This thread will maintain a list of all current and upcoming sales and markdowns on the Xbox Live Marketplace / Xbox Games Store for the USA.  YMMV in other regions.  If non-US sales are listed, they will be marked with their applicable region(s).

Please note:

  • You cannot currently buy any Xbox 360 content on xbox.com using your account balance, you can only use an active credit card or PayPal. To use your balance, you must make purchases on your console.  Unfortunately, even "purchasing" free content through the web site like trials requires an alternative method of payment tied to your account, though adding an empty MasterCard / Visa gift card that is registered for online purchases will work.  Xbox One games can be purchased on the web site with your account balance, but DLC cannot.
  • Some sales are intended for Gold subscribers only, as noted within each section.  This requires being a paid subscriber or within a console-activated "1 month complimentary Gold trial" account.  Neither 48 hour trials, 14 day trials nor free weekends qualify.
  • All known sales and information on sales should make their way into the OP. Major Nelson usually updates his blog with new sales information every other Tuesday.
  • ALL OFFERS ARE SUBJECT TO CHANGE! No information within this thread can or should be construed as accurate (or still valid), therefore ...
  • Always verify Xbox Live Marketplace prices before your purchase!
  • Spend wisely, have fun, and enjoy!

Obviously it's a great question the one regarding what happens to our digital content once Xbox 360's online is no more - same with PS3, of course. We're used to having stuff with no limits on the PC - your iTunes songs don't expire, your games on GOG and Steam can be redownloaded "forever" (but would obviously be suscetible to an unlikely closure of the services), but we risk losing everything we have that isn't currently downloaded - and everything else when the HDD goes bust and you have no backups. It's a scary outlook, of course we don't know whether Sony or MS have some kind of ideas for the future. As far as we know, they might even keep the servers on only for downloading the stuff we own: no more purchases, no more online gaming, no more Cloud or whatnot, just a storage for the items we bought. It could work, it's to be seen whether something like this will happen or not. With these crazy sales, I probably got myself around 60-70 GoD games, mostly in the past year or so, and while some will inevitably "rot" in my backlog, there's many that I don't want to lose. Child Of Eden, one of my favourite games ever, is sitting on my HDD, not on my shelf, and the prospect of a possible loss of said content (unless I rebuy the game on disk) is scary. It's also a dangerous situation that you can lose your content if you get banned - while most bans are far and I totally can't pity those who hack online games, ruining the fun for everyone, error can happen, someone else using your profile can happen, and so on. If for whatever reason I got banned (and for a while I was in legit fear because of the Oman wars), I'd lose my games I bought forever, expect the ones I have on my HDD - but there's like 50+ that aren't, even. As someone else also pointed out earlier, if MS/Sony or whoever decided to pull the plug, and out of nowhere "delete" my entire library that I spent years and thousands of Euros on building up... there's a good chance I would stop putting money in the games industry altogether. I also collect CDs, vinyls and music in general, and those are mine and will be mine. My CDs will be there even if iTunes goes bust, my vinyls will be there even when Xbox Music won't be a thing. If a large percentage of my games would be gone or unuseable because, suddenly, the owner of the servers got "bored"... yeah, that would be enraging. Of course they have the right to do this, Xbox Original also saw its servers plugged eventually, but that gen wasn't so heavy on the downloadable content, right now I literally have 500-600GB or so of stuff between my console and the not downloaded material. It would devastate people's trust in digital if they pulled the plug and gave no chance for recovering bought items.

what I hate is when my internet isn't functioning properly, and I'm unable to access most of my xbox arcade/ Games on demand/ indie games... for some reason they only work with an internet connection, which means once they shut down xbox 360 servers i wont be able to access the bulk of my games I paid for?
Transfer your liscences at xbox.com. That should do the trick. I try to make a habit of doing so once a year just to be safe.

Frisky, I was thinking that this was not a long term plan but rather a "temperature check" for each level of refund. In other words, Microsoft would evaluate and compare the sales for each bracket of refund. If there was a huge difference between 10 and 15, they may not be inclined to go as high as $20. Conversely, if the significant increase does not trigger until the jump from 15 to 20, then we would likely see $20 back/sale (for everyone) in the future.
This IS Microsoft we're talking about, yeah? Not likely. MS has an MO for treating their repeat customers badly. Hell, the only reason they started upping the ante for Gold Members (e.g. Sales, random coupons, actually making the rewards program WORTH SOMETHING) is because Sony started to become a contender with PS+. I wouldn't be surprised if nothing happens from this "temperature check" and they pull the same thing over and over again in the future.

Was very hesitant on purchasing mortal Kombat for 4.99 due to me having doubts on weather or not it will be boring. I was wrong this is the best purchase i have made so far! I feel bad for the people who missed out on this deal but I'm sure it will return sooner or later.

Send me a FR if you ever wanna play

Pardon my ignorance, but what exactly does this mean?

How is this done and what benefits does one gain from doing this?
Okay, so when you buy something digital on your 360, you get two licenses to play it with. One is for the console (so anyone who plays on your Xbox can play it) and one is for your gamertag (so you can download and play it on your gamertag at a friend's house).

However, the console you get the license for depends on which console you have set as your main one in your Gamertag settings. Transferring licenses means that instead of anyone being able to play your games on console A, anyone can play your games on console B. Does that make sense?

I remember when they started this sale two years ago....so much of an improvement from the games back then, aka the Gamestop bargain bin games I still haven't really played to this day.

So I don't have to do anything to play games offline on the console that I originally purchased them on? I'm not really sure if there'd be an issue because my xbox is always connected to the internet but I guess I could try testing it.

I'm somewhat familiar with the digital transfer for other consoles (something you can only do every 9 months right?) and might transfer the license to my other 360 to future proof both of my consoles.

If you purchased a game/dlc on a certain Xbox, that Xbox will be able to play said content without being online. If you're on another console you didn't purchase it on, you can't play offline.

Anyone who wants to play Mortal Kombat or anything else, feel free to add me. Always looking for more people to play with.

Conversely, I've only picked up Brothers, Walking Dead Season 2: Episode 1, and Runner 2 so far. My backlog and penny pinching is keeping me from leaping onto any of these other titles that I don't' already own. Still have MGR: Revengence to start from the GameFly sale back in September.

I added you. I'm kinda trash at fighting games but at least I'll do have someone to play with.

Aaaand another crappy sale. Well it should be called a sale only when everything is 10 bucks or lower. Reminds me of the holidays sale, last day was crap day.

Well good news, you can pick up a download copy of metro last light for the same price amazon is charging for a new physical copy... o.0 Seriously this next day of sales is horrendous. MIGHT pick up oblivion just to have it. (Also anyone else who does, you can pick up the disc GOTY version, download the DLC, and just return it).

Wow... pretty underwhelming day/night of sales for me.  I'd consider Metro Last Light, but I'm pretty sure it's cheaper than that other places.  And I know it was on sale at Gamefly as recently as a couple of days ago.

I tried a long time ago and couldn't get into Oblivion.  I enjoyed the hell out of Morrowind, but the enemy scaling in Oblivion kinda ruined it for me.  And Skyrim is still in my backlog.  I should really get to that....

Rock Of Ages for 2$. God, that game is hilarious and so much fun to play. Had genuine laughs with that. Limbo for 3$ is a steal if you never played it. And Puzzle Quest 2... get ready to sink shittons of hours into that, so addictive.

I'm easy to please when it comes to sales, given the fact I don't have a town in my shop that sells used games and I can't abuse of the great sales in the US where shops give out brand new games for 10$ on BF for example. So digital sales are usually my best bet, and while the new sales are solid, nothing that I'm sold on. I'd buy Rock Of Ages but I got it full price and don't regret it in the slightest, such an amazing game. Puzzle Quest 2... it's a time-waster, I already went through it twice between DS and PC, I fear I'll never play it on the 360. Limbo had it already. Oblivion bored me after 20 or so hours when my ex lent it to me, it's good but it gets a bit repetitive for my tastes. SR4's price is just above my hopes, so I'll skip. Tropico 4... I never cared, but 10 is a tempting price. I'll look into it a bit more.

3 bucks puzzle quest 2 good???
It's like a full-blown RPG with tons of content, loot, character customization, side missions and nearly everything you'd expect from such a game. Except the battles are like a turn-based tactical match of Bejeweled mixed with magic. It's a lot of fun, plenty of content in it too, 3 bucks is a brilliant price for it.

Skyrim fans, how is Oblivion? Never played it. LOVED Skyrim but can Oblivion provide a similar experience? Detailed comments much appreciated!

LIMBO showing at $3 - great price for these who still didn't have it!
When confirming still shows $15.

I feel ya man, i dont have a shop nearby and don't get those promos neither so i hope to get something from these sales as well.

Since the final day was meh, I went back and spent what I had left in my spacewallet on the weekly sales, and snatched Asura's Wrath, plus I impulse-bought Guardians of Middle Earth. I don't like LOTR. I don't like MOBAs. I heard servers are unstable. Achievements are grindy and almost all are for online. But whatever, for 1 Euro I had left I bit. So these sales end for me with 5 arcade and 4 GwG games. Can't complain, really.

Not a bad sale, a lot of stuff I already bought from previous sales though.

Ended up with Guardians of M.E., Soul Calibur 2 and TWD S02E01 for $7 total.

I just have a hard time spending $10 on a 3.5 year old Tropico 4 when I just bought SRIV for $13 the other night... And Skyrim for less than 10... and The Last of Us for $10... I just can't do it.

Tropico 4 - 9.89...

Isn't that somewhat like Civ:Rev???
Yeah, it's a sim series where you're a dictator of a remote island. Tropico 4 is the newest one. It's very good. I recommend it.

If you can though, I would suggest you get Tropico 4 Gold Edition instead, as it comes with a $15 expansion pack on it.

This is a pretty good sale, imo. PQ2, Rock of Ages, Tropico 4, Overlord 2, Limbo, and Oblivion are all worth asking price. It's just a shame that they're all repeats for the most part. I think the only good one I don't have is Overlord 2, but I have it for PC from a Humble Weekly.

So, let's see.. my haul is Bejeweled 3, SC2 HD Online, Walking Dead Season 2 Ep 1, DBZ: UT, Ridge Racer: U and DLC.. not too bad, but pretty lacklustre from an "Ultimate Games Sale". I might cave and get Dirt 3 and Overlord 2 as well.. but I don't know if I wanna double dip since I got them for PC so cheap recently. (Dirt 3 also has a Complete Edition).

I wish Radiant Silvergun would have stayed on sale.. oh well. I think I'm gonna rebuy Pool Nation for $1 and talk to CS about getting it owned according to the website.

Added you.

I agree with the in like a lion - out like a lamb comment.

My final haul is L4D1.  I may pick up GoME tonight or tomorrow.  Still debating that.

For anyone considering Puzzle Quest 2, be aware the game lasts forever. About halfway through I just wanted it to end. The battles are very drawn out, and I almost never died. I felt it didn't live up to the first. Nice price, though.

Also, luck based achievement for an opponent killing you on their first turn. Total bitch to earn.
