This thread will maintain a list of all current and upcoming sales and markdowns on the Xbox Live Marketplace / Xbox Games Store for the USA.  YMMV in other regions.  If non-US sales are listed, they will be marked with their applicable region(s).

Please note:

  • You cannot currently buy any Xbox 360 content on xbox.com using your account balance, you can only use an active credit card or PayPal. To use your balance, you must make purchases on your console.  Unfortunately, even "purchasing" free content through the web site like trials requires an alternative method of payment tied to your account, though adding an empty MasterCard / Visa gift card that is registered for online purchases will work.  Xbox One games can be purchased on the web site with your account balance, but DLC cannot.
  • Some sales are intended for Gold subscribers only, as noted within each section.  This requires being a paid subscriber or within a console-activated "1 month complimentary Gold trial" account.  Neither 48 hour trials, 14 day trials nor free weekends qualify.
  • All known sales and information on sales should make their way into the OP. Major Nelson usually updates his blog with new sales information every other Tuesday.
  • ALL OFFERS ARE SUBJECT TO CHANGE! No information within this thread can or should be construed as accurate (or still valid), therefore ...
  • Always verify Xbox Live Marketplace prices before your purchase!
  • Spend wisely, have fun, and enjoy!

I have to agree. and I say that as someone who never played Dungeons and Dragons in the arcade yet I played Golden Axe religiously as a kid.

I fail to see the problem.

The problem for me with GTA5 was the police. It was frustrating to hide from them and they'd begin a chase/shootout for any reason or none. I felt like I couldn't even experience the game without everything I tried to do turning into a tedious 20-minute police chase. I kept wishing I was playing Saints Row or Sleeping Dogs instead.
I understand but they changed it to something more real. You get ahead turn into a hiding spot and you escaped. I thought it was easy but thats imo..

Tower of Doom isn't even the "good" one. When you play Mystara, it'll feel like you were playing Tower in slow motion because of the added moves and responsiveness to each character. The slide alone lets you pick up loot instantly. (It's funny how adding the slide to Mega Man also made that series feel more nimble - both games are developed by Capcom.)

Of course I love both D&D and Golden Axe. I also have to give props to Iron Galaxy for their stellar conversion - I just wish I could find people online for Tower.

Maybe we can get enough people here with this sale to set a Tower date.....I'm up for it. Can you play 2 local and the 2 online, or does it have to be 4 online?

I took a pic of the codes and sent to my friend, he said the second Maw code worked and thanks you. Ms Splosion Man is gone.

I actually enjoyed Ms. Splosion Man more than the original, but I really loved both games. I can understand the burnout that others faced though. I definitely didn't bother with Hardcore on either of them.
I loved Splosion Man but couldn't get into Ms Splosion Man when I bought it at launch. I will give it a shot again sometime.

Regarding GTA V, I found it pretty fun the first month it was out when I played, but online was a bust and I just haven't gone back to it yet. I got billions for the SP aspect but even that hasn't motivated me to go back to it. Little disappointing, IMO

I had more fun on RDR online then I did GTA V

Picking up Tales tomorrow.

Bought indie game Mount Your Friends last weekend and it is amazing.

I've been working on a cookie clicker clone of Mount Your Friends. Still has a long way to go, but the basic idea is there. http://orteil.dashnet.org/experiments/idlegamemaker/?game=zrKfg735 (Works better in IE than Chrome. Haven't tested other browsers)
That name got me curious. Tried it. Bought it. Hilarious, especially with friends. Hard to find a better use for a dollar.

Speaking of sex and shameful indie games... I bought Don't Die Dateless, Dummy! I was in a party chatting with another female friend and DDDD was recommended to me based on my interest in Dead Island. I told my friend about it and decided to download the trial as a joke. Then as I played I voiced out all the dialog to her in my normal female voice and the in-game girls as some random voice that came out of my mouth. We were having so much fun with the mocking when suddenly it said the trial limit was met. We couldn't leave without finding out if I got the girl or turned into a 30 year old virgin wizard so I bought it. Spoiler alert: I turned into a wizard :( But after another playthrough I got a girl :p I regret nothing!

Don't Die Dateless Dummy looks interesting. I've read all these posts related to Phanton Break being on sale next week. I've never heard of it, so I checked it out on Xbox.com and it does seem like it would be cool...if it were 20 years ago. Fighting games had their heyday with Tekken 3. After that, it's all been blah.

I wouldn't go that far. There have been good games aplenty since Tekken 3. Hell, I believe Destrega and Guilty Gear both came out the same year as Tekken 3. Tekken Tag was great. Soul Calibur 2 was fantastic. Marvel Vs Capcom 2 is still one of my favorite fighting games of all time. I could go on and name more good to great fighting games post-Tekken 3, but you get my point. I won't say that Tekken 3 wasn't a fantastic game...it certainly was. There have been some awful fighting games between then and now for sure, but I wouldn't call Tekken 3 the end of good ones.

He's not even talking about the right Phantom Breaker game.

Ironically though, to me it seems that the games that follow the simple formula of earlier fighting games are the ones that really work out the best - stuff like Dead Or Alive, which is still based on regular kicks, punches, combos, and classic blocks. No crazy-ass 2492489 combos, no hit-by-bit blocking, no ludicrous speed and chaotic action, barely any long-ranged attacks (if at all), barely any enviromental traps (if at all)... I picked up UMvC3 during the holiday sales, and that game is just too damn much. Tons of characters and bright colours on screen, enormous combos, giant effects, insane speed, absurd blocks... it kinda defeats the purpose, any strategy, and it just boils down to smashing your 240209-key combos faster than your opponent. So he's got a point with the fighting games going downhill in the past years, luckily there's exceptions around (Injustice, newer Dead Or Alive games, Mortal Kombat, etc.).

Me too. GTA V has a much bigger map and more stuff to do, but somehow RDR was still more fun online.
Because it was the Wild West (pun sort of intended). There are less rules and less structure. I love GTA IV because it puts you all on a map and says "do whatever." Now I have to worry about hiding in my apartment, buying weapons and ammo, not getting on anyone's list for bounties. Just a bunch of crap.

Ironically I wasn't excited for The Last of Us's multiplayer but it was fresh, new, and it had a deep sense of strategy. After I was like this might be multiplayer game of the ye-- oh wait, GTA V!" Then that failed and is as like "oh wait, Battlefield 4!" And that failed too. So TLOU somehow managed to beat the two games whose predecessors kicked ass in multiplayer.

Wow that DDDD video was the worst thing I've ever seen. Ever.
Then let me have your eyes watch the greatest thing. Ever.

I Also like how after a day or two after deals are out that this thread always disolves to random posts and everyone is fine with that. Also Miley Cyrus has got shit on Iron Man.

Tekken 3 was definitely a touchstone for me aside from Rival Schools on ps1 & dreamcast. Hell I don't remember enjoying fighting games that came after T3 as much as I did Namco's masterpiece. Sure was a "heyday". All my friends were really into Tekken3 we would do private tournaments with money prizes. Everyone had their own favorite fighter, mine was and still is Law and maybe Fury.

lol there was so much hate and anger at tournaments, but still it was fun times as a matter of fact I don't remember having so much fun with any other fighting game all the way up to this date.

Takken 3 Rules!!!

And this is why the human race is doomed! :D

How can I have a backlog if I actually play these games?!
pretty proud(?) of myself for chipping away at it lately. It helps to set some games to easy, just beat Ghostbusters and it would have been a lot more frustrating to play on anything but easy I could tell. As a child of the 80s/90s it was pretty fun though, worth the play through if youre a fan at all. Playing through DmC now, that game is pretty nuts and since I hadn't really played previous iterations in the series, the emo-Dante didnt bother me at all.

So I'm able to get through about 3 games a month, and then sales happen and I add 4 new ones... so many games, so little time.

Depends on what you play, and how much of a completionist you are. There was talk earlier of 250+ hours into Tales of Vesperia. Me, 400+ hours into Dragon Quest IX here, 900+ hours into Animal Crossing New Leaf there, working toward Seriously 3.0 in Gears 3, can't pass up a good deal on a highly rated game ... backlogs just happen.

Regarding GTA V, I found it pretty fun the first month it was out when I played, but online was a bust and I just haven't gone back to it yet. I got billions for the SP aspect but even that hasn't motivated me to go back to it. Little disappointing, IMO
Rockstar is good at game design in the sense of capturing detail and somewhat good in story/mission progression. But, they kind of suck at online/multiplayer. GTA Online has become repetitive and extremely limited. And full of trolls. Maybe the upcoming heists will rectify that, but I doubt it.

plus they still need work on creating good control schemes that work.

Personally I had mixed feelings about GTA V. The campaign was a blast, thanks to some great gameplay, amazing graphics (if a bit glitchy at times), the best storyline in any GTA so far (as far as I'm concerned), a massive and living area, a great variety... I rushed through the whole story in a few days, doing every single side-mission and stuff as well (besides collecting the UFO parts, finding letters, and the boring crap like that). It has to be noted however that while free-roaming is fun, there isn't really much you can do as for "random fun" that you couldn't do in previous GTA games (and that you can't do in more ridicolous fashion in Saints Row 3/4 or Just Cause 2). Come to the online part then: the launch was a buggy mess, but once it got fixed it still failed to capture me much. High level people with indestructible cars and insane weapons have an insane edge over lower level people. People spend their time trolling to steal cash, cars or whatnot, rather than work on the missions - which, let's face it, races aside they're pretty meh. The idea of owning houses and cars is fun, but in reality it is a pain in the ass as you try to save all money and items you have, trying to avoid some idiot stealing it. The character creator is pretty limited and uncomfortable too, Saints Row 3 already had a 1000 times better one at that. After all, despite featuring amazing tech and one of the best storylines of the past years, plus a gameplay that is indeed much more refined than any other Rockstar game probably... it gets boring. There is nothing you do that you haven't done before, and while the crazy amount of things to do can be overwhelmingly awesome at first, as you finish the missions in SP and wander a couple hours in MP, you've pretty much seen it all. It's open-world, so it's also down to people's creativity to find fun in bizarre things, but for people that played through many open-world games, there's only so many new ideas you can have with the same gameplay elements in place.

EDIT: Oh, and of course, as many online games, hackers just ruined things even more. With the amount of hacking and cheating online, it's hard to justify spending time on a game that often unfairly screws you over thanks to dumb players.

I forgot to mention that the "female" characters in the online portion of the game has got to be tacked on. I found myself saying in Austin Powers' voice, "that's a man, baby" quite a few times, much to my girlfriend's chagrin. It's like Rockstar saw the Call of Duty: Ghosts reveal last year, and said "we've got to have women in our game too". Then they went to their development team, who said "the game eff-ing launches in 4 months, WTF?!" So, they tacked on hair and tits, and called it good.

Also, totally agreed about hackers, cheaters, and glitchers. You can't even have a game these days without it being ruined. I liked online when it was less common, and more of a niche. Less idiots to ruin the experience.

He's not even talking about the right Phantom Breaker game.
So it's the really crappy looking one then? The little sprites running around with big guns amid craptacular graphics? Well, in that case, I still don't see what the hype is about.

In regards to Tekken 3. I wasn't saying it was the be all, end all of fighting games. I was saying that in the mid nineties were there was a glut of fighting games and I've been burned out on them ever since. I did enjoy Street Fighter 2 and Tekken 3 as well as the Soul Calibur series, but I have no interest in any fighting game anymore.

Unfortunately, we're being forced online. I'd like to think I'm not an idiot, but I've just recently taken my Xbox online. We now have to go online on release day to download patches if the game is even released on a disc at all. I really don't want to use up my Internet for games, but, if I'm going to play, what choice do I have? Don't blame the idiots who are online, blame the idiots who make them go online in the first place. I still haven't played online and I won't until that's forced upon me.

Is the Billionaire's Yacht map for Splinter Cell Blacklist worth $3.49?  The maps are the only thing I care about from the Homeland pack and I already have Dead Coast.

The XBLA Phantom Breaker isn't even a fighting game. And Tekken 3 was not the last great fighting game.

No. Find someone who already has it, and play it in coop with them hosting. You'll be able to play it fine. If you want to play it solo, then that's a different story.

Also, PSA to those who made dummy accounts for their cousins overseas: check the email associated with those accounts. I just got a $2 marketplace code in an email on one.

Grand Theft Auto is dreck. I just wish people would realize that when the games are first released, rather than coming to that conclusion a year later, after they've sold millions of copies. Stop buying them, and the nightmare ends.

Honestly, people. The actual missions are lame, the humor has gotten progressively mean-spirited and pan-to-the-face obvious, the controls are clumsy, and the latest games are full of pointless distractions when the developers should be fixing the very real problems at the core of the franchise. I'm ambivalent about sandbox games in general, but there are so many better ones than this.
