Whatever you say. I post plenty of positive stuff in this thread, I just really disliked TFU2 because it strongly felt like a cash grab rushed out the door because the Disney buyout was imminent. General reception to the game was mixed at best and it's sitting right around 60 for both the critic and user scores on Metacritic and Steam so I am not alone there. I was simply saying that there are plenty of better options for good all-around SW game, and detailing why I felt TFU2 is bad. For me, if gameplay alone is going to save a game it needs to be best in class, and Force Unleashed simply isn't.

If someone really loves Force Unleashed for it's gameplay and nothing else then sure, they should play 2 because it does give you a few more levels to go through. But if you liked the complete package of a Star Wars experience, 2 simply does not have that same magic, and I think it's bad enough that it may even drag down the first game for some people. Why go to the mediocre at best SW option when KotOR 1 and 2, Republic Commando, Jedi Academy, and the classic Battlefront games are all playable on Xbox, and three off which have also been GwG? I'd even recommend the reboot Battlefront 2 over TFU2.

No matter what game I'm playing, if I have the option I'm going to try to create a character that looks just like me. Granted, we are usually restricted by generic hair / beard options that don't usually make it recognizable but I do pretty well. It really helps my immersion when I'm playing games.

The EA Gameface feature is one that doesn't work very well but when I finally got my face imported into UFC my wife couldn't believe it. And she was also funny enough to act like when I was playing that it was me getting my ass whooped on screen.

Didn’t mean to start a fight bringing STFU 2 up, lol. Actually started playing the first one again. Been quite a while.

On another note, if you have even a mild interest in fighting games, highly recommend DB Fighterz for $15. Really do think it may be the best fighter so far this gen at least from the perspective of someone is mediocre at best at these type of games.

I already had it and went digital (trades for $15 right now with the bonus GS has with their spring sale).

After I first posted, I noticed that Scribblenauts Unmasked has a character creation mode, so in theory, you could add the other Lanterns to the game if you wanted to do that. To tell the truth, I'm not sure how to enable them to appear in the game as NPCs or as enemies, so I assume that you can play as the created characters after you beat the game. I'm not sure. I wish video games had instruction manuals in the cases like they used to. I had to do a lot of online research to figure out some of the puzzle solutions because a few of them are more linear than others, and understanding how to use the modifying adjectives is key to success in both Scribblenauts games.

Speaking of Star Wars, the Battlefront Hoth bundle sure seems like a good deal, but is the original Battlefront (current gen obv) worth having, do people still play it?

Been waiting for Outcast: Second Contact since I forgot to redeem the free Humble Steam key for it on PC last year.  Still kicking myself over that.  But I have a second chance at Second Contact!

Will likely be the first Xbox One GWG game I play in almost 3 years.

lol did you post this just to hate on fortnite??
if you can't laugh at children doing silly dances, i can't help you.
I like the game and enjoy it when I do play. I am being help, yes. Seeing incredibly odd dances from those 5-35 does not give me joy.

Hellboy was pretty good, ended a little quickly for all the exposition, but I thought it fit the spirit of the universe pretty well. Too much violence and swearing is the critique my parents would give.

Room for a sequel?
