Hopefully xbox puts crazy taxi and burnout on sale. Could use some arcade drivers.
Amazon was just running a sale on the dreamcast collection for $9. There is really no reason at all to buy any of those games even at the sale prices unless you absolutely HATE the other 3 games and just want one.
Bah, crappy selections so far. So crappy in fact that I may even consider picking up Castlevania HD.....well maybe not!
C'mon MS throw us a bone....with some meat on it.
I'd recommend it for 600pts, whether or not Xbox does drop the rest of these prices.

I urge you all to try out the Dungeon Defenders trial.

It's honestly a steal at 15 bucks, whenever it goes on sale it's a must buy unless you absolutely hate it IMO.
Well according to MajorNelson's tweet:

Link goes to the Shocktober promo page. I guess will stick those 3 items in to OP when I get home
Even that is not complete. Metro 2033 is part of shocktober. I saw that in my dash this morning.

Some info is better than nothing. Especially the Week 1 part. I hope next week is better.

Sounds reasonable. I still think MS doesn't know what the fuck they're doing with this Shocktober sale. It's a clusterfuck like the 1st party sale 6 weeks ago. Hopefully all the games to the link that drawingboard posted go on sale *crosses fingers*

In the meantime, I'm just gonna chill tonight and watch the 1st game of the World Series. Maybe it'll be sorted out before the end of the week(doubt it)

Well, Dead Space 2 is on that list, so I doubt all of the games will go on sale, as it's not even for sale with Games on Demand.

God I can't believe War of the Worlds made it to XBLA. If anyone played it at PAX, they will know how god awful the game is. Imagine Limbo, but with clunky controls, a washed out, super grey and dull color scheme, and annoying bugs (like falling through the ground after a jump or getting stuck in objects). I suggest no1 ever buy that game lol.

Dungeon Defenders, on the other hand, is a must buy =D

It's not bad, but I like Orcs Must Die! better. It might be different if I had co-op partners, i can't really say.

But it has DLC D:

Was the PAX version final? Could they have fixed that stuff?

I was wondering the same thing. Seems foolish to not at least try the demo when it comes out.
no never heard of it. Actually it was mlb slugfest but after watching gameplay from it, it looks exactly like The Bigs series.

On DOTW topic, which Halo DLC is worth getting?
I had that game as a kid, I loved it!

Edit: quoted the wrong post

Then they'd list it separately, like the other DLC. We'll see if they're just dumb, though.

So basically Limbo.
Looks like their bringing back NFL Blitz in a coupe of months. http://www.xbox360achievements.org/news/news-9883-NFL-Blitz-Set-to-Return-on-XBLA.html

I wonder whats with resurrecting all these classic sports games. I wonder whats next that one baseball game that had players fight each other on the way onto the bases, MLB SLugfest I believe.
Nostalgia is the most powerful force in video gaming.

Which is a shame because Blitz the League 2 was fantastic. It'd be a shame to roll that stuff back. Then again, NBA Jam made a lot of progress between BOOMSHAKALAKA and the rehashes as of late and that got rolled back too so whatever. If it's fun, I'll try it.

I bought both of them last time they were on sale and I think they were both worth the 400mp, And I really don't even like Reach that much.

Most the maps are pretty large though, but unless you absolutly hate Invasion and BTB I think you'd enjoy them.

I'm going to download the demo of Castlevania and give it a shot but for those that have played the full game, is the single-player campaign worth it? I've never played a Castlevania game before. I know, I know. For shame.

I never played one aswell until I got symphony of the night. It was such a great game 10+ hours into it. Awesome castlevania game. I played HOD and didnt like it since everyone is so small and just wasn't feeling it. I got Lords of Shadows on my backlog so now that I think about I hope that the dlc for that is included for shockobter. But you must pick up SOTN even for 800 MSP its a classic!!!

After thinking about it for a while, I finally decided to buy Metro 2033. $22 is about the used price, and I have a lot of Microsoft Points. Can't wait to finish downloading it!

As a single-player game, it's only average, I'd say. Don't get me wrong, it's a great game, but I simply cannot play it alone. I'm so used to playing it online with 5 other people that SP is just bland by comparison (plus, I love showing off my Charlotte ;) ).

Plus, I'd say the MP is greatly encouraged simply by the fact that there's quite a few out-of-reach places throughout the stages that can't be accessed without help from other players.

Still, the merit to SP is that you can grind spells, skill levels, gear, etc. at your own leisure. However, if you're buying it solely for the SP experience, you may feel it was a bad purchase.

The demo is a terrible example of the game honestly. As for SP, I'd say its not really worth the purchase. It's in its glory when you're playing with friends, and only if you enjoy repetetive grinding of the same levels over and over for loot/skillups (which I do).

If you're looking to pop your Castlevania cherry I reccomend waiting on a sale for Symphony of the Night, or biting the bullet for full price. Sounds more like what you're looking for and I guarantee you won't regret it.

Tried the dungeon defenders demo. Seems really deep and lots of customization options. Tempted to pay full price but it goes against every fibre of my cheapass. If it werent the holiday blockbuster season I might have. Instant sale buy!

Does anyone know if the upcoming Halo:Anniversary will be like Halo:ODST.

Meaning that one disc will include all the multiplayer from Reach. Trying to figure out if I should purchase the map packs or not.

Look, I've come to terms with your rationality when it comes to criticizing games, however excessive I may personally consider it to be, and I generally respect your opinion when it comes to reviews, even if I disagree with it as I am wont to like something I WANT to like even if I arbitrarily shouldn't see past a game's terrible and glaring flaws.

However, I feel that Blitz's and Jam's strengths were in the incredibly simple mechanics that allow for fast-paced and silly gameplay. It was obviously a design decision to make them as simply as they were made, and not a failure on the designer's part, and in this way I feel (and clearly millions of other gamers feel) they had succeeded in making simple, ridiculous games that boiled down their respective sports to the elements that outsiders to the sports recognize the sports for.

The ways they attempted to beef up these formulas as console generations advanced, ultimately through adding player progression elements, made the games into different games. I'm not arguing that these different games were not good games. However, I feel, and I am sure many others feel, that Jam and Blitz are STILL fun games and that they can stand beside more complex arcade-sport games, and do not need to be replaced by them.

I still play NFL Blitz 2001 and NBA Jam TE (or Hangtime) to this day with savvy friends, and we laugh our asses off. This isn't nostalgia talking. In all likelihood, you just don't like these games any more personally, or you never actually did.

You tend to paint all players who have fond memories of old games as wearing rose-tinted glasses when looking through the photo album of gaming gone by, but the fact of the matter is that that simply isn't always fair or true. Some games were genuinely good. Blitz and Jam are two of them.

I'll give you that. I was overstating the "progress" and "rolled back" aspects. They really are different games of different styles.

My problem is that Tecmo Bowl, NBA Jam, etc, these modern remakes bore me beyond the first 30 minutes or so. There's simple fun there, I agree, but it's too simple for me. (Though, to be honest, I think the Tecmo Bowl remakes were actually inferior to the original.) I do lament though that the general inertia of the genre seems to be tending toward the retro fetishry rather than the sort of design philosophy that gave us Blitz The League 2. The retro-styled games get so much more 'juice,' more attention because of that nostalgia.

Of course, this could just be a fad or I could just be misreading. I just don't like the idea that we might go all retro all the time. And I'd just hate to see those games that came between relegated to the dust bin of history due to the misfortune of coming after the games everyone remembered.

That said, yes, a fair cop to you. I definitely chose improper terminology in framing the games, and you are absolutely correct in that they are very different games. To imply that we are backstepping on a linear track was foolish of me.

On an unrelated note, absolutely not a fan of CV:HD's grinding heavy, MH wannabe style but it is not ESPECIALLY bad. Konami's reusing so much solid yet middling material at this point that it'd be hard for them to turn really bad.

It's true, many games that advanced arcade-sports (NBA Street 2 and 3, I hold you always in my heart) were often ignored or rabidly supported by a limited audience. This is extremely unfortunate for people like you and me who are simply enthusiastic to see something new in this style. I think an unfortunate fact is that it really is one or the other for the general game-playing sports fanbase: strictly simple arcade, or strictly complex sim. I don't see a complex arcade sports game finding huge success and longevity any time soon, unfortunately.

Basically my issue atm. I'm wrapping up Batman AA so I can play AC now so there is no reason to buy this right away. Plus I'm super torn on what platform to buy it on. There is some PS3 exclusive familiars (What they are I don't know. They are not listed anywher I can find and the PS store is giving me grief as usual) and I'm a sucker for exclusives like that. So if I do buy it I really should get the PS3 version. : /

The PS+ familiars are listed here, is that what you're looking for.

Thanks. I was finally able to get in the PS Store last night and found the content anyway. That dragon looks awesome.

FYI,

My site seems to be having issues with scans. GTA: San Andreas is $4.49 on GFWL but my site thinks it's free. I may have a bug with the $4.49 price. I won't be able to check the code until later tonight. Verify any drops the site reports before getting to excited about something.

Confirmed at the purchase screen that it wants to bill me 360 points (worth $4.50), rather than "free". Dang, can't get somethin' for nuthin' these days. :)

It's only worth it if you like to grind a lot. If you have a DS pick up one of the Castlevania games for that if you find them cheap and want to try out the old school Castlecania style single player.

But if you are JRPG player or if you've ever soloed in an MMO because you don't like people, you may enjoy Harmony of Darkness.

People will tell you that Symphony of the Night is the best and maybe you will agree. As a Castlevania fan who started with the original, SoTN is way down the list for me. After the the DS games, Simon's Quest, Dracula's Curse and Rondo of Blood.
