  • You cannot currently buy any Xbox 360 content on xbox.com using your account balance, you can only use an active credit card or PayPal. To use your balance, you must make purchases on your console.  Unfortunately, even "purchasing" free content through the web site like trials requires an alternative method of payment tied to your account, though adding an empty MasterCard / Visa gift card that is registered for online purchases will work.  Xbox One games can be purchased on the web site with your account balance, but DLC cannot.
  • Some sales are intended for Gold subscribers only, as noted within each section.  This requires being a paid subscriber or within a console-activated "1 month complimentary Gold trial" account.  Neither 48 hour trials, 14 day trials nor free weekends qualify.

As a fan of Kinect, Microsoft should put some incentive or something into having companies use Kinect features in their games, I don't really know what they could do that would help but maybe something like advertisement deals or something? At the same time they shouldn't force companies to use it in games where it really has no purpose though.

Having Street Fighter on Xbox 360 for free is going to get people to sign up for gold. That multiplayer aspect is going to be used to the fullest. Is this the same Street Fighter game that was free on Playstation Plus a few years back?

Microsoft really knocked it out of the park this morning.  They took the wind out of a bunch of legitimate complaints (ignoring stupid fanboy ones).  Entertainment apps don't require Live.  XBoxOne with the option of a Kinect-less price drop making it much more attractive.  Not two, but three really good Gold games (and adding One to the mix).

Outside of the silly console 1080p comparisons (which are slowly going away as more games are in parity) there isn't much left to bitch about.  After the revelation that Watch Dogs isn't ZOMG1080p60FPS on the PS4 either it sort of takes the wind out of those sails.

I've been on the cusp of upgrading this Fall for Batman, but will still end up getting the Kinect so my wife can do the Fitness stuff (she is really into the Beachbody workouts).  I like the PS4 as well, but it makes it much easier to get by the wife with a "Hey, you can do your Shaun T workouts using this!" in order to upgrade.

This is great because now the focus can fully shift to the games.

Yes, even being fatigued by zombie games State of Decay won me over, it's probably the best zombie game with character interaction bumping The Walking Dead (not really a video game imo) from that spot IMO. I know The Walking Dead is critically acclaimed but I had more fun playing State of Decay - there's an open-world environment, you'll strengthen or loose relationships with NPCs, you can upgrade your HQ, there's a neat little story to go along with it, and with the DLC Breakdown there's endless amounts of gameplay - as with The Walking Dead most of the time I felt I was watching an interactive movie yet did enjoy the relationships you create with other NPCs in that too.

Wrong, they patched that long time ago, not an issue now.

A heads up to SoD folks, check out our thread on this site, Lifeline expansion is still in the works and looks like an awesome addition (you'll be taking over an abandoned strip mall). If anything I'd say grab SoD now for the anticipation of Lifeline lol, can you tell I'm a fan.

This is interesting and relevant to me. My wife has been spending a lot of time with Shaun T and of course sometimes calling him awful names. So there are Kinect games for that series/line? This might be my own foot in the door to get a XBox One...

 
I guess dreams of an updated Kinect Party are dead now.  What a waste Microsoft.  Why didn't they at minimum update that and a few of the other "kinect only" 360 games and give them away to One owners.

That makes sense since you're only supposed to need one XBL Gold account per Xbox One for multiplayer. On 360, you still need it per account, so they make enough money there that it's not an issue, and they need a way to compete with PS+ on PS3.

Competing with PS+ on PS4 is easy though, since Sony only offers two games a month, MS just has to match that (which they are).

Edit: Biggest news today is that Microsoft is selling Xbox Ones without Kinect.

PS4 only gets one PS+ game per month, PS3 gets 3, and Vita gets 2 in the US. I'm guessing Xbox One will only be one game per month and you guys are just getting a bonus game in June. Hell, the way next gen releases are going, if they gave away two downloadable Xbone games per month they'd be out in 6 months.

That would be fuck ing awesome but I haven't heard anything about that unless it was announced today. I'm just getting to my desk and the Xbone news is flooding everywhere. I still haven't got a chance to check out the Neogaf reaction yet.

 
It's natural they follow the PS+ way in xbox one, they just can't give away +3 year-old games in that platform. Neither a shock Microsoft is changing for the hundreth time their strategy selling a xbox without kinect. Oh, if only Don 'deal with it' Mattrick could see what they are doing with his creature.

Jokes aside, if I were a xbone owner  I'd restrain myself from buying any arcade, since their catalogue is fairly small and two games are free each month. I should apply my own advise since of course I own dark souls and charlie murder (not interested on fighting games). Good games though.

After offering Dark Souls multiple times over the past few months for $5, I guess they had to offer it for free to the 3 people who don't have it already (I am one of the three). Ridiculous!

At least the streak is now over of them offering games I already own. I don't have Dark Souls and my SSFIV copy is not the Arcade edition. So I finally have something to look forward to.

Honestly, I wouldn't even have bought it if it was $1. Why would I deliberately torment myself on what is universally acknowledged as a punishing game? Now that it's free, I will download it, but I will play it offline on my dummy account so it doesn't dirty my game history in case I don't like it. I hate learning you hate a game and can't delete one stupid achievement from it that you didn't mean to unlock in the first place. Grrrrr....

(I am excited to try it out though, just to see what all the hype is about.)

Well I own Dark Souls as a GoD and Charlie Murder. SSFIV I have on disc so I'll download it and might get some more play out of it that way, but fighting games aren't my thing. Charlie Murder is a great game btw. If you don't own it already enjoy the brilliant game.

And yeah it looks like Kinect 2.0 is dead. No big loss really as Microsoft still cannot find a killer app for this thing. I mean recently some executive there was talking about how great it will be to be able to integrate it into watching TV. The novel idea: if you are watching a horror movie and cover your eyes the Kinect will register this and a voice will call out to you to stop covering your eyes. Seriously, this idea was spouted by someone who makes probably 10 times if not more than what I make for a living. Cause that's what we all want our $500 devices to annoy the shit out of us ffs!!! I can't believe that Microsoft has had so much time and money to work out a way of utilizing a product and they still can't get their shit together.

Here's a great kinect game for them. Imagine a top down bullet hell game where you control the ship with your movement and by stretching out your arms you control where you shoot. But you can co-op it too where one guy controls either the movement or the shooting with kinect while the other uses their controller. Seriously why hasn't anyone made this game?

But even so outside of dance games, which we don't have for this system, there's been no decent use of the Kinect at all. Had Microsoft done right they should have had a Kinect Adventures level game and released it lauch with the system to at least try to show people the benefit of the Kinect. Instead they allowed Ubisoft to release a shitty fighting game that worked horribly. And then they released Kinect Sports Rivals of which recycled 2 or 3 sports from their earlier Kinect 1.0 games. I remember living in Toronto when Microsoft rented out a large store downtown to demo the Kinect from 9 AM - 9 PM. I thought it was going to be the most amazing thing. I really was excited for the potential. But no one seems to be able to put their head together and actually do anything with it of any interest. Be warned Oculus Rift folks - the same will happen with you. For a time you will be amazed playing games with this contraption on your head but then after a good while you'll just realize it's easier to just play a game looking at a screen without it strapped to your head and then it will just sit somewhere and collect dust.

Also, what is all this hate for Dark Souls. It's not all that punishing. Just understand that it's not stats but equipment that will get you to defeat difficult enemies, learn how to block and riposte and then every enemy basically becomes easy. It's a game where there isn't much of a tutorial but in an era of online walkthroughs and guides you should be able to familiarize yourself with the world and sort out where you need to go. It's a great game. Yes, you might be frustrated for the first hour or so but other than that you'll enjoy it. Also when you start take the master key as the starting gift

Just play Doodle Jump Kinect.

Kinect 1.0 failed because there was no incentive for developers to develop games for it. It was an accessory that no one bought because it didn't have many good games, because game developers didn't make them since no one bought the accessory. It's a vicious cycle.

Now that Kinect 2.0 is optional, it will suffer the same fate.

Same here, couldn't pull the trigger because the amount of tolerance for this game can be hugely a personal distinguishing factor. Case in point I f'n love Trials and Super Meat Boy because they're challenging but fair yet somebody else could play those games and I could see being very aggravated haha.

I'm glad my backlog helped restrain me from buying too much on the xOne, now that they've started GwG. I hope the Ryse season pass goes on sale again during the June sales, missed it last time, would like to try the new game modes.

How many others consider buying the GoD versions of games when they hit 5$ and sell the disc version you have? I have deus ex and dungeon siege on disc, but being spoiled not having to swap discs has me considering a trade up.

Joking aside, I was interested in trying the game but didn't want to spend money on a game that would frustrate me. Now I can play it for free, knowing I paid nothing for it, and get frustrated without regretting my purchase :razz:

 
So I was really hoping somehow ms would have GWG featuring a selection group of games.  You pick one from the list each month.  At least June will have games I don't own...but as usual...not really interested in them. 

I still say GWG has been a bad idea.  I only buy games I have to play now (even on sale) because I might get it for free later.  Now my backlog will shrink so there is that....

 
Some impressive news. I am planning to go for the X1 around Christmas, so in the meantime I'll likely have a friend start and stop downloads for the free games, so that when I get the Xbox One I'll be swimming in free games. Arcades mostly, sure, but it's a great deal. Impressive lineup for X360 in June as well: already own Dark Souls but it's a good choice, didn't buy Charlie Murder (considered it though) so I'm glad, and while I'm not big on fighting games, any version of Street Fighter IV is good with me, I always wanted to try it out (but didn't want to "waste" money since I am trash at these games - it's "just" a good game, it doesn't have excuses for buying like Injustice having Batman, Dead Or Alive having boobies, Mortal Kombat being gory, etc.). Also I'm a bit disappointed about Kinect failing, I like Kinect albeit I use it very rarely on my X360. It's good to have a choice of getting a cheaper version without it, but it's a shame games won't really be using it. Oh well, this is an interesting day, and the rest of the year sounds pretty impressive. And this is not even E3 yet!

 
Normally i just post random blabber. Buy watching so many post on my main page, made me hope for some sort of huge daily sales. However, all of this is good news. Xbone for 400 seems more atractive, and since i don't think i'll ever stop suscribing to gold it would be nice to finally upgrade, still with all the rumors of Project Beast and being a possible Souls game and more likely a PS4 exclusive i'll be holding my money untill that gets clarified. About these Games with Gold i have mixed feelings, Owned DS on disc, then bought it for $5 just for being such an awesome game, and two days ago while i was driving i was thinking that it will eventually be free. Charlie Murder was on sale not too long ago, so i bit on it and just played it for 5 minutes, it's good but not backlog priorities good. On SSF4 AE, typical Crapcom move, da moneys.. with USF4 right around the corner they will get more to people to hand them 15 bucks.

Happy I didn't jump on dark souls yet though. If there's one game I've been tempted to get at launch and experience online community with, it was dark souls. But the griefing scared me away and the sequel will probably have to wait unless I beat this one and love it.

Play it as soon as you get it, very few games give that feeling of acomplishment as Dark Souls does. The online features are great it's just one of those games you wil never forget and so much replayability value.

Yes it did, however on second thought with DS being free it's gonna bring back to life the online community. And for me that is just heaven. Hell, we should have our own Dark Souls thread once it is free, Fight clubs, co-op, etc.

In fact i feel happy for those Souls that will quit due to many frustrating deaths and even happier for that will expirience the joy of beating Snorlax and Pikachu.

Dark Souls is by far my favorite game, probably ever, definitely this past gen.  I'm not a hardcore gamer by any stretch, and as a father of four, rarely have time for games.  I made time for Dark Souls.  I stayed up all night playing it, knowing that at 5:30 AM I would have to get kids ready for school, go to work, etc...  Fallout 3 was the last game to do that for me, and before that it was Super Metroid.  These kinds of games are few and far between (for me at least).

It is difficult, but it's the best kind of difficult.  I died so many times but loved every minute of it because every death is a learning experience.  It's open enough that if there's a part you can't get past, you can go somewhere else. 

As a plus, playing Dark Souls makes you better at games in general.  I took a break from Witcher 2 to play a little Dark Souls (ended up being about 8 months) but when I went back to W2 I found it much easier, as DS is like the Tao/Kung-Fu master of video games in that it instills patience and patience. 

Anyway,  I loved the game and hope that anyone that hasn't played it will at least try it now that it's free.  If anyone needs any help, hit me up, I still have low level characters I use specifically for helping out.

Its easy as hell to rank up with the new Survival mode. I started at level 37 last night and ended at 62, around 2 hours tops. If anyone needs help ranking up and you have the DLC hit me up at The SCHWARTZ 00 (two zeros). I have a large health bar and like 5 focus capsules. I'll be happy to help slaughter barbarians any time.
 
What everyone opinion on battlestation pacific? I have played the midway one before but years ago and it seem like physical copies of both are outrageous prices now for some odd reason
 
I wonder why they announced all this Xbox news today.  The fact that the Kinectless bundle will be available June 9 screams that it was originally planned as an E3 announcement.  "Xbox One will no longer be bundled with Kinect, and you can start buying this new SKU today in stores across the country".  

Wonder if they were worried it was going to leak or something.

I think it's to get buzz going for them pre-E3 so people will actually watch their presentation instead of avoiding it because of the disappointment last year. At which point, I'm sure they have a number of announcements to "blow people away". They'll probably announce it at E3 as well, so anyone out of the loop will be able to know about it.

Oh and another good thing about Dark Souls being free is that perhaps i will finally get my longed Artorias of the Abyss DLC on sale, hopefully 5 bucks, but i would still pay 7.50.

 
Count me as #4! I held off buying Dark Souls because we got Demon's Souls on PS+ so if I did buy DS1/2 it would have been on PS3.

I already own Charlie Murder and Halo SA but I didn't pay for Halo so I'm okay with that. I'm happy we're getting Max since I really wanted to play it but figured it'd be one of the first free GWG so I held off. That means 3 free games for me for once when counting SFIV. Yay!

Does anyone else feel like we're getting 2 XB1 games as a bonus for June just like SFIV is for 360? I could see them giving out 1 XB1 game per month after that given the small library.

I really love the spiritual Cross Buy with both XB1 titles. Double the achievements! And now I can play coop with friends on 360 who haven't upgraded yet. Very cool. Hopefully they can implement Cross Buy outside of GWG but I won't hold my breath.

I don't really care if all these changes were a response to PS+. We benefit in the end. And that's why competition is healthy. Now we can truly focus on the games :)

Doodle Jump Kinect is a crappy platformer that makes you clap to jump - I'm talking a bullet hell scroller like Ikagura or hell even 1942. Completely different genres and concepts for games.

Kinect 1.0 sold gangbusters. It sold like 8 million units within its first 60 days and in total I think something like 25 million units total. That's amazing for a peripheral. It had or still has the Guiness Book of World Records Title for the "fastest selling consumer electronic device" in history. People bought it the problem is that the titles for it were poor. The only reason I ever use it is to quick save in Skyrim and a few voice functions in games like ME3 and Forza Horizon.

 
I know I've asked this before but does anyone have any clue if 360 users will be able to download the XBone games to their account if they have a gold subscription just in case they do wind up getting the XBone at some point down the line. Will we all be begging various XBone owners to log into our accounts and download them for us on the consoles? What madness will my life become in the coming months?

 
The extra game in June is to celebrate GWG 1 year anniversary. So the XBOne will get 1 game a month most likely after that.

Wow, I don't own one and a half of those GwG games. Since I already own Super Street Fighter IV so I guess this works? I Guess? And I'd rather they had just worked on improving the Kinect and making games for it that are good as opposed tack it on and basically admit they had no fucking idea what they were doing.

 
Great that Xbox One is getting games now.  As far as the 360 I already own Dark Souls and I have no desire to play Street Fighter. I do not have Charlie Murder though so it is not a complete loss.

Doubtful. Their scheme to get people used to the idea of being subscribed for online MP on a Sony console was a success, and they have more units out there, which means they're making more on subs. They're set and them and MS both know it.
