[XBLA] - Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light - 1200 Points - Out Now!

Lol with my satellite "broadband" it took me all day to download the game. Started the download Wed, my day off, and was able to play the next day when I had to go back to work. Doh!

Before I had a chance to play, my brother came over and started playing and went through a few levels.

How in the heck do you start a game over from scratch?

Go back to the first stage from the level select. Orrrr, delete your save I guess. I didn't see a new game option, but I didn't really look either :p

Yep, I had to go to the Dashboard and delete the saves.

Still wish there was a in game option like many other XBLA titles

That worked, but seems silly to omit that option

Presumably to make the sting of that delayed online co-op less painful, Square Enix will offer the first DLC release for Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light to Xbox 360 players for free -- for one month.

"...We will be offering the first DLC pack for free for the first 30 days, exclusively on the Xbox 360," Crystal Dynamics general manager Darrell Gallagher said in a press release, "so that gamers can get a taste of some of the exciting extras we have in store." This DLC pack is the first of five. Square Enix didn't announce a release date for the DLC, but it wouldn't be much of a conciliatory measure if it didn't arrive before the September 28 release of the online patch.

the game is okay, but over praised and not all that as it's hyped to be...heck, just about all 5 summer of arcade games are like this. well, I have 8 of 12 achievements that I got in about 3 hours of playing and i'm barely within like 3-4 levels in the game and it feels kinda broken to me and an incomplete experience. no online co-op, you can only have 1 gamesave, the camera angle can't be adjusted and the controls just feel kinda clunky for me. it sucks having to wait a month for a patch to update something so easy and yet, so important because playing the whole game alone isn't as fun so i'm just going to wait it out instead. then again, square enix is behind this and go figure they have messed up before on other games like 0 day attack on earth.

Finished the game today and I have an urge to run through each level and try to grab all the objectives/relics/red skulls (missed one truck on first playthrough too). I did it solo but I will probably play a third time with someone helping out def.

Oh and I finally remembered what game this reminded me of. Expendable made by Rage Software, got the demo with our PC a while ago (prob like a decade ago).

I liked the weapons and combos you could do. I saw myself playing a lot like Metroid, bomb and evade (using a power bomb feature with my relic).:D

Square Enix had nothing to do with the development of this game. Crystal Dynamics made it.

yeah, but after the publishing and everything that went through no one stopped and though about the other details and the main thing is online co-op which is a big deal breaker for alot of people especially pricing it @ $15 and having people waiting a month for a patch to add this in. for meanwhile, they could finally release that FREE DLC that was stated would be available while people who purchased the game wait as an incentive of some sort. overall, game is not worth the $15 in my opinion and I got it cheaper luckily. i'll wait it out for the online co-op to find all the skulls, relics and such and complete the game i'm not so interested in it so far..

True online co-op isn't in yet but at least we have a date for when it will be patched in, unlike what happened with Castle Crashers. I think it's totally worth the money, had a blast with it/replaying missions as well.

My husband and I played the demo together in co-op last night and had a blast. Neither of us have played a Laura Croft game before. The weapons are fun, and the puzzles are pretty neat. Graphics aren't bad, and the cut-scenes are pretty hilarious. We both commented we felt like we were watching The Mummy.

This is a great game for those that like local co-op.

After three tries this morning, I got through the first stage in 6 minutes and beat the challenge. Because I'd only played the game in co-op, I didn't know how to use Totec's spear, so I kept accidentially setting off a bomb or something instead of throwing the spear.

Interesting how there are fewer obstacles when playing by yourself.

I still can't disable that fire trap in 30 seconds or less. I think that one might be a lot easier in co-op.

I purchased this from a guy on ebay for $7.90 which is almost half off about an hour ago. I posted a thread in the video game deals a link to his site so that other CAG's could take advantage of the deal. Within 10 minutes, my thread was removed. Does anyone know why this is? Should I have posted this deal in another forum? Thanks.

only post ebay deals at the auction section
Thanks, now i know.
Thanks for posting it just the same, I saw it and got it. I don't have time to check every section for deals all the time. This was never a big deal in the past. Too bad for some people who will never see this deal because of petty rules and the people who feel they have to enforce them.

No problem at all. I just wanted to help my fellow CAG's who have helped me out a lot in the past.

This game never ceases to entertain me. I've been going through the campaign again and grabbing the objectives I've missed the first time. One thing I'm stuck on though is how to grab a red skull in the challenge room, there's a floor panel that activates a crushing wall which you throw the ball into the middle to step on, off to the top left on Flooded Passage. The skull is too high and I couldn't think of anything there. I could use the ball but I'm pretty sure I need that stuck in the crushing wall to get up to the ledge. I think I'm 8/10 on that level as well.

Just took out the T-Rex the second time you meet up with him. No problem with ammo this time since the relics I have regen health and ammo! No more relying for that center rotating stock pile column! TOok that sucker down! Ironically I'm 9/10 on red skulls there too.

Did you try jumping on the urn and then throwing a spear and then jumping on the spear? I think that's the one you're talking about on flooded passage.

How do people get free codes to sell on ebay?

Anyway, seeing this thread reminded me of why I enjoyed this game so flogging much. I like how the first time you play it's about survival and exploration. The second time you play it is about finding everything you missed the first time

But the third time

Oh the third time

The third time is about SPEED. RUNS. Game is speed runtacular and I love it so much for that.

Bs000, Hmmm I don't remember if there was an urn there but I might have instinctively shot it already lol.

FurryCurry Oh I know man, I haven't started trying to get par time for each level but I was going for all the objectives and there are a few timed ones as well. Like getting the rolling ball into the fire pit in 30 seconds and have the giant ball break through the wall in 5 min or less. Physics is awesome.

so it's nearly the end of the month already and no 'free dlc' as was stated previously, any word on that? I haven't loaded up the game since near launch time so don't know if they ever added the online co-op yet either but will try it later..
Glad this wasn't made into a Castle Crashers fiasco. I guess the free co-op is close then.
Yeah next week close. And it's free DLC. The co-op is like getting your dessert really really really really really late.

I'm pretty excited to see what's in the DLC since my broken ass Lara could use a good challenge (Spear of light, dual desert eagles, rpg, dual machine guns with the best stat boosters).

So the general impression is that this game is still pretty fun single player? I can't seem to talk anyone (that I know personally) into playing it. As a result I was waiting on picking it up.

Oh yeah. It's quite alright in single player. Yeah you miss out on the antics of playing with another person but the game is still very fun.

I enjoyed the game solo quite a lot. These times let you go all OCD and try to gain all the objectives on a level instead of helping out your buddy or just having fun.

Thanks guys. Sometimes I just need that final push to buy something I'm deliberating over. I'll add this to my list of games to buy after the Fall Deluge of games.
Awesome. Oh man everything is hitting the marketplace right now, doh!
I know! It's hard to know what to get! It's a good time to be a gamer. :D

I'm finally going to get this today - now I just need to convince a friend to buy it for the FINALLY IMPLEMENTED co-op. I guess if that fails I can enjoy it SP :p
I downloaded the DLC and booted it up. Only had a moment to glance at it, but where/what is the new content?
"Four new challenge maps filled with hordes of undead enemies and devious traps you must maneuver and exploit to survive."

Decided to buy this tonight. I'm enjoying it a lot, but does this game only save when you complete a level? I had played the demo, and decided to buy it part way through (right near the end of the level as it turned out) and I was surprised to find I had to start over again at the beginning. Or does it not save in the demo? If that's the case that sure is a strange way to do a demo. Anyway, it's definitely a fun game. Would be up for coop with someone some time, but I may play through it first in single player.

Anyone download the new content?

Maybe it is just me, but is seems very shagfu that you are allowed to download either the single player version of the content or the multiplayer version of the content, but not both.

I was in single player and it gave me a choice, downloaded and played a bit. Then I wanted to go to multiplayer -- and nada! not going to let you do it.

A bit po'd

I haven't played the game since I downloaded the DLC. You're saying the new content download is triggered while you're playing? I got the All the Trappings pack and would have figured it was all there.

Maybe it's a glitch? Xbox Live was acting very weird for me yesterday. I had to try three times to get Pinball FX 2 downloaded properly. The first two times it did download, but never showed up in the game library. I finally had to trash the files via the Memory settings on the console, and then download it from scratch. Not sure if it's related, but maybe? I also downloaded the Lara Croft DLC yesterday so I might have similar issues with it - I don't know where to tell that it's there. Nothing obvious in the game. I'm probably going to trash the files and then redownload it just to be safe.

I'll be honest, other than the first level of the DLC, I was pretty disappointed with this pack. It was free, which is nice, but outside of the first level, this pack doesn't really have a lot of co-op puzzle action, which is what I liked best.
The first level is a series of 3 puzzles to figure out but there's not anything to shoot and kill for points(or any gems to collect for points). The second one is a giant spike pit where you have to roll around and bomb gears in order to open up gates to get through to more spike puts to roll around in. The third one might have promise though it's just a "kill things as long as you can." level where you attempt to get a certain amount of points and it's over after you die. The fourth one is another of those levels where you have to run towards the top of the screen across platforms that fall and as balls drop from the top and take out some of those platforms too.

It feels pretty thrown together. I am wary of picking up any other DLC that comes out at a price if it's like this where as before I was planning on picking it all up since I had loved the original parts of the game so much.

I guess it's okay since it was free but I'll be honest, I wouldn't go back and play them again myself.

I had no problem playing either single or co-op and I downloaded it from the dashboard game marketplace section. Worked fine, found it under the "download content" option on the main menu of the game.

Woah really dude, I think you're being a bit harsh. It's a challenge pack, why wouldn't they have different levels that didn't connect to each other, they're challenges.

I'm not trying to be harsh, I was just trying to give my honest opinion. My favorite part of this game(one of my favorites of the year so far..) was the co-op puzzle solving/platforming and action sequences interspersed in between. Certainly for the price(free), I can't really complain that much. However, it did take the individual parts of the game and boil them down to one part per level and then threw them back out at you individually. One of this game's best strengths was that all of these things(puzzle solving, agility based puzzles, twin stick killing baddies and timed action sequences) is that they were intermixed with each other so none of them felt like they were over staying their welcome.

It's a fine DLC for free and extends the game about 30-45 minutes the first time. Would I pay for it if it was free? No, I don't think I would. I also don't think I would replay it in the future, I'd be more inclined to replay the original game instead, that's all. No achievements, no real ranking other than time(outside of the third level's hordes of enemies.)

Well I thought harsh was the opinion you stated here,
I am wary of picking up any other DLC that comes out at a price if it's like this where as before I was planning on picking it all up since I had loved the original parts of the game so much.
. I think that's counting your eggs before they hatch to be honest. That said I don't disagree that the dlc could have been better and I guess if you really like speed runs you're the target audience. That said I'm stuck on the spike pit level, god annoying lol.
