General info
  • You cannot currently buy any Xbox 360 content on xbox.com using your account balance, you can only use an active credit card or PayPal. To use your balance, you must make purchases on your console. Unfortunately, even "purchasing" free content through the web site like trials requires an alternative method of payment tied to your account, though adding an empty MasterCard / Visa gift card that is registered for online purchases will work. Xbox One games can be purchased on the web site with your account balance.
  • Some sales are intended for Gold subscribers only, as noted within each section.
    On Xbox One, Gold trials of any length work for sales and Games with Gold. You must be an active Gold subscriber (paid or trial) to play Games with Gold purchases.
  • On Xbox 360, you must have at least a 1 month Gold subscription for sales and Games with Gold. Neither 48 hour trials, 14 day trials nor free weekends qualify.

What is this?
Game prices in the Xbox store have a UTC end date associated with them. These dates generally fall into 5 categories :
  1. The item is currently on sale. These are usually the weekly sale items that end Tuesday mornings at 09:59:59 UTC.
  2. The item will go on sale, usually within 2-3 weeks. These are usually set to switch at 23:59:59 UTC, like the weekly sale on Monday evenings. Some of the major annual sales (Spring, Summer, Black Friday, Holiday) start on Thursday evening UTC, and some times appear to be random.
  3. The item is on Game Pass and is not currently or going to be on sale in the next few weeks. Third party games generally cluster around 09:59:59 UTC on the 1st and 16th of each month. Currently, at least one game is associated with every 1st and 16th through January 2025. The dates then spread out, ending with Human Fall Flat on July 1, 2028.
  4. First party and EA Play titles are farther out, starting in 2049, with many in 2799 and 9998.
  5. No date - some items do not have a price and so don't have a date. If the item is part of a bundle that has a price, the date from the bundle is used.
The list below uses the dates associated with games on Game Pass and EA Play. Time stamps in red are the regular Game Pass departure times and titles in red are confirmed to be leaving, either from Microsoft's regular news postings or by devs / publishers. Items available through Game Pass Core, currently on sale or not available for purchase are also color coded.

The date associated with a Game Pass game is not a guarantee it will leave on that date, but since March 2023 when the price data started getting analyzed, every game that's left Game Pass had been flagged as leaving on that date. It's given a number of people an extra heads up on the generally 2 week notice Microsoft provides.

And yeah don't know how your friend's skipped over that during the initial anime at Suncoast/Media Play/Tower Records right next to the porn section. It is kinda the perfect growing up anime in that realization of "Wow, being a teenager sure is depressing!" And the characters were about same age as me as it was released at the time.

I'm very interested to hear your thoughts after the movie. Just know if you ever get to the Rebuild movies that those veer WAAAAAAAY off from the anime and basically goes full on mecha anime. Also all the interviews and resources for Hideki Anno and his mindset during the development of the series is also a great read/watch when you finish the main series in full.

Like I said before, it's a service issue, not a piracy issue. If people just wanted to save $60 per game then Steam would never have become as extremely successful as it is. Remember when people used to download illegal MP3s? That basically went away when Apple iTunes came along and offered people a way to buy and own digital music. Same with Netflix, etc.. I think people actually want and enjoy having, collecting and owning large digital libraries.

What's the point of having the best exclusive games in the business if you're forced to play them at 720p 20fps? Or the fact that the only way to play old Nintendo games is through emulation or pay 300 times MSRP from black market ebay sellers? Nintendo are the ones creating their own black market. It's 2024, if Nintendo doesn't want to offer their games at a higher resolution than 720p then somebody else will. Also Yuzu was making $30,000 per month from Patreon for early access builds of their emulator which is what probably landed them in trouble. Instead of this money going to Nintendo it was going to Yuzu so I don't think it was about saving $60 as clearly there were people willing to fund this project in order to play their games at a higher resolution and framerate.

Last analogy is guns, thinking that somehow banning all guns means that criminals won't be able to get their hands on guns. Common sense says that's not true. Or that Denuvo in PC games will somehow prevent piracy when the reality is that pirates get to play games day 1 free of DRM and Denuvo. It's the honest consumers that always get shafted. You will never have an industry with 0% piracy rate but what Nintendo has shown is that despite the Switch being hacked since the first day it was released, they were still able to make record profits. Imagine how much more money they could make if they were pro consumer and actually gave the people what they wanted. Instead Nintendo prefers to act as the mental and emotional abusers, removing games from their service just to create artificial FOMO. Could you imagine if Playstation and Xbox actually operated that way? "Hey! Buy Halo NOW, because we are removing the game from the service next month forever!" What do you think would happen if PS removed God of War from their service? People would just find a way to pirate it. You can cry about it all you want, but facts are facts.

I agree with the sentiment, but the people using emulators just to increase performance of games they are still financially supporting are a tiny minority. People straight pirating the games through emulators are probably a bit smaller than average, but there are couple reasons for that. You need a semi-beefy PC, and the console itself if pretty easy to pirate on. The absolute cheapest option is what a lot of people are willing/able to do tobaccos something, and for Switch it is buying a used console and modding it.

How does nearly anyone that is ordered to pay exuberant amounts of money after a ruling, whether right or wrong, supposed to do it? Settlement amounts have been ridiculous for a long time now.

Exorbitant amounts would be a different story.

Yuzu agreed to settle on this, they realized how fucked they were and I guarantee legal fees combined with zero revenue over the 5 years the process would have taken would have been far greater than 2.4M.

Part of the legal complaint that was filed was that Yuzu was created / maintained by a business and they had almost 7k supporters on Patreon totaling about $28k per month. It would take 7 years consistently earning $28k monthly to total $2.4m, but clearly the company has had revenue. Definitely a different situation than most emulators, I can't recall any modern examples where an emulator is managed by a company making income directly related to an emulator, even if the program itself is not being sold.

Random individual developers will have their own donation links or Patreons (the guy making widescreen hacks and SA-1 mods to SNES games comes to mind) but never on that scale for a current system being widely pirated.

Citra is the real loss given that the 3DS has already been Ol' Yeller'd.

I am really interested to see if they go after anyone else. I have the Drastic NDS emulator on my phone and paid 4.99 on the google play store to get the no ads and some other perks. Being paid definitely opens it up for a suit. It has 1m downloads so would be an easy couple million for Nintendo to take.

They can solve the unavailability AND underpowered issues after they release the new Switch3DS.

Accepts every handheld Nintendo cartridge. Full digital catalog of every game they can legally sell from their entire history as a company. Unhackable. Super turbo processor thingies so it makes the pixels look real good and stuff.

Or just some fraction of those things would be acceptable.

Shutting down Yuzu is 1 thing, shutting down Citra is fuckin crazy. The 3DS eShop isn't even available anymore, you literally can't buy new 3DS games if you wanted to. This isn't an attack on piracy, it's an attack on videogame preservation

Nintendo doesn't want to make money and sell you a game but they'll fine you and put you in jail for wanting to play something that they don't want to sell you. Somebody make it make sense.

Citra died as collateral damage since the same organization was behind it. It was not a focus. It being officially dead doesn't do a whole lot. 3DS has been dead for like 5 years now. The whole library is out and the emulator runs everything fine with minor exceptions. There are thousands of places you could still get the files. Yuzu being mirrored is similar, but since new games are still coming out future games could not run well, so it's more annoying there.

This one is not surprising. Every time you hear about a group like this going down its because they are dumb, insane, or too confident (dumb). They had a paid Patreon that anyone could join for a fee, of course Nintendo was going to get in there. It was beyond stupid to keep everything organized on the backend through Discord. The vast majority of emulation projects have managed to stay out of legal trouble.

So, a game called 'Super Mariot Jumpman Adventures' just came out on xbox and it's a shameless Mario clone. The description says you have to rescue Princess Peach from Bowser, fight piranha plants and save the Mushroom Kingdom. I genuinely can't believe this is real and give it a week before it's gone.

I'd buy it but it has no achievements and will likely be pulled with zero way to redownload even if purchased.

IIRC, the $10 was 9,300. $25 went from 23k to 23,750 and $50 went from 46k to 47,500. There are posts in the Rewards subreddit about it, but most are dealing with EU prices. $100 is now 95k, someone said that's up from 91k.

Appear to be conflicting reports on Amazon credit, some are saying they went up, others saying it went down.
 
The other day I thought the Amazon and Target rewards seemed higher than normal. I have no idea what the cost used to be though so wrote it off as remembering wrong.
 
Well, that sucks. Can confirm mine are up too. $25 and $50 went up 750 and 1500 each respectively. The $100 is now no longer a discount over getting $3 and up, and is 95,000 points. In the US

Finally phasing out rewards maybe? I don't grind like you guys and it stopped being possible to passively earn rewards worth anything months ago. I'm glad they let me know when I earn 4 points at a time from my purchases though.
 
I highly doubt they’re phasing them out. They recently added them to be more prominently displayed on the Xbox dash. Probably just devaluing them like everything else recently lol

I saw a single listing for this on Gameflip for $8 and wondered why I hadn’t heard any controversy lol guess it’s new. For anyone wanting to take a gamble or add it to library, go get that code 😂

Unicorn Overlord is starting to pop up on GF as well, but they start at $45.

What blows my mind is that Rockstar has already shown how this works. Make a killer SP campaign witha compelling story for the people who want it. Use all of those assets to make an online mode which is optional and separate, but will be good enough to have a dedicated base. Everyone wins.

Forcing the two concepts into some ungodly horror rarely works. The solo players want more depth in gameplay and storytelling, the MP crowd want more reasons to stick around.

Halo almost achieved this, but the MP was still basically a beta and had less features than the MCC. If Hermy Porter had an online mode, horde mode, etc, people would play it.

All they had to do was make dlc for Hogwarts, and that probably would have sold better than Gotham Knights and Suicide Squad combined. Unless they get a savy ceo in there WB games division will be getting sold off in the near future I imagine.

It's all about shareholders. Stocks don't like it when profits boom when a game finally comes out and inevitably don't continue to go up because they can't release a $70 killer app every 3-6 months. It's so very stupid.

Definitely glad now that I cashed out like $120 a few months ago. Might be able to squeeze another $20 out of this before it becomes completely useless. Good ride while it lasted.

I got more points than ever the last two months. Still getting a month of GPU added to my subscription each month for the same price. Still have plenty of points to get whatever else with. Not even close to useless for me. If you cashed out I understand why you hope it dies, but as of now it's fairly healthy. Sorry.

You can't fix these idiot companies chasing service-game revenue streams. Once your company goes public and you are constantly responding to shareholder's interests and executive compensation packages then there is simply no hope. They want to design games around revenue streams and not the other way around. They don't love games, and they don't allow their production studios to function autonomously. It's all over at that point. Like I would have thought that Avengers and all of these failed big-budget service games would have been an eye-opener to people but apparently not. They just want money before games; always putting the cart before the horse.

I do not hope it dies and I am sure there are points to be had if you do the work. I just know that I was able to put on points before with relatively little effort and it is not worth it to me at this point. These things happen though. Trading games for store credit used to be easy, but now you have to really put in the time to make it work. I hope the rewards program continues to provide enough for those who put in the effort.
