This thread will maintain a list of all current and upcoming sales and markdowns on the Xbox Live Marketplace / Xbox Games Store for the USA.  YMMV in other regions.  If non-US sales are listed, they will be marked with their applicable region(s).

Please note:

 • You cannot currently buy any Xbox 360 content on xbox.com using your account balance, you can only use an active credit card or PayPal. To use your balance, you must make purchases on your console.  Unfortunately, even "purchasing" free content through the web site like trials requires an alternative method of payment tied to your account, though adding an empty MasterCard / Visa gift card that is registered for online purchases will work.  Xbox One games can be purchased on the web site with your account balance, but DLC cannot.
 • Some sales are intended for Gold subscribers only, as noted within each section.  This requires being a paid subscriber or within a console-activated "1 month complimentary Gold trial" account.  Neither 48 hour trials, 14 day trials nor free weekends qualify.
 • All known sales and information on sales should make their way into the OP. Major Nelson usually updates his blog with new sales information every other Tuesday.
 • ALL OFFERS ARE SUBJECT TO CHANGE! No information within this thread can or should be construed as accurate (or still valid), therefore ...
 • Always verify Xbox Live Marketplace prices before your purchase!
 • Spend wisely, have fun, and enjoy!

Tekken 3 was definitely a touchstone for me aside from Rival Schools on ps1 & dreamcast. Hell I don't remember enjoying fighting games that came after T3 as much as I did Namco's masterpiece. Sure was a "heyday". All my friends were really into Tekken3 we would do private tournaments with money prizes. Everyone had their own favorite fighter, mine was and still is Law and maybe Fury.
lol there was so much hate and anger at tournaments, but still it was fun times as a matter of fact I don't remember having so much fun with any other fighting game all the way up to this date.
Takken 3 Rules!!!
I was starting to enjoy your story until you said you preferred to use Law. After this point I lost all respect. I f'in hate Law. Law is extremely over used by noobs and scrubs who can't learn how to play the game with anyone else properly. Ive encountered so many people who are so cheap when using him. Maybe this is where all the hate and anger at the tournaments came from?

ps......Soul Calibur series wipes the floor with the Tekken series or any other fighting series period.

I actually enjoy both series equally but if I had to pick one over the other I would pick the Tekken series.

My top 5 fighting game series (in order)
1.Guilty Gear series
2.Vs Series (Capcom vs SNK,MvC,SF Vs XMen)
3.Street Fighter Alpha Series
4.Tekken Series
5.Soul Calibur Series

Some honorable mentions that are somewhere in my Top 10: Battle Arena Toshinden,Killer Instinct,Bloody Roar.

Ps: I'm not trying to say that your opinion is wrong I just also wanted to leave my input.

All top fighting games lists are irrelevant if they don't include fuck Shaq-Fu! fuck

Honorable mention goes to Spartacus Legends.

Depends on what you play, and how much of a completionist you are. There was talk earlier of 250+ hours into Tales of Vesperia. Me, 400+ hours into Dragon Quest IX here, 900+ hours into Animal Crossing New Leaf there, working toward Seriously 3.0 in Gears 3, can't pass up a good deal on a highly rated game ... backlogs just happen.
Holy crap, that is some massive hours spent in those games. 900 hours in AC: NL? Game just came out last summer.

Secondary Honorable Mentions to Deadliest Warrior (since it was free at Best Buy that one time).

I love fighting games myself, but FREE AVATAR GEAR?  Automatically makes it top tier along with being free.

It's probably one of the very worst games I've ever played, but was stellar for about 30 minutes while I had a lot of drunk friends over tp play Street Fighter and Marvel.

My Obligatory Top 5 Fighters Ever:
1: Street Fighter 2 Super Turbo

2: Marvel vs. Capcom 2 (most fun game ever IMO)

3: Vampire Saviors

4: Soul Calibur 2

5: Ultimate MvC3  (It's such a bad game, but it's like crack)

Hey, question to everyone working through their backlog: are you guys going for a full 1000/1000 or just trying to finish the story? I'm on the fence about that, mainly because I don't want my gaming to feel like "work."

Thoughts?

Nooooo, never. It should definitely not feel like work. Most games are padded with not fun achievements too, kill X amount with x gun. If you go for 1000/1000 you won't come up from your back log until XboxTWO

I've been caring less and less about achievements by the day. Especially on Xbox One because they feel kinda gone. Now, sometimes I love a game so much that I'll do the whole nine yards and 1000/1000 it. For easier games I'll do that too. That way they are gone from the backlog forever. But for most games, a completion does the trick.

I never go for a platinum or 100% unless it's fun the whole way through.  If it gets boring or feels like work, I move on to a new game.

Depends on the game. If I enjoy the game and the thousand isn't too difficult or tedious, I'll definitely go for it. But I won't kill myself for it or play a game that I don't want to play, just for the points.

I love completions, just got my 32nd retail completion the other day I think.

I'll do a little work in an attempt to get 1000/1000 but if it becomes hours where I'm not having fun anymore just doing some dumb repetitive task to grind an achievement I'll give up.

How are achievements different on the One? I don't have one yet and haven't really looked into it, but I figured it would be pretty much the same. Have they de-emphasized them?

They actually emphasize them more. Each achievement has a big fancy picture to go along with them, progress towards an achievement is tracked in the achievement app, and every game has at least 1,000 GS.

I think Microsoft should take all the functionality of a site like TA and build that all right into the One's UI. That would be huge.
if we're going to make a list of things MS should do different with XB1, we'll need to start a new thread...

I only go for achievements if they seem relatively attainable without drastically changing my playstyle. For example, if I've just beaten a game on normal difficulty and this unlocks "mega death hardcore pucker your butthole" difficulty for the last achievement, I'm not getting it. Of course I don't play online or have people over to play locally, so I'd only be able to brag to myself about my achievements.

Yeah achievement tracking and progress is way better on the XBox One. Most achievements you can see how much of a % your at till completion. It's a shame the time played feature is so buggy and also that they said you would have a mini-clip for each achievement which was not the case. For example it says I put in 12 days into Peggle 2. You can compare your time played with other games, and also "more info" shows how many kills you have in Dead Rising 3 for example, or what prestige you are in Ghosts.
I fail to see the problem.
I was kind of complaining for missing all the fun :(

Talking about Backlogs, I have promised myself too many times I would refrain myself from buying new games to focus mainly on my backlog. I guess I'm weak... We are still in January and I've already bought 10 games (they all cost me 48€, but you get the point), and I may be dumbs as fuck but I'm having thoughts of buying a PS4 next March to play Killzone, BF4 and Infamous.

But as of now, I've been trying to achieve at least 60% of achievements in every game I play, which still takes too long but less than that and I'll get an OCD itch that forces me to finish it.

Ok : /

Alrighty there weapon boy you can Calibur your Soul as much as you want, and mind as well take Yoshimitsu to your team, I bet he was one of your favorites.

First of all some folks are Bruce Lee fans and like his martial arts style. And guess what Law characters somewhat fit the bill. That is why I like him in the first place. Call it cheep, call it unfair but I bet you got your ass kicked in Tekken by Law. In my experience I was one of the few who actually used Law, so many players picked Eddy and Hwoarang with their nothing but feet mashing tricks and again nothing but foot fight. Cheep is when kids mashing one button combos with Hwoarang and kick you to no end, but that is his fighting style, right!?

Now look pal, Tekken is about martial arts styles: Capoeira, Taekwondo, Wing Chun/Jeet Kune Do, Eastern and Western styles, Street Fighting varieties, etc. That is exactly what makes Tekken such a great fighting game because we experience how each unique martial art style holds against other fighting styles. Tekken could be seen as a clash of martial art styles, which was made from Japanese point of view [I'm taking Namco studio to the account]

Soul Calibur came from the same creators [Namco] and it has the same idea but this time it involves weapons only! Now I have nothing against SC it's alright fighting game but lets put down the weapons and show what your body is made of.

Nice, you're a SC fan, good for you, have fun playing those games. However, Tekken series has earned its greatness among gamers through out the world and it will never be wiped by SC series.

Also don't go assuming stuff about the other peoples tournaments which you don't know jack about. You haven't been there so your prognosis is invalid.

Holy crap, that is some massive hours spent in those games. 900 hours in AC: NL? Game just came out last summer.
Yeah, I was a bit surprised when I figured out what that averaged to a day. But I get home from work in the evening and play it while watching TV, and factoring in the time I put in before work and snippets during the day, I can believe it. I haven't grown tired of it yet, and the backlog piles up behind it.

Hey, question to everyone working through their backlog: are you guys going for a full 1000/1000?
If I did that I'd be dead before I got through five games. I just playthrough the story and maybe go for extra achievements if they are feasible and I really like the game, otherwise I can't be bothered to spend hours of my life replaying segments and grinding for a few gamescore points.

I get that some people enjoy that aspect, but I'm perfectly happy to just get whatever comes from naturally playing the game and calling it quits afterwords.

My backlog is enormous but thats because I start a game and if I lose interest in the game half way through I just stop playing it and never come back to it. It happens with a lot of the games I play. And for some reason I will complete random mediocre games like Terminator,Red Faction:Armageddon, etc. But I just cant sit and play Skyrim,Bioshock 1, GTA V, etc. Because I get bored easily.

Achievement wise I usually go after the ones with collectibles or will add a fun challenge to the game. Going through Dishonored (and the DLC) on low chaos was so much fun. Though now that I'm over 100,000 achievement score I kinda don't feel as much pressure in racking them up now since no one on my friends list is in the 6 digits so I feel I've proven my hardcoreness or whatever.

My goal was to hit 100k (hit it a long time ago) and now I'm at 158k and kinda wanna make a run at 200k lol.

I've probably got less than 500 gamerscore that I "went for". If it does come from just playing the game for fun I don't bother. Explains why I'm only around 17k I guess.

They actually emphasize them more. Each achievement has a big fancy picture to go along with them, progress towards an achievement is tracked in the achievement app, and every game has at least 1,000 GS.
In contrast, I'd say that it's much harder to just look at the list of achievements because each entry is so big and makes it a much more clunky experience than just bringing up the guide and having a list that is mostly on just one page. That it's an app that is kind of hard to get around was not the greatest idea, as going through an achievement notification only lets you see that achievement and not the list as a whole. I also want to say that you can't snap achievements to the side, but I could be wrong about that.

Finishing games and getting achievements is fun for some of us. I really only play games I like.

Well my 360 backlog is in the triple digits as is, I'm sure I can do that as well, but I got other stuff I want to get to as well like my movie, TV and other console backlog. Though on the plus side having all this backlog of stuff gives me no pressure to want to buy an XBoxOne or whatever.

I'm positive my reason for not hitting 200k is cause I was busy catching up on shows and movies, lol.

The only time I cared about Gamerscore was when whatever site it was had those contests that the person who earned the most in X time won a gift card.  I won a few giftcards from that.  After that folded, I stopped caring.

How are achievements different on the One? I don't have one yet and haven't really looked into it, but I figured it would be pretty much the same. Have they de-emphasized them?
They made them fancier, but in their own app. Looking through all the achievements is a pain as well. Instead of a list of 8 a row and three rows, now you have to scroll through each one. The lack of a guide menu means you can't pop it open really quick and start nailing home the achievements. You gotta open the achievement app, scroll past the achievements you already earned, then read each one. I haven't achievement hunted once this gen. And I was super excited for the achievements. They need to start streamlining everything.

There have been a lot of games that I wouldn't have played if they didn't have achievements that ended up being some of my favorites. Even the ones that are terrible I don't mind playing because they make you appreciate the good ones much more.

God, that sounds awful. I'm definitely going to let you guys be the beta testers while they work on bringing the UI back up to the high standard... of the 360. :/

That's a good way to look at things. :) And yeah there have definitely been games where I was on the fence and an easy 1000 was what tipped the scale, and then I ended up really liking the game. Actually Divinity II which I'm playing right now is one of those.

It is actually faster than looking at your achievements on 360. Maybe I'll make a crappy phone filmed comparison video.

I have no doubt the achievements are gonna be back to begin awesome. The challenges are kind of cool. The biggest issue with the X1 UI is that everything is constricted to its own app. Friends, messages, and achievements, why? Now I barely check my friends. I never check messages and same with achievements. They thought the snap feature would take over, but snapping is essentially just a guide menu on the right of the screen.

Snapping is cool, for sure especially when individual audio settings come in and streaming. But a quick guide needs to be implemented. Until then, I just will not go out of my game to check something like this. This isn't XMB. I shouldn't have to leave my game for a quick view of all my achievements.

I also go for achievements until I find it fun and feasible. Games where I can play a few extra hours at most, or when I'd really just miss one/two achievement otherwise, I say let's go with it. I won't beat crappy games like Bullet Witch or Infernal 3 or so times just to get the achievements for each difficulty, I have too much backlog to go for that, but if I'd already have like 900G or so, and I only need a couple time-requiring but not overly boring achievements... I can bite. I went for the 420 or so flags in Assassin's Creed 1 for example, boring as hell but at that point I wanted the 1000G - on the contrary, Borderlands 1 DLCs had some ridicolous achievements, like getting through all the arenas in DLC 2 (anyone who played that can remember that each arena is to be done on a single playthrough which can easily take up 8 hours or so). That's just too much effort and annoyance. Also, some games bore me before or after finishing the storyline, and frankly I can't get myself to spend many more hours to get everything again. Some games were largely satisfying like Alan Wake or Remember Me, but they're too linear for me to just play through everything again looking for all the secrets. It basically goes down to how excited I still am about the game, and how long the achievements take. I don't have that many 100%'d games for this reason, it does not justify my efforts to spend a lot of time on a game that I don't care about.

I did the arenas in Borderlands. Those were really fun with a good group, but yeah it was definitely a time commitment. A lot like finishing all 50 waves in Horde.

I had only one friend who had all the DLCs at the time I was playing it, and (like me) he was in no way interested to get through whole day sessions of repetitive arenas. We'd rather spend time looting Krawmerax, that dude gave some insane loot. When you need 20-30 hours to pull off 20G or so achievements, that is usually way over the line of reasonable for me.

I Also like how after a day or two after deals are out that this thread always disolves to random posts and everyone is fine with that.
This is why I do my best to post on an innocuous time towards the bottom of a page, away from the days a deal is fresh. All because I devolve into random rambling on this thread. I used to post detailed thought out opinions on the titles up for discount, but I am glad to see Baboy's excellent posts, I'm just left as the one who makes long posts with random interspersed youtube links. I don't think everyone's fine with it, but I think it is just a result of anticipation for a new set of discounts. Especially when I've already concluded that I enjoy buying games than actually playing them now. I also refuse the intervention for this bad habit with my ever-growing backlog.

How can I have a backlog if I actually play these games?!
Speaking of which, I may have isolated my problem. See, all I play are bad games no one likes. It's practically all I buy. I think I am a connoisseur of kusoge. That's my trouble with playing through my 360's backlog, it's difficult to play crap game after crap game. On this thread we've discussed if Amy or Hydrophobia is so bad it is not worth the purchase, and yet I bought both when they were discounted heavily; and the answer I have is that nothing mentioned yet here has reached the levels of bad I've played. For one, I know on Game Room, there's a title called Venetian Blinds which I do not feel is worth 240MSP.

Do not worry, I have a plan to work down my backlog. First, with all the titles I already have on the 360, I just need to find a nice girl who owns and likes all the good titles like the Assasin's Creed series, Call of Duty series, EA sports games, Battlefield games, the Mass Effect effect trilogy, Cabela titles, Bioshock Infinite, etc. and then we like marry and combine our collections of good and bad games Voltron style. Thereafter, a spawn of ours can tackle our ultimate collection of 360 goodness with all the hours I do not have to play games these days on my gamertag. I'll also require more nice girls on the side with the PS3, Wii, and whatever new consoles as well as old consoles to complete my immense backlog. With this infallible plan, I can do no wrong.

This week's sale is already a win. I've been waiting on Dungeons & Dragons: Chronicles of Mystara to finally get a discount! My XBLA collection I want is almost complete! I may even consider getting the digital version of Tales of Vesperia given the low price. Tales of Vesperia is on my "rainy day" plan of 360 games, which is for the times my internet goes out since it has no title updates nor any real online features! I had really hoped the newer content for the game would get released in my region, but now I'd have to rely on a more expensive route, which hurts the soul of any CAG. However, I do want to inquire about the DLC for Splinter Cell: Blacklist, since I've yet to really play any in the series; and I had bought Conviction's DLC before finally getting the main game recently (Conviction intrigued me with its promise for a more faster, aggressive, lenient approach to a stealth game, so it was worth the gamble for me to buy the DLC when it was discounted before I had the game), and I wonder if I should dare to attempt the dangerous use of my Microsoft monies again (any distinguishing factors of the title), or should I actually demonstrate some form of willpower against the discounted digital only content?

http://xbldb.com/offers/006-7a2

Don't worry, I'm sure it'll go on sale again before too long.
I really want all the DLC to this game to be discounted for me. When even the discount-adverse Activision even offers me a discount on the preorder DLC of X-Men Origins: Wolverine prior to delisting, I have no idea why other DLC can't even see a price drop or discount for the unfairly priced (to me) digital only content. The DLC for Duke Nukem Forever are unfairly priced at 800MSP each given the price for which I purchased the game (I did play an embarrassing amount of the multiplayer to unlock all that in the link too; again, remember, I play bad games). Konami and Bandai-Namco has titles which has so many DLC, but the total cost is more than the game just like DOA5U (Rumble Roses XX, Soul Calibur 4/5, Otomedius Excellent) it makes the purchase of a base game like a toll booth to pay more for the consessions, while fun and cruel in a game where I manage theme parks not so fun when it is for the videogames I buy.

Previous sales had a lot of wonderful discounts on 2k, Ubisoft, Square-Enix, and ex-THQ brands. However, I am surprised not many mentioned alternatives to savings, such as how the Platinum Hits release of Mafia 2 may have the discounted DLC included. Or the 360 will gain a Game of the Year edition of Tomb Raider (reboot) which will have all the DLC included (I think the Xbox platforms also get the exclusive character Zach Galifianakis, Zach Efron, or Zapp Brannigan, I forgot ...), while the more powerful consoles get the Definitive Edition which I believe also has all the DLC as well, so perhaps waiting on those disc releases to get a discount may be the most cost effective way for me to start (I can wait).

I just enjoy fighting games, old and new. I do have a strong feeling towards the titles I really spent time playing such as Super Street Fighter 2X, Street Fighter Zero 2, Capcom Vs. SNK 2 (and 1), Marvel Vs. Capcom 2, etc. yet I feel that may be a product of the time I spent on the games, they are part of my younger days and now I have less time to devote to the modern crop of 3D fighting games, but I do not doubt they have wonderful elements of gameplay which a new generation of players can enjoy for themselves. I try my best to not be mean spirited, and I happen to find the Phantom Breaker games appealing even when they do not seem to be popular; I still like the all female fighting games like Asuka 120%, Advanced Variable Geo games, Arcana Heart series, Vanguard Princess, and the upcoming Dengeki Bunko Fighting Climax for the charm. There's no need to insult the games others play, I've already mentioned that I acknowledge I play crap games but still I enjoy the games I play, and I think it is a wonderful thing people can find joy in the games you may not like.

So every February, I actually buy one Xbox 360 game at full price so every 360 CAG here can enjoy a discount from my sacrifice. Two years ago I bought XBLA Soul Calibur, and then 2 years later we got a Soul Calibur 2 HD Online discount. Last year I got XBLA Phantom Breaker: Battlegrounds and its eventual DLC at full price, and I do not have any regrets, so it is a happy day for everyone for the future discount on the game! This year's coming February for my only full priced purchase I am considering XBLA Death Tank or continue the trend with Phantom Breaker: Extra (quite tempting at this time).

I guess I've gone on too far in my innocuous posting. So I guess I'll conclude here with a director's cut of a reply I didn't post earlier (due to dated reference demonstrating my advanced age):

Needs more Scene Gurlz.
I ... love ... playing videogames all day,
Ayanami Rei,
very good cosplay ... and twins!

Here's to football good deals!

Was it really that much?! I thought I remembered each long tournament taking like 4 hours or so.

Since I did not play through the end of the longest ones, I can't say for sure, but I remember calculating that at the pace we were doing it, we could have needed up to 8 hours for each arena - then again, this was in 2 players, and I think we still didn't have overly amazing loot back then. It's true that there was a trick to make it easier, having someone host with level 1 or similarly low level, but it was still going to be a grind-fest. In short, these are the kind of achievements I just can't get myself to achieve. Oh, and also DLC 4 achievements: get the panties, the cans, etc.. Besides the two playthroughs, I spent 10-15 hours just looting the freaking robots, and still didn't manage to get enough items. Again, over the top achievements. It's too bad because I have 1600+G in that game, and the rest is not difficult per se, but considering my 100+ games backlog, spending dozens of hours to make sure I go 1750 on one while I could do thousands of other points on other games in the very same time... or not even the achievements per se, the thought of finishing other things in that time is enough to put me off from such grindfest achievements.

I always consider a game "beat" once I've done the main story.  It's pretty rare that I'll go for a full 1000/1000.  In fact, the only game I've done that with on my 360 is Mass Effect 2, and all of those achievements came from naturally playing the game.  I especially hate grinding achievements or ones that require 3+ playthroughs to get.  Just not worth it when I have so many other games in the backlog.

The 360 takes much longer to view achievements. In the video below, the 360 takes about 10 seconds longer to partially load achievements vs. X1 having them all loaded. Every time you look at the achievements on 360, it has to do this whole process over again. When you re-open the achievements on X1, it opens up to exactly where you left off.

360 = 20 seconds to load achievement list with achievement icons not fully loaded. Every time achievement list is re-opened, takes another 20 seconds.

X1 = 10 seconds to load achievement list the first time with everything fully loaded. Every time achievement list is re-opened, takes under 5 seconds.

It doesn't sound like a big difference, but when you are playing a game for achievements, it is. Especially ones that have several level or chapter specific achievements and you need to see what they are at the start of the level or chapter.

Here's the video starting at the achievement part. You can watch the earlier part too if you want to see how painfully long 360 takes to sign in and load game library vs. X1.

First boots up takes forever, but my 360 achievements take less than half that time. That's crazy, dude.
