XBLA - Puzzle Quest - Now 800pts

I haven't bought it yet, but I played the demo... and needless to say, I'm glad I sold my DS copy when the getting was good.

Great googly moogly! This game is a TIME sucker! :) I had to stop before I played for 3 more hours... :)

Great game... It's a unique take on the genre, to be sure. Gotta watch out for the game's "hints"... seems inordinately geared towards setting up great shots for the computer player, if you take its "hints" over your own choice. :)

I'd take a chance on this, but I can't afford it right now. I dropped my cash on Orange Box and the rest is going towards Final Fantasy Tactics on the PSP.

I think I might have to pass on this anyway, the final Oblivion DLC (that weird castle) is going to be my next Marketplace splurge.

I played the demo too, and although I like puzzle games and RPG's, I'm not quite exactly seeing it yet - "it" being the adoration this game gets. I still have the DS version unplayed as well (kind of wish I hadn't rushed out and bought a gutted copy from a Gamecrazy for $30 back when it was rare a few weeks after release - now it's everywhere for $20, sealed too!). I'll probably still get the XBLA one, but it's probably too much Puzzle Quest for me. We'll see how I feel once I really get into the game though ;).

After spending probably 5 hours playing this yesterday, I'd say I have a new favorite XBLA game. I started as a druid but I wasn't really enjoying his spells, as a wizard, I get to blow things up more consistantly.

Is it just me or does the cpu screw you over by recommending moves that end up benefiting your enemy more?

Judging by post #103, I'd say it's not just you.

That Oblivion DLC is free for a week when it releases. So...no purchase necessary.
Just turn off the hints, luckily they give us that option in the 360 version.
Which reminds me, does anyone else have to turn off the hints everytime they start playing the game? It doesn't seem to save the "hints off" option for me.

You, sir, just made my day.

Splurge away...it will be free and limited availability for download to only one week.

EDIT: NVM...should have read ahead :whistle2:#

Awesome game, can't say enough good things about it. I've owned the DS version for a while and I double dipped with the XBL version. They did have to weak some things to make it fair for multiplayer over live. I don't remember so many of my spells having cool downs before I could use them again, but thats only a minor annoyance. I've been playing a lot of multiplayer (up to #8 in the rankings, woo!) and I'd love to play any CAGs, hit me up anytime. :)

I don't know if this has been mentioned.
However, there are 2 pictures that come with this game.. so go check your gamerpics.

Also, is anyone having a "problem" with the music? I'm finding my Victory Song comes a little late..and continues to play..even if I'm in another battle.. LOL

I didn't look at them closely but it was a guy & a girl. It was def Puzzle Quest related!

Gamer Pictures. When you go to change your gamer picture, they should be in there. Go check.

It does seem that the music is misplaced sometimes. I don't know if it is like that in every version of the game or just on the 360, though. It's more funny than annoying, actually.

I just won my first XBL match online, so I am 1/1. If anyone wants to play, I am a level 13 Knight, and I WILL throw down...

Edit: What is a godlike team? And how do you do the mount?

You get a mount by capturing an animal you can ride. A griffon, giant rat, etc.

As for the music, it's like that in all the versions. Basically it plays the entire track whether you move onto the next screen or not.

15 bucks for a game limited to one console with absolutely no resale value (and only online if you get RROD) does seem like a lot, like someone said, esp. since the history is 5,8,104. I'm a little concerned about where we're going with DLC and pricing. The PSP version, which comes with physical media that can be sold or traded, is only 5 bucks more (though admittedly no online play). You would think since marketing, shipment, and packaging costs are virtually nil, they'd pass the savings onto the customer (anyone remember "CDs will be much cheaper than cassettes because they're easier to make!"). I like the convenience of purchasing online, and I like having a whole bunch of games immediately accessible from the hard drive (of course, I have that elsewhere on a "computer"), but the oldschool gamer in me likes having an actual game. I still remember buying Final Fantasy Tactics on PS1 and opening that bad boy in the mall, reading the instructions on a bench while waiting for my wife to shop.
Anyway, that said, I'm tempted, I enjoyed the demo and I've go about 4000 points.
Question: It does have same-console (offline) multiplayer correct? How does that work? Do both people (with gamertags on the same console) have Quest characters to use? Do both people have to have Gold memberships?

I'm loving this game so far, even though I'm currently stuck on the Dugog boss battle which is kicking my ass. There doesn't seem to be many people playing online multiplayer, which makes it hard for me to get the one online achievement out of the way.

I know this is a weird request, but does anyone know where I could find the music for Quiz and Dragons from Capcom Classics Collection vol 2? I think this game would be so much better if I could get that as my custom soundtrack while I play this..

$15's fair. Why would you want to resell Puzzle Quest? It's an absolute classic.

BTW, the moves the computer suggests could be good or bad - the point of having the hints is that they suggest a move when you just can't find a move on your own.

Dugog is probably the hardest enemy in the game. I've played through the whole game 3 times, and every time that's where I get stuck and have to level up before continuing. Not that there aren't tough fights later, but you're better equipped to handle them. Dugog is just brutal that early in the game.

Yea I can't beat em either so I think I need to keep power leveling or go take on The Trarg. I'm lvl 13 and I have a lvl 5 rat as a mount lol and I captured enrage! I love this game.

Yea that guy is brutal, took me 11 tries to finally beat him.

There isn't many people playing online(MP) wise. There is 9/10 times not a game up in either player or ranked. If I start a room, about 50% of the time I get within someone to join in about 5-10 minutes or so.

Great game otherwise, been playing a lot over the past few days. Only gripe with it so far is how the AI plays against you and usually gets a 4 combo 3-5x in a row before their turn is over :\

Yea I really hate that, when the AI knows the best move and gets four gem combos as there turn goes on forver. Also when you make a mtch and it's their turn after gee a couple skulls drop down and they hit ya again@! fuck, I'm a druid and lol I just got death cap or whatever so when I get my ass handed to me +5 skulls spawn on the board. It's very interesting now lol and yea I prob have played Dugog 10 times so far.

After reading this thread, I sank in and bought it. Very addicting. I can see why it sold so well on the handhelds. My eyes hurt after awhile so I have to take breaks, heh. Oh well, fun game. =]
I just played of rlike 3 hours straight and my eyes are killing me...I I can see are gems and skulls!
Yea my eyes don't hurt but I can relate. That also happened to me when I was playing too much freecell, all I saw were cards when I blinked or closed my eyes lol.

If someone wants to play an online game, add me to your list.

Just got done playing about 4 hours, virtual crack

Fun game, sad part was that most of the that time was spent mostly in the lobby waiting for someone to come in(shortest wait time 3 min, longest was close to 10 minutes but didnt keep track as I made something to eat + did laundry.) Should work on the actual single player but I enjoy playing other people since as stated above, don't really like the AI.

If anyone is looking for anyone to play, feel free to send me a challenge.

Wooo just killed Dugog, the first ogre boss, man was he tough and that was my 12th fight with him. I lvled up from 14 to 16 and did the knights training to build myself up as well as I rethought my spell strategy. I gotta hit the hay lol.

Logged in 2 days playing this and I finally beat it. Could not stop playing it. Bane was a pushover with my Druid even though he looked intimidating at first.

I agree that Dugog was the toughest opponent in the game.

Any tips on forging a God Like item? What runes did you use?

I took out Dugog on my third try with a level 18 mage. Health regeneration helps, and being able to destroy his red and blue mana also comes in handy. Now, if I could only learn the Troll's regeneration spell... oh, wait, I can, but I have to be really really lucky to learn a "very hard" spell!

Took over a city already, too. Yea for free gold! :D
