Please note:

  • You cannot currently buy any Xbox 360 content on xbox.com using your account balance, you can only use an active credit card or PayPal. To use your balance, you must make purchases on your console.  Unfortunately, even "purchasing" free content through the web site like trials requires an alternative method of payment tied to your account, though adding an empty MasterCard / Visa gift card that is registered for online purchases will work.  Xbox One games can be purchased on the web site with your account balance.
  • Some sales are intended for Gold subscribers only, as noted within each section.
On Xbox One, Gold trials of any length work for sales and Games with Gold.  You must be an active Gold subscriber (paid or trial) to play Games with Gold purchases.
  • On Xbox 360, you must have at least a 1 month Gold subscription for sales and Games with Gold.  Neither 48 hour trials, 14 day trials nor free weekends qualify.

[*]All known sales and information on sales should make their way into the OP. Major Nelson usually updates his blog with new sales information every Tuesday.
[*]ALL OFFERS ARE SUBJECT TO CHANGE! No information within this thread can or should be construed as accurate (or still valid), therefore ...

Ahhh shit we got a celebrity in the house (not being sarcastic).Have you written any other achievement guides by chance?
I always think about writing a guide for the more obscure games that don't have one. Then I worry that some other schmuck will have the same idea and beat me to it. Then I go get a beer and read this thread instead of doing something constructive.

Wait, people are really complaining that a brick breaker game makes you break all the bricks and doesn't break the last brick for you?
Clearly we're not the only ones who have issues with this, if developers have addressed the problem in their own games. You can't precisely aim the ball in games like this, and it gets a little obnoxious when it bounces around the playfield missing the last onscreen target... for minutes at a time. Yeah, I'd much rather have a quick pass to the next stage than fruitlessly bat a ball at an impossible to reach brick for five agonizing minutes.

Sooo...ended up buying more than I thought I would in this sale...

Dead Space 2 & 3
Dead Space Ignition
Alan Wake's American Nightmare
Mars War Logs
Mass Effect
Puzzle Quest 2
Rage

Might not seem like a lot, but my intent was to Only buy Dead Space 2 & 3.

Clearly Taito hasn't been keeping up with the times. Capcom's Block Block opens an exit somewhere on the screen if you take too long, giving you a way out if you can't reach the last block. Breakquest drops a power up (typically some kind of weapon) if you're having trouble hitting the last block. Arkanoid Live! gives you... nothing. Ugh. Apparently my time isn't worth much to Taito/Square.
Interesting, I didn't know about the other games. Apparently Arkanoid Live is hardcore... like the "Dark Souls" of Breakout. Although, it did originally come out in 1986 but this also has a few other added gameplay features to it so yeah it would have been a nice toggle option at least to have something drop as a powerup or zap that last brick.

I Want to agree, but Billy Corgan's ego doesn't need to be inflated any more than it has been for the past few decades.
None of those bands have put out albums that are as near perfect as Siamese Dream and/or Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness. My only mark on the latter is that 1979 song, I didn't like it at the beginning and for sure didn't like it after it was played out.

Temple of the Dog = Pearl Jam + Soundgarden so that would be a way of cheating and getting both bands on Mt. Rushmore.

STP is the George Washington of grunge music, the song Plush is grunge
STP was half a glam band from San Diego, they weren't even from Seattle

Someone else mentioned they couldn't get into Half Life and I'm right there with you. Really starting to regret that $5...
Well $5 for that package that includes Portal not sure I can buy the complaining on that. That said I do think Half Life 2 starts a lot slower than it should, having gone back to it a couple times getting out of the city stays too long for it's welcome

Round 3 took $56 from me as I purchased:

Jurassic Park

Ghostbusters

Bejeweled 2

Lumines Live

Anomaly Warzone Earth

Aqua

Assault Heroes 2

Centipede & Millipede

Crystal Quest

Earthworm Jim

Guwange

Haunted House

Ikaruga

Insanely Twisted Shadow Planet

Jetpac Refuelled

Lazy Raiders

Missile Command

Mutant Storm Empire

Putty Squad

Small Arms

Triggerheart Exelica

Kameo

Strania

Overall, I bought 46 games for $142. My wallet can rest now.

That's a damn good haul. The sad part is that I had only spent the $28 in Bing credit that I had on my account until this point, and I bought a $50 card from GameStop tonight. I'm hoping that will be enough for me to buy all the Live Arcade games that I might want.

Some of these games haven't sold a single copy in so long probably (small arms for example) and now they're suddenly getting a boom in sales
Maybe game publishers will get their heads out of their asses and give us decent weekly sales now that they see that obscure 360 games will sell if you put them on sale. But, probably not. I'm expecting too much.

Guess you're right. Can't complain about playing Portal again :D

I Liked (hell, even loved) Smashing Pumpkins and can say I loved those albums as well. Adore I grew to appreciate over time for them trying something new, eventhough it is jarring still in how far they went with the electronic sound and Machina (and Machina II/Friends and Enemies of Modern Music) I thought was their last great album and I would personally put in their top albums. It was from there on out when he fired Iha and every interview more than ready to trash his original band mates and take credit for everything that it's hard to listen to any Pumpkins album without a bit of shame knowing where it all went. Plus Corgan becoming an Alex Jones sympathizer does not help matters at all as an adult.

Oh hell, now I'm wanting Shadow Warrior 2. Spent a good amount (afraid to add it up) on the BC sale.

$35 for both games isn't too shabby through. I have the first one on PS4 but wouldn't mind it on X1 as well.

Urghhh...the urge is strong with this one.

The 2012 album is worth a listen. The titlr track Oceania is really good, as is the 2nd half of the album.

Last album I listened to was Zeitgeist, it wasn't bad, but it kinda felt...I don't know, kinda empty? I Think I remember hearing a bit of their single from I think Teacup and Kaleidoscopes (?) and it wasn't anything really memorable. I Don't know, I'm almost kinda fine just living in the past with them and that's enough. They're basically The Simpsons of music to me.

Picked up NBA Jam On Fire Edition. Highly recommend it, even if you played the original.

Sent from my SM-G530T using Tapatalk
Yup. Bought it awhile back and I wanted to get all the characters/modes/etc. right away instead of me unlocking it, so I bought the Time Is Money pack which unlocks all that stuff for like $5, wish there was a sale for that DLC. And there's still things you need to unlock by beating certain teams but you have to choose more skillful players to defeat harder players. I've been using The Democrats which are Obama and Bill Clinton lol.

If any of you haven't played Puzzle Quest or Puzzle Quest 2, I highly, highly recommend the purchases. I spent 100+ hours playing the first game on the DS, and it holds up pretty well to this day. I'm not a fan of most "casual" games in the match-3 genre, but this one is pretty fantastic, with plenty of optional, but entertaining extras. Probably one of the most successful hybrid genre games I've played. PQ : Galactrix was an interesting effort set in a sci-fi setting, but the core matching game was a bit too confusing to make it as addicting.

Also, for those of you who didn't pick up Monkey Island 1 and/or 2 while they were GWG, the writing and humor in these two games are absolutely top notch. It's hard to describe the charm of these two games, but even if you play them with an FAQ / walkthrough, maybe especially if you play them with an FAQ / walkthrough, since some of the puzzles are a bit brutal, they're such a treat and easily worth the asking price(s).

How come I'm not able to use my xbox credit to buy these BC games?  It keeps wanting to use my credit card?

Just kidding.  Seriously though, it's pretty unfathomable why Microsoft doesn't fix this.  $522 billion in market cap and gross profit of about 10% of that; you'd think they could find an H1B or two to sort that out.  And how about a digital shopping cart like gamegirlpocket mentioned?  Or a way to compare games on sale vs games owned at a glance?  Maybe the problem is that they're just too profitable to care about selling more.

Anyway, pretty incredible sale this week - MANY titles I haven't even heard of.  After looking through the entire list (thanks again Bloomy for your tireless efforts on our behalf) my stats are as follows:
   81 owned digitally
   58 owned on disk
     4 owned on secondary account
   14 games previously completed
 131 for possible purchase

For the games that I own digitally that weren't free through GwG, I paid $196.58 over the years, while the current sale prices total $154.34.

For the games that I own on disk that I have prices for, I paid $447.67 and to buy them all today digitally would be $351.19.

Overall, the discounts for waiting ages for this sale weren't as high as I thought they would be.  Some games I definitely paid more for (Orange Box for $20) while for others my CAG shopping paid off (Black Ops for $4).

I still need to sort out what I want to buy during this sale, but there will be quite a few I think.  If anything, there's almost TOO MUCH on sale (never thought I'd say that.)  It's going to take hours to read reviews and follow up on those 131 'possible' items.  Microsoft would have likely generated more revenue by spreading this sale out over three or four weeks, but I guess we do need to get back to Forza, Prototype, and Farming Simulator 15 sales.

How come I'm not able to use my xbox credit to buy these BC games?
No, seriously. You would think the time for them to get this right would be before the huge-ass sale they were planning. Prices aside, how many people out there do you think tried to buy a bunch of stuff with credit, then just said "fuck it" after finding out they would have to take money out of pocket? Way to lose publishers a bunch of no-brainer sales, MS.

Especially since, as a "backwards compatibility" sale, they're targeting purchasers on the One, who CANNOT use their credit on these games..

Yeah, Gripshift builds on you. Initially I was like what you have to play each level over and over again but it didn't take long for me to initiate that once I grabbed a good time, or got the GS logo or grabbed all the stars. The racing is pretty fun too. Def worth the asking price.

Forza Horizon 3 has four new Challenges up for the weekend. All fast and easy. For Tree Hugger Lumberjack Skills, drive around the area with the words Dry Reservoir on the map, and run over the white stumps or white fallen tree branches. There's plenty in that area and they reset after a while.

So I'm guessing you didn't think much of Zwan? I liked it very pop length songs but some good tunes, I'm not into electronic so much and Iha was playing with Billy and Jimmy Chamberlin as recently as April at some LA gigs and some underground shows in Chicago. Then again I think Billy just purchased NWA wrestling this month if that is even still a thing, real artist/rockstars are complicated as we found out yesterday.

Someone report back how Shadow Warrior 2 runs before the sale is up, watching quick looks on youtube it's out of control but no way the Xbox isn't dropping all them frames

Are Strania and Timeshift worth getting?
Strania WAS worth getting before they bumped the price from $2.50 to $6. Now it is not (unless the price is $2.50 again).

Timeshift is a ripoff at that price to begin with, so no.

Wow, Sony's got a whole day to come up with ways to counter things from MS's presser.
I don't know why MS insists on going before the masters of gaming PR spin/marketing every year.

Double post but time for a PSA.

PSA: ALL BACKWARDS COMPATIBLE GAME PURCHASES (with a few exceptions*) ARE ELIGIBLE FOR THIS MONTH'S RETRO REWARDS PROMO.

"You must spend at least $40 before tax on backwards-compatible games and/or featured 'retro' games for Xbox One and Xbox 360, and/or featured 'retro' movies and TV shows from Microsoft Movies & TV."

Most of us will easily spend $40 this week on BC crap, so you'll get an extra $4 coming back to you next month. Just something to keep in mind.

There's also a $1 bonus reward if you buy something from each decade, but the BC stuff isn't eligible for the most part so probably not worth going out of your way for.

*The exceptions are games eligible for the other XBL Rewards Promo this month (called Rebel Rewards). The games that won't count for Retro Rewards are:

Darksiders, Darksiders II, DEUS EX: HUMAN REVOLUTION, Fallout 3, Fallout: New Vegas, Far Cry 3, Far Cry 3® Blood Dragon, Hitman: Absolution, Just Cause 2, Mirror’s Edge

Also, for anyone wondering why they haven't had their MyVIP shit calculated this month or the usual deposit on the 15th, apparently MS fucked up so they delayed MyVIP calculations and this month's deposit to the 25th of the month (next week).

Thanks for posting this information. Knowing that I'm getting back $4 later this month slightly eases the pain of spending so much in such a short time.

In other news, I deleted Lost Odyssey from my 360's hard drive since it ate up 16 gb that could otherwise be filled with XBLA hidden gems. I will probably play it on Xbox One if I ever get around to it. And I've been buying 5 or 6 games from the sale every 12 hours so that M$ doesn't put the fraud alert back on my account before the sale ends.

This morning, I bought Assault Heroes 2, Commanders Attack, Gatling Gears, Madballs, Stacking, and Ticket to Ride.

If you invite 3 people to see Alien Covenant using the AtomTickets app you can get tickets for $5.

Combine that offer with a $5 off code for new members and it will be free. :)

https://slickdeals.net/f/10165156-atom-app-alien-movie-invite-3-people-and-get-any-show-for-just-5-or-free
Sounds as though it texts people with an invite so you *could* use some landlines. *hint* *hint*

(Also doesn't sound like they must buy tickets so not a big deal if you just give a heads up to people that they will get the "invite")

I bought a ton of BC games so far. How long does it take for the reward credits to show up in your account. Currently it says I've accumulated a big fat zero.

Worked perfectly. I used landlines and the code FOUNDER to get a free ticket.

Thanks!

Zeitgeist was okay but it was a little too stifling creatively. It's more like if Billy tried to write a metal album... which is cool, but not what I want in an SP record.

Oceania is way more of a proper record and has a lot of variety. The first 3-4 songs remind me of Siamese Dream / Mellon Collie, and one of the later tracks could have been a b side on Adore. Definitely worth a listen.

I can sense your urge for Wang is strong. But try to resist - cuz SW1 was like $6 or $8 a couple weeks back. SW2 will follow suit... in 2 years.

Quasar, Panopticon and then Violet Rays guitar chorus are probably the most Smashing Pumpkins style Smashing Pumpkins songs in the last decade plus or so if that makes any sense, but yeah the the album goes into some odd electronica for me on stuff like 1 diamond 1 heart.

back to games, I watched the first boss battle of The Surge I think he was fighting ED-209 from Robocop but Dark Souls style, I'm trying not to click buy
