Please note:

  • You cannot currently buy any Xbox 360 content on xbox.com using your account balance, you can only use an active credit card or PayPal. To use your balance, you must make purchases on your console.  Unfortunately, even "purchasing" free content through the web site like trials requires an alternative method of payment tied to your account, though adding an empty MasterCard / Visa gift card that is registered for online purchases will work.  Xbox One games can be purchased on the web site with your account balance.
  • Some sales are intended for Gold subscribers only, as noted within each section.
On Xbox One, Gold trials of any length work for sales and Games with Gold.  You must be an active Gold subscriber (paid or trial) to play Games with Gold purchases.
  • On Xbox 360, you must have at least a 1 month Gold subscription for sales and Games with Gold.  Neither 48 hour trials, 14 day trials nor free weekends qualify.

[*]All known sales and information on sales should make their way into the OP. Major Nelson usually updates his blog with new sales information every Tuesday.
[*]ALL OFFERS ARE SUBJECT TO CHANGE! No information within this thread can or should be construed as accurate (or still valid), therefore ...

A friend of mine dusted off his XBox 360 and used a 14 day code I had for live.  We were able to play Gears of War 3 together but could not party chat.  I assume party chat does not work between XBox One and 360?  Does it work in any specific games or just not at tall.

I am going to try and not fall down that hole again and resist. Will check out the beta though I guess.
I'm still going to play it, but there is no way I am playing it as much as I did the first one. Destiny was the first of that type of game that I had played so it was still new to me and I was ok at the time with the grinding. Looking back now though, there were so many unnecessary hours spent. I'm going to be wiser with my time in the next one. Doing the bare minimum to get the achievements and to get my characters geared for each activity and that's it.

Party chats between 360 and XB1 should work. The game you're playing shouldn't matter. I wonder if it's because of the 14 day trial. Maybe the system doesn't consider that real Gold so prevents the party chat? Idk about that.

That would be a good month for GWG but I have all of them except AC:R, like there to at least be 2 games I don't already own...

Also be cool for Darksiders to go BC maybe 2 will as well.

I thought we already got Walking Dead S2?

I let my gold lapse last week, had the $1 for a month on the dash this morning.

I vote for Lococycle.
Good call. I thought for sure that one would be on there months or years ago. It's also hard to believe that game hasn't been on sale for dirt cheap, either.

But the true running joke has to go to AC:Unity doesn't it? It's been as low as 99 cents on CDKeys and has such a tarnished rep, that seems ripe for a running GWG joke.

Yeah for like a year I think I barely played anything else. I would get up most mornings before work and get the Daily in and if my friend was on maybe run the Weekly and maybe the Nightfall depending on how hard it was. Then wait for Friday and Xur to disappoint. Rinse and repeat. I finally quit cold turkey. It was a lot of fun for a while but then was more like a chore. I own Taken King and only played the first DLC. I was horrible at the platforming in the raid (at least the original one) and didn't bother with the Raid for the most part. Still found plenty of things to waste time on. Was easier though I guess then as there wasn't much decent on PS4 near the console launch. Way too much back log and other games I am looking forward to.

Shiness: The Lightning Kingdom releases 4/18 on XB1. Will be $29.99. Wasn't on my radar until now, looks like a great action RPG. Check it at the trailer.

https://youtu.be/ps5Ah9guXmE
The trailer has a nice style and seems worth keeping an eye on but after Earthlock I'm not buying in to an stylish indie budget RPG trailer with so little substance (especially from a publisher with such a poor track record).

In other news, anyone else enjoy playing their games on the easy setting? I seem to enjoy the stories in the games I've been playing more than the actual gaming itself. I don't know if it's a switch that has flipped since I've gotten older. It's either that, or I just am not having as much fun gaming alone as when I lived around folks I grew up playing with my entire life.
I can't even remember the last time I played on Easy. I try to play a lot of games but want to take my time with each one as much as possible so the harder difficulty usually helps with that. You really get to know what does and doesn't work well in a games combat system so I usually feel like I understand a game after finishing it. Generally you get a bit more Gamerscore too.

Generally I start at one difficulty under the hardest, unless there are a lot of options. In that case I go for whatever sounds hard but without ridiculous additions like say, constantly respawning enemies in the old Doom games.

Hoping that GWG is legit. I already have Darksiders but I'd welcome it to BC, and yeah, I've wanted to play Ryse but couldn't ever bring myself to spend money on it.

Not sure what to say about Gamefly other than no way I would pay full price. Got in on the $1/month restart deal. Selection is hard to come by, as always. Everything you would want is unavailable. Fast Return is anything but. I live 45 miles from the Tampa dist center. On Monday morning, I mailed back a game and also a first class package to California. The first class package arrived 3000+ miles away in California in 48 hours ... 72 hours later and still no sign of the Gamefly return 45 miles away. And this has been more often my experience with Gamefly than not. Granted, it could be as much a reflection of USPS as it is Gamefly. Seems like they just take forever to process returns - b/c I generally have no problem with USPS being timely.
The Tampa dist center closed.

The tank controls were really bad in the originals, 4 seemed like a big step up in comparison. I don't think they were technically tank controls though in 4
They still are, tank controls mean you move and turn only with the left stick or d-pad. Resident Evil kept this set up through 6, though 6 itself was slightly modified as you can run backwards instead of walking in reverse. The Revelations games allowed you to side-step for the first time, meaning no tank controls, and since 7 was in first-person it didn't really make sense there.

I've always preferred the tank controls. They definitely are the best choice for the classic style games with fixed camera angles. The few times the option has been there for traditional movement has solidified my opinion there. (REmake HD, 0 HD, RE2 N64, DMC1) If you tried methods both and don't see why I guess they aren't for you though. With the over-the-shoulder games I've always been fine because the games were designed around them. Stop, aim for weakness, and shoot. This wasn't the case in 6, but they added enough other options that it still works, though the controls do take longer to figure out well.

Unless something changed, Gold trials didn't usually let you do some of the Gold exclusive stuff on 360, like party chat. You should be able to use game chat though. When someone is on 360 with actual Gold, you can be in a 360 party with them as long as you are playing a 360 game. You can't directly have them in an Xbox One party.

Ryse got a lot of heat but I loved it. I had a good time with it and played quite a bit of the multiplayer. I think I paid 10-15 for it and definitely got my monies worth. It had a decent enough story to it. It's a hack and slash so it can get repetitive. The levels were different enough to break it up a little.

I don't have time to struggle, or get good at it, in games. If there is no achievement tied to difficulty then I play my games in the easiest mode possible. Achievement hunter = no shame

If it was Austria wouldn't the ratings for the games have PEGI ratings not ESRB?

Ryse is very likely. They gave it away for free a few years back via a promo if you subscribed to Gold via some ad on the Xbox One dashboard. They like to give away the same games they once gave away via other promos.

It's true!
Was going to jump on the $1 Gamefly renewal deal with TWD S2 as one of my games. Guess I'll have to find a replacement. Totally fine by me though. Already played both 360 games (both good). Not gonna comment on Ryse. Lol.

So basically stop buying Telltale The Walking Dead games.
That's my philosophy with Assassin's Creed games and MS published titles.

I think it'll be fine as a GWG but from what I've heard the campaign was extremely short and the combat looked too simple for my tastes, compounded by the fact that it didn't look like they changed much from the obviously simple Kinect days. I guess we'll see when I actually play it.

Ryse is a lot of fun. I have all the predicted games but would gladly welcome Darksiders 1 bc.

Any recommendations for Dangerous Golf? I'm not a golf fan but it looks pretty entertaining. For 20-30 minutes, at least.

April GwG picture from official Australian Xbox One facebook shows Ryse, walking dead S2, darksiders 1 x360, and AC revelations being next month's included games. I wonder if this is real or not. Ryse has been the most wished for X1 game for a long while, especially after Sunset Overdrive was released last year as GwG. It's almost a running joke now, which makes me question its validity.
Ryse possibly coming to GwG
In Phil we trust!

Revelations and Rogue are the only main Assassin's Creed games I haven't finished. Maybe I'll finally get around to it with BC.

I have a sneaking suspicion that reviewers do this all the time. I'm sorry, that's not experiencing the whole game!

I am with you 1000%. Between work, wife, kids, etc, I welcome games that have an easy setting. I guess I've mellowed and view gaming as something to relax to and not get mad and angry at. And I give exactly zero fucks about achievements so I don't have that hangup. Hell, I finish about 1 in every 25 games started as it is. My backlog needs me to not be challenged too much.

I've only played a few games on easy...one in particular was Alpha Protocol, as I heard the combat was so-so and though you were allowed to spec your character however you want, you'd have a bitch of a time with some bosses if you didn't do it a certain way. So I said eff it and played on easy. Wise decision and I really enjoyed the game...one of my favs of last-gen.

Which game will ryse to the occasion and become the new GwG running joke?

Quantum Break?

*never buy telltale and wait for gwg

has been my strategy, seems to be working for me
If you only care about TWD, sure. (And I believe The Wolf Among Us...I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong.)

That's funny. Just started playing Ryse two days ago and I'm digging it. No clue why it got all the launch day hate 4+ years ago. I'll gladly take this freebie though. People should be pleasantly surprised if they give this game a chance and play it. Free is free, I'll take it

It was a good game, but not what you want for a launch title that is supposed to make people jump at the chance to buy an expensive new system. If it had come out a year or two later, it would have been judged much more fairly. There wasn't much to play on X1 and people took it out on Ryse.

Good line up even if I have all of them.

Ryse - had since day 1
TWD S2 - PS+, but will be nice to have on X1
Darksiders - got the remaster for $4.99 with the $15 preorder bonus via the Microsoft website
Revelations - Got as part of the Ezio Collection with that $16.xx Cartwheel deal earlier this year

Still, four well known games is impressive.

I've had Ryse for a long time, but only because I found the Day One Edition at Target well after launch (for full price though) and I couldn't resist owning that art work. I've barely put any time into it.

Capcom just posted this on their Dead Rising Facebook, and I think it's less effective than they thought. Image spoilered below for huge size. For one, the game finally came out on Steam on the 14th. That means the game sold less than a million between Xbox and Windows 10 Store in three months. Second, this highlights a few things about the gameplay.

-The average of 4.5 deaths per player confirms the assessment many had of it being piss easy.

-The average of 8,700 zombie kills is maybe one playthrough of the story, meaning most players aren't dicking around or continuing to play once finished. I think it's safe to assume this also includes multiplayer kills, which says it's not being played much either.

-The average of 4 photos per player means no one cares about the feature, which is one of the few real points they had when trying to say the were taking the series "back to the roots"

If nothing else I think it shows this attempt to sell to a wider audience backfired, as most (all?) of Capcom's past misguided attempts with other franchises. It sounds like a flop to me, they did put out projections last October for it to sell 2,000,000 at launch.

Pretty good GWG announcement for me, don't have any of those but decent interest in 3/4. Also an old GWG (darksiders 2) gets BC. Everyone should be 3 for 3 today in that regard.

.

Destiny 2 is rumored for 9/8. With an exclusive beta on PS4 this summer.
The Beta isn't exclusive to :ps4: but it is coming early to :ps4:. This probably also means that there will be exclusive content for :ps4:. Hopefully, it will be relatively minor stuff like D1 had.

I already own Darksiders but it's been in my backlog for over a year, so its nice to be able to play it on my One now. Also hyped for AC Revelations, the MP community should get a nice boost now.

Ryse is still beautiful, probably the best looking game this gen. No bullshit. It's up near the top at the very least.
