• You cannot currently buy any Xbox 360 content on xbox.com using your account balance, you can only use an active credit card or PayPal. To use your balance, you must make purchases on your console. Unfortunately, even "purchasing" free content through the web site like trials requires an alternative method of payment tied to your account, though adding an empty MasterCard / Visa gift card that is registered for online purchases will work. Xbox One games can be purchased on the web site with your account balance.
• Some sales are intended for Gold subscribers only, as noted within each section.
  On Xbox One, Gold trials of any length work for sales and Games with Gold. You must be an active Gold subscriber (paid or trial) to play Games with Gold purchases.

What is this?

Game prices in the Xbox store have a UTC end date associated with them. These dates generally fall into 5 categories :

1. The item is currently on sale. These are usually the weekly sale items that end Tuesday mornings at 09:59:59 UTC.
2. The item will go on sale, usually within 2-3 weeks. These are usually set to switch at 23:59:59 UTC, like the weekly sale on Monday evenings. Some of the major annual sales (Spring, Summer, Black Friday, Holiday) start on Thursday evening UTC, and some times appear to be random.
3. The item is on Game Pass and is not currently or going to be on sale in the next few weeks. Third party games generally cluster around 09:59:59 UTC on the 1st and 16th of each month. Currently, at least one game is associated with every 1st and 16th through January 2026. The dates then spread out, ending with Human Fall Flat on July 1, 2028.
4. First party and EA Play titles are farther out, starting in 2049, with many in 2799 and 9998.
5. No date - some items do not have a price and so don't have a date. If the item is part of a bundle that has a price, the date from the bundle is used.

The list below uses the dates associated with games on Game Pass and EA Play. Time stamps in red are the regular Game Pass departure times and titles in red are confirmed to be leaving, either from Microsoft's regular news postings or by devs / publishers. Items available through Game Pass Core, currently on sale or not available for purchase are also color coded.

The date associated with a Game Pass game is not a guarantee it will leave on that date, but since March 2023 when the price data started getting analyzed, every game that's left Game Pass had been flagged as leaving on that date. It's given a number of people an extra heads up on the generally 2 week notice Microsoft provides.

I wish there was a vote button on here, but do you all pay for movie/tv streaming services? I am just as opposed to paying $20/month for Netflix as I am for GPU. Just curious as I've always had a hard time with the "renting" aspect of these models.

Hopefully MS Rewards/Ambassadors keeps me on GPU with minimal expense. As others have stated, I wouldn't pay $20 out of pocket for the service. We all knew this was coming though, and the price does roughly track with inflation the past several years

I've been thinknig about that analogy a lot lately too. The thing is, Gamepass Ultimate is almost exactly like paying for a Netflix account. Great deal while you use it a ton; not if you won't. Same as like an FF XIV subscription. But me for me, Netflix is just one of several services that I'd use, and HBO, Hulu/ESPN, Prime, and Crunchyroll are more important. I don't sit around watching shows all day with my partner. That makes Netflix an easy cut; other stuff costs less. There's several other services I need to use. Prime comes first.

Xbox GPU is the same way. I game on like four systems. It doesn't take most of my attention. I had it for years and I barely used it. It was free money for them. So I make due with what else I have.

These services always make you feel naked and afraid like you're missing out on something when disconnected. But when you have them, you don't use them much. They are non-essential.

OTTH, If you use Xbox GPU a ton then you know you require it. it's not a big deal.

Yep, I was thinking about that one earlier today too. MS really makes the middle "standard" tier look undesirable, to make Ultimate look like the much better deal. They want everybody on Ultimate. guess I'm not the only who noticed that.

The other thing I noticed is:

• PC Game Pass is also getting a price increase, from $9.99 per month to $11.99.
• PC Game Pass will also continue to get day one games.
• VERSUS
• New users on Xbox Game Pass in the near future will be greeted by a new Xbox Game Pass "Standard." This is more like EA Access, which includes Xbox's back catalogue, and doesn't include day one games. This will be priced at $14.99 per month

#1) PC subs are getting charged less, plus they are keeping day1 games.

IF Microsoft was to start putting its games on ps5 after a 12 month exclusivity window (IF), why would anyone really need an Xbox if they could play both company’s games on PlayStation?

And this is not taking into account the inevitable price hike for GP that is almost certainly coming in the next 12 months. GP is really really good, but is at as good at $50 for 3 months? $60? I just don’t see how this can be good for Xbox if this happens.

But Microsoft raising prices again is a good indicator that they're recognizing that there's just not as much growth to be found in new users as there is in getting more profit from existing ones. Just be glad they haven't sold out (yet) to the advertising industry like the video streaming sites all have.

Tbf, current Game Pass is $11/month and doesn't include Gold, but the new Game Pass Standard does but GPU itself used to be $15 until recently..
The $5 difference is now attributable to day 1 games, EA Access + Riot "Access", Perks (which are mostly useless imo) and Xcloud. Xcloud would be a much better selling point if they would allow for streaming owned titles already but I imagine that the second that happens, there'll be yet another price increase.

I wonder if they'll change the ratio sooner rather than later.
At $10, it's about $130 - $140 to stack up 3 years (based on the ratio of redeeming while having a current subscription).
But there's stacking limits and I'm not sure how those are affected by conversion.

I did the 3-year conversion of Gamepass Ultimate last June when you were still getting the 1:1 conversion. Then was able to stack 9 months during the Microsoft rewards glitch when one-month codes were redeemed for three months. Ever since they nerfed earning rewards points I haven't been bothering as much. I have been using the one-month auto-redeem for Ultimate to use up my remaining points for the past few months since they announced COD was being added.

I just redeemed my last remaining rewards points for 4 months worth of codes which takes me til the end of June 2027. Besides adding a month here and there if I have enough rewards points I will be done with Ultimate when my subscription ends.

I let my PS Plus sub expire last month after their increase, and I knew this was coming eventually. My Ultimate sub is up in December, so I'm going to see where the 3:2 conversion sits. I already bought a few games physically I otherwise played on Game Pass, and I'll probably go through the Gold titles to see if there's anything I want to play that I don't have elsewhere already. I, like many, play on everything, so without the conversion (the old 1:1 conversation was great!), I have a hard time justifying Game Pass (as much as I like playing games day one or that I wouldn't otherwise buy).

Same, although I'm sure those people exist. Most I've paid is $7-8 via discounted three-month codes when they're on sale, and never on a recurring monthly basis like Netflix.

Makes me wonder if the suits at the top who don't understand how any of this actually works look at the #s and assume they have 20 million subscribers x $20 per month and then don't understand why the numbers don't actually reflect that.

As much as I want to dunk on Microsoft / Xbox suits being completely out of touch with reality in the obvious Microsoft Campus echochamber that we know exists, this kind of tracking is so simple that I'm sure they are able to make semi-informed calls about them.

These kind of splits would be extremely easy to break down with a few charts and/or graphs. Percentage of month to month subs, percentage of "discounted" subs from conversions, "free" users on the same console and so on. At bare minimum they should understand that the vast majority are not month to month.

It is definitely a reaction to PS+'s recent changes though. The core membership is $5 less annually and the new tiers more or less match up except with new games instead of previous generation games being swapped at the top tier.

They have everyone fooled by paying through annual installments. Worse than that, we don't own anything. The real rapey feeling is when you finally disconnect: That's it? I have nothing now? It's like the feeling the weeks after a bad sexual encounter where someone took advantage of you.

$240/year is a LOT to pay for an Arcade machine. Literally the cost to own ~five new release games every single year.

Do you feel ripped off when your Netflix subscription ends and you don't own anything? Of course not. And switching to PC isn't easy either for the simple reason that it's an open platform where unscrupulous people can do anything. You know the online game for Resident Evil 3, Resistance? A hacker made it so that matchmaking players can't join each other through the game's official matchmaking and have to invite each other for custom games. They use Discord or Steam chat to organize games.

There was an issue in Blazblue where connecting to another player can let them disable Windows Defender firewall and let them install malware on your system. A different issue for Guilty Gear lets someone change your in-game information so that you can't connect to the server or run the game. I think the Dark Souls PC port had a similar issue and forced From Software to take the server down to fix it.

EA is evolving shitty battlepass design to the next level.

Going forward, they are cutting the pass down from. 110 to 60 tiers by removing all the trash, but will now sell 2 seperate passes that last half as long during the same time frame. You will ONLY be able to buy a pass with a real money $10 purchase. Any existing or future coins earned can't be used to buy passes.

They've been getting more bold with microtransactions since the FF7 event, but I think this is the worst monetization change I've seen for the game that has consistently had the worst passes in the genre. Hopefully this flops and does not spread to other games.

This is the industry standard now TBH. I've noticed with MTG Arena they have switched to cash only pre-orders for new sets and limited time packages. The only reason they haven't dared removing gem purchases of quarterly battlepasses is because they would overnight destroy the only thing they're really good for. Sounds like EA has dared and it won't go well for them.

i dont know about the animated movie but 185 DLC is mostly individual costumes. You can just buy them bundled of course. Im hoping Xbox discounts DLC before closing the marketplace because ive been keeping an eye on bundles for this game(though the game is infamously known to have all DLC characters within the disc and the DLC just unlocks them )

I have the opposite issue. Whenever I sub to a streaming service I feel ripped off by all the crap I have bought and owned over the years. We are experiencing the same thing on Arena, brother. I used to be able to pre-purchase the upcoming season pass through gems, in order to get the sleeve and avatar bonuses along with it. Like you said, now they took that away and it's cash only. So I don't even order them anymore. I let the pre-order pass on by, and then buy about every other one using gems, only while in-season.

I'm happy to spend a little money on the game annually. But not when it's predatory. The (lack of) knock-out system for acquiring rare and mythic cards is atrocious. Have you seen the pull rates for The Big Score mythics from OTJ packs?? horrible. You also have certain sets where the bonus sheet actually takes up your rare slot. Like the Surveil Lands in MKM are bonus rares in paper packs, but they take your rare slot on Arena.

People aren't afraid of spending a little bit of money on the games they love. They just don't like being taken advantage of. Or being fooled, with unscrupulous currency conversion, or obfuscated paywalling.

I've been 100% F2P on Arena outside the $15 welcome package and I bought Dogmeat to support Bethesda (only way I could justify it to myself). I have like 11k gems I just use for the battlepasses and it just grows from the free gem dailies, R/M protection and draft tokens. I was actually about to quit the game because the meta has become way too fast thanks to a bloated schedule and constant power creep needed to sell paper. But they ing got me with the quintessential Redwall/Mouse Guard set. I can't say no to collecting it, so the daily grind continues lol.

Also the bonus sheet was proven to be a bug eating the rare slot. That's not how MH3 was supposed to work, but like most things Arena they ed it up again with a buggy mess. Supposed to take the place of the common slot but with it being so rare most people don't notice. I did have it happen once but 99% of standard is pretty much chaff anyway so I couldn't be fussed.

Stepping back, my disengagement with Arena is less the predatory pricing because it's easy to ignore as F2P. What I can't stand is the stagnate meta and the WotC dickriders proclaiming the game is in a great state. I mainly play historic now but even that has become wildly unbalanced thanks to zero bans (how is Glavanic Discharge not a more powerful Lightning Bolt just because it can't go face? Bolt is banned for a reason and this is absolutely bonkers broken) and MH3 essentially destroying the format, making it timeless 2.0 without monkey.

I am less annoyed by the price hike than I am by the 13 month limit. If nothing else I guess I will either rack up a ton of MS reward points for the next two years... or just cash out of that and be done with it.

I am with everyone else though, as soon as I would have to actually pay money for Game Pass I am done. For $240 I can easily buy the few games a year I am interested in.

The 13 months restriction is probably the most alarming about this update, as it signals an annual review of Game Pass by MS. This means they're not confident in pricing YOY and could increase the prices each September. While I don't see that happening a third year in a row, it does mean they're reigning it in for sustainability as they finally have the data to support the model. Game Pass started as a dream and now they're shaping it for reality.

I can't fault that and so long as they have summers like this past one with a ton of games I'm interested in coming, I can't see how I wouldn't find incredible value out of it.
