It isn't really fair to say that the deals suck (in general) just because they don't have the specific things you want though. It sounds like if you didn't find any games out of more than 60 then you probably only want a very small selection of items. Naturally there will be less of a chance that you will get what you want if you only want a few things.

I am curious what you'd like to see on sale. I feel the same way as you about not buying anything unless it is DotW. That is why I just now got around to buying Big Surf Island even though Burnout Paradise is one of my favorite Xbox 360 games ever.
Well saying something sucks because it wasn't what you wanted or expected it understandable to me. Say you ask for a game for your birthday and then get a different one you never wanted. Some may say that birthday could suck.

Also I'm not waiting for anything, I just used that as an example. But then again I am not saying the deals for the past 6 months have sucked, I am just explaining why some may have said that.

And I am fine with buying full priced stuff if it interests me enough. From Dust looks interesting as hell and may warrant a day one purchase, but I could care less about a lot of the other Arcade games and DLC and thus I wait for a sale.

Weird how they made the Marathon Pack for Dance Central. Two of the songs found in the other dance packs aren't in the Marathon Pack. Oh well, I guess.

Can't decide if I want the Forza VIP car pack... I am planning on getting the collector's edition because I'm a junky for that stuff. Seems like sealed copies haven't sold for much yet, so it's kind of hard to find a used copy without the code for that much cheaper.
anyone know if scott pilgrim was dotw before ?
Yes 400 points. I think it was Octoberish. I bought it since I played through it on PSN (which I paid full price for release day) and was more than happy to run through it again for another fun 100%.
anyone know if scott pilgrim was dotw before ?
yep picked it up at 400 pts when the blu ray/dvd came out in november

Hmm. Maybe I should pickup Scott Pilgrim now. I was hoping and waiting for a sale price, but I guess that won't be happening. Or have there been cases of XBLA games going on sale a second time during these DotW's?
How long ago was the Bad Company 2 DLC on sale? Did I completely miss the boat on that one?
From what I remember it was the week of May 5th, and yea you did, it was 50% off everything, Vietnam and the works.

Ever heard of RISK: Factions? That's been on sale numerous times. There is precident for games to go on sale more than once. The Monkey Island games for example seem to go on sale at least once or twice a year.

Do I think there is a chance SP will go on sale again? Yes. Is it worth the $10 if you don't want to wait any longer? Absolutely. If you like beat-em ups this is the finest this generation of games has to offer save for Castle Crashers. FWIW I'm by no means a fan of the SP franchise-I hated the movie-so I'm not a fanboy but rather just a fan of old school beat-em ups. The art style is great. The coop is fun despite the lack of online and drop-in/drop-out. It'll kick your ass early on until you save up the coin to buy some good power-ups but then you can just steamroll through the game. Very satisfying experience.

No need to give me a sales pitch for Scott. I was sold after playing the demo! It's definitely a well-done old school-style brawler. I'm just hoping there will be a second chance at getting for cheap, which based on your observations sounds possible.

About to pull the trigger on SNK's new shmup Trouble Witches Neo! It came out about 2 months ago for 800 MSP. After playing the hell out of the amazing Jamestown for PC, I've really been itching for a new shmup ;)

Wondering if I should hold off for a sale or just bite the bullet and pick it up now...

I think I remember reading that SNK XBLA games rarely, if ever, go on sale. Let me know what you guys think. Thanks.

I'm glad they have been dropping the prices of some games permanently each month but it seems like the ones that they do are things 1-2 years old. Wish they'd do some things older than that. Seems like the real old arcade games never go on sale or get dropped.
Also I miss the days when future DOTWs were leaked almost a month in advanced.

I'd go ahead and get Trouble Witches Neo, doubt it will go on sale. I plan on getting it as soon as my 4000 point card comes in the mail.

Shmups rarely go on sale and, as you said, SNK stuff has never gone on sale. It's a fun little game. Just bite the bullets.

I'm pretty sure Metal Slug 3 went on sale once.

And I don't think they ever patched that Modern Warfare 2 glitch that let you play the full versions of some SNK XBLA demos, lol.

Yeah, Metal Slug 3 went on sale as well as I think it's Metal Slug XX. Also some of the King Of Fighter games were on sale but I already had all the snk games. The time they were on sale is when the MW2 game disc glitch was working..they chose bad timing for a sale.

It seems like there's the "SNK has never put XBLA games on sale" debate every few months. Until someone can find an old news story that says otherwise I have to stand by my answer. I know for sure that Metal Slug XX has never been on sale as I've been waiting for a price drop since the day they've released it.

Metal Slug XX is one of the games that works with the Modern Warfare 2 glitch. Only reason I beat it and got the achievements. It's really not worth $15.

I didn't like Scott Pilgrim that much but it's a decent piece of work. Just wish people didn't worship it and Castle Crashers so much. Beat-em-ups can be so much more than what they are and have demonstrated it many times.

People in this thread keep claiming the sales on XBLA are amazing but I'm not seeing it. Very little of the stuff I want goes on sale and even then, it's so far after the fact that $5 is not really much.

Saying that Castle Crashers or Scott Pilgrim are the best beat-em ups this generation does not mean that I worship them. In fact I agree with you to the extent that they could still be so much better. However, since there aren't any beat-em ups that do it better this generation, I stand by my statement.

You say that there are examples of better beat-em ups this generation. Could you name some and why? I'm a fan of the genre since the early 90s arcades and I do fall in and out of it from time to time so there's always a possibility I missed something cool. If not, please stop being such a fucking negative nancy all the time.

Oh and if you just attack me for calling you a childish name instead of answering my completely serious question then you must really lack decisive evidence...

Trouble Witches Neo is fantastic fun, as is Jamestown. Strania is also good and at the reasonable $10 price. I don't like it as much as TWN or Jamestown but it is good fun if you love dot dodging. It runs a different flavor from the Touhou-style play of TWN or Jamestown's peculiar, well-scaled mix.

CC and SP have such limited movesets and don't have really good grapples. It feels like just X-mashing too often. To me, the joy of a brawler is smashing objects over guys or smashing guys over objects. Heavy hits. Throws. The moves there just didn't resonate with me. Not to knock CC or SP terribly, they exhibit fine workmanship. I just don't want people to think they're all brawlers can do. It'd be like the retro platformer infestation that is choking the indie game scene. Other people might liken it to CoD style shooters being the standard but I wouldn't go that far.

To that end, my ideal brawlers of recent memory are Double Dragon Advance and The Warriors. If we wanted to go further 3D, I'd also say Splatterhouse. It had serious issues but the combat did a lot right to differentiate it from God of War, DMC, CV:LoS, etc.

The new Double Dragon for the Iphone really works, too. Shank (XBLA, PC, PS3), also, was great fun.

EDIT: Not to lump GoW, DMC, LoS in one pool. No sir, they represent different flavors of a souffle and fine games in their own right, but none of those really match beat-em-ups of yore, to me. They are something different.

Well, LoS probably isn't fine fine but it had solid workmanship.

I've been interested in Shank but waiting for a 400 point sale on it. Double Dragon also seems good but that's got to be a buck before I bite since it's an iPhone game.

I remember The Warriors and didn't particularly care for it myself, but then I'm not a big Rockstar fan. They make good games but they haven't been for me since they turned GTA into a 3D sandbox game.

Haven't tried Splatterhouse but I've heard nothing but bad things from everyone but you now. I'll have to pick it up when I can snag a $10 or less copy and give it a go.

Most of what you've heard bad is probably true. I can't wholeheartedly recommend the game without reservations. It is definitely shoddy and rushed, but the ideas there were fun and the heft they gave their blows and the moveset you had made me enjoy every drop of it, even the lousy poorly thought out drops.

Here, this is the video that sold me on the game. If you can't see yourself enjoying what's on offer, I'd say pass:

Also, the demo for Shank should tell you everything you need to know about it.

Double Dragon for Iphone comes from the DDA mold but made by a different group. It's not spectacular and probably a forgettable entry in the genre, but it works at what it does.

Also, forgot one, Streets of Rage Remake. They went a little overboard with enemy speed and some balance issues but apart from that it's good fun.

I'm surprised to say this, but I agree with RollingSkull about Splatterhouse! It has obvious problems (excessive load times, the last few levels are a true grind) but it's also a lot of fun and a very good homage to the classic games. Plus it's crazy violent (without being too realistically sadistic ala Manhunt) and has a great Lovecraftian story. Definitely worth trying for $20 or so.

It's not THAT hard to agree with me. I just rag on the hot button items everyone on the internet likes and wants to defend. It's as I keep saying: Everyone who loves making the issue about ME never notices the stuff I upsell when I'm downselling their pet game, even if I've been recommending more than I've been unrecommending.

I've heard of the SoR remake. Is that out or just a freeware download in cyber space? I love SoR and had heard about this project before but know nothing beyond its existence.

It's out. It's been ceased and desisted by Sega so it won't be on their website. You'll just have to do a google search or two to find it because it certainly won't be pulled from every Megaupload or Rapidshare site out there.

The latest one is Version 5, I believe.

Thanks for the tips guys... TWN will be mine ;)

I love the classic beat-em-ups too. This gen has been decent for the genre. CC and SP are both in my collection. They are both fun... I was unaware that you can upgrade your fighter in SP, I just thought the game was extremely hard lol. I am so dumb. Thanks for the insight Chrono :D

Also demo'd Shank when it first came out and it seemed like a lot of fun but a bit much @ $15. It dropped to $10 and I still passed. $5 seems just about right. I have a feeling we might see that price point in an upcoming major sale. BTW, when is the next big XBLA sale? Did MS do anything special for summer last year, or do we have to speculatively wait until Black Friday?

Also have my eye on a couple of the Summer of Arcade games. Bastion will most likely be Day 1 for me. Maybe From Dust and ITSP too... depending on what kind of rebate MS is going to offer.

There's a video rental shop in the first area that has you owing a $500 late fee. Pay it and you'll have access to super cheap super powerful upgrades. Well worth the initial investment.

No big sale announced as of yet but there's bound to be one sooner or later. It seems like they do at least 1 big sale every quarter so we should be due soon. There was a big e3 sale last year but nothing this year.

If memory serves they usually put last year's SoA games on sale right before the new ones release so I would anticipate something like that shortly. Personally hoping they put this Spring's games on sale as I am waiting to get Hard Corps Uprising, Beyond Good & Evil HD and Torchlight.

You are, however, more negative about games in general than positive. I'm the exact opposite there. You also utilize lots of hyperbole and insult the things you don't like, which are pet peeves of mine. More even-tempered criticism would go over a lot better.
Did I mention you seem to hate everything? That's really why I'm surprised, I don't think we like the same games too often.

Grabbed the Roy Orbison pack, because I am that guy. Stoked for Trenched and Half-Minute Hero--and then, for Bastion and Rock of Ages.

FWIW, I really enjoyed Splatterhouse as well.

I have the trials of HCU and Torchlight downloaded, waiting for them to go on sale. Only bad thing about Torchlight is no multiplayer.. :\

This. I have avoided this topic since it is way off topic for this thread, but since someone else has brought it up I might as well add my 2 cents. You are entitled to your opinion, of course, but I think the problem is that you seem to just say that everything sucks without giving a reason. If you don't like a game and want to voice a dissenting opinion, by all means do so, but please give a reason or two why you don't like something. This lack of reasoning coupled with the mostly negative comments you post are the reason why I'm sure many people just don't converse with you. I was expecting you to just fuck all over everything tonight, but instead you surprised me with some positive responses. If you can converse like this on a consistent basis and not resort to just yelling at the internet then I would be glad to hear from you. Please continue to be constructively critical and back your opinions in future and I will be thrilled. If we can all be adult with our opinions this board will be more enjoyable for us all.

For sure. When? We don't know but many games get featured again.
Any chance on Fallout/Mass Effect content getting put back on Sale?
Fallout 3 DLC was 2-3 weeks ago on Sale
Mass Effect DLC was on sale in October/November 2010

I don't think Fallout DLC will be on sale soon, except the Fallout New Vegas DLC Dead money

Wow the first time Bejeweled Blitz Live goes on sale and it's a HUGE drop? Must not have sold as well as they expected. I'm in. 50% off all other Pop Cap games means PvZ will be 600 points. Almost where I want it to be. May end up biting on that as well out of desperation for more new arcade games.

How is the emulation of the 3 original Splatterhouse games? I remember 2 & 3 from the genesis, but didn't play the 1st one til years later.

Plants vs. Zombies at 600 Microsoft Points is a fantastic deal if it is included in the PopCap Games sale. I purchased it at 800 Microsoft Points and have absolutely no regrets at that price point. There is a lot of bonus content that PopCap created for the 360 version of Plants vs. Zombies and the accessible tower-defense gameplay combines with the great sense of humor for an incredibly fun game.

It also has one of the most catchy and funny songs about zombies I have ever heard.

I passed on Peggle and Nights the last time they were on sale in a hope that they would go cheaper, but if they are part of this sale then I will snatch them up anyway. I got over 300 points via Xbox rewards anyway so might as well use my free points.

yes, and if it doesnt, and you cant wait, rent the pop cap collection #2 and play through it. i got tired of waiting too, and im glad i didnt make a purchase for it, good game but nothing new by any means
