Games, betas, demos, updates ect. Don't cause rrod & e74 errors. It's just a coincidence that frisky caught the e74 from hw.
I had purchased a brand new 360 (Final Fantasy 13 bundle) and enrolled in one of the previous betas. It was the one before the special disc of Halo: Reach was sent out, the Kinect dashboard one.
It made me update every single time I turned it on and blew during one of the updates with an E79 RROD. It had less than 50 hours of playtime in a well-ventilated and cool room. I respect the opinions of others, but don't try to dispel what you cannot debunk. I blogged about the incident if anyone cares to scrutinize the details. They did nothing for me and only because it was new and in warranty did they fix it. They sent back an arcade in place of an elite unit, with glitched firmware that thought even legit discs were pirated which it refused to play.
Also, games can break consoles as well.
Edit: I will not play into a straw man or solipsist argument, dirtyvu. I know I witnessed the Kinect beta forums flooded with dozens of statements of the specific issues I referred to. They even went so far as to give reparations to a select few, with new consoles and gold subscriptions. I don't trust the source, but even Kotaku picked it up. Sure, it's just my cute anecdote.
