I saw this on 1up :

Fueled by DOOM being a breakout hit on Xbox Live arcade, Carmack let it slip that Quake Arena is coming as a digital download. He didn't have much to share about that -- but that didn't stop him from also talking about a next-gen Quake Arena."We've already started this where I've pulled a kernel of a team over and we've begun hiring others to eventually make an Id Tech 5 Quake Arena title where it's back to the high-speed action and..."

Wait a second. Did he just let slip that he's actively planning the next Quake Arena game? Yep. "Quake III: Arena remains my favorite id game because it was so pure a concept. It wasn't our most popular game, but it was popular enough," he says.

I'm there on day one .

Cool. My friend has been bugging me to get the PC game because nobody plays it anymore, and he wants someone to play with. Now we can both just get this.

wtf ..... do you have the 1.32 patch...
wtf ..... do you have the 1.32 patch...
I don't actually own it, I just play it at his house, but he probably doesn't that patch now that I think about it. Next time I talk to him I'll tell him to download it.

yah people still play...but I think I'd rather do it on my 360. I wonder how its goin to feel, because its fast paced and need precise aiming.
Wow this should be great. Too bad they probably won't have Quake 3 Arena.
wasn't it only Quake 3 arena? If they put this out it should be compatitble with the PC version, seeing how sega did it so many years ago with dreamcast. They also might as well bundle it with Quake 1, seeing how 2 and 4 are already available also

ugh.....Quake 3 IS Quake 3 Arena

i wounder if Quake 3 will be like Lumines and cost like 1200 pts or maybe even more like 1600 pts.
lol, quake 3 with a controller.

That's like Formula 1 with a tricycle.
 Every time anybody mentions a first person shooter on a console somebody shits all over it because PC controls are better. Ok we get it. We've heard it since the first FPS was released for a console. Enough.

Anyway I'm VERY excited for this Q3A is my favorite deathmatch game of all time. Day one purchase for me.

Oh man, it's like the Dreamcast and PC all over again. I played Quake III then like I play Halo 2 now. It was THE game that got me playing over the internet.

The Dreamcast port of Q3A was fantastic. It was our group's favorite console FPS during the lull between Goldeneye/PD and Halo. That said, I'm very excited about getting back into it.
You know guys, it only says: Quake: Arena. I'm excited too, but there is the chance it's a new game.
Oh crap. What if they decide to make it Quake: Arena... as in Quake 1: Arena? That would be such a freakin' gyp! I wouldn't touch that... however, if it were in fact Quake III Arena, I'd be all over it.

Rage is iD's new announced project, I doubt they'd make another for XBLA at the same time. =)

As badass as QuakeWorld was in it's time, I don't think it'd sell too well anymore. Q3A would be great, especially if they could somehow convince the mod teams to let Jailbreak, Rocket Arena, etc get thrown in with it.

I hope my skills with the stick can come somewhat close to my skills with the keyboard and mouse back in the glory days of 1999.

LOL at people that still shit on controllers for FPS's . Practice makes perfect .;)

I used to tear up Q3 on the Dreamcast by changing the controls to a kind of Turok style .[Walking with the buttons aiming with the analog]

OMG YESSSS!!!!

I still play this game on my comp to this day!

Ugh, my railgun skills have been declining due to getting too used to the controller. This will definitely even things out with everyone playing on XBLA with a controller.

Hopefully more than 16 players can be in a match? if its less than 16 i'll be disappointed.
Hopefully more than 16 players can be in a match? if its less than 16 i'll be disappointed.
I doubt it, but who knows? Its going to be hard to pull off rail hits with a controller.

YIPPIE!!!!!

I remember when my very first computer wouldn't run this game.

My college roommate was like "You gotta upgrade your video card."

I said "What's a video card????"
I am going to get it....and I only have one XBLA game I paided for.:D
I have none (unless you count UNO w/the vision camera) :D

If it comes out soon enough, it could be my first purchase. Definitely what I'm most excited about (though it still hasn't even been announced, technically).

Eh. It's not just that. Quake is just retarded fast gameplay. I'm very comfortable with either a controller or a PC, but with a game like Q3, a twitch shooter, even I have my doubts. But of course, they're going to be implementing some kind of auto-aim.

OTTO AIMZ IS 4 TEH NEWBS!!!!

j/k, my entire Halo experience has depended on auto aim.

i hope they implement auto aim in Q3. Any word on Team Arena?

I love the internetz. Of course they're going to have auto-aim. Every single console FPS has some kind of aim assistance.

Yeah but Unreal Tournament came out for the XBOX and PS2, that game is very chaotic. So hopefully they'll figure out how to implement the controller.

Yeah, the game IS very chaotic. But IDK if you've played it lately, especially the original UT for PS2. Man. Bullets were like magnets. The game still worked, but watching the Plasma Rifle's laser bolt directly attach itself to someone was weird.
