This thread will maintain a list of all current and upcoming sales and markdowns on the Xbox Live Marketplace / Xbox Games Store for the USA.  YMMV in other regions.  If non-US sales are listed, they will be marked with their applicable region(s).

Please note:

  • You cannot currently buy any Xbox 360 content on xbox.com using your account balance, you can only use an active credit card or PayPal. To use your balance, you must make purchases on your console.  Unfortunately, even "purchasing" free content through the web site like trials requires an alternative method of payment tied to your account, though adding an empty MasterCard / Visa gift card that is registered for online purchases will work.  Xbox One games can be purchased on the web site with your account balance, but DLC cannot.
  • Some sales are intended for Gold subscribers only, as noted within each section.  This requires being a paid subscriber or within a console-activated "1 month complimentary Gold trial" account.  Neither 48 hour trials, 14 day trials nor free weekends qualify.
  • All known sales and information on sales should make their way into the OP. Major Nelson usually updates his blog with new sales information every other Tuesday.
  • ALL OFFERS ARE SUBJECT TO CHANGE! No information within this thread can or should be construed as accurate (or still valid), therefore ...
  • Always verify Xbox Live Marketplace prices before your purchase!
  • Spend wisely, have fun, and enjoy!

I liked it, my only complaint is that it was too damn short. Short enough to feel like I overpaid for it ($7.50). And the only extra stuff were the collectables (diary pages which added to the story, lost IDs which were neat (you should know who the IDs belong to though, which makes them feel out of place..) and then the little handheld games which were.. okay, but the game's set in the 80s so I guess it makes sense). The story was interesting at least, even if not incredibly fleshed out. Was fun to play, but the controls were a little finicky at times.

Tequila Works (the dev) has potential, their new game (Rime) looks really good. It's a shame Microsoft shot themselves in the foot turning them away when they approached MS with Rime (probably due to lacklustre sales of Deadlight when they were given a spot in the Summer of Arcade), when they only came to MS first out of respect of their experience working together on Deadlight (they went straight to Sony afterwards). It was such a stupid movie that Phil Spencer made a statement saying it was a stupid move.
Well as far as I remember all the IDs had names of
qfamous/historical murderers
, but I might be wrong.

I just checked it out, reminded me a bit too much of ICO.
Regardless of whether or not you think it's a bad/overrated game (which is not the craziest thing to think), that is not a bad thing at all sales-wise. A lot of people whose first console was a PS2 are grown up and have disposable income now, making them a great market to target because of that nostalgia.

Well as far as I remember all the IDs -snip-, but I might be wrong.
I originally wrote that, but I realized it's kind of a spoiler. I remember being surprised when I connected the dots (and didn't wanna ruin the surprise for other people), but yeah, you're right. It's cool, but it just feels.. off. Like it's not "realistic" (these people were all over the country), and the main character isn't anywhere near being a serial killer (even if he's a bit nuts). A cool idea, just kinda in the wrong game.

I hope this is the real prank. Damnit Bloomy!

Absolution is okay. Nowhere near as good as Blood Money, but the streamlined interface does make it easier to approach. It's fairly lengthy, though some of the levels..kind of suck? Some of them are inspired enough that it evens out, I guess; overall it's a good game. Dumb story and unlikable characters, but of course storytelling has never been a strong point for this series.

It does sting a bit, having paid $10 for it on black friday. Even if I didn't have Gold, the game has plummeted in price in sales besides. I need to seriously reconsider ever buying another Squeenix-published game.

WWE 2K14 as a deal of the week blows - hopefully that's not all that there is but I won't expect more.

The Hitman sale will likely last through the first two weeks of April and is likely tied to Hitman Absolution being GWG.

If I can pipe in and just say that Hitman Absolution is a really fun replayable though often annoying game (if you're like me and have an OCD-type need to complete every level super stealthy on Hard mode). But it also has an amazing sense of humour. I mean just watch this for example:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OSIqb9DsCLw

It's also really chunky. I've probably put about 4 or 5 hours into the campaign so far and I'm likely just 1/4 of the way into the game. Contracts mode sounds neat too and there's lots of secrets and different ways to play various levels. Ultimately it's fun and smart, at least gameplay-wise, the story is very meh.

Deadlight isn't as bad as it got reviewed. It just wasn't worth $15. At this price point it's a good decent game. It's not going to blow anything out of the park. It's sort of like a 2D version of Ubisoft's I Am Alive - great concept kinda poorly excersised. It sadly suffers from having an amazing first hour and then sorta turning the game from a great survival platformer where you escape from zombie hordes into a weak sauce puzzle-platformer where you shoot levers with slingshots and have to avoid ground spikes and falling into pits. It's a sad regression into a game that is really rather meh. And the story . . . sigh the story. The whole game feels like a prologue to something else. Weak characters doesn't help either. But the setting is cool and some of the mini-games you have to search for are actually fun (but not overly replayable). It's a quick and easy 400/400 Gamerscore too for those who care about that thing.

Apologies for getting people's hopes up with my earlier post, couldn't resist. I've been waiting to post that for a few weeks now, I think I picked a decent group that would get most CAGs hearts to skip a beat. :)

I also picked up Deadlight during the holiday sale and it sits in my backlog, which is my fault because I know it can be knocked out in an afternoon. So I'll try to get to it before it goes free. Don't have Hitman, a welcome addition to the backlog.

And while the sale this week might be lackluster, the timing at least makes sense :

Though I think if they're going to do a WWE sale, next week might be timed better to coincide with Wreslemania week.

And while the sale this week might be lackluster, the timing at least makes sense :
You jerk! You jinxed us all!!!

Nah, that makes sense. Totally forgot about Wrestlemania (never cared for WWF/WWE even as a kid). Good call, should have remembered what you said before getting my hopes up.

I need to seriously reconsider ever buying another Squeenix-published game.
Today I just bought the Tomb Raider (2013) GOTY (for $12), though I know it will be given for free through GwG. I did so because I want those 7gb HDD space free and because it has all the DLC (even if almost all of it is multiplayer crap that I will never play).

Hahahaha, Oh man, and I thought they were the devs or their family members

edit: wow, xbldb didn't catch up with the sales yet. Anyone knows what happened to Spylon? He doesn't post here anymore.

To BobbyTastic or anyone who already beat Deadlight, spoilers ahead:

[customspoiler=alternate ending]about your sentence that the main character doesn't look like a serial killer, you should check the alternative ending from the PC version of the game[/customspoiler]

It'd be kinda funny if all the devs were related to.. those kind of people. It's okay, I didn't know most of the IDs, just the big ones.

I don't know where Spylon is, but I miss the dude. The site's been kinda dead in terms of news/updates since the currency conversion, I think he's just been busy and letting the site handle itself. I know he was having issues affording hosting with it, I really hope that got settled, would hate to see someone go broke over a site we're lucky to have at all.

I can't think of anything I could be less interested in that a WWE sale.  Worst weekly sale I could think of.  I'd gladly take another Rockstar sale over that.

HOLY SHIT HOLY SHIT HOLY SHIT

XBLDB PICKED UP THE FIRST-EVER AMAZING SPIDER-MAN SALE

XBLDB AND ACTIVISION SAVE THE DAY!

Yes, I'm that excited. It includes all the DLCs, and I've been waiting for them to go on sale since release (this is the first time they have) back in 2012!

I finally get to play as Stan Lee for $1.35!

I know I'm a Spider-Man junkie, but I can't help it.. a fellow New York-born nerd with gallons of snark with an animated action cartoon in the '90s? How could I not love it?

Whoa!!! DOA5 Costume Pack half off!!! Even so it's $20 though, that's two times the price I paid for the game @_@

And it doesn't have the Ultimate packs (damn, I want the Halloween pack).

Honestly thought you were dicking around. I mean. I don't know if I care about this game. All but Shattered Dimensions have sucked since Spider-Man 2. 3 wasn't bad either.

Amazing Spidey was good, tbh. Even with the moon-based webslinging. Also, I enjoyed Web of Shadows (even if I liked Shattered Dimensions more) Friend or Foe and Edge of Time were crap though, absolutely.

Also, if Ultimate Spider-Man came after Spider-Man 2, I may have to fight you for making that comment. :p

As for me overreacting, it's more that I was pleasantly surprised to see the drops out of nowhere after being annoyed with the GWG, the premature GH delisting and the crappy WWE sale and thinking this was going to be another lame week I didn't buy anything.

It's no Banjo series or ME series sale, but I'll take it. New sales are good sales.

Oh, bother. But I am interested in Stan Lee DLC. Probably about to be delisted before the sequel comes out - it's Activision's way.

Is there even a demo for it?

Also, I honestly don't even recall all the Spidey games.

Ultimate Spiderman was the best for me. Although it was ridiculously short but the art style and game play were top notch. Now I want to put it in my PS3 to just mess around but don't want to ruin what I remember to be perfect cel shaded graphics with something as silly as reality.

Nothing will top Spider-Man 2. :D

Wouldn't surprise me. Oddly enough, even though the only other Spidey movie game (Spider-Man 3)'s GoD is delisted, the DLC is still available for purchase. Not that it matters, as I believe the DLC is included in the Platinum Hits version.

If this was a pre-delisting sale, I feel like it would be included (though according to XBLDB the New Goblin DLC has never been on sale, ever). But eh, I'm not risking it either way. All 4 Amazing Spidey DLCs add up to $4.72. I'm pretty content with that price. Another set of DLCs to cross off my wishlist. Last time I did that was when the Castlevania HD DLCs were on sale over the holidays (that was a pretty exciting day too, too bad the game's MP is dead).

Everything on sale is for Gold members, but not the DOA5 costumes pack. A price drop maybe? It's weird.
Considering that the "Ultimate Costume Pack" doesn't even come with all the costumes, it wouldn't surprise me if it were a price-drop.

But then again Tecmo-Koei are greedy as fuck, so who knows? Just wait for the announced sales tomorrow.

Also, for those wondering about the Sacred Citadel DLC, it's a universal price-drop (on Steam as well), so it's permanent. It's a much better value at $2, and it even comes with achievements.

Nothing will top Spider-Man 2. :D
I'd never imply that Ultimate Spider-Man is better than Spidey 2, but I was just saying to call it a bad game is fight-worthy. :p

Unfortunately, no. You'll have to settle for YouTube footage/reviews. I can't in all fairness tell you to buy it because I like Spider-Man too much to not be biased about it (even if I wasn't the biggest fan of the reboot movie..).

I'm fairly sure that's due to Activision losing the license for them.
Yeah, if it's a pre-delisting sale, it'd be license-related. I really can't see them losing the license for it so soon, especially considering the franchise is alive and well (perhaps too alive, as Sony is planning to milk it for a movie every year due to their financial troubles).

Between Spiderman 2 and the Incredible Hulk: Ultimate Destruction, last gen was a great time for Marvel superhero games. Still waiting for another good Spiderman game. Or at least a better-than-mediocre Spiderman game.

I hope SFxT is next. All the characters I don't use have great alternate costumes.
I got the 25th Anniversary Edition as an Easter gift last year, and apparently despite being an "ultimate collection", it only comes with Swap costumes and not the alternate costumes, so I'm right there with you. Iirc, the alt costumes were on sale once, but I had none of the DLC at the time, and didn't have the budget to cover it all. So I'm right there with you. Perhaps it'll see a sale around the release of USFIV even though SFxT is dead to Capcom for the most part.

To BobbyTastic or anyone who already beat Deadlight, spoilers ahead:
[customspoiler=alternate ending]about your sentence that the main character doesn't look like a serial killer, you should check the alternative ending from the PC version of the game[/customspoiler]
Didn't watch, but I get where you're going with it. Wow, I heard of an alternate ending, but didn't know it'd go down that route. Figures the PC version is better for a game made for consoles. Thanks for spoilering it. And thanks to Tick for editing in a spoiler to his post, the ID thing is just too cool to have spoiled.

Why you gotta hate on Web of Shadows and Shattered Dimensions, bro? :p

Edit: So apparently Brazil has both Hitman Absolution and Deadlight, so there won't be alternate free titles available this time, so I guess I won't bother "moving to Brazil". I'd just get a friend from Brazil to make an account, but they might give out a Banjo game for GWG around E3-time, and it'd be a waste to buy a month's Gold sub for nothing.

The Arkham games (plus Injustice) alone have pwned Marvel this gen.
Hey now. Arkham games are great and all, but Injustice? I thought MvC3 was a much better fighter. Injustice is too stiff for me, and making the MK guys do T games takes some of the fun out of it (see MK vs. DC as well). The big patch for Injustice makes it not suck so much (which is supposedly the reason it's at EVO again this year, and not because of the massive prize pool WB is offering for the tournament *cough*), but it's still not that great, imo. The Season Pass was also lacklustre, and you know they left Martian Manhunter and Zatanna (the best DLC characters imo) out of it on purpose for more money. Scorpion as the "guest"/"free" character was dumb, even Freddy Krueger was better.

Huh the Hitman HD Pack is als 6,59€ like Blood Money over here...is it worth that price?  (I mean bot games are still more expensive than the US prices ($9.09 when convert the € price)

Not sure if it has been posted and I'm on a shit device so pardon if this old news, but Hitman Absolution is free as of right now.  I did a Bing search for it on my console, showed up, and the price was Free.  Downloading now.

Highly doubt it's being delisted as it's a Gold Members only sale and they'd likely do an open sale if that was the case. But then again who knows, I'm still stinging a bit from The Simpsons Arcade being delisted a few months back, even though it's not a good game it's something I would have like to have picked up for $1-2 at some point if it ever dropped below $5 to what it was actually worth. I think i downloaded the demo so I'm still good with that.

You can probably find a copy of Amazing Spider-man for cheaper than what's on offer here but if you have money you want to spend it's not a bad game for that price and easily up there with Spider-Man: Web of Shadows for the best open world Spidey game of the last gen. I'll spoiler tag my thoughts on it.

It got sort of mixed reviews at the time of its release. I actually really liked it a lot and swinging through the city is heaps fun as always. It's a definite 7/10 sort of game as it's rather flawed but fun. For gameplay think of it being like Batman Arkham City but without any of the polish. You have a large open world but most of the actual gameplay is in smaller building areas like a factory or research lab. Sadly it entirely lacks all the character that Rocksteady puts into their Batman games. Beenox's NYC is bland as are a lot of the interiors areas, but that's always been a problem for most open world games set in NYC, even Spider-Man 2 had that problem as last gen could never properly render a crowded NYC of 12 million inhabitants (probably why I bought the world in Spider-Man: Web of Shadows as there was a reason why people weren't on the streets). There's not much to do again in the open world other than collect comic book pages and stop the odd bit of crime. But it's still fun to swing even if the framerate chugs a bit and there's the odd screen tear. The game picks up directly after the events of the Amazing Spider-Man movie so I give Beenox credit for not just making a movie-tie-in game that rehashs the events of the move itself. It doesn't have too many spoilers for those who hadn't seen the movie (unless you were under the impression that Spider-Man was going to be beaten to death by the Lizard at the end of that one).

The next one looks alright too, sort of a better brighter more polished version of this one where it looks like Beenox actually paid attention to some of the criticism.

But yeah I'm with you BobbyTastic (also about Injustice or MK vs DC being as solid and fun as MvC3), Spider-Man was my childhood obsession so this was exciting as I never got any of the DLC for this gem. I'm struggling to decide which to get, the mini-game one sounds like a no to me, but the Stan Lee seems gold. Any thoughts on the Rhino/Lizard DLC from anyone who has played either?

Just a heads up.... Sony HAS to make the spider man movies... Sony has the license for spiderman, and if they don't make a spider man movie every X amount of years then marvel will get the license back and it'll prolly never leave marvel again lol...

Yeah it's just about the same price here in Australia. I think I'm going to skip the digital versions of these. I do recommend that people who are thinking about buying these note that the HD Pack and Blood Money are available in a disc-based bundle known as the Hitman HD Trilogy. I'm not sure what that goes for where you are used or new but it might be a better deal to buy them all together on disc. But for those who already own a copy of Blood Money it's definitely a good deal to be able to snag the rest of that trilogy for under $10.

Disc it is then thanks! Same for Metal gear HD Collection...

Well thanks to these craptastic (no offense to the Tastic family) sales, I pulled the trigger on a copy of Arkham Origins from Gamefly.

In a slightly related-to-the-sales note, SquareEnix have decided to shift their focus back to "classic JRPGs".  This is due to the overall poor sales of games like Tomb Raider and Hitman: Absolution and the great sales of Bravely Default.  This pleases me greatly.

No, I don't seriously think it's one of their infamous pre-delisting sales. Just a joke, what with the Guitar Hero business. Considering they lost all their Marvel licensed titles except Amazing Spider-man, I suspect they have one related to the films. But knowing they released Deadpool in late June with a license set to expire in late December of the same year leads me to believe they could do anything.

Oh I know, they have to. Which is why they made the reboot at all, but they don't have to make one every year. That's just them milking it for all its worth. I would imagine a Spider-Man movie every 2 years would suffice the terms of the licensing agreement (which is fine).

But yeah, once Disney/Marvel gets it back, it's over. Marvel is still suffering from when they were dumb and decided to sell the movie rights to anybody who offered (see Fantastic Four, Spider-Man, X-Men, hell, some studio even owns the rights to a NAMOR movie).

I haven't seen much of the trailers for #2, but apparently people are saying it looks better. We'll see. :p

Amen, dude. And if nobody gets back to you regarding your question, I'll make sure to play the DLC myself by the end of the week and report back.

Also, completely agreed on how the sequel game looks (no more moon-slinging), and how this one performs. It's a good game, that isn't bogged down by being a movie tie-in (not as good as Wolverine: Origins, but remember, that one wasn't originally a movie tie-in, they just got lucky :p).

For any other Spider-fans in the thread, I'll just leave this here..

If you like that, there's a sequel by the same guy, but I won't post it because this post already has too many YouTube links.

I know, I was just entertaining the notion. You're right, you never know with Activision. I'm guessing whatever license they had/lost was some sort of bulk package that included everything but the new movies.

Considering Capcom lost the license at around the same time, I have a feeling that Disney jacked up the renewal fee for 2014 to some ridiculous amount because they wanted to price gouge or to get more into the video game business after the Star Wars buyout (and shuttering LucasArts) and give the licenses to someone new (like they gave the Battlefront license to EA).

We were talking about this in the Steam thread. And while this is a good thing, I doubt it'll change anything currently in motion. Here's what I wrote:

Oh, in terms of the Squeenix thing Fox linked to, don't worry Hitman fans, the devs behind Hitman have talked about the next Hitman game they're currently working on (doubtful Squeenix will can it at this point), and it sounds much better than Absolution. Here's a link -> http://www.lazygamer...ealthy-sandbox/

The new Sleeping Dogs game, Triad Wars, is also confirmed to be in development for 360, PS3, Xbone, PC, PS4. I doubt they'll can it either. No worries folks.

http://en.wikipedia....ogs:_Triad_Wars

There's some screens of it available as well.

As for the new Tomb Raider, could go either way, haven't heard much about it.

This is literally all the info on Wiki about it ->

Sequel

At San Diego Comic-Con 2013, it was announced that comic writer Gail Simone would be continuing the reboot's story in a line of comics published by Dark Horse Comics, and that the story of the comic would lead directly into a sequel.[141] Later, at the beginning of August, Square Enix's Western CEO Phil Rogers confirmed that a sequel to Tomb Raider was being developed for unspecified next-gen consoles.[142] In an interview later that year, Brian Horton, the senior art director for Crystal Dynamics, said that the sequel would tell "the next chapter of [Lara's] development... her life is changing. She can't go back to the way she was."[143]

Aside from the Lego games and Batman (NES), I haven't like any other movie based video games. If there was a trial for Amazing Spider-man though, I would check it out. But $13.50 for a blind purchase tells me I should pass. I liked Shattered Dimensions and Friend or Foe; hated Spider-man 2 (great movie though) and 3 (tried way too hard and became a lame movie).

Looks like I'm safe for this week. Too bad; I was ready to buy Banjo Kazooie.

X-Men Origins: Wolverine... Sorry. Through up in my mouth a little thinking of the movie. Was a great movie video game.

You're absolutely right about all of that, Bobby.  I don't think for a second that all of the "global" game series will be completely canned. (I'm looking forward to the Sleeping Dogs sequel)  I just hope that this focus on more classic style JRPGs will mean a return to something close to the glory days of Squaresoft games.  I miss turn-based RPGs very badly.  I'd love to see some old school FF games, or another in the series of Chrono games.

You didn't like Ghostbusters, the Warriors, Lord of the Rings: Two Towers, Blade Runner Chronicles of Riddick, Scott Pilgrim, Aladdin, the Lion King, Super Star Wars, Star Wars Trilogy, Die Hard Arcade, or Goldeneye?

Well, there's been a kickstarter or two by old Square vets, if that's what you're looking for. You have to remember, most of those greats have moved onto greener pastures from Squeenix. Not sure how many vets Squeenix even has left at this point. But hey, if they can deliver Bravely Default-level quality, all the power to them.

As for the global series, they spent way too much money on buying Eidos to just sit on their IPs, as well. I mean hell, another Kane & Lynch game isn't out of the question for the future. I'm pretty sure Just Cause 3 is on its way as soon as the devs finish up Mad Max.

Wow. Not even trying to argue with you or anything, but that's a first for me. Never heard anyone say they hated Spidey 2's game, even if they didn't love it like most people, and then simultaneously liking Friend or Foe.

You didn't like Chronicles of Riddick, Scott Pilgrim, Super Star Wars, Goldeneye, or the Warriors?
Wouldn't shock me if he didn't like them, since he already said he hated Spidey 2. Surprising, but not impossible.

I think some people are mis-intepreting what Square Enix said. They obviously have way too many of these western franchises to just abandon them. What are they going to do, close off all the studios that do Just Cause, Deus Ex, Tomb Raider, Hitman, etc. All they said is they aren't going to try to "globalize" them anymore, or try to please everyone by focusing so much on "accessibility" for everyone. Which to me sounds like they will let the developers do their thing more - which could possible mean the games will be deeper/more hardcore and less "focus group" tested (i.e. the games will no longer just play themselves... as almost seemed to be happening this gen).

Hopefully when they refer to going "back to their roots" on the JRPG side, we see some more of their old franchises revived - and not just the Final Fantasy rubbish that was going on this gen. I'm totally with you on wanting to see another Chrono Trigger, but there are many other franchises. Or they could just create a new IP the same quality as Bravely Default (but put it on consoles). It's been awhile.

Although for me, I don't necessarily need or want them all to be turn-based. That gameplay mechanic has had it's day, I actually think JRPG's should be more open and entirely real time (i.e. no separate "battle screen"). The problem isn't that they are trying to do quazi real-time combat systems, it's that they are often convoluted and not particularly well done - and still require you to break away from the overworld to go into a "battle screen". It ends up just being more of an annoyance than anything.
