XBLA - Duke Nukem 3D - 800pts - 8 Player Co-Op
Please see post #12 (http://www.cheapassgamer.com/forums/showpost.php?p=4772136&postcount=12)

I would really like ROTT (although, these older games seem to have lost their luster after the years go by). I still will take a shot on Duke Nukem
Right on I didn't even notice you posted that.

Yeah nostalgia plays a part in it, but you don't have wacky games like that anymore really. I'd still be interested in a ROTT XBLA experience.
I don't get the hype for this game. It doesn't look interesting at all to me.
Might have been a tad bit young there whippersnapper. And hence the generation to thank for 3d Castlevania games. :)
Wow. Duke Nukem just pwned Megaman like a little bitch... aka the only reason MM was delayed to XBLA?
But Mega Man really does have...wait for it...wait for it...
Balls of Steel

Damn. The 80 year olds of CAG are ganging up on me. :whistle2:( I don't get the last sentence though, why am I to blame and not Igarashi for being a moron?

That still doesn't explain what is supposed to be so good about the game that it's getting all of this hype. Great gameplay? Great graphics? Great story? Or is the game that bad that only those that played it when it first came could enjoy it now?

Great old style FPS gameplay. Some hilarious and creative weapons like laser trip mines and a shrink ray. Neat levels that were unique at the time because they approximated actual realistic settings as opposed to dark, sinister corridors. I could go on and on.

I don't get this age BS, i'm 24 and played Duke lots back in the day. It was a good game for it's time, along with the doom series and quake series, hasn't aged extremely well.

I dunno if this was already asked but it is the Atomic Edition? or just the regular version?

Either way, I'll have to play the demo to see if there is more then nostalgia that makes me want to get this.

I looked at the achievements and it's got some of the levels that are in the Atomic Edition listed for completion. So I'm figuring it is.

so its going to be 800 points. hmmm to get it or not to get it. Though its the only thing listed, I hope something else pops up on Wednesday

I got it and tried it out a bit before work. I love the controls in a single player setting, but the multiplayer is too floaty in this day and age. Single player kicks ass though.

So wait, how are the controls? Do you walk and turn with just the one joystick, or is it updated to be more like new FPSes and use 2 joysticks?

I'd try it myself but I won't be home 'til around 4 :bomb:

It's dual analog. You can aim up, down, diagonally, with the right analog just like any other console FPS.

I dunno yet, I only played the first 1 1/2 levels this morning. It was a blast though. I forgot so many of Duke's quotes and hearing them again was awesome.

"Your face, your ass, what's the difference?" and "I don't have time to play with myself." were especially welcome.

The only issue I can see people having is the autoaim function. You kind of need it to deal with the many flying enemies. It feels closer to the PC original if you leave it on but I know tons of people hate using autoaim anything.
no, the multiplayer is online only. Feel free to add me if you want co-op or multiplayer
Oh well...would have been nice, but I'm going to buy it anyways.

As a purely single-player expereince whish is better; this or Doom? I'm leaning towards Doom as it's only $5, but haven't played more than the demos of either.

In terms of single player, I enjoy Duke more. It's really just personal preference, though. That, and Doom is a MUCH simpler game in terms of... everything: visuals, controls, etc.

That said, I find it hard to review games like this. How do you even begin to describe Duke Nukem to someone who has never played it? I mean, I love love love love it, but I'd never recommend it to anyone who wasn't old enough to appreciate the 'simpler' ;) times in gaming. Duke is fueled by nostalgia.... and that's pretty much the best review one can give. If you've played it before, it's just as great as you remember it being... if you haven't, then you'll likely be unhappy you spent the 800 points.

Just my take.

Where is the red key card in the second level?

edit: never mind, found it.

Has anyone been able to get past Level 4, Episode 1?
I'm stuck on the part where Duke gets shrunk down. I cannot make it through the passageway at all without getting smashed (when he grows back to normal size). Is there any way to make him run faster when shrunk?

I remember playing this game on my elder brothers PC when I was 10 or 11. Used to love tipping the dancers :D

I'm worried I might do an impulse purchase.

Click in the right thumbstick.

So far I am enjoying this game a lot. Saves me from trying to install on XP.

It would be cool to see Duke running on the Quake III engine though for true 3D. Either way, I'm loving the single player.
