& seriously hope there's a shmup sale in the future (Triggerheart Excelia is fun, but waiting for it to be $5). Just glad there's more shmups hitting XBLA, though.

Damn, I'd love to get both Ikaruga and R-Type on sale.

Somewhat related to shooters, is there any chance a version of Smash TV will show up on the XBLA Marketplace? I'd think that would be a fantastic multi-player game to make available. I don't know any of the history behind the licensing, but I loved the SNES version.

And thanks to wikipedia, I see it used to be available on XBL but isn't any longer. What's the deal?

It was on Marketplace a long time ago, then Midway went out of business. They pulled all Midway games after that.

Midway, the company that owned the rights, went under. It won't return to the Live marketplace until the new owner writes up a new contract with MS.

Gah, that sucks. I suppose it's better that they were available at some point and removed rather than never having been available at all. Smash TV is one game I would download in a heartbeat.
 
At my last job in the game industry, I was working on a team doing a proof of concept for a Smash TV re-imagining/sequel for Midway just before they went under. So they were well aware of it's popularity and wanted to mine it.

Too bad that never came to fruition. The 3D models and levels we built were damn cool.

That's both thrilling and depressing at the same time. I hope someone purchases their outstanding licenses in the near future and at least brings the previously-available games back. They're too good to keep off the XBLA Marketplace.

Been working my way through the game for review, so far I'm not very impressed. Hoping maybe it picks up once the multiple weapons comes into play and all that. I do like that the story picked up where GB2 left off though.

yeah I know, those are 2 of the most mainstream games to hit in popularity. I was referring that the the other games aren't getting such popularity or anything and smaller developer companies like Cave could really benefit from a sale. SNK was rumored to have a sale this past december and that never happened, come to think of it I think they've only had a few of their games on sale but that was after people found a way to play their games entirely due to the mw2 glitch and I think they even earned achievements points. Ah nothing for me to purchase in the coming weeks.

The demo allowed you to use two weapons and it was basically a tedious exercise of switch to red for the red ghosts, then yellow for the yellow ghosts. Found it very bland.
 
I think what disappoints me most is that a few years after wishing the first Ghostbusters game had offered a jumpsuit and proton pack for Xbox Avatars, Sanctum Of Slime finally makes that available...and the only option I have to choose from is freakin' PINK. I want my avatar to be a Ghostbuster, not Princess Ghostbuster. *sigh*

So far my complaint about the weapons is that yellow does practically no damage to a red ghost and so on. If the damage was only slightly modified it would play better in my opinion. Must complete the game before making final call though... the downside to legitimately reviewing games. :)

Not only does that suck, it doesn't make sense. I guess all you can do is complain to Atari.

yeah, it's not worth the hassle. I made a new account and it defaulted to a u.s. account for some reason even though I didn't put any information in. weird, i'll just wait for it to drop in price instead.

I still have my account from the free PvsZ, but since I changed to a Slim, PvsZ didn't seem to work with my main account anymore.......but thanks, got in on this!
 
Ah sweet, it worked :D. Awesome find guys, was mad i missed out on the other free XBLA game. (Swarm i think?)

Glad i didnt buy it, was considering to play with a friend. Though....i have to agree the game felt kind of bland, i was hoping it would be much better. (I LOVED the other Ghostbuster's game that came out)

go to msn.com, make a new email address and in the Country from the drop down menu choose Taiwan and make sure u do that because the United States is default so it might slip by you. From there, go to xbox.com and login with that same email address and password and once u are logged in, continue through the link provided for the game and in the left hand side on the bottom change the country again to Taiwan and again, be careful as by default it'll be United States. From there, google Taiwan Address and fill out the information. Once you're done, go back to the link and choose the 1st link to download the game free. Took me less than 5 minutes :bouncy:

I remember them cracking down on this a few years ago (IIRC they just banned the fake accounts, thus ending your license for that content), but nothing in recent memory.

EDIT: Just googled a little bit and it was 11/2006. That make this post useless.

Cool, thanks. I'm rather hesitant to start playing it now. I suppose I'll just wait a couple of weeks. If someone does get banned/suspended, hopefully they'll mention it here.

Lol, they wont ban you. The first thing i ever got from a foreign account was the Resident Evil 5 demo, and that was years ago. Also got Earthworm Jim and PvZ recently (And quite a few other foreign demo's).

Its not like its a glitch in the system or something, they just put it up for free, and we happened to notice and take advantage of it.

From the Xbox Live TOA:

-"Download or use any material sent or provided by another user of the Service that you know, or reasonably should know, cannot be legally shared or distributed in such manner (except as expressly permitted by us);"

I'm not sure what they mean by "legally shared". They also mention "unauthorized downloads", but I don't think that would apply to this.

If they didn't ban people for buying illegally obtained points, they wont ban you for downloading a game that they have for free on THEIR marketplace.

If this was a mistake on the US market, would you be ok with downloading it? I've gotten in on quite a few US mistakes....all the ME2 bonus content at launch, PvZ avatar item, Bejeweled Blitz theme, Fable II, etc.

Well, yes, since our accounts are US accounts, we're not sharing it. For this, we're sharing it, passing it from our foreign accounts to our US accounts. Its not the downloading from the foreign account that's breaking any rules, since its free for that region. I didn't see anything in the TOA about falsifying locations.

In my opinion, this is Karma bestowing upon everyone who purchased and played The Ghostbusters Video Game pre-patch, and got screwed out of the glitched, multi-player achievements.

Considering it is well within the bounds of Xbox's TOS that any account can play an XBLA game on the console it was originally downloaded on so long as the gamertag that downloaded it still has their licenses attached to it, you're fine. I got PvZ a while back doing this exact thing with no issue. And just last week I played the X-Men arcade game on my buddy's Xbox (using my gamer tag on a hard drive) because he owned it.

Now, there is an entire thread dedicated to free stuff on Xbox Live in the Contest and Free Stuff forum, could we please move the convo over there and get this thread back on track?
 
you got it budz.....

does anyone have information that they will eventually release a disc compliation of the new sonic games (sonic 4 EPISODE 1)? i did a quick search and could not find info about that. obviously since the next episodes arent even on the horizon this would be a loooong ways away. but ive got nothing but time and other games
