This thread will maintain a list of all current and upcoming sales and markdowns on the Xbox Live Marketplace / Xbox Games Store for the USA.  YMMV in other regions.  If non-US sales are listed, they will be marked with their applicable region(s).

Please note:

  • You cannot currently buy any Xbox 360 content on xbox.com using your account balance, you can only use an active credit card or PayPal. To use your balance, you must make purchases on your console.  Unfortunately, even "purchasing" free content through the web site like trials requires an alternative method of payment tied to your account, though adding an empty MasterCard / Visa gift card that is registered for online purchases will work.  Xbox One games can be purchased on the web site with your account balance, but DLC cannot.
  • Some sales are intended for Gold subscribers only, as noted within each section.  This requires being a paid subscriber or within a console-activated "1 month complimentary Gold trial" account.  Neither 48 hour trials, 14 day trials nor free weekends qualify.
  • All known sales and information on sales should make their way into the OP. Major Nelson usually updates his blog with new sales information every other Tuesday.
  • ALL OFFERS ARE SUBJECT TO CHANGE! No information within this thread can or should be construed as accurate (or still valid), therefore ...
  • Always verify Xbox Live Marketplace prices before your purchase!
  • Spend wisely, have fun, and enjoy!

It's funny when there's a sale on games and I see some of you debating if you want to use up 1-3 GB of hard drive space on that game...and then reading things like Wolfenstein on xbox one has a 7.3GB day one patch.

Dark Souls would be free, come on :(

First Deadlight now DS.  Ok so they are making games free that were months ago on sale WTF and put Charlie Murder and Dust there as well.

Why did we spend money on these games in the first place?  My cheapass is raging with turdles!

What's next Blood Dragon, Brothers, Bully, Fight Night.. fuck I'm pissed

Yup, definitely irritated. Same thing happens with PS+. Makes me think to buy only physical games, as I can sell those when we're given the digital ones for free.

Only reason to really be mad is if you haven't played it yet, and if that's the case then quit buying so many games since you know GWG exists :)

I'm scared to buy any arcade games on XB1 now, it'll probably end up being free a month or two later. I picked up MAX and Halo during the buy $45 and get $5, $10, $15, or $20 back deal. I can't complain too much I guess, since I did get $15 back. It still sucks knowing that I could have gotten Powerstar Golf and Crimson Dragon instead. Maybe those will be free in July. I hope so.

Ohh we know it exists alright, but who would anticipate GWG would take such groovy turn. At first GWG were giving out so-so old titles and recently+now GWG actually not so bad. However, games like Deadlight, Dust, and now Dark Souls and Charlie Murder were all on sale months ago. Bunch of folks including myself had spent our hard earned money on these games.

Put yourself in our shoes for a moment, how would you feel?

DS feels like they ran out of budget or time so they released an incomplete game. When it got great reviews, "Yeah we intended to make the game like this so people can enjoy the story". At least 80% of your deaths will be from your attacking going through the enemy but not hitting them or failing to make a jump because your character decides not to do what you tell it to. The 2nd Dark Souls feels much easier because they fixed some of the jumping issues or made them not required (I don't remember any memorable jumps in DS2 that I had to repeat 50+ times).

I haven't played the first game on PS3 so maybe that's what happened with that game and they decided to stick with it.

It has a tutorial at the beggining, most of us just don't pay attention to it and i plead guilty of those charges. Also there is no right way to go, basicly the game is divided in two parts, besides that you can do as you please with some areas being more difficult than others but are still doable. Cheap enemy placement, i'll give you that to some degree. I didn't get to play too much videogames as a child but Ninja Gaiden for NES was pretty difficult for it's time IMO, and AFAIK the game stood out. And you just hit the spot with games difficulty nowadays, most peóple avoid it or call it super hard because with each generation we get more and more spoiled with the difficulty on games. All in all the game is pretty good,is just about learning the game even though it has a couple of really assholish moments.
The tutorial gives you the combat basics and stuff, but it doesn't tell you what the gazillion items do, where you need to go, how to get over certain fights, etc.. It's normal, in a way, but I still believe the game should be clearer in what it does. It doesn't have to be holding your hand like Fable, with its path of light showing the way to go and no penalty of relevance whatsoever for dying, but I sat down playing Dark Souls without having played Demon's Souls, without having watched proper gameplay or know anything about it. Did not use a guide, and in fact, after the prologue's boss, I was lost. I kept on going ahead and get killed by the skeletons. Finally made it through and got into a cave where I couldn't do anything, too hard. Found a way below, but again, too weak for that. Finally found the correct way after hours of playing, and by this time I realized that most fights can be won by rolling and attacking in an infinite loop, which made me progress a little more before I got bored. The insane difficulty is that, if you don't know anything about the game and don't go into it with some knowledge, a guide or something, you'll spend plenty of hours failing hard until you even start understanding the basics of the game. The prologue is easy enough, but then you're left there, out in the open, like: now play, even though you're weak, you don't know the rules, and enemies 2-hit you. Enjoy. I can take a challenge (I 1cc'd multiple bullet hell shooters, compared to those, Dark Souls is a walk in the park), but DS pretty much begs for a guide to be played. Which I didn't really care about.

Damn right, if MS is going to pull shit like that I'll be really careful with digital copies. I already sold like 6 of my hard copies and they went pretty well and when it comes to digital titles its pretty much a sitting duck in HD., pretty much a keeper.

I Paid for a majority of the GwG games and in the end who cares. They're not meant for people like us with triple digit backlogs or nearing it and majority of those games can be found for $10 or less (or MUCH less) retail. Worse comes to worse you get more nerds for achievement boosting or can trade it in. Plus if you're CAG, you probably didn't pay that much for the game in the first place so it's hardly anything to get upset over.

This. DS is a unique game and by today's standards it's unusually hard, but the hype around it makes it seem like it's perfect. Yet, not even counting graphics, there's a wonky hit detection, items/walls that react differently from time to time, choppy movements, etc.. You often die because the game doesn't work well, falling off from ledges bizarrely and getting hit by things that shouldn't have. From what I hear, DS2 is a lot better, I hope it is indeed DS1 without all the BS, because I want to enjoy DS but I got burnt out after a dozen or so hours.

This, albeit I can see why people get upset if it's a game that was on sale literally days before it became free, because had they knows this beforehand, they would have never bought it. If it's a year difference it's one thing, 10 days is another. Sort of had this with Dead Island: bought it on sale a while back, but only just tried it for like 30 mins a few weeks before it became free. There's other things I owned that I already beat to death (Saints Row 3), or stuff that I played "enough" (like Dungeon Defenders), I don't really regret those, besides, most of these were indeed bought on sale. The free games on X1 might be more annoying for people since those games were full price all the way.

I know, but I'm still upset.

Also if MS will continue to put out titles that were on sale not so long ago there would be other upset gamers beside me.

Yes these titles were pretty cheap, but now they are free and my cheapass is quivering.

Yeah patches are getting ridiculous but that's also tied with a 500 GB hard drive.

http://www.vg247.com/2014/05/14/34-million-us-gamers-play-for-22-hours-per-week-npd-report/

Some interesting tidbits in there. The most interesting I found was that NPD polled gamers and 74% prefer physical discs over digital. I know I'm one to choose the actual disc over digital, so I'm part of that majority according to the poll.

With the way paid models are for Ps3/Ps4 and the Xbone, you're basically paying to rent those "free" games. Dunno about you guys, but I like to play my games and then keep the classics(Orange Box, Dead Space, Rock Band 3, Bully, etc). Though I've 1ked/finished My Horse and Me 2, I ain't keeping/displaying that shit in my collection. Don't get me wrong, I had fun playing games like Sherlock Holmes & Quantum of Solace, but I deem those not worthy of the collection so they get traded in. Does anyone else feel that way? Like I'm getting old or something as this next generation is already here and I just don't like what's out there.......I feel like an old guy who says that today's music is crap and "back in my day, we had the best music." *grumble grumble*

I'm a collectionist. No matter what I buy, it stays it me, albeit I never bought stuff like Hannah Montana or My Horse And Me. I like achievements but I'm never going to buy a turd just for the sake of that. Due to the lack of good prices on physical around here, I usually buy digital lately, since MS is keen on giving out full-blown triple-A games for very low prices - much lower than I can find them around here on disc, at that point it's a matter of convenience. But for collecting, exposing, and even HDD issues... discs all the way.

Yeah, my co-worker/gamer friend jokes and says that I'm not a gamer anymore, I'm a collector lol Which I do agree. I don't have as much time as I used to anymore what with going back to school, wife, work, sports, owning a house and keeping it look like a million bucks, etc. Haven't even had kids yet either......But I still find time to game 10+ hours a week and I'm less inclined to go for meh games with gamerscore like Scourge and the like.

I will say, I do LOVE that MS offers digital games (arcade and retail) at huge discounts of like 90% off. That's huge and gets a collector like me, to double dip for convenience mainly

Same, I became so much of a collector lately. I got around a hundred digital games for X360 last year, which is around half of what I bought (digital or otherwise) in the 4 years before that. I didn't even touch dozens of them, but those prices... we're collectors at this point, but I'm like that with everything: I've got CDs and vinyls, sealed from like 6 years ago. Several years old books I never opened (and I intend to!). I just can't pass on certain prices, and in some moments I just buy no matter the price. MS's crazy sales make this come out even more.

Golden quite: "Back in the day,.." Trust me back in the day some things were truly amazing and current or next gen will try to re-create it or imitate it. Like they say: "New, is thoroughly forgotten old" : )

My brother is 13 and after watching Dexter Laboratory, Powerpuff Girls, Johny Bravo, Courage,.etc He says old cartoons are so much better than the shit they show today. I grew up watching mentioned cartoons so I can brag now: "back in the day, when I was growing up we had amazing cartoon shows, and today you have bunch of crap. ^grumble grumble^

I went of course a bit, when it comes to games I always preferred hard copies. However, after having issues with disc scratches I kinda liked the idea of digital copy where you have less chances of games to crash or not playing at all.

My 3 nieces(ages 7, 9 and 11) were watching old school Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory last week at my place via cable. They were totally into it and I was just waiting for them to ask for the newer, craptacular Burton/Depp version. But no, the middle aged niece asked this past weekend if I could bring over the the Wonka movie to their place. I asked which one, the newer one? She said, emphatically "NOOooooo, the older that is so much better uncle!!!" *sniff sniff* I love those kids.......

It's one less souls game I have to buy so I'm happy. Yes it was only $5 but my MS bucks are finally in single digits (from the only glitch sale I have had the pleasure of being a part of) so i want to make it count before using just a plain ol' credit card.

Would've swapped for Kingdoms of Amalur though. Sad that hasn't been sub $10 digital yet since it's been hovering at $15 physical forever.

Even though I'm 22, I like Regular Show, Adventure Time, Flapjack, Clarence, etc. I don't see why people have to compare. All generations have their awesome shows and stinkers.

So how is Super Time Force? I'll probably pick it up tomorrow if Family Video doesn't have Spiderman 2
i haven't played it yet but goddamn it looks fun! I just think it'll definitely be a xb1 GWG so it's tough holding out. I'm not the most patient person in the world. I already own the first two games we're getting and own most of all the other "arcade" titles. Guess I should try and get something for free.

That's what makes it harder, you have to figure out stuff on your own. You might finish the game 2 or 3 times and you still won't understand everything. If they gave people a guide, it would be just another action rpg. I understand though, the first time i played pre-patched i just got to the taurus demon and gave up; a couple of months later i went back and stayed. We could go on this forever, and both pointing the same argument. In the end we're just the perfect examples of why people have the game receives so much love-hate.

Dark Souls is funny. From Software has been basically making the same game since the psx era and it was mostly laughed at and heavily criticized until the public finally embraced it with Demon Souls.

I'm 27 and I have friend's in their 30's who watch those cartoons and we all enjoy them alot. One thing I greatly appreciate is that since majority of cartoon's are written by people who also grew up on them, they have a better sense of how to tell a story while giving nods and winks to people in our age demographic. I Mean, Regular Show has a fucking Sega Master System. A SEGA MASTER SYSTEM! What piece of pop culture has ever brought up the Sega Master System of anything ever? Plus nearly every show has it's own continuity that they follow instead of abunch of one off episodes that so many cartoons back in the day followed. Also Legend of Korra is fucking amazing.

really fun, to me at least. think platformer-shooter that's insanely fast, kind of relies on speed-run type runs, and then adds in a little strategy with the time-travel feature, which really is awesome and so satisfying when your fighting along many of your past selves.

Do as you will, but there are few games that let me down as hard as Spider-Man 2 did. Amazing I mean. If Family Video has the PS2 version of the original Spider-Man 2, get that instead - otherwise go with Super Time Force.

Has m$ said anything about needing Gold to play Indie Games, and if they are changing that? I kind of doubt it but I haven't seen any mention of it.

This. I love how dark Adventure Time really is. You have talking candy, animals, etc, because of a nuclear war that pretty much wiped out all humans.
