Please note:

  • You cannot currently buy any Xbox 360 content on xbox.com using your account balance, you can only use an active credit card or PayPal. To use your balance, you must make purchases on your console.  Unfortunately, even "purchasing" free content through the web site like trials requires an alternative method of payment tied to your account, though adding an empty MasterCard / Visa gift card that is registered for online purchases will work.  Xbox One games can be purchased on the web site with your account balance.
  • Some sales are intended for Gold subscribers only, as noted within each section.
On Xbox One, Gold trials of any length work for sales and Games with Gold.  You must be an active Gold subscriber (paid or trial) to play Games with Gold purchases.
  • On Xbox 360, you must have at least a 1 month Gold subscription for sales and Games with Gold.  Neither 48 hour trials, 14 day trials nor free weekends qualify.

[*]All known sales and information on sales should make their way into the OP. Major Nelson usually updates his blog with new sales information every Tuesday.
[*]ALL OFFERS ARE SUBJECT TO CHANGE! No information within this thread can or should be construed as accurate (or still valid), therefore ...

(Waiting for the snarky unfunny BC complaints.)

I only bought NBA Jam and Bomberman so far but I highly recommend both. I was playing both last night and they are so fun! I have bomberman on older systems but it's such a great couch game. NBA Jam feels a lot like the SNES version, the faces in that game are ridiculous, lol, it feels like someone used Microsoft paint to stick them in. The gameplay is so fun that I can get past the faces.

I really do not like that I can not use existing xbox live credit to purchase games from the current sale. I have $15.xx and tried to get dead space 3 but can only use my check card. Whats the point of having xbox live credits/cash? I tried on my xbox one and the website. Any way around it? Havent had a xbox live console in awhile
you have to buy from a 360 to use credit on 360 games.

Because MS.

Cut/paste from Bloomy's OP. How does this still get asked 10 times a day.

I did a couple of the gold medals in the around the world mode or whatever it is called and holy shit I almost smashed my controller to pieces. The Minnesota one with 1 quarter, live ball, fast shot clock when your CPU partner refuses to get under the basket and the opposing team reels off 10 points in a row is one of the cheapest things I've ever experienced in gaming. Other than that NBA Jam has been great hah.

I bought a few BC games that I already own the physical copies for simply for the convienence of having them on my HD ready to go. Blue Dragon was one of them as you had to switch discs with that game as well. That was a pretty massive game (20 GB) given that it was an early 360 title. Also picked up a few misc titles I didn't have. I sold my physical copy of Lego Star Wars, which was just released into Games for Gold, and got over $9 bucks for it from Amazon. So that in itself paid for Blue Dragon and a few more of my purchases. Gotta love that. Usually your lucky if you can get $2-$3 for 360 games from Amazon. Not sure why the physical copy of Lego Star Wars was valued so much higher, especially when it was already known it was coming to GFG.

My biggest problem at this point given how many games I buy on a regular basis, plus all the free games we get from GFG and the significant increase in free to play games we have seen come to consoles is storage. I purchased a 6TB Lacie drive when I first purchased my Xbox One thinking that would last me a very long time and I am already down to my last TB and I still have at least 30+ retail games that I havent even installed yet and LOADS of BC retail titles that I havent installed yet. Looks like I am going to have to buy another large hard drive and I'll just have to switch which one I am using when booting up my Xbox One depending on what games I want to play.

Cut/paste from Bloomy's OP. How does this still get asked 10 times a day.
To be fair, that paragraph isn't entirely clear:

To use your balance, you must make purchases on your console.
It should be clarified that you need to use an actual 360 console, otherwise people might think they can use an XB1. Something like this would make it clearer:

"To use your Microsoft account balance for XBox 360 digital games, you must make purchases on your XBox 360 console (not on your XBox One)."

If you haven't played Geometry Wars then that is the best $1.24 you will ever spend in gaming.

Torchlight is another great game if you like Diablo type games.

Round 1: Bought a $50 gift card and purchased:

Portal 2

Rage

Shadows of the Damned

Braid

Capcom Arcade Cabinet

Luxor 2

Encleverment Experiment

R-Type Dimensions

Midway Arcade Origins

Banjo-Tooie

Deathspank T.O.V

Unbound Saga

NIN2-JUMP

Arkanoid Live!

Picked up a $25 card for Round 2, but I have a feeling it won't be enough.

Is there a way to use you account balance on the website?
I bought ghostbusters and it charged my card with no option I saw to change it.
Don't have an Xbox at the moment
cc44b3ea34d2a08af870cc984bb85298.jpg

Bought Arkanoid or tried to, it errored out. Then it showed I bought it twice but didn't own it, spent 25 minutes on the phone with MS support and no resolution. The guy is supposed to call me back tomorrow. At least I got the other games I wanted and my account isn't locked.
I'm surpised to hear so many bad stories about customer support. I only had one issue where I bought Mafia 2, had an error message, tried again and ended up getting charged twice.

All I did was go to Live Chat through the MS website and the problem was fixed in 5 minutes. Easy breezy.

Is Geometry Wars 2 worth $5? I played the hell out of GW3 when it was free on PS+ a few years ago, but never played the second one.

Few games have aged as well as Half Life 2. The graphics show their age compared to modern stuff (esp. character models) but are still beautiful and quite cinematic, gameplay is as fluid as ever. But dang, this game came out in 2004, same year as the first Killzone and Fable. Those are also good games, but no one is championing their visuals 13 years later.
Yeah, but all the modes are in Geometry Wars 3.

R.I.P. Chris Cornell. Hadd an amazing voice, I was lucky enough to see him live a few years back.
A friend said to me; from the Mt. Rushmore of 90s alternative/grunge music (Nirvana, Pear Jam, Alice in Chains, Soundgarden, STP); Eddie Vedder is the only one left with us. That's is sad.

Interesting choices. (S;G the show was good. No clue about these.)

Hell yeah! Easy gamerscore!

It appears that most people are buying the game for the fan service. I haven't seen the movie with Melissa McCarthy, but people are calling this game the true sequel to the 1980s movies because the Melissa McCarthy movie was trash. But whomever decided to call it a "Luigi's Mansion game with Ghostbusters characters" nailed it on the head.
The retail GB game was actually considered a true canon sequel by Akroyd (also a creator and writer for the movies with Ramis) who said that he essentially considered it the third movie that would never come out. They even used some of the ideas for the third movie in the game. Sidenote, at one point Murray would only be in the third movie if his character died in the beginning of the movie and was a ghost in the rest of it.

The PKE meter thing is a pain, but mostly unnecessary for gameplay much like scanning items in Metroid Prime or any other collecting items game mechanism.

Rushmore has 4 spots...if you had to remove one of those bands, who would you give the boot to?
Tough call between Pearl Jam and Soundgarden for me. I understand Pearl Jam's significance/influence but for me they didn't hook me in like Nirvana, STP, or Alice in Chains, they grew on me. Black Hole Sun ruined Soundgarden for me so they would get the boot.

The two other times I've contacted them it's been extremely smooth, this one was a bit of a mess.

Just watched the entire Destiny 2 stream. Looks and sounds excellent.

fuck, you guys...I wasn't going to get much in the sale but you all keep convincing me to get more games.

These are the questions that keep me up at night.

OK, no NBA Jam for me.

Lurkers don't read the OP?

But it's mentioned every page, too. Another thread regular told me about it a few days back and I wasn't even asking, for God's sake. You have to actually try to not already know this stuff lol.

Rushmore has 4 spots...if you had to remove one of those bands, who would you give the boot to?
Bye STP. I don't care if you like them or not, Nirvana and Pearl Jam have to stay on for importance alone. The other three could really be debated.

For Round 2, I applied the $25 giftcard to the $11 I previously had and picked up:

Dead Space 2

Dead Space 3

Dead Space Ignition

Red Dead Redemption: Undead Nightmare Pack

Trials HD

Call of Juarez Gunslinger

Red Faction: Battlegrounds

Eat Lead

Gatling Gears

Account is down to 55 cents ...... and there's still more to consider buying.

Onward to Round 3.

Destiny 2 rundown.

-The campaign is definitely in the style of the newer expansions. They said way more cutscenes, main characters like the Vanguard trio will sometimes be with you in gameplay sections fighting by your side. I can't quite tell if it's taking on a more linear format, you have to go to each planet to find Zavala, Ikora, and Cayde-6.

-Looks like the leak about changes to Destiny 2's game design was right. Bigger explore-able areas with actual things to do, and the ability to start all actives from there instead of having to go to Orbit for everything. An actual map that shows when and where things are happening, clearly incorporating ideas that became popular with the community.

-New sub-classes. Titans get a void Captain America shield. Warlocks get a sword that can shoot flames kind of like Razelighter while also being able to fly/float. Hunters have an electric staff, really didn't look functionally very different from the current Bladedancer.

-The way weapons are categorized are different. They have different slots like power weapon or kinetic weapon. I'm really not clear what this means, will have to see some more explanation. New kinds of weapons were shown, grenade launcher, Gatling gun, smaller SMG looking things. I didn't notice many returning guns, only Cayde using his gun.

-In game clan support and rewards.

-ALL multiplayer modes are now 4v4, so a pretty big change there.

-A compromise on the no matchmaking philosopgy for the hard stuff like Raids in Destiny 1. You now can basically do an in-game LFG post based on your clan, and people can look through and find something that they will think will fit their style. Will need to see it in practice to really know if it's good or not.

-4 new areas at launch. Earth's European Dead Zone (which was cut content from the original game), Titan, Io, and a planet that seems to be outside of our solar system. 1 new raid with no details.

-PC version is not coming to Steam, will be exclusive to Blizzard's Battle.net service.

-Beta in the summer, no details given on dates, platforms, or content.

-Seems like virtually everything from 1 has been trashed, I didn't see anything returning for armor, Crucible maps are likely to be adjusted for smaller team size, the Tower seems like it's only going to be there for the opening story mission, the explore-able areas are all new.

-no mention of the game having a new engine allowing for more frequent content updates.

-"Playstation gives us money" circlejerking, no mention of what exclusives they're going to fuck us with yet.

One question at a time for that game...
Yeah I know. It looks like tons of fun

Regarding Destiny 2, any word on DLC, etc.? Will we actually get a full story with the base game this time? Is playing Destiny 1 going to be essential to enjoying the 2nd game? That trailer looks amazing by the way.

You're going to pay about $200 for the full Destiny experience when it's all said and done if you're a day one player...just like last time.

And that reveal felt more like a giant expansion for Destiny 1. Four whole planets, a 5 hour storyline, and new abilities/weapons. Here take my $100, Bungie. Thank you sir and may I have some more?

In my defense, it was clear back when it was written in the days before BC.

Playing D1 is not necessary. There is an expansion pass, but no news on DLC. Seems like they have been learning so I think the base game will have a story.

Destiny looks a lot like 1.5 than a sequel.
Yeah, I was expecting a lot more. Doesn't seem like a new game so far. Thank goodness for GCU and $10 cert, so net price will be $38 at release for this expansion.

No love for Temple of the Dog?

I never fully appreciated Pearl Jam until some quality live recordings came out. Songs that bored me to death from studio recording (Off He Goes, for example) became some of my favorites on their live albums.

Rushmore has 4 spots...if you had to remove one of those bands, who would you give the boot to?
Alice in Chains. Layne Stanley was a great singer but the songs they produced as a band all kinda sounded the same.

Also, Smashing Pumpkins would replace STP in my book. I know their sound changed a lot from the early 90s, but so did Pearl Jam's.

No word on DLC but I highly doubt the structure will change much. They were able to charge too much for every expansion and still have Silver (microtransaction currency) consistently be in the top sold items on both PSN and XBL.

But I do think we'll get a full story in the base game. Luke Smith is the guy that was in charge of Taken King and that was a HUGE improvement over vanilla Destiny in almost all fronts. He's in charge of the same kind of stuff on Destiny 2.

Regarding Destiny 2, any word on DLC, etc.? Will we actually get a full story with the base game this time? Is playing Destiny 1 going to be essential to enjoying the 2nd game? That trailer looks amazing by the way.
I don't know if essential is quite the right word but most of the shown characters are from Destiny 1, and they're referring to events that happen in 1. You'd probably be OK if you boned up with wiki, but the basic universe stuff like the various enemy factions will probably easier to understand from playing it.

Maybe get a dirt cheap base Destiny disc used to get an introduction to the universe and read/watch the expansions if you don't want to pay much. With that you won't be too far behind. The majority of lore related stuff isn't even in game and a lot of the community doesn't bother with it so you really wouldn't be that far behind them.

A lot of Destiny's enjoyment comes from just playing with people and getting loot, so you'll still have fun there.

Can you blame him? Billy is like 6'5, his head is literally in the clouds.

Also, re: Destiny 1.5... when has Bungie ever made a sequel to an existing game that felt 100% fresh and new? They make great games, but the main difference between Halo 1-3 are the platforms and budgets they were on - gameplay-wise the differences are pretty small to people who aren't huge fans.
