Xbox 360 Hardware/Accessories Questions Thread

When I play some games they don't fit on my tv. For example the battlefield demo, and NBA 2k6 are about an 1/4 of a inch off the screen to the left. I have plugged other stuff (i.e. dvd, ps2, xbox) into the same plugs on my tv and they fit on screen perfectly. I have the 360 screen settting to normal, and I have a normal CRT. Yet with those two games its off by 1/4 inch to the left no other games.
Does your XBL account still automatically renew itself after its expiration date?
yes, the only way to cancel is to call them.

Anyone else feel the rumble support for games are pretty anemic? I don't know why, but I seem to notice rumble (or lack thereof) in 360 games a lot more. Of course, there's Madden completely missing out on that and Top Spin only has a very faint rumble. I don't notice if Fight Night even has it.

Anyone know how (or have instructions) to re-install the USB door on the 360? Mine just came out in a few pieces, and I really can't figure out how to put it back together.
Okay I got a question here for ya folks...

As being a 16x9 TV owner with the 360 does it try to stretch mode any 4x3 DVDs or will it let you play them with either gray or black bars on the side? Many thanks for any answers in advance folks. :D
I was wondering this as well, so I tried it out with Scrubs, and it allows you to switch to 4X3 for fullscreen movies/shows with the black bars on the side.

You can adjust the vibration here:

To adjust the vibration settings for an Xbox 360 Controller, follow these steps:
1. Press the Xbox Guide button on the controller. Note The Xbox Guide button is the silver button in the center of the controller that has the green “X.”
2.Select Personal Settings, and then press the A button.3.Select Vibration, and then press the A button.

I think you can setup intensity IIRC

I tried that, and all I saw was the enable option and nothing about intensity.

I believe there was a problem with the earlier models usb doors. I remember someone from another thread saying they have since corrected the problem on new faceplates. He also had called Microsoft and they sent him a replacement faceplate for free as I recall.

I checked it too ditto. I googled and I kept finding articles indicating that the controllers would be able to have the option to change the rumble intensity but I cant find how or if the option did make it. I checked the user guide on XBOX.com and no mention on rumble. I'll ask around on other XBOX forums and will post here if I find anything new.

EDIT: Found out that there's no intensity setups as of right now on the system. Certain games do have the feature, FFXI is the only one that I heard mentioned...so far. It seems like its something that they could implement in the future as an update or just look for it on certain games.

I'm considering buying an Xbox 360 soon. I was wondering, will I able to sign up again on Xbox live under my old screen name or would I have to come up with a new one?

Also, my T.V. only has one Component input whichi is alread being used by my cable box. Are there any good component system selectors out there? Is signal deterioration inevitable?

Gotta make a new Gamertag.

If the live subscription hasn't been previously cancelled he can just recover the gamertag though right?

Alright, I didn't own the original Xbox, so I am wondering whether you can use two accounts on one Live subscription?
What's the best Headset for the 360 on the market?
What's up guys, I too would like this question answered.

I have gone through two 360 headsets: Plantronics Xbox 360 Live Headset X30 & Xbox 360 Headset (the one that's packaged with the premium bundle), and both of them aren't all that great. The official one isn't as durable as I first thought, and the Plantronics X30 one always has a hissing sound or sounds like you have a sock in your mouth; people have a hard time hearing me and it's pretty uncomfortable as well.

So I was wondering: What X360 (or original Xbox headsets assuming they work with the X360 controllers) headsets are pretty good at a decent price?

I've also heard that if it has 2.5mm pin, any headset would work with the 360. Is this true?

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I want to stream MP3's from an external harddrive hooked up directly to the 360(to avoid using media connect software). I've gotten it to work on my Lexar 128MB USB key drive, but the external enclosure I have, the 360 doesn;t recognize it. Does anyone know of ones that work? Preferably 3.5" enclosure with active cooling

I have been using the Halo 2 headset. It works pretty well and has a background noise cancel feature and 6 different ear pieces so you can find one that fits and is comfortable. Any 2.5mm jack headset will work with the 360 controller but you must use the volume feature from within the dashboard since you won't be able to use the mute and volume features on the official Xbox 360 headset. I would say to look at reviews for hands free headsets for cell phones and select a good one. There are a lot more hands free headsets available to choose from than Xbox specific headsets.

MS is going to release a wirless one some time this year. It might just be worth it to wait. I also have the Gamecom X30 and no one could hear me. I just exchanged it last night to see if there's a difference. I'll test it later today and let you know.

That wireless mic better be a helluva lot louder than the current one. I'd even settle for a wired one that was louder.

Why the fuck is the headset so fucking quiet? I'd assume it has something to do with the wireless controller technology... At least, I hope that's the excuse.

Whenever I play online games with the intended surround sound, the lound explosions, and whatnot, impair me from hearing the people I'm playing with.

I sent my 360 back after I got the red ring, and now I have to log on every time to my profile. Does anyone know how to make it log in automatically?

Check your personal settings....there should be an Auto Log-On. Hit the Guide button, then go from there....I had the same issue.

I have that too, with all volumes on high. Xbox headset sounds little better (last resort anyways since my 360 hs was broken)

Yes. I've played Halo 2 with someone who only had Silver.

I'm having some trouble joining games/private chat with a person on my friend's list. After downloading the new GRAW content (he did the same to), we cannot seem to join each other's games. However, if someone else made the game, we had no trouble joining that person's game and playing together. Maybe it's the router or something, but I have no idea what (I'm not really up to speed with wireless connections and such).

Anyway, I was hoping to get a few suggestions from CAGs. Thanks in advance.

Anyone know if theres anywhere to check your warranty status online (I think Dell does this)?
They cashed the check we sent in but I haven't gotten the certificate that they were going to rush to me...
I know you can call...but don't really want to right now.

I can't think of any other way to check.

Okay 360 newbie here with a few questions on preference. All I have is my premium, a bunch of games, and a xbox live kit yet to be set up.

1. Memory card purchase? Someone recommended I use it for game saves even if I have the premium. Sort of just in case the system crashes and you send it to Microsoft for repair.

2. Quick Charge Kit vs. Plug & Play. Seems it comes down to Plug & play deal with the cord and play non stop. Quick charge kit you have to get the second battery to swap out or stop playing while the first one chages. Did I hit the nail of the head or is there something I am missing?

3. Is there any other accessories I am missing, which are a must?
Have you guys tried turning up the volume in your personal settings besides just the headset? I dont think that its that low.
Thank you so much for this.

Does anyone know how to stop the annoying as hell echo through the headset? This happened one night during DoA 4 and it really sucks.

Not quite a accessory question, but anyone know if there is anyone selling the 360 games cases. Some of the cases for games i picked up used are pretty much trashed.

You can try Redoctane.com, they say they carry replacement cases for 360 games now, but I've yet to really see them in stock. Also check around at local video stores, particularly Blockbusters. Many either package game and DVD cases to sell or some even toss them out and may give you some if you ask around, but of course that's YMMV.

Some come up on ebay, but I've heard those can often just be original xbox game cases instead of the more transparent 360 ones.

I have a few questions before I buy a 360.

1) Do you think they will have a price drop in a few months before PS3 & Wii come out?

2) When buying an Xbox from sites like OverStock & Amazon do they come new with everything & a warranty?

3) Does the Xbox 360($400) come with everything needed to play online?

4) How hard is it to connect a 360 to your PC to play on Xbox Live?

5) What type of PC would you need? Internet Speed? etc?
~~~I have 3500+ AMD Athlon-64 Processor, 512 MB Memory, 200GB Hard Drive---And Verizon BroadBand Internet~~~
6) When playing Xbox Live do I play on my PC moniter or Normal TV?
Oh and one last important question:
7) Has anyone had any problems with their Xbox 360? I never buy the first patch of consoles (Unless its Nintendo) because a lot of time they mess up or are not they best and have a few problems. Any overheatings? Disk Read Errors? Problems with the disc tray not opening?
1) Probably not a price drop, if anything you'll see a free game or something packed in like the rumors say (most likely PGR 3), but no price drop.
2) As long as you don't buy a refurbished one, yes they do come new and should have the basic manufactuer's warranty.
3) Provided you have internet access and a modem to with that, then yes, it has everything you need.
4) Fairly simple.... http://www.xbox.com/en-US/support/connecttolive/xbox360/connectionmethods/windowsics.htm
5) The pc you have should have more than enough umph to to do it, but if you are going to use Internet connection sharing with a PC you do need that PC to have two network cards. If it doesn't a have second network card, they're pretty cheap ($10-15) and easy to install.
6) It would still be through the TV, only the internet access is affected by ICS. You could play on the PC monitor though if you wanted to using the VGA cables.
7) Have had mine since early December with no real problems to speak of. I had it freeze up maybe 3 times, but all those were while Oblivion was laoding (which is game known to freeze up on occasion for both 360 and PC).
