XBLA - Castlevania: Harmony of Despair

I'll be on tonight but not til after work lets out. I agree on the party chat thing though, it helped to have people to joke around with so you forget about the grind a bit. I'd like to stay with the group and keep playing and making progress too if that's okay. I have beaten 1-6 normal solo and on hard with a similarly geared group so hopefully I can contribute some. I need that gear! Especially the boots that make you move faster!
 
Wow, lots of activity here since last night.

Yeah, I never cared for using the mic with randoms before too, but gathering a group through the boards like this, it's definitely benefited all those involved that have mics as we've been leveling together.

For example, I forget who it was, but someone in our party wanted to know if you (Jaskull) wanted the achievement for 5 of us being dead when we kill the boss, or beating one with a dual crush. We didn't know if you did as you didn't have a mic. It's like smiff said, we're all cool on here, and we're just trying to have fun together.

KG is right about the 90% of scrubs out there that mis-use the mic. But that's what the Mute button is for. :) Oh, and KG, do yourself a favor and get Chapter 7! We found a wicked shortcut thanks to Collin last night. Found him on the gamefaqs board, pretty cool dude. Oh, and Smiff, found "The Brief Chef" on CAG too. haha.

Oh, and Yeah we talked about Sega Saturn which is when I mentioned bomberman (that has the best bomberman experience) and the XBLA one is okay. I'll check out that Indie game too.
 
I say we play some survival mode tonight. I really need to level up Fuma's subweapons and I'm sure everyone else could get some decent leveling done. Oh and since 300 MSP of rewards just dropped in my account I'm thinking of getting either Richter or Julius. Any opinions?

They both have all of the same subweapons. Julius has a longer omni-directional whip and a teleport style move. Richter has his martial arts, like the uppercut and slide kick. Richter's kicks also move him around the map quicker as well. He's really fun to use. I'd go with him.

Martial arts and mobility sounds like what I'm looking for. Do you find more people using Richter than Julius? I'd like to see as few Axe Knights as possible ;)
 
Oops, sorry about that. I didn't know you guys were trying to talk to me specifically. Like I said, it certainly wasn't anything personal. I can tell that you're all good guys but it's just an old habit I guess. I'll probably be on tonight and maybe I'll set up the mic. :)
 
I just had a FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU moment.

I had just beaten the 2nd level boss, and not paying attention, I walked right into an Iron Maiden, killing me before opening the chest to end the level.

Ha, that sounds like what we did a few nights ago. We had beaten the whole stage and the gold chest was ours for the taking.

I won't say what happened next, but lets just say we weren't keeping track of the time... :drool:
 
Any body want to add me for a group? I don't have a mic but I can listen with the music turned way down. I'm relatively new to the game and I need the fast boots as I'm super slow when I play online. Let me know.

That was a hilarious moment. We all went "Aw, wait, what? We didn't even get the chest!"

Usually the clock is such a non factor in the levels you're farming that you don't even think about it, but I think we were doing the 5 skeleton achievement for someone and I guess the skeletons mustve died too much. Still hilarious.

On topic, I'll be on to play some in about 30-45 minutes and will look for you guys.

Lots of fun playing with Chrono, bsmiff, and the gang again last night. Thanks for going back to try to finish up 5 and 6 with me. We failed on our 6 attempt with only 3 or 4 players but I'll be back on tonight and/or tomorrow if you don't mind trying again. I'm glad I ended up using the mic. :)

I tried soloing Chapter 3 for the first time, but I ran out time because I spent several minutes cranking the hammer not knowing what it would do. Or how to get to the boss, and then I kept attacking its feet, only rarely getting a hit on the knee. Oh well.

I think that I would be stuck on the same things if not for the help of some of these better players. As I was explaining last night I don't think I've played an RPG-style game since Secret of Mana (although I guess Mario & Luigi might count) so a lot of the stat issues are kind of lost on me.

I don't know if I will ever get burned out of this game (I probably will eventually though...)

I tried Hard Corps: Uprising and even Moon Diver, and while both of those games have appeal, neither is as polished nor replayable as this one (Hard Corps comes close).

If you have enough people, then the people that start on the left open the gates for the people on the right. The people on the right turn on the elevator to get to Astarte. As far as Astarte goes, if you have a whip user with a maxed out r. Fire bomb, spam that. Alucards and Somas should consider using a different weapon than the standard Valmanway for Astarte, since she's resistant to slashing.

Winged Boots have the highest drop rate in Chapter 10, if I recall. It's been a while since I played though.

From what I understand, Winged Boots don't drop in Chapter 10 at all. Feather Boots and Retro Boots drop from the boss chest on hard, Mercury Boots on normal.

Chapter 7 is your best bet for Winged Boots, especially if you know how to operate the elevator and you've got someone who can kick Astarte's ass quickly in your party.

I'm down for playing tomorrow whenever! I need to hit up Survival mode some more to level up my Fuma if anyone's down.
 
My bad. I should shut up until I play again and get a good look at my inventory. I must have gotten Winged Boots on Chapter 8.

Got some survival grindage done this morning with grizzlebo, now I'm on the hunt for a Thief Ring, Fuma's gear, and a stinkin' Valmanway. Once I get back from the bowling alley I'm gonna jump online if anyone wants to play.
 
I also made some progress and found a few more of my subweapons on my own(kunai, shrunken, wrecking ball) and found a pair of mercury boots(though I guess they aren't that great? They say they make me move faster.) I will be on lots tonight late and next week to play more with the group, would love to make some progress on the dlc / hard stages. Hope you guys have a spot for me!

Definitely man. Don't know how late I'll be on tonight but I am on right now. This game is so dang addicting.

Finally bit the bullet and bought Ch. 7 full price... ouch, lol. Time to get those boots. I'll look for you a little later EZ and you can show me some of your Ch. 7 skills :)

One thing is for sure... we got to get Jaskull an Astral Ring. ;)

Yes, please! Thanks for your help tonight KG and dew for finally getting through Dracula and for the super-sub-weapon trick. I haven't been able to put in as much time as I'd like to lately (having our first child due in 3 weeks might have something to do with it) but I appreciate you being patient with a noob like myself.

I might put in some time this week with some random hard matches to try to pick up some decent equipment like the ring. Lots of fun, as always.

If anyone else needs the dual crush achivement maybe we can get some quick 2-player matches on normal level 1 to do it.

I still need the dual crush achievement if you want to do it, just let me know sometime you see me on and we can get it real quick on normal.

Got an Astral Ring myself the other night. What's the super sub weapon trick, sounds like something I could use to help get my Jonathan up to speed as well!

Definitely, I'll drop you an invite or vice-versa when we're online together next. We can probably just do non-stop dual crushes once he drops through the floor unless you know a better indicator of when he's low on health on the bottom level.

We were using the sub weapon trick for survival mode to try to level them quickly. Basically, you set your desired sub weapon to down-B (I used the knife for Jonathan) and then you alternate between down-B and LB as quickly as you can so you do a little slide between shots. You can shoot out tons of them that way.

My problem was running out of MP constantly with my lack of astral ring. I guess the ring allows you to substitute your MP with HP and since you just respawn automatically on survival mode it doesn't matter how often you die.

Finally got my Winged Boots last night on my 21st victory on Ch. 7. I can finally keep up with you guys now ;)

Now if I could just track down a Valmanway....

Been meaning to post again in this thread for the last few days but have been busy. I'm up for joining in any games. I've been playing again since it went on sale. Currently my Shanoa and Charlotte are the only two characters pretty far along , Soma , Alucard , Johnathan and Fuma all are pretty weak. Pretty much any stage is fine since I'm still missing a lot of rare gear. Need a few of the achievements too.

Probably won't be playing really late tonight since I have work early tomorrow but I'll be available most of the day after that and really late wednesday.

Sent friend requests out to a few of the people here , but not everyone. Anyone who's interested feel free to add me.
 
I'm all good to join y'all.

Ever since I survival grinded with nah dew, I've enjoyed spending more time with Jonathan than Soma. And it's starting to feel more like when I played the Castlevania games on the GBA, since I don't remember using the creatures all that often.
 
Knave, thanks for knocking out the dual crush tonight. Maybe tomorrow or Wednesday we can get the slide one, too, if you still need it by then.

My plan right now is to go through Hard mode on 1-6 and I finished 1 tonight with a random XBL match. If anyone needs those matches feel free to let me know and we'll set something up.

StarKnight, I'll send you a request tomorrow. :)
