especially since it will likely have the "battle" upgrade at 400 points like the first one did. Nonsense I say!!!

Sega never puts the Sonic games on sale, so that's a disappointing price.

1200 MSP is the price imo, they might release it at 800 MSP and put said dlc for 400 MSP, who the hell knows. Atleast we can say, we now know when the game finally comes out.

About time. I was completely lost interest in achievements hunting for the past year. :D
alone in the dark worth it ?
Stay away from this and Dark Void. Sure they are really cheap now, but the question is -do you want to play awful games?

I bought only PoP. Most of these games are regional locked for my country.

Alone in the Dark was 1.99 at gamestop at one time. That is the price tag I have on my copy and I stopped playing it after about 20 minutes and never touched it again.

thanks for all the alone in the dark responses! i was on the fence, but will stay away from it and dark void now. only considering tornado turd now...

I must be weird, I actually really enjoyed Alone in the Dark. I recommend it and Kameo.

I went ahead and got Cloudy With The Chance Of Meatballs, Meet The Robinsons, Open Season, Surfs Up, Prince of Persia, Bolt and Sonic CD.

On the fence with Conan and Tornado Outbreak.

Conan's pretty fun, albeit a by-the-books brawler/action game. Nothing too snazzy but I enjoyed it enough to finish it if that means anything.

Honestly, you're probably better off using the money to run up to Gaemstop's bargin bin for the Condemned series, Lost Planet 1 or Dark Sector.
*Achievement Rewards*
Now THIS is interesting!
It'll probably be like earn achievements in a game's first week of release or something else ridiculous.

It sounds like it'll be like playxbla.com where they list achievements for specific games they want you to get for that week and they'll give you a free XBLA game thereafter.

I don't see anyone talking about getting GRAW. I've never played it (and won't now) but my son is older now and into FPS games and I think he might like it. It has great reviews, but of course those are tempered by the fact that they are early 360 reviews (when there was much less to compare it to). Any thoughts on how it might hold up today?

Edit: My son just came in here to see the list. He also wants Blazing Angels. Any thoughts on that? The thing is, I probably have that game somewhere in my piles and piles of cheap backlog games. It is probably worth 400 MSP not to have to search through all those though ;).
Depends if he's into tactical third-person shooters that aren't much like the FPS' of today. There's a demo so he can try it out first.
Heh - I didn't even realize it was a TPS. I just assume all shooters are FPS. I don't care for either much myself. Yeah, I suppose he could try the demos for both of those (probably). He probably won't want to wait for the download and try the demo though - he'll just want me to get the games.
I also liked Alone in the Dark very much.
I really liked it to. Its an odd game worth 5 its kinda hard but i enjoyed it thinking about replaying it

I think there's a first-person mode, but it doesn't really change the gameplay much.
So, Perfect Dark Zero or Dark Void?
My local Gamestop had Perfect Dark Zero for $1.99. Dark Void was $5.99.

Personally I'm going to get Dark Void , despite the general disdain for it. I enjoyed the demo. I'm on the fence with Price of Persia: The Forgotten Sands and Blazing Angels. Will see how I feel at the end of the week. Everything else is a pass based on a lack of attraction and the fact that there's enough games in my backlog to keep me busy for a long while.

I was bummed that Bionic Commando was dropped from the list, but I ended up just getting it at Gamestop this evening for about the same price.

I have both GRAW and Blazing Angels.

GRAW doesn't hold up well to today mainly because its framerate tanks in a lot of places. You expect a shooter to stay close to 30 fps if possible but there are times that GRAW just really bogs down like no modern shooter. It's also mostly in the 3rd person perspective. It's the framerate problem that makes the controls kind of bad. If your son is used to playing games like Halo or CoD or Gears of War, it's kind of a step back in time to play with GRAW. Those other games have very tight and good controls. GRAW, not so much.

If it wasn't for the framerate problem, it'd actually be pretty good. And if you get the DLC, it's even better but the DLC is more expensive than the game at this point! But for a $5, it has a lot of content and is pretty fun (you just have to manage the framerate problems).

Blazing Angels does have co-op, both online and system link (and maybe even splitscreen???). I picked up a pair of used copies at Gamestop a few months ago (for $10 each) for some system link co-op play. But it's very easy to get separated from your friends and they end up looking like dots on the horizon. also, it's a semirealistic flight sim so if you want arcade dogfights that are in your face all the time, go with Snoopy Flying Ace or if you want modern jets, go with Ace Combat Assault Horizon.

Me personally, I'm getting Conan and Prince of Persia. And I may bite on Kameo.

hey! I just read this is Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands, not Prince of Persia!!! argh. maybe that's no longer a purchase. I'll read reviews and decide... argh

From what Ive palyed so far, the Forgotten Sands plays just like the classic ps2 PoP games. Ive paid 400 MSP for far dumber things, so to get a full game with a theme, and other unlockables and a doable 1000 GS is great for me.
Since we discussed Virtual-On Force a while back, here's my new Virtual-On Force review.
Pretty solid review. I would have probably discussed the awkward control scheme a little more. I think the vast majority of players out there will find the game confusing and frustrating due to the bizarre nature of the controls. Although the flip side of that coin is that (I'd wager) the only people that would bother to read a review of a Virtual-On game are already well aware of its control scheme.

I honestly would probably have recommended this more to fans of the franchise. It's not harder to get into than any of the other games necessarily, but given that VOOT can be had for 1200 msp on XBLA I would have mentioned it as a better place to get a taste of the franchise for newcomers.

Just some thoughts.

On that note, if anyone does get the game and wants to play some MP hit me up, I'm going to have a look at the achievements and see if I can reasonably 100% it.

I just purchased two games, Conan and Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands, which I would normally have not considered purchasing. It is scary what I would do if they actually have good games (other than GRAW which I already got on my old Xbox) @ 75% off in the future.

why... what would you do? :whistle2:k

what time do the new arcade games usually come up? I once woke up at around 5 am for the moon dlc on black ops (Pretty Crazy Right?), so would it be around that time area?

Thanks... Yeah, he plays Halo Reach all the time so he would probably be expecting too much from it. I'll definitely get him to play the demo first. I mean, it's only 400 MS space bucks, but I'd rather not waste the time to download it if he isn't going to like it. And he has played Ace Combat Assault Horizon (thanks to Target clearance!) so he's probably expecting Blazing Angels to be like that.

I get the PoP games all confused. I got a platinum on one of them which was super-hard - there was this 23-hit (or thereabouts) combo you had to nail exactly. Then I got another PoP (Forgotten Sands maybe?) when Best Buy had it super cheap ($15 - when it was still $40-$60 everywhere else). Never played that one - I'm thinking that is the same as the one on sale here (I mean yes, this is Forgotten Sands but I'm not sure if the one I bought before is).

If I didn't already have it that would be my sure-fire buy from this sale given that it actually isn't that old of a game. I also already have most (if not all) of those kids' games on either 360 or PS3. In fact, I still have Surf's Up and Open Season still sealed. My kids have kind of outgrown them and this sale pretty much ruins any chance I had of selling them - so, thanks, MS, for tanking the values of games in my backlog! This sale will actually cost me money even if I don't buy anything ;). (And yeah, FWIW, Open Season was actually selling for $30-ish or so a few weeks ago when I checked).

PoP '08 had a 14-hit combo that you could do on one boss, and one boss alone, and required precise timing. But it was cool since you could break it up into 3 segments and pause after each segment without penalty :)

My brother has a copy of Sega Tennis, but I wouldn't recommend it. So for me, it's down to Prince of Persia: TFS or Kameo.

Darn. I was hoping once I hit my 100k goal by the fall, I would take a break and catch up on my wii/3ds backlog. So much for that idea it appears.
Picked up Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatball.Does anyone know if GRAW has Co-op (campaign) me and a couple buddies are looking for a good coop game in this sale and thats the one that we might get.
GRAW doesn't have campaign co-op but it does have lots of separate co-op game types that support any combination of split-screen and online players.

Also, I disagree with Dirtyvu about the game's graphics being sub-par today. Sure it has framerate dips at times (like many games), but the visuals are still very solid. I liked it a lot back in the day, and it's also a good way to prepare for Ghost Recon Future Soldier.
Pretty solid review. I would have probably discussed the awkward control scheme a little more. Thanks for the feedback! In hindsight, recommending people try the XBLA game first wouldn't have been a bad idea. As for the other points, basically I had to stay within a certain word count, and so I focused on the multiplayer and importability aspects. Also mentioned Achievements a few times because a lot of Achievement hunters are into importing Japanese games - probably more than in the non-Achievement-hunting community. Wish I had room to be more comprehensive though, as that's definitely more my style.

These games on demands sales are great. Full retail games for $5 even if it's old. Hopefully MS continues to do this at least 3-4 times a year.

I've been trying to sell off my physical games collection to only a dozen or so that I want to keep since I don't like having loads of games sitting on a shelf. Not good for home decor.

If anyone is interested in a party game, Viva Pinata is pretty good. It's loud and has great humor and controls well. It's also good for kids since the controls are usually only 1 or 2 buttons.

I think the answer to my question is yes but just wanted to check if anyone knows for sure. I'm thinking about buying a couple of these GoD games but I probably only got room on my hard drive for 1 at a time. Can you purchase these now but download them at a later time?

You have a word limit? That certainly explains the brevity of the article. It seemed like you were skimming a lot, now I know it's due to limitations. Why in the age of the internet and the ability for text to go on infinitely vs. print do you have limitations? I'll never understand why articles have more than one page when you could just keep going.

I've always assumed it was a "cash grab" for more clicks on bigger websites. Remember when IGN articles were one page? Now they just post lists with one or two things on each page. Annoying!

Yes as long as xbox live is still up. Even if they took down the game you still could in your rrecord of downloaded stuff

Yeah, just like anything else you buy you can either download or re-download from your download history at anytime even if the item is de-listed, or the marketplace as long as it's still available.

Yeah, we're supposed to keep it to 1200 words. (It's not written in stone, but I've gotten fussed at for going on too long before, such as with my Fusion: Genesis review.) Apparently if you go much longer, you can't count on people to read the whole thing. It's silly that people would be that way, but I don't doubt it's true. I personally will read an article of any length if it maintains my interest, but I won't say I've never given up on one that lost me along the way.
Please, please be retroactive!
There'd be a HUGE shitstorm if it wasn't. Though honestly it wouldn't surprise me since activate Netflix and first marketplace purchase aren't.

I'm at 62,708 gamerscore with 3.353 achievements at the moment, and by fall I'll probably be around 70,000 so I hope the prizes are good, or at least have choices. I don't want to get a bunch of free games I already own. All the stats Xbox Rewards show that the average gamerscore is less that 10,000 and achievement count is only a few hundred so I think those of us who play a lot will do well if it's based on that at all.

Xbox Live Rewards as a whole was built around not giving rewards retroactively.

PoP: Forgotten Sands is a solid game. It's not spectacular and really changes up the basic controls and methods a lot so if you're marathonning the PoP series like I did, there's a bit of a culture shock. But still, it's good fun. Decent quality.

Yeah, it's kind of ridiculous that I earned more in the short beta than is normally possible in several months, and that my bullshit old account was offered 800 free points just for signing up recently. Aside from that glitch a few months back, I've only earned 700 something points and I buy a ton of games and DLC.

I think your expectations are way too high. I don't see a lot more than 100msp being given away per month, and I think they'll be tied to earning certain achievements in certain games, a la what PlayXBLA has been doing with the Weekend Cheeve Challenge.
