He probably just forgot to switch that price in his post though, either way I would still suggest waiting till later in the day or tomorrow to see if it does
It's a 75% off sale (73% for $14.99 games). It only makes sense for it to be $3.99 if it's a $14.99 game. If he forgot to change the price to $19.99 then $4.99 is the correct price.

The op doesn't list Tornado Outbreak, and that is on sale for $4.99

Is Dark Void worth $5, or is that as bad as people said? I liked the 2D game they released on DSiWare.

Just going by what Major Nelson posted, although he was already wrong but still, also the pages on the dashboard for the sale don't list Meet The Robinsons but if you look it up it is $5

I suggest trying the demo. From what I remember it shows off the various parts of the game and should give you a decent idea of how it plays. I didn't like the vertical combat or the shooting in general. The flying was fine, but I'd honestly rather just replay Crimson Skies.

For anyone interested in the 2D game Dark Void Zero who doesn't have a DSi, you can play it for free using GamersGate's VOID service. System requirements are pretty low. link
Red Dead Redemption is an absolute steal at 1200 MSP. If I hadn't already completed it long ago I'd buy it.
I have almost all of the achievements and bought it at this price. RDR is amazing
Woohoo. Time to turn my 100k gamerscore into one of those new Microsoft tablets.
Or 80 MSP. It'll be 80 MSP.
Even better, they'll give us a special VIP badge!

most of you seem to be picking up tornado outbreak

is it a good game or do you guys just like cheap games? ign gave it an 8 but everybody else gave it a 6 or below

The tutorial level seemed like the gameplay would be fun. It did remind me of the Katamari games.

This is awesome, I was going to pick up Sonic CD and Sonic 2 yesterday when I bought a points card but decided to wait a day for the DOTW. Sure am glad I did.

Sonic CD for 200 points is fantastic.:applause:
Guess I might buy PoP since it trades to BBY for $8.40 right now.
You can't trade digital downloads. Even Best Buy are not that dumb.
Damn Bionic Commando is still showing 19.99 and its one of the main games I was looking forward to.

I'll get Bionic Commando if it ever updates. Maybe Facebreaker but probably not since they closed the online servers.
Bionic commando will not be part of this sale. I wouldn't hold my breath.

Hmm probably getting PoP:TFS and Cloudy with a chance of Meatballs...I like some fun games between all the blood and gore =P lol

What about Surf's Up and Bolt? Any opinions? ôo

Im sure he already has a physical copy that he'll be trading in and the picking up the digital version.

There are demos for both. Bolt seemed like the worst of the two. It's a God of War clone for kids, but I couldn't figure out what to do in the demo's second level and got stuck before quitting. Surf's Up is kind of like Tony Hawk 1/2/3 meets SSX with specific goals you need to meet for each level while constantly advancing on the course.

Thanks for pointing this out. If the TIV holds, I'll be trading my copy in later this evening.

Agreed on all points. The Bolt demo was really pretty bad, and Surf's Up was ok, it had a real Tony Hawk-lite feel to it.

PoP must be one hellva game to want to keep a digital copy of it after you've had it on physical media for a while just to make $3 or so.

Well there are no demos on the german marketplace, we don't even have all the games listed on our demand service lol (wanted to get lego pirates of the carribean but it wasn't even on demand here the last time the price dropped)...but anyway thx for the reply..probably will stick with the two already mentioned...

I gave details on all the kids games pages ago. Sigh.

But yes, agree with your Surf's Up / SSX comparison.

Wouldn't say the same for Bolt, but with a reach I guess it works. Most games try to incorporate QTE now, so it's par for the course now.
Actually you didn't. You gave it in a different thread. :)
I stand corrected. Seriously, swore that thread was this one. Especially since this is the one I regularly post in. Since it keeps being asked:

I have no five year old, but have played all of these games. Honestly, I enjoyed Surf's Up the most. Outside of the time trial stuff you can get to from the menu (which for achievements I remember being a little annoying), the game is a fun play through. I think my comments at the time were like a platforming style SSX Tricky for kids. A fun, generally easy romp. Other adult friends of mine played it (ones who would seldom play these types of games) and liked it. If she got into the demo, she'd probably like the game as a whole.

Bolt was a definite number two. Lots of platforming, but once Bolt gets some of his powerups it's a little easier. Completed the story without issue (though some of the boss battles had to be replayed, etc.) but never 100%'d it. You get to play as various characters from the game, iirc. There is lots of platforming, but like most Disney/movie games, decent checkpoints. Not as friendly as some of the others with them though (It's no Up, that's for sure...)

Meet The Robinsons was the next one I remember enjoying. I never did get the one missing component to complete the game though (and trust me, it bothers me quite a bit). It's a fun plaformer with varying degrees of difficultly. Might be a little too annoying for a five year old. This one I remember being a little easier to play than Bolt. There are puzzles in this, but it is designed for kids.

Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs / Open Season are two relatively simple, 1000/1000 games and story modes. Both feature optional collectibles (which would be the most difficult part of both). Honestly, for mindless fun they were there. Both are platformers with limited peril (in that dying isn't a big deal). For a kid or an adult looking for a decent playthrough to complete a game, not a bad deal.

....

Tornado Outbreak is a different game. I'm not sure what it wants to be. The story is... meh. Since it's not tied to a property, this makes it a little less forgivable, especially if you're trying to get a kid into it. I didn't finish this one, but it was fine for what it was and I imagine I'll go back to try to complete it later.

Tanuki - I definitely get what you mean, but I really didn't get that feeling when I played. Not that your assessment is invalid, I just personally didn't take it as too different from every other platformer/action style game I've played this gen or last. It was fun though.

Can't speak for him, but from my standpoint, why not? I'm going to BB anyway to grab Deadliest Warrior. I haven't played PoP FS yet (I bought it for $20 before I was a CAG and thought that was a good deal) but might as well make $3.40 on it (more if you factor in that I didn't pay full price on my MS points).
I stand corrected. Seriously, swore that thread was this one. Especially since this is the one I regularly post in. Since it keeps being asked:
Thanks, it was a good read. I played Toy Story 3 and thought the platforming was pretty competent. Are any of these games as good as the story portion of Toy Story 3?
Thanks, it was a good read. I played Toy Story 3 and thought the platforming was pretty competent. Are any of these games as good as the story portion of Toy Story 3?
Honestly, I am slacking in some of my kid-friendly movie tie ins and have yet to play my copies of Toy Story 3, Kung Fu Panda 2, and a few others in the last 18 months. Mostly because TS3 took forever to get to about $12, which is generally what I allow myself to pay for movie-tie in/kids tv show games.

If you liked the Meet The Robinsons and Bolt movies, you'll find the story modes there to be relatively fun. They're definitely on par or above the genre. Bolt works more as if the series from the movie is real and that makes for a much more enjoyable video game than a game about a dog with no powers who thinks he has powers.

Surf's Up, while the one I felt I'd recommend even to adult friends who liked fun, I don't really recall much of the story. It's just a fun game. I saw the film after, but it didn't really play a role in my memory of this (I generally get mocked for how much I remember, so...)

Cloudy had more story than Surf's Up. I have still yet to see the film outside of bits and pieces when it airs on Cartoon Network. Cloudy is also a pretty clear copy of the movie story. It's a perfectly fine plaformer, not really as much of an action game as Bolt. A buddy of mine who is obsessed with the film reminded me that I told him he might like the game since it was relatively fun for a kid's/family/movie game and his liking of the film/book but never playing kiddie games.

Open Season has a lot of story and cut scenes for two voices that are clearly not Ashton Kutcher and Martin Lawrence. They're not even good copy cats like the Shrek games have the fake Mike Meyers. It was pretty distracting (despite not yet seeing the movie at the time), but this game was fun.

None of these are story-wise as painful as Night At The Museum II, so I think you'll be okay. Another I thought was pretty fun but not in the sale was MEGAMIND. Up was fine, but lower grade than MTR/Bolt/Surf's Up. Wall*E I just couldn't get too far into before moving on to something else and Shrek 3 I need to go back and finish. Shrek 4 was a relatively fun ride.

Feel free to verify that a grown adult without children has completed these games FOR FUN by checking my gamercard. My wife will appreciate the support. ;-)

^Thanks for this, good info. And I'm a sucker for licensed games like these as well. Sometimes they can be a nice break from some of the heavier and more difficult games.

I have a fondness for platformers and action games. Realistically, outside of cartoon and movie based games, the only platformer-y games that still get made anymore are Mario and, if I'm lucky, a Crash Bandicoot or Sonic game.

And yes, I sort of use these as downtime games. A fun/quick diversion I expect nothing major from. Like bubblegum summer cinema. Sometimes they surprise me. Usually they do not, but if the ride was at least fun, all the more special. That also doesn't mean I don't irrationally hate some of them. (W00t double negative~!)

Jackie - Sonic CD for 200 is a steal. Episode 1 has been 400pts in the past, but I can't imagine it'll drop below that given how often there is a Sega/Sonic sale and it stays at that level.

Gotcha. I'm not saying it's a full clone, but if I had to make a comparison, that would be the one. The feel of the combat and the finishing moves made it readily apparent pretty quickly, though it lacks the depth of the combat or the right stick dodge from what I played in the demo. I'd list a number of other games above it in terms of how closely they mirror the mechanics.

So far, I picked up Kameo and Tornado Outbreak, though I may pick up another game or two. I really like being able to just pay cash for these games and not have the extra layer of paying for points and then using the points to buy the game, so I hope they finally open up that option to everything else even though it's been three years with no change so far.
Wow, Sonic CD is effin' MINE. 200 points is outstanding.

I might even consider Episode 1 at 400 points. I can't see it getting any cheaper than that.
Just in case either of you guys have a time machine, Sonic 4 Ep. 1 was 320 msp during the holiday sales.

It's been heavily rumored that MS is looking to phase out the MSP system entirely, possibly sooner rather than later. Here's hoping for some truth to that rumor.

Totally forgot about the 320 sale then. Should have validated with XBLDB before opening my mouth. 0/2 today as well. D'oh.

I grabbed it the first time it was 400 and games at $10 don't often dip below 400.

Nooooooooo. Oh, hell no. Let's not dig up this discussion again.

But, if you must, bring it to the Xbox Games on Demand sale thread. It's already a full-frontal trainwreck of off-topic, philosophical gaming debates.

That goddamn Points rumor is friggin months old and once more it's from a mobile games site no one has heard of. WHY does anyone give a fuck?

ANYWAYS...

Got Sonic CD and Sonic 4: Episode 1 (meh, why not). GoD wise I got Tornado Outbreak though I'm debating Kameo. Only thing that's stopping me from Kameo is I HATE Rare's nonstop collecting of useless crap to pad it out. That was one thing from the PS1 and N64 days that I'm glad majority of games have phased out.

Black Ops is 25% off, with a price tag of $38. Way too much, but it seems like MS is putting a new game on sale every week. Hopefully this turns into a weekly thing, and more $20 games become $15.

Think I'm going to grab Kameo for now. I had it a long ass time ago and only played it for a hour or so, no idea where the copy I had went. May pick up a couple more before the sale ends.
PoP must be one hellva game to want to keep a digital copy of it after you've had it on physical media for a while just to make $3 or so.
Well on the BBY trade thread I have talked Ad nauseam about the number of middle tier games $4-8 that I have in my backlog that I want to play but the TIV is too good at BBY to pass up. I am trying to play through as many of them this month to trade in and now with PoP:FS getting this sale I can still keep the game but at least get a bit back. I can now wait to play it later. It actually saves me a little more than $3.40 because my points cost about 60% of actual value. So by my math the game cost me $10 originally + $3 to buy digitally - $8.40 in BBY trade = $4.60 to keep the digital copy that I can play whenever. It is a not a great deal but it allows me to clear a different game on my trade list this month so it is worth it.

Unless the demo and achievements are not representative of the game, it doesn't have any collectibles, so I don't know why you'd refuse to buy it for that reason unless you're punishing them for past mistakes.

So Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs is a pretty fun platformer to play with your kids. Totally worth 400 points. You can control the main character and if your son/daughter dies or falls behind they just warp their character to you.
