XBOX 360 Red Ring of Death FAQ: Soon to be known as the Red Dot of Death! :P

Yeah... if only I had waited a little bit longer. I ended up with a 90 nm when the 60 nm were available (just not readily). Ah well...

Got my 360 back today and it is indeed a June 07 unit, two weeks newer than my old one. Hopefully I don't get any graphical glitches like you mentioned, so far so good however.

I can confirm that my licenses from my old console were consolidated to my replacement unit. I tested it by downloading Carcassonne logged into my gamertag and then logged out and it showed it as a full version. What's nice is that it doesn't download the whole game, only the license key as it takes like 3 seconds to download. Microsoft just really needs to give you the ability to sort content in Download History, as it's kind of a pain trying to find the content you paid for scattered among all the free Demos, Trailers, and Themes that you've downloaded in the past.
Good to know info here Ruined. I am going to add this to the FAQ shortly.
Thanks
They also included a new letter in what you get back.

I went ahead and scanned it for you to add to the OP:

I been keeping up with this thread since my 2nd 360 RRODed 2 weeks ago. But I'm a bit worried. I shipped it on June 19, and I just looked at the status on the xbox web page and it says that my 360 is on the way back.

So my question is, Is a 2 week turnaround on RROD normal? I just have a feeling that it went to Texas, they turned it on and it worked and now they are sending it back.

Have you checked the serial number yet?

Speaking of which, I need to give this FAQ more spiced up look...suggestions?

That's about how long it took for mine to come back, but it was a refurbished unit which is most likely what they sent you.

Is the serial different? If it's not then I'd start to worry.

I think it has changed. I tried to register the one I shipped earlier today and I got an error. I assume that MS may have taken the old serial number out of circulation.

I'll keep the thread informed.

Just called them up and asked for a repeat repair, gotta wait again for a new coffin. Got my new ps3 to keep me busy in the meanwhile. Also, having halo 3 music as hold music is awesome.

What the hell?

I shipped my 360 off on June 25th. It was shipped via UPS ground and it arrived in Texas at the service center on Saturday. I thought you had special order UPS to deliver on Saturdays?

Then they emailed me on Sunday and said they already fixed it.

I check my repair status today and it says it is on its way back to me.

Is that fucking fast or am I crazy because I heard most people had to wait a couple weeks at best to get theirs back.

Oh well the quicker I get it back the better.

Why not just use the coffin they used to ship your 360 back? Just ask them for the shipping labels and then print them out.

I have mine saved for the inevitable 2nd 360 dying.

That is similar to mine I sent it off last tuesday, and I check today saying it was mailed back to me. I should get mine by saturday anyway if not thursday or friday. I guess we just got lucky.

Hmm...the 360 that they are sending back has the same serial number.

I wanted the same one back so this is good but hopefully this doesn't mean anything bad as well.

I wanted to mention something interesting after getting the Serial Number for my Refurbished box. My old boxes SN was "******* 727**" and the refurbished one they are sending me is SN "******* 729**". I seem to recall others mentioning that their refurbished boxes only have a manufacturing date a few weeks newer. Is it clear whether these refurbished boxes were actually manufactured almost a year ago at this point? Or are they just putting whatever manufacturing date they want to on the box? Because that strays dangerously close to Consumer fraud. If this is a refurbished box from July of last year, that would mean that one of the new HDMI boxes would of had to of RROD within weeks of initial deployment and was immediately recycled (unlikely). Just some conjecture, anyone have any thoughts on it?

Additionally, the nice fellow on the phone (Texas call center) named Lance claimed that all the refurbished Xbox 360's have all brand new parts internally and only the shells are re-used. He also stated his relief that I didn't immediately flip out on him upon the news that I would be getting a refurbished box back. It was mildly amusing.

Maybe a stupid question, but how do you tell what the serial number is before you get it back or did you already get it back? I find it sort of strange ours went so fast knowing my luck there is something wrong with the one I get back.

Alright I'll show you how to check...

Go here and log in:

http://service.xbox.com/servicesignin.aspx

Click on your 360.

Now it shows all the information on your new 360. The reason I know this is the new 360 is because it says my 360 is in warranty—it wasn't when I sent it in—and when you click on view warranty it says that my warranty ends in June 2009.

So if you wrote down your old serial number compare it to the one that is now listed.

I've checked that alot to know when it was shipped, and all that. It says I don't have anything registered... on the other page it has the reference number, tracking, and says it is shipped. Am I missing something? xD

Uh I don't know how else to explain it haha.

The serial number should be on the page with the tracking number and the four steps of the repair process.

By the way UPS says that my 360 will be here Thursday.

A one week turn around sounds pretty damn good to me.

That is the bad part it isn't listed there. I guess I'll know this evening. It is coming today I can tell by what it said.

Oh happy day. I shipped my dead 360 on June 19 got it back today. MS has gotten really good about the turnaround on these things. I know I've heard horror stories of people waiting months. While I'm happy to have my box back, a couple of things have me worried. I checked the serial of this 360 against the serial of the one I sent in. And lo and behold, they are the same. Now what's weird is that the manufacture date is different. Has anyone experienced that also. It's good that I have my box (I think) cuz I do have a couple XBLA games I bought. I just have a little anxiety about whether I'll be sending this one back too. Anyway, here's to a long life for this 360.

Thanks for all the support from the thread.

Now its time to get back to some car heist missions in GTA4.

I wouldn't worry about this...

MS will still fix any RROD problems for free.

Well, the thread I made about my 360 seems to have been deleted, so I'll post here.

Anyway, mine started freezing up recently, but the thing hasn't red ringed yet.

My launch 360 WILL NOT DIE!

I'm thinking about starting smoking, then I'll put my 360 on the carpet and shake it with a disc in it. If all those things don't work I'll put it in an enclosed entertainment center. Then maybe it will die. ;)

Seriously though, I kind of want it to die so I can send it in before the 3 years are up on the RROD warranty.

Got my Xbox 360 back from a UPS delivery guy who said I bet I be inside all weekend. I asked him if he knew it was a 360 and he said "Yeah, I deliver about 3 a day. They sure do break." After about 15 minutes of put my settings back into order I'm back to 100% with DRM intact because it's my original console. Besides the free one month Xbox Live card (which is really a 10 day card if you subtract the days I couldn't use the service). Nothing else really special inside.
I got my original 360 back today and it is working awesomely (uh I don't think that's a word).
I got back a refurb, but so far so good. I haven't really tested it yet. It at least works so far. Glad you guys got something good back hopefully I did as well.

According to his Blog, looks like dear old wombat got his red ring of death today.

Lets give him a warm RRoD Support Group Welcome shall we!

After you send your 360 to the service center and it arrives (they just delivered it to Mesquite today) how long does it take for them to report that they have it?

The UPS tracking says its only been there a few hours, and since its a holiday weekend, Im not expecting much action on it at all until next week, but curious about that first tidbit question.

It could be a day or a few days. You will never get a "full report" or autopsy on your 360. You will get a refurb and a standard apology from MS and that's it.

Yea I hear you, I dont even care about the full report, I was just curious as to how long it took for them to acknowledge that they received it. Thx for the answer.
Which Vizio is that?
It's the new 32 inch Plasma that came out a couple of weeks ago. I got it from Wal-Mart.

It takes about a day or two AFTER the UPS tracker confirms it was delivered at the repair center before it shows up on the Repair web page. Check the FAQ for the 4 part process. In the mean time start working on your backlog.

Question for you guys. Last night I purchased "No Country for Old Men" on marketplace, but it ended up taking 5+ hours to download it :O My system has been really acting up lately. My question is, if you bought a rental and didn't start watching it during the 14 day window and your system red rings BEFORE you watch the movie, can you get credit back with MS after you call in your 360? Or are you SoL?
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!

There are...... 3 lights!

I made this and this is going to be my new sig image. You and I will probably get a kick out of it more than most though.

I already bought a new 360 ;) thx for the answer though, I didnt think that sort of detail was going to be covered in the FAQ. With it being the 4th, I would imagine I wont see action on it till Monday, but at least I wont have to worry.
take that sticker off!
I probably should.

Well, I'm going to wait until 9pm to 12am as suggested in ITDEFX's original post about the CSRs.

This is a holiday so Support *might* be closed or on reduced hours. Feel free to call anytime and get that email with the UPS label print out.

You want to get your 360 back before SC4!!

Happy birthday to me. Mine just crapped out after a nice long weekend of celebrating. Funny thing is my 360 didn't even get any use during the 4th of July weekend.

Balls.

I was actually playing COD 4 in a custom game when it happened. So it couldn't have been karma. At least that's how I justify it in my head.
