Some notes
  • You cannot currently buy any Xbox 360 content on xbox.com using your account balance, you can only use an active credit card or PayPal. To use your balance, you must make purchases on your console.  Unfortunately, even "purchasing" free content through the web site like trials requires an alternative method of payment tied to your account, though adding an empty MasterCard / Visa gift card that is registered for online purchases will work.  Xbox One games can be purchased on the web site with your account balance.
  • Some sales are intended for Gold subscribers only, as noted within each section.
On Xbox One, Gold trials of any length work for sales and Games with Gold.  You must be an active Gold subscriber (paid or trial) to play Games with Gold purchases.
  • On Xbox 360, you must have at least a 1 month Gold subscription for sales and Games with Gold.  Neither 48 hour trials, 14 day trials nor free weekends qualify.

[*]All known sales and information on sales should make their way into the OP. Major Nelson usually updates his blog with new sales information every Tuesday.
[*]ALL OFFERS ARE SUBJECT TO CHANGE! No information within this thread can or should be construed as accurate (or still valid), therefore ...
[*]Always verify Xbox Live Marketplace prices before your purchase!

What’s everyone playing this weekend? I need some backlog inspiration.
Forza Horizon 4. Had to use or lose vacation time yesterday, so I already put plenty of time into the Lego DLC. Wasn't sure I'd be able to pull it off, but got 3 stars on all the PR stunts with only Lego cars. Have only done a couple of the races so far. Also going to knock out most of the weekly festival playlist in the base game.

Weekly Forzathon stuff in FM7.

Nearing the end of Borderlands GOTY play through 1. Can probably wrap that up and start Zombie Island.

Probably mix in a little progress in the Gears 4 challenges.

And, of course, Tetris 99.

I know some people have posted about how difficult it is to use Microsoft credit to buy Xbox 360 games without an Xbox 360.  I was looking at the pre-owned Xbox 360 systems on GameStop.com this morning, and they have E models for as low as $59.99 right now.  Barring that, the older models are even cheaper if you just need to buy one for that purpose or to play the 360 games that aren't backwards compatible.

I have gotten oddly sucked into Forza Horizon 4 so will probably play more of that. Also, I gotta find time to bang out an episode of Life is Strange: Before the Storm.

Trying to get PC Gamepass to work, it needs some special windows update that doesn't want to install. I want to play Slay the Spire.
Try turning off your anti-virus while doing the install. While I had Panda Dome active, Build 1903 of Win 10 would not install (required for Xbox PC Beta). Once I turned it off, it installed just fine, the Xbox app too and have played several hours of Game Pass games (mostly the above mentioned FH4).

Just be sure to take the console outside and shake it really hard to get all the roaches out (never move your console around with a disc inside though)

Since we are saying goodbye to new backwards compatible games on Xbox One, I just want to say it was an awesome service on this system. There are a few games I would have liked to see that never made it, but in general I made out very well with the program. It was much more satisfying than BC on Xbox 360 and I am now hooked on Xbox One X enhancements and what that means for Scarlett in the future.

I bought way too many BC games for my backlog compared to what I originally owned on 360 from launch. I ended up with 223 unique Xbox 360 and Xbox Original games that were made backwards compatible on my Xbox One. Even though all of those games worked just fine, I purchased remastered Xbox One versions for 20 of the games. I'll probably purchase another 15 BC Xbox 360 games when they go on sale

I have one digital game that refuses to work even though I own it and asked Microsoft customer service for help (Dead Space Ignition).

Looking at my shelf and digital 360 games list, I had 10 Xbox Originals and 73 Xbox 360 games that were not made backwards compatible. But out of all of those, I was able to replace 25 of the games with higher quality ports and remasters, some unexpectedly on PS4 (Indigo Prophecy, GTA III and Vice, Bard's Tale). 14 of the non-BC games, I'm fine with owning their sequels.

In the end the only ones that really hurt are:

The Beatles: Rock Band

Darkstalkers Resurrection

Eternal Sonata

Fatal Frame

Guitar Hero (only because I have over 1,000 songs that can't import into the Xbox One Version, thankfully RockBand did)

Marvel vs Capcom 2 (I may finally buy one of the new ones)

Mortal Kombat Arcade (1-3)

Rallisport Challenge 2

Silent Hill 4

TMNT 1989 and TMNT Turtles in Time

Vigilante 8 Arcade

X-men Arcade

Mortal Kombat Arcade (1-3)

Rallisport Challenge 2

Silent Hill 4

TMNT 1989 and TMNT Turtles in Time

Vigilante 8 Arcade

X-men Arcade

might be off on a few, i dont necessarily mind if they didnt get an upgrade but always hoped i could at least but in the disc and play on the one, well more reasons to never be quick to upgrade to the next gen and always to make sure u get/keep an older system for nostalgia purposes, i started late in doing this but right now i have a new backup vita and 3ds, wished i had gotted a backup 360 when it was towards the end, will make sure to get a new x for a backup before scarlet comes out

Hey, I already own an S and a E. Both of mine were bought brand-new!
I picked up another S model when Game Stop were giving them away for free back around black Friday. Works pretty well. I now own 4 XBox 360s. 1 Pro , 1 E, and 2 S models. I tend to hold onto my game related stuff.

Enchanted Arms became BC in the last batch of BC titles.

Oh the folly of backlog. After the storage talk I was moving things around and clearing space, saw I had Kingdoms of Amalur installed. It's letting me run it, so I bought it at some point.

I'm still shocked the max Payne collection never went bc. Really upset by that. Sad that lollipop chainsaw nor silent Hill 4 never went bc either

I never tried the third one. But 1 and 2 would have been nice with the automatic 4K X Enhancements for Xbox Original games. Now I will finally pull the trigger on buying the first Max Payne on PS4.... and then probably buy it again on Scarlett....

Unf. the PS2 version of Max Payne is really inferior because it only has manual saving through the options menu, which I think is true in the PS4 version. The Xbox and PC version had a quicksave option since they had HDDs. I'm assuming this wasn't fixed/changed for the PS4 upscale port, so you've been warned.

Games I wish made it to BC but didn't
-El Shaddi
-Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions
-Max Payne 1-3
-Soul Calibur 4
-BlazBlue
-Mortal Kombat
I loved El shaddi but couldn’t finish it because I got that weird glitch where the screen would go blank for a second or two after killing an enemy making it insanely annoying to progress. I could never find a solution and the devs stopped support years ago.

Isn't BC coming back after Project Scarlett releases? They made it seem like this was the case so don't lose hope on those games becoming BC in the future.

Yeah, it's just a bummer we have to wait 18 months to really know what's going to happen when it picks back up. I kind of expect a larger focus on OG Xbox games, since there really aren't that many 360 games left that are feasible. What have we named in the last few posts, like 40?

I dunno. Everyone's list seems to be almost 50% filled with things that were never going to go BC due the publisher no longer having the licence to the property it is based on, the music featured or the cars being driven.

This is my first time ever paying for Gold so I have to start checking out everything that's included. I of course did this to get the Ultimate deal but it will also be nice to get REAL free 360 and Xbox games. I don't consider the games with gold games as free even though they are advertised as free. It's false advertising really since once you stop paying for Gold, you can't access those games. The real free games are the 360 and Xbox games.

Revisiting Shenmue this weekend, I loved the Game on my Dreamcast but acually the Dreamcast was the only console I ever sold out of my whole collection..soo I'm really glad to revisit it, still remembering a lot is helpful in my playthrough haha

At least it's on hiatus for a good reason, I'd rather the existing ~500+ games that are BC work on the next generation than pump out more games that won't be future-compatible. And we may get more after it releases. Best of all, Scarlet will probably be able to enhance all 360 games some, similar to how X1 enhances all OG games at 4x the resolution. For games that had no PC port or remaster, keeping them playable at all is a pretty great thing.

Yeah, that's a problem with part of my wishlist as well. For me it's:

Max Payne 1-3 (this one seems super obvious and has to happen when things start back up)

The Simpsons Game (licensing...probably won't happen...but Road Rage and Hit & Run are BC with 360...would love those too)

Lollipop Chainsaw

50 Cent Blood In The Sand (licensing...but I mean, can we not get this done? lol)

Leisure Suit Larry: Box Office Bust

So if anyone's looking for good games for Game Pass quests, I recommend The Turing Test for Achievement Hunter and ID@Xbox (short, enjoyable game, easy to 100%, and qualifies for both despite not being on the ID@Xbox list) and Wolf 2: The New Colossus for the Wolf 2 quest and the new games quest.

Like I mentioned before, I'm playing Arkham Knight and have gotten achievements but the counter still says 0 out of 10.

I feel pretty much the same way that you do, but I see the Xbox One games as a gateway to checking out the games that the system has to offer. Most of the Xbox One games aren't games that I would try out otherwise. Rivals of Aether isn't that great as a single player title (I already have it on Steam), so it would probably be online multiplayer or nothing for me with a game like that which would require Xbox Live. I'm not a sports fan, but having access to NHL is cool in case I ever want to fire it up when I get bored. If I ever decide not to renew my Gold, I still have the 360 and original Xbox games on my account. But then, I said about Game Pass exactly what you said about Gold - it would be nice to own the games instead of them just being an extended rental. I haven't upgraded to Ultimate because my backlog is so big, and I only have 37 cents on my account right now.

Up until like 2013, we got no games with gold.

I'll take whatever I get.

Honestly, Max Payne 1 and 2 are way better on PC than console and shouldn't be hard to run on most modern PCs. I recommend getting them in the next steam sale and enjoying them to their fullest.

Yes, I have paid for EA Access using Microsoft credit 2 different times.
Thanks. I’ll try and give it a shot after mine ends. The only game I’ve been playing with it lately has been Battlefield V. Sometimes I play the games on it and then don’t at all.

I hope these cowards rot in hell.
Always meet in a public place or police station. When they ask for proof it works, I do a video call and show them turning it on and connecting online showing it works and it's not console banned. Never go to a 2nd location if asked after meeting at agreed location. Also depending what state you're in carry and have a friend/family ride with you also carrying and have them video record the whole transaction. Is it over kill just to sale a item to a another person? Maybe but you never know who you're meeting.

Descenders is a pretty cool Game Pass title.  It's a down hill bike racing game with some cool tracks and set pieces. Buddy and I were playing that late last night cracking up having a blast.  The online connection isn't the most stable, but I guess because it's still in Game Preview.

That's my current go-to game in between my solo games (Gears of War 1/Life Is Strange 2). Also cleaned up the achievements on the Shaq-Fu game, which I got through a bear489 giveaway some time ago.  Decent side scroller beat em up title with some funny Shaq comedy sprinkled in.  I can see it hitting Game Pass at some point.

Feels good to actually play some games!

Turing Test has been counting correctly for me, so try that instead?

Just finished it as well. Good game, very anticlimactic ending.

Yeah, if we're at a point where this much is necessary, it's not worth the trouble. Even if you're carrying, you're willingly walking into a situation which you acknowledge could end in a freaking shootout. At that point, even Gamestop is a better option.

Thank you, that's good to know. I currently have no playable versions of Max Payne, so I'm okay with it just being a PS2 port with visual and frame rate enhancements. Looks like they at least added trophies.

Normally I'd jump on something like that. My laptop has a GTX 950m so it can run games decently, but I'm not set up to stream efficiently to my TV. I've found that games I buy on PC I tend to ignore and never play.

Hahaha, Sales are down and you have swooped in to save them with a new slogan: "Gamestop--It's better than a freaking shootout."

or maybe "Gamestop--we'll give you pennies on the dollar, but it's better than a bullet in the head."

Sell online whenever possible. If that isn't possible, demand that the transaction occur in a neutral zone with witnesses, like a coffee shop or casual restaurant. A police station isn't a bad option either, if you really want to be sure. I wouldn't suggest packing heat... then they'll think YOU have something planned.

Poor kid, though. Geez. The perps made a bad bet... there's no way taking a life was worth an Xbox and some pocket change. They'll be hunted down like dogs and thrown in prison for the rest of their lives, making it a bad deal for them even if the guilt from the act doesn't haunt them.

I know there aren’t many destiny 2 players here but I’ll just vent and say it took me way too long to find my current quests and challenges after the update and Tess eververse’s shop now looks a like a shotgun blast of info that overwhelms me each time.

I fall so behind on these seasons I usually just stop playing the game. Not sure I’m still in to go back to the moon.

Haha, after writing that out it does sound horrible. In practice tho it's not bad. I sold couple of dvds to some girl on Thursday. I already have a mirror cam in my truck so I was able to capture every thing, we agreed to meet at Kroger, and as for carrying I don't think much of it since I've been carrying for 12 years when I turned 21. The main thing is meet in a very public area even go as far as going into a mall and making the transaction. The first time I sold a xbox 360 I meet the buyer in a food court at the local mall.

Not sure why you’re making jokes about something like that.

Lots of people are complaining about the Pursuits section being moved. I think it's just a matter of getting used to the way it is now.

I'd probably just wait until the F2P update hits in September. Unless you're up to date on DLC I feel like most of what you do now won't matter, and I saw something that said the overall flow of the game's activities are going to change.

I heard Eververse had a pretty big overhaul designed around letting you buy exactly what you want rather than dealing with lootboxes, which was likely in preparation of F2P so they can get it tuned properly before it hits.

Not sure a situation in which the buyer and seller are both paranoid as hell and packing heat in front of a police station is the best idea.
