This thread will maintain a list of all current and upcoming sales and markdowns on the Xbox Live Marketplace / Xbox Games Store for the USA.  YMMV in other regions.  If non-US sales are listed, they will be marked with their applicable region(s).

Please note:

  • You cannot currently buy any Xbox 360 content on xbox.com using your account balance, you can only use an active credit card or PayPal. To use your balance, you must make purchases on your console.  Unfortunately, even "purchasing" free content through the web site like trials requires an alternative method of payment tied to your account, though adding an empty MasterCard / Visa gift card that is registered for online purchases will work.  Xbox One games can be purchased on the web site with your account balance, but DLC cannot.
  • Some sales are intended for Gold subscribers only, as noted within each section.  This requires being a paid subscriber or within a console-activated "1 month complimentary Gold trial" account.  Neither 48 hour trials, 14 day trials nor free weekends qualify.
  • All known sales and information on sales should make their way into the OP. Major Nelson usually updates his blog with new sales information every other Tuesday.
  • ALL OFFERS ARE SUBJECT TO CHANGE! No information within this thread can or should be construed as accurate (or still valid), therefore ...
  • Always verify Xbox Live Marketplace prices before your purchase!
  • Spend wisely, have fun, and enjoy!

Dungeons & Dragons finally went on sale! Time to relive all those times playing it at the roller skating place back in Florida.

Can someone give me a rundown of the Dark Souls story before I commit? If the story sucks, I won't play it. And that would be a waste of my dollars. #CheapAss

The story is confusing and mostly made up by the DS community from whatever scraps FROM gave the players. There is probably 20 lines of dialogue in the entire game. You have to read every item(and have a bunch of rare items) description(and possibly some comics/books/ect) to make some sense of what is going on. I love the game and dont care about story in games, but coming from a person who has beat the game twice, I have no clue whatsoever of what the story is. My story is: "Everything wants to kill me, I best kill it first."

It's the kind of story you have to dig for. Lots of stuff there, but it isn't thrown in your face with cutscenes and dialogue.

DS should not be played for the story. It does have one and it's not bad, but it's clearly there only as motivation for the combat. This is not an Elder Scrolls game where immersion is a high priority. It's all about killing and being killed. (Not necessarily in that order.)

Like others have said, there isn't a complete story in the game. A lot of it you will have to find online on fan sites if you really want to know what is going on. It is mostly there to be an easy, yet very time consuming, 1,000 Gamerscore. The hardest part is figuring out how to get to where you want to go. After your first playthrough, the next couple are a walk in a cake shop that also sells pet cats from Canada where I once saw a man dancing near a hat shop that was once owned by a man that had a cousin from Japan.

Don't know if anyone has posted this but xbox one has its first deal of the week. Powerstar golf is $5 off from $19.99 to $14.99.
I know they're not differentiating between Arcade and Games on Demand on XB1 but $20 is expensive. It's rare that I spend $15 on XBLA titles now. Still I decided to support Peggle 2 when it came out to show support for lower priced titles. Plus the game is fun and has lots of replay value if you want to 100% the achievements. Since XB1 won't have a ton of games for awhile I'm trying to avoid buying anything else in hopes they'll be released through Games With Gold whenever that begins this year. For 360 I've owned every GWG title except DR2 and Magic so I'm trying to avoid that situation again.

Is that a Gold only discount? The web page for the game doesn't indicate a discount, and the sales web pages still show last week's stuff.
Not sure if it's gold only. On the xbox one store on console discount shows up. It doesn't show on website for some reason.

I agree 100% on $20 way to high. Just think 50% will now be $10 not the usual $5 on the 360. I don't agree with xbox policy of not separated retail to arcade games. You can see the difference between the two.

So, do the free Games With Gold deals last?  By that, I mean, when my Gold Membership expires, will I still be able to play the game?

Or is it like Playstation Plus free games/Instant Game Collection, where the free games don't work when your Playstation Plus membership expires.

Thanks in advance for any help!

You can keep playing your games after your Gold Membership expires.

If the game's available elsewhere in Europe, I might just be able to pick it up with a different country account and make it work, as long as it's a European region like Italy is. Bummer that the UK version is basically twice as much as the US one, I'll see if it works.
Italian cheapass here ahah, I'm glad I don't like JRPGs because ToV is cheaper in the US but the Splinter Cell games aren't (10$ in USA vs 5€ here). I'll try Double Agent's demo before buying it, I still haven't started some of the last weeks deals :(

Got my Dance Central, MSP code was unused but I guess it's expired, thought people said they were re-activated or something a while back

Edit: Never mind, let me redeem it on the website. Got paid for buying the game! :D/

I never saw this D&D game in arcades back in the day and I was an arcade rat. Pretty cool they had a leveling up system back then. I don't think I ever saw an arcade game with RPG elements in it.

LMAO@ the crazy sounds the Shadow Elf boss makes. Sounds like the chorus to What Does The Fox Say

FYI, Splinter Cell Conviction on sale at GameStop for $4.99.  Cheaper than the DoW $9.99

Had to go to the pharmacy to pickup a prescription for one of my kids and stopped at a GameStop in the same mall area while waiting for the prescription to be filled.  I lucked out because the copy I received seemed darn near new and not the typical mashed up box and manuals and no scratches on the disk.

Bit on Dark Souls. I watched a bunch of videos, checked out the mythology and realized... There's co-op. It sounds alright.
There isn't really co-op per se. The game is really fun though and being able to summon another player to help out with a tough boss is nice but keep in mind it does open you up to invasion, which is not nice.

I'm stuck in Blighttown at the moment and man does it chug. Makes me really wish Dark Souls 2 was coming to PS4 and Xbox One. :(

13-2 was on sale a few times ago in disc format brand new last year for $10. I Remember both Newegg and Best Buy having it at that price.
Yes I know, I bought my copy from BestBuy. I guess all this quoting muddled the question I was asking. So here it is again:

How come FF13-2 is often on sale, while FF13-1 never is?

Still waiting for DLC to go on sale though. It's been before I know but haven't had money til now.

It's not something I'm happy about, but it's also not all that dire. I have my One set in that standby mode or whatever (looks to be powered off, but will turn on if you say "Xbox On") and all patching and whatnot will be done automatically while I'm not playing...
It's called "spy mode".

Try with a spanish account if you want. It's around 10€ here, so yeah, double the american price anyway.

Yeah, double than the americans, but I'm sure that in the UK marketplace is worse, since they usually get the same pricetag as ourselves (spain), but with pounds (which worths more).

Going to stick my neck out here. Dark souls is fun, but I feel The Witcher 2 is the game that everyone thinks Dark Souls is. If that makes sense.

I enjoyed DS but felt the difficulty was gimmicky and tedious. Block/dodge/roll/backstab for 10 hours + some a lot of random platforming elements. I died more times from falling than everything else combined. Seriously, how have I not seen people talk about all the platforming. Outside of Sif, the centipede, and the final boss, most of the boss fights were a joke. Two or three were literally compromised of circling the boss and stabbing, Nito and the Crystal Dragon, nothing else but holding my thumbsticks at an angle and tapping RB.

I feel like Witcher 2 is a more complete game with difficulty that isn't based on boring tedious fights. I don't think I died as much in W2 but it was still fairly difficult on the harder setting, without dumbass falling deaths and bosses with one shoting nonsense.

Was DS worth the 3 something i paid for it? Yes. Was it enjoyable, yes. Is it the best game ever. Not even. I'm not saying W2 is but I do think it's a better RPG with a truer challenge.

Sorry for any grammar/spelling, on a tablet.

Tales of Vesperia for under $5? Holy hell yes. Now we just need a sale on Graces F and a quick price drop on Symphonia Chronicles to round out the current-gen collection, at least until Xillia 2 comes out.

Dark Souls might be worth picking up too; I missed it during the last $5 sale.

Bed of Chaos is the only reason I haven't maxed out PC version yet. Remembering how frustrating it was to beat him on Xbox. Platforming in DS sucks.

Yes I know, I bought my copy from BestBuy. I guess all this quoting muddled the question I was asking. So here it is again:

How come FF13-2 is often on sale, while FF13-1 never is?
Because that game is nearly 4 years old? Plus it's a Platinum Hits, once any game hits that status the only deals you'll see on it is the B2G1, buy one get one half off or two for $20 kinda deals. Even then, that was another game that hit the $10 mark a year and a half or so after release at alot of retailers.

Not sure if anyone answered me before, is Tales of Vesperia in English at all? All the text in the pics aren't
My hard copy definitely has both English and Japanese options, and I bet all other copies released in US all have the same. Unless you bought the game from Japanese Market.

Yes ToV-GoD should have English language as a prime and Japanese version optional. Although I don't like English dubs, IMO it is so much better in original Japanese.

Did that Pepsi phone number guy get banned? I keep seeing quotes of him that are pretty funny, but not the posts. What's the story with him?

I personally like Tales series because of their dynamic battle system. In ToV you are in complete control of you character, there is almost no turn base fighting (I hit, delay, wait till the enemy hits me, and here I go again). You can always switch to automatic mode, but manual controls are the best. ToV has nice combos and linking of moves, I absolutely love that - it keeps me completely active in every fight. Also the story and the characters in the ToV are pretty awesome.

If you like any Tales series than you should def. play ToV it is one of the best. Talk about soundtrack, it has pretty moving bits lol I'm being sentimental now.

Now Eternal Sonata has good fighting system as well but you only have like few sec to execute the move meaning you have to deal as much damage as you can in short period of time. Than stand still and wait for the enemy to attack : /

Overall I'm not really a fan of ES story and the characters, not my type of JRPG.

No offense to you as a person, but I think it's so stupid when I see so many people say this. How is it "better" in Japanese if you can't read or speak the language?
: )

I was only talking about the dubs. By all means keep English in all menus and descriptions. I like original Japanese voices to characters and the story. Also I think English subtitles are perfect.

"So many people say this" for a reason. Have you watched Japanese shows in English dubs? and than in original Japanese. What a difference!!! The feeling is completely different when you experience story in its original colors. Don't get me wrong some English dubbing is well done. However, I think good English dubs don't happen very often. Personally I like to keep original languages and use English subtitles lol I've become quite a fast subtitles reader doing that.

In addition it is quite beneficial in the way you learn different language bit by bit.

I'm totally with you in general but in this specific instance I would recommend using the english dub. It's english dub is fantastic and actually enhances the entire experience. This is one of the few RPG's that I can handily say that the english dub is superior.

I guess he wasn't in this thread. He was posting in a few others yesterday. People called him Pepsi guy and a bunch of other names. I guess he is well known for getting banned and re-joining with similar names. He was using a Pepsi distributor's phone number as his name yesterday.

Someone quoted you on this and the user is right. You brought up shows. Yes, usually Japanese shows are much better in the original with a sub. I used to watch a ton of anime and only a small few have a decent dub. Video games are different though. And especially when you consider this is a Tales game. They have done a really good job with the entire Tales franchise using professional voice actors and Vesperia is one of the best. There is no Star Ocean voice work here.

So, this week at least, it's a "pay us (for a gold account) to get deals" promo.

I can't blame Microsoft for trying to maximize their profit.  Though, since I have a no entertainment subscriptions, no exceptions policy, this will be a "give Steam my $" week.
