Please note:

  • You cannot currently buy any Xbox 360 content on xbox.com using your account balance, you can only use an active credit card or PayPal. To use your balance, you must make purchases on your console.  Unfortunately, even "purchasing" free content through the web site like trials requires an alternative method of payment tied to your account, though adding an empty MasterCard / Visa gift card that is registered for online purchases will work.  Xbox One games can be purchased on the web site with your account balance.
  • Some sales are intended for Gold subscribers only, as noted within each section.
On Xbox One, Gold trials of any length work for sales and Games with Gold.  You must be an active Gold subscriber (paid or trial) to play Games with Gold purchases.
  • On Xbox 360, you must have at least a 1 month Gold subscription for sales and Games with Gold.  Neither 48 hour trials, 14 day trials nor free weekends qualify.

[*]All known sales and information on sales should make their way into the OP. Major Nelson usually updates his blog with new sales information every Tuesday.
[*]ALL OFFERS ARE SUBJECT TO CHANGE! No information within this thread can or should be construed as accurate (or still valid), therefore ...

Never seen Star Wars. Do I go with the official Bluerays or download the "Despecialized Edition" (or anything similar)?

#Halo
Definitely go for the despecialized Edition if you have the means. I have the 2004 DVDs that came with a "bonus" disc with the theatrical version, but that's the last official release and they've gone past $50 each on eBay now. It's easy enough to play on Xbox now, either throw them on a portable HDD or flash drive, or set up Plex and stream it directly from your PC.

AcidChalk has a raging boner right now.

My VUDU account has 538 titles in it, but according to filmaf.com, my physical collection is 1325 titles over 1918 discs.

My wife hates it, but my friends love it. The guy at work I watch movies with during our lunch hour calls it "the sickness." I started collecting DVDs in college around my junior year in 2002 back when a used DVD at $8 to $10 was a steal.
My digital catalog for films has grown slowly so even though I have 720 blu rays I think I'm under 200 digital. I had an absolutely massive collection of VHS and largely skipped dvd.

Should say that as a freebie, Harms Way is not a bad little racer.

Better than other freebies like Yaris at least.

Hard Corps is pretty good. The achievements are hard though.

I can't believe how many movies you guys have actually bought. I stopped buying more than two or three movies a year like 6 or 7 years back. With streaming and the internet I only buy stuff that I really like to get the best quality and maybe bonus features.

I have a couple grand in my home theater speakers, I'm not dealing with compressed audio.

Actually would like to pick up Hard Corps and Bullet Soul now that they are BC, but doubt we'll see a decent sale on them anytime soon.

You can replace Superman Returns with MoS.

Creepy stalker Superman who fights an island at the end. I left the theater in bewilderment that I actually paid money to watch that dreck.
To be fair when you have x-ray vision and super hearing, it's impossible not to be creepy or have stalker tendencies especially when that's only means of saving people, And I thought Man of Steel was gosh darn awful compared to Superman Returns which was just bad. Superman Returns got the feel of things just right, but in terms of writing and character motivation and development it just made no sense. While Man of Steel just, it wasn't Superman at all. It was just daddy issues with super powers.

I very, very, very rarely buy movies at full price. I think the last time I bought a full price movie was Thor, simply because it had been out for months without going on sale and it was the last thing I needed to see before going to see the Avengers. I usually pay $4 to $5 per bluray ($1 per DVD) at local pawn shops and stock up on the good, cheap blus during Black Friday every year. Over 15 years, I may have invested a total of $10K in my collection. That seems like a lot, but it's roughly $660 ish per year split evenly. That's not bad for a major hobby.

Within the last few years, my physical buying has slowed way down and I've spent more on UV copies, since I can easily share that collection with my friends and family and titles are even cheaper (if you're smart) than what I was paying for physical releases. Plus, since I let my friends use spots on my VUDU account, they will volunteer their codes to me from their collections so I can trade/sell them in the forums here on CAG and they get to watch newer movies I acquire. It's a vicious cycle. Sickness indeed.

Wow 5 BC games in 1 day, I think I have a completion on Harms Way, I think it's like a 1 hour completion.

Happy to see the BC program continuing on!!

Wait... Harms Way has a Doritos logo on it. Lol, what is that game.
Doritos had some contest for $50,000 for a game idea. Doritos Crash Course won.

http://www.fritolay.com/company/media/fans-select-doritos-crash-course-as-winner-of-doritos-unlock-xbox-challenge

https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/store/tv/unlock-xbox/8d6kgwzl6b9c

Harms Way was free for a long time so most people should own it.

Of course Bullet Soul is back to it's original MSRP after going BC. I probably would have grabbed it when it was $5 or $6.
Both games are still free and now both are BC.

Watch the first Matrix, forget there ever were sequels.

Also The Incredibles.

Don't ever, ever watch the Star Wars movies in chronological order. That's just gonna ruin an entire franchise for you.

The Long Dark will FINALLY come out of the Game Preview program on 8/1.

Achievements (obviously) and the long-in-development Story Mode will be included.

Yes, either version is worth it. I got the Gold one at launch - there is a ton of content/stuff to do whether gold or not.

Movie talk:

For someone who has seen maybe 15 movies EVER (which is fucking mind-blowing, honestly), I think the best course of action is the try-and-dive strategy, invented just now by yours truly.

Instead of saying "I'm going to watch all three Nolan Batman films," try one of the more well-regarded films by a specific director or in a certain genre. If you dig it, dive in and check out a bunch more like it. I think that's more personally satisfying.

For some suggestions- you need to see Citizen Kane. People say it's overrated, but watch it. It's amazing how influential that film was on just about every major filmmaker after it was released.

See at least one movie directed by Scorsese and Kubrick. I would say two for each, especially for Kubrick because he handled a wide variety of genres even though a lot of his signatures carried over between films. You really can't go wrong with either guy, just find a plot that interests you. I mean, I'd avoid Eyes Wide Shut, but other than that, have at it.

Watch a Coen brothers film. I'd say O Brother, Where Art Thou? but again, you can't go wrong here, really.

Check out some of the different subgenres. If you haven't seen a modern superhero film, watch Iron Man. If you dig it, you'll have a lot of fun watching the other dozen or so Avengers films and you'll be ready to flip the fuck out with the rest of us for Infinity War. For a different vibe, the Nolan Batman films are great, as Blinknot said.

There aren't a lot of horror movies on this list. I'm a fan of 80s slasher flicks, and if you haven't seen A Nightmare on Elm St., you should. Watch The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly or another Eastwood spaghetti Western. And just for me, watch Bloodsport. No, it's not "good," but at the same time, it's so damn good. Some sci-fi. Alien and Aliens for a horror vibe, Moon for a psychological vibe. 2001: A Space Odyssey because you need to, but don't feel bad if you fast forward a bit. Interstellar because it's awesome. Jeez, watch a Pixar film if you haven't! I'd recommend Up, but you can't seriously not have seen Toy Story, at the same time...gah, too many options!

What movies have you watched that you can recall off the top of your head? Which ones did you like? Why haven't you seen more of them? (Forgive me if you already answered that last one, but I feel like I need to understand this phenomenon, lol).

I think I've told my feelings on my Far Cry 3 experience. Everything I read made it sound amazing... like an Assassin's Creed in the jungle with guns. However, what really happened was me standing on a rock with no bullet surrounded by Komodo dragons hissing at me while eating the corpses I left lying around. I couldn't move. So I never went back.

Also, I got bit by a snake climbing the first radio tower just because I wasn't looking down while I was walking. I want to really get into that game... I just hate all of the deadly, inconvenient wildlife at every step. I liked the way the newer Tomb Raider games handled it.
Jeez, that fucking snake. I have a bigtime snake phobia and I'm surprised I kept playing after that, lol. But actually, the animals I dreaded the most in that game were the albino crocodiles. The first time I was swimming across a stream and got latched onto and rolled around I about crapped my pants. Better jump scare than most horror games offer.

Anyway, by the end of the game my character was most definitely addicted to whatever that chemical was that you'd inject so you could detect wildlife. When running through off-road areas, I'd just habitually hit the button so I'd know where all the nasty creatures were. I was bummed that they brought snakes back for Far Cry 4, by the way.

Watch the first Matrix, forget there ever were sequels.

Also The Incredibles.

Don't ever, ever watch the Star Wars movies in chronological order. That's just gonna ruin an entire franchise for you.
I liked the Matrix sequels. As good as the original? Of course not, but not terrible. And I agree on Star Wars; I should have mentioned in my original post that he should watch them IV-V-VI then prequels. I still disagree with those who say he should hunt down the unaltered versions, though. Those changes won't make a bit of difference to someone who's completely new to the franchise.

CoD: Black Ops III: Zombies Chronicles has been rated for XB1.

My only guess is this is a standalone version of the "Nightmares" zombie campaign that unlocks after beating BOIII.

This has been officially revealed. It is a bundle of remastered zombie maps. Out 5/16 on PS4 first. Expected XB1 release of 6/16. Guessing digital-only.

Any price on the Zombie Bundle?

I was just reading that g2a thread on the XboxOne subreddit, and found my new favorite quote:

"Probably because angry gamers are crazier than ISIS at a gay pig roast."

Hope there's another sale before then. Forgot to pick it up during the spring sale.

I guess that's what that countdown page was for.

No mob of the dead I'm not interested. Seems pointless for X1 players who can play ALL the zombie maps/modes if they have the respective games and dlc. Otherwise, depending on the price, it's a good deal if you don't have the older games but have BO3. My bet is $19.99 download and $29.99 for physical ("Limited Edition Camouflage Tin Can")

Surprising no Lego Star Wars III. But... several today:

Bullet Soul

Bullet Soul -Infinite Burst-

Hard Corps: Uprising

Harms Way

Band of Bugs

Wait... Harms Way has a Doritos logo on it. Lol, what is that game.
They could still be working on making Lego Star Wars the Complete Saga bc since it isn't GwG until 05/16. This also gives all the other Lego games a good chance to eventually becomes bc.

They are both free but don't you need gold to play DCC?

If it has a new achievement list then I'll probably grab it whenever it hits $10 on sale.

I just installed Harm's Way, opened it, hit quick play and was put into a lobby, my final achievement popped, and I closed and deleted it.

Thanks BC program for helping me finish that game!

the map list for chronicles isn't as good as I was expecting, no die rise or buried so I just still with my BC zombie games
Exactly my thoughts. I was expecting something much better, but I guess they're still wanting to make money off of Black Ops III zombies and some of the mor epopular maps

Amateur. My VUDU account is at 941, not counting the shelves and shelves of DVDs and Blus I still own.
Oh sorry, my Vudu collection didn't see your Vudu collection when it got stepped on. ;)

Wait. In your life, you have only seen about 15 or 20 movies. With all due respect, are you only a toddler? What movies have you seen?

Here are ten you need to watch before you die, aside from Star Wars.

Drive <--- my favorite movie ever made

Scarface <--- GTA is founded upon cues from this

American Psycho <--- Bale is the greatest actor in all of the land

Batman Begins <--- watch this

Batman: The Dark Knight <---- then this

Batman: The Dark Knight Rises <--- and then this

Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World <--- basically a video game

Lion <--- recent movie, excellent true story

Aliens <--- fack you if you don't know what this is

Saving Private Ryan <--- you love call of duty, watch this. vin diesel is even in it.
The number would be higher if I counted the movies that made me get asleep. But I've seen one of those (Batman The Dark Knight) so I guess that's a yay for me. =P~

Watching them in chronological order will spoil a couple big things in the original trilogy (which you find out at the same time as a character in the story), though even without having seen them, you may be aware of them already. One method is watching Star Wars, then Empire, then about half to 2/3 of Jedi to a point where one character gives a bit of backstory about his past relationship with another. After that scene, you can watch the prequels as some extended exposition. Once the prequels are done, you finish Return of the Jedi. The prequels still spoil one thing about the rest of Jedi that is only hinted at, but it's nothing compared to what's spoiled by watching in episode order blind. After Jedi is The Force Awakens. I don't recall if there were any major spoilers watching Rogue One before the original film.
I meant chronological by release. I'm downloading the Despecialized ones, but I'll probably get the Blueray set too if I like them because it looked cool.

About that Zombie Chronicles news: as much as I love that gamemode, I don't think I'd spend more money on them considering I have all DLCs for all three Black Ops games + World at War, and they're all on X1 now.

Also, see these movies:

Ghostbusters (original)

Kung Fu Hustle

And for something less serious:

Ace Ventura:  Pet Detective

Ace Ventura:  When Nature Calls (I have never laughed so hard in my life)

There's Something about Mary (second hardest I've ever laughed)

forza 5 for $10 seems good.  Why oh why can't they just make actual COMPLETE final disc versions of forza that eventually hit $20 like all games used to in the past?  I've held off on so many forza because of that.

Can't believe no one has pounced on this supposed typo.
Phone auto-correct is amazing sometimes.

I've been working on my collection for a little over a decade. My current commute to work includes 2 hours a day on a train, so I've been able to keep up with it. My backlog, on the other-hand, is getting neglected.

It's not bad when put that way, I guess I wasn't applying the CAG philosophy to my thoughts on movie collecting. I definitely get it, I do have way too many anime DVDs from about 10 years ago, probably around 200. I think my main thing is that I just only really have only had enough money for my main hobby for the past few years.

I get your reasoning on the digital side, but as is I just don't ever see myself paying to "own" digital copies of video. Maybe if the laws in the US change I guess. Though with Nyaa.se dying this week, due to the owner getting scared due to a recent Swedish ruling, it does highlight the risk. The way you describe using your digital collection is a benefit in my eyes, though I'd be worried about something happening to Vudu or licensing or whatever.

I'm all for supporting the creators but if I'm doing so, it'll be through a physical copy.

I meant chronological by release. I'm downloading the Despecialized ones, but I'll probably get the Blueray set too if I like them because it looked cool.
The problem with the current Bluray is that they only have the updated versions. The reason those despecialized edits were made is that the vast majority of the changes are worse either in quality, like CGI effects added that now look dated when the scenes were generally fine, or they simply drag the entire movie down, like a certain musical number added to RotJ.

These versions came out pretty close to the purchase by Disney, so I guess they just don't want to over saturate the market, but they have to know they will make a killing off of official Blurays of the original trilogy.

Movies no one mentioned (but should have):

Wayne's World

Se7en

Starship Troopers

The Big Lebowski

KickAss

Backlogs: They're not just for games [anymore].

Right now I'm watching Rogue One for the first time and downloading The Force Unleashed 2.

No clue why this scene was so hilarious to me

this is probably a dumb question.  if I were to buy that forza 6/forza horizon 3 bundle, can I also play forza horizon 3 on PC?

Thanks in advance for the help!
