This thread will maintain a list of all current and upcoming sales and markdowns on the Xbox Live Marketplace / Xbox Games Store for the USA.  YMMV in other regions.  If non-US sales are listed, they will be marked with their applicable region(s).

Please note:

  • You cannot currently buy any Xbox 360 content on xbox.com using your account balance, you can only use an active credit card or PayPal. To use your balance, you must make purchases on your console.  Unfortunately, even "purchasing" free content through the web site like trials requires an alternative method of payment tied to your account, though adding an empty MasterCard / Visa gift card that is registered for online purchases will work.  Xbox One games can be purchased on the web site with your account balance, but DLC cannot.
  • Some sales are intended for Gold subscribers only, as noted within each section.  This requires being a paid subscriber or within a console-activated "1 month complimentary Gold trial" account.  Neither 48 hour trials, 14 day trials nor free weekends qualify.
  • All known sales and information on sales should make their way into the OP. Major Nelson usually updates his blog with new sales information every other Tuesday.
  • ALL OFFERS ARE SUBJECT TO CHANGE! No information within this thread can or should be construed as accurate (or still valid), therefore ...
  • Always verify Xbox Live Marketplace prices before your purchase!
  • Spend wisely, have fun, and enjoy!

I thought I read that whoever bought the rights to the franchise is trying to get the servers back up.

ETA: Ninja'd like Ibuki

Nordic has it now and they have been trying to bring back older servers online or add new servers to them.
I still wouldn't get my hopes up because they should be working on the next game rather than fixing servers for an older game.

FYI to Xboxers who are also PC gamers, Steam's midweek madness sale just undercut all the Xbox sale prices on Darksiders. I'm not sure if there are any advantage or disadvantages between the PC and Xbox ports of Darksiders 1/2, though.
If you were going to get Darksiders 2 on PC you'd be better off waiting, it's been available for lower (just the other day Amazon had a pack with the game, DLC, and several other games for $8 after EC coupon, which if you don't have are easy enough to come by via other CAGs), and the original was bundled several times and has been $4 on Steam. Just an FYI for those considering it who don't plan to play it right away.

I tried out the Wheel demo and I think I'm gonna pick it up, looks crisper on my 360, more unlockables, and cheevos.  I have most of what I want on XBLA so this seems like a good purchase.

Super Hero Squad TIG

Okay, so who owns this game now?

Did Nordic buy the rights, during the auction?

Is $30 the sale price?

Nordic for time being does since I'm guessing they bought THQ's digital distribution of the game until it runs out and goes back to Marvel like everything else and no.

Regarding Darksiders 2 unobtainable achievmnt (for sending a gift to a friend), some words from nordic games this last december:

Guys,
Please stay calm about this. This is not in our fault! The achievement is dependent on the online environment from THQ. We also acquired this but unfortunately Microsoft changed in June some security certificates and while we are working with Microsoft since August (it took 1,5 months to figure out its not the actual online environment) on this issue we are totally dependent on their help about it.

I will not rest before this issue is fixed.

I am sorry for not giving you regular updates about it recently.
Add to that another achievmnt for obtaining the rest of them, so 2 cheevos worth 20G total that can't be earned.

But do not let that temporary (or not) inconvenient puts you away from this game, cos its super fun. Very Soul reaver at its heart and thats the best compliment. I loved the first and i'm enjoying the second; no bugs or glitches in 10 hours of gameplay so far, maybe the mandatory update fixed them all. Those who talk about backtracking being an issue should realize the game is more sandbox than linear, do you backtrack in GTA? :p And some paths get accessible further in the game when unlocking new abilities, metroidvania style, that can't be bad.

Anyway mine is a bundle copy so if the sale doesnt adjust to your pocket, find a better deal, or just wait but don't forget about this game. I hope I can see 2 more sequels to complete the riders saga.

I also really enjoyed Darksiders 2, but wasn't in the mood for platforming when I rented. It reminded me of the older Tomb Raiders.

I own Wheel of Fortune on the Wii to play with my girlfriend but I may buy the 360 version here too. Like the idea of having it on my system plus some easy Cheevos.
Just so everyone's aware, the 360 version is a direct port of the Wii--keeping that in mind, getting achievements while couch co-oping is a nightmare since only the "main player" gets achievements. One of my many bitches when I wrote about it on Raptr, along with the too-high chance of landing on Bankrupt (which seems to be constantly) that pretty much sucked the fun out of what was supposed to be an easy "girlfriend game" pickup. Caveat Emptor and whathaveyou.

The update did not fix the freezes. I would hope the game breaking glitches were addressed though.

slightly off topic but very helpful, I figured out how to REMOVE YOUR PAYPAL account from xbox live. They've made this notoriously hard to do, so you go through paypals site instead.

- log into your Paypal account
- click Profile, then My Money in the menu that appears
- under My pre-approved payments click update
- look for Microsoft/Xbox live in the list and click it
- next to where it says status click cancel

So AC: Liberation HD came out today. How do you get the discount? I tried looking at the price in the marketplace and it says $19.99 and I do have the AC4 season pass.

yeah, I ended up picking this up last night and while IMO it looks 10 times better than the Wii version there is a definite port element. And a lot of bankrupts. Still, I'm satisfied with the purchase.

Someone on GameFAQs said the $14.99 price was there through the Liberation icon on the Dashboard, while the marketplace showed $19.99.

Maybe it will take a little while for it to trickle through the entire system.

Tomb Raider (the lattest one), is also on sale for gold members. $20.09 in USA, dunno why xbldb didn't pick it up.

And now that they all are on sale, which one you prefer? Any favourites? I'm not into these games, since I tried to play TR2 back in the day and couldn't finish it :( But it's always good to know which is the better game in a serie.

I'm not really a Tomb Raider fan, but I am tempted to pick up Underworld since I have all the other TR games on the 360.
I would have been had they all been like Tomb Raider 2013, that game surprised me and breathed a breath of fresh air into the series.

Haha, what's not to like about jump puzzles with horrible camera angles? :p

The latest one was definitely the best of the series, in fact I'd recommend it. Good story and it's just a fun play.

It's been on sale since the beginning of the month, I guess that's why it wasn't picked up.

P.S. I'm sorry to do this but it's latest*

I still can't get the damn AC Liberation HD discount. Has anyone been able to successfully get it? If so, when and where did you buy your AC4 season pass?

I LOVED the new Tomb Raider. A little short if you didn't do ALL the side quests, but the story itself was great and the graphics were kick ass. I like the reboot of Lara herself, too. Gave her some likeability that the previous iterations never got.

Yeah, old Lara came off as a bit snobby.

Even if it was a port of Moonwalker to the xbox live arcade?
I Remember playing that in the arcade where it had three player co-op and everyone played as Michael Jackson and if you touch a monkey you turn into a robot. Suffice to say that game was...pretty fucking sweet.

I used to have it on the sega genesis, not quite sure why that was the game that came to mind...

Because it's awesome. Well, never played the Genesis version, but I can only hope or assume that if you touch a monkey in that one you still turn into a robot. Just like how I assume that's the law of the world in real life as well.

The arcade version was much better as a game overall. It had the isometric view and was more of a beat em up. The Genesis version is considered a bit inferior.

My sister's a massive Tomb Raider fan, which means that I've got lying around (and well, not gonna lie, I also like the games) all the Tomb Raider/Lara Croft games. Given the sales, I'll give my 2 cents on all the content on sale right now:

Lara Croft and the Guardian Of Light: This game is currently FREE for Gold Members on Games With Gold, so at that price there's absolutely no reason to miss it. This is a spin-off to the Tomb Raider series, and in fact while the exploration and the combat are still in over exotic places and such, this is actually a very clever and brilliant twin-stick shooter. With a view from above, this does feel a bit bizarre for a Lara Croft game, but the controls are tight, the action's frantic and satisfying, the graphics surprisingly great for an XBLA. It also has a brilliant coop for 2 people, which is different enough from the single player as both characters have different abilities - and even the puzzles change between the two game modes. The game is also extremely replayable, thanks to tons of secondary objectives to missions, and the hunt for high scores is also a great incentive to go back. It's got plenty of depth and it's very polished, both single and coop this game's great. The DLCs don't seem to be on sale: there's two which add Kane & Lynch and Soul Reaver characters, so obviously these ones are extremely recommended if you're fan of these sagas because even all cutscenes are redone and dubbed to fit the new characters. The rest of the DLCs are okay extra challenges, if you love the game get 'em, but they're nothing special. For free, you can't miss it.

Tomb Raider Legend: This is the first game of the previous trilogy of Tomb Raider games, and also the first to come out on the previous generation of consoles. When it came out, it had one of the finest graphics, obviously it didn't age all that well but the water effects and such look still great. The gameplay's pretty good - gone is the insane difficulty and loss of direction from older games for better or worse, controls help you pull out the tricks you want to, and while there's plenty of platforming and puzzling still, the action is much more prominent than older Tomb Raider games, though with auto-lock on enemies, most fighting sequences aren't really that hard. The game is surprisingly linear for a TR game, and while it does have somewhat well-hidden secrets from time to time, it's pretty straight-forward. It is in many ways a welcome modern version of the saga, as there's plenty of new ideas, different places, a better than usual storyline and even plenty of costumes - though the linearity may bother some. It is a great game, one of the finest TR games around. 6.79$ is a good price per se, though the game was on sale for 5$ as well a while ago. The game's got more than enough content to justify the price anyway.

Tomb Raider Anniversary: Second game of the previous trilogy, this is effectively acting as a prequel (and as such, it does insert itself into the canon for the trilogy, despite remaking the very first game from 1996). Rather than a proper remake, this is a spiritual remake of the first Tomb Raider game: the storyline is more or less intact, as are the locations and most of the things you do, but it's also updated to Tomb Raider Legend's visuals, gameplay, and the levels are only similar to the old game, things to actually do and puzzles are different, so think of this like more Legend. It is, however, not as brilliant as Legend: while this game is more open, with more complicated puzzles (finally), some of the modern aspects (like the radio) from Legend are unfortunately gone, and this particular game relies a bit too much on pulling off very specific moves like dodging and climbing, which in hindsight seems like all you do in this game. If you love the saga, you can't miss this one because from a storyline perspective it's important, but out of all the games, I'd recommend this one the least. Still, it's once again 6.79$ which is apparently the lowest price on it, and with again plenty of content I can't say it's not worth it.

Tomb Raider Underworld: Final chapter of the trilogy, Underworld continues the story as Legend left it (as Anniversary was a prequel). This is the true sequel to Legend: bigger, better, while never really revolutionizing what Legend offered. It does have a more refined gameplay, better puzzles (about time), bigger areas, more things to do, better hidden secrets, and the storyline is finally closed in this one so it's worth getting. From today's point of view, out of this trilogy, Underworld is probably the finest, with it being the most up-to-date game around. Again, plenty of variety and depth so it's worth getting, though I'd mention that this one does have a couple glitches which I did encounter while trying to solve some puzzles, which usually happen when you try to think "outside of the box" to solve something. Nothing gamebreaking though, hilariously enough in a level I've found a glitch which denied me progress, then I managed to find another glitch which made so that I could continue anyway. But these idiocies aside (which might have even been fixed with patches), this game's totally worth it. 6.79$ is, again, the lowest price for it, so I can definitely recommend it.

Tomb Raider (2013): Discussed to death probably, this game is a mixture of Tomb Raider elements and some of the best features from modern gaming. It is the first open world Tomb Raider, and in fact shares a lot of similarities with the Batman Arkham series (places reachable only with certain gadgets you later unlock, secrets to find by maps, and so on), Far Cry 3 (hunting for example), and even Dark Souls (with the bonfires). The action is a mixture of what Tomb Raider games used you to get, and what Uncharted games give you - and as such, it's the first TR game without auto-lock on enemies, you have to take your aim on your own. The puzzles are not many but they're good, but the exploration, the level of interaction and unpredictability of events is great, and while many things are scripted, it's a truly impressive experience. Going with a young Lara through this journey of nightmares is really thrilling, and you really learn to feel for her. It's a mature game with tons of quality gameplay and things to do. It's even got a multiplayer which is nothing special however, but do get this for the single player. A couple dozens of hours of gameplay can come out of it if trying to get 100% completion, though the game was already cheaper and will likely be so again than the current 20$. It is one of the best games of 2013 though, so you don't exactly waste your money by getting it at this price either.
