General info
  • You cannot currently buy any Xbox 360 content on xbox.com using your account balance, you can only use an active credit card or PayPal. To use your balance, you must make purchases on your console. Unfortunately, even "purchasing" free content through the web site like trials requires an alternative method of payment tied to your account, though adding an empty MasterCard / Visa gift card that is registered for online purchases will work. Xbox One games can be purchased on the web site with your account balance.
  • Some sales are intended for Gold subscribers only, as noted within each section.
    On Xbox One, Gold trials of any length work for sales and Games with Gold. You must be an active Gold subscriber (paid or trial) to play Games with Gold purchases.
  • On Xbox 360, you must have at least a 1 month Gold subscription for sales and Games with Gold. Neither 48 hour trials, 14 day trials nor free weekends qualify.

What is this?
Game prices in the Xbox store have a UTC end date associated with them. These dates generally fall into 5 categories :
  1. The item is currently on sale. These are usually the weekly sale items that end Tuesday mornings at 09:59:59 UTC.
  2. The item will go on sale, usually within 2-3 weeks. These are usually set to switch at 23:59:59 UTC, like the weekly sale on Monday evenings. Some of the major annual sales (Spring, Summer, Black Friday, Holiday) start on Thursday evening UTC, and some times appear to be random.
  3. The item is on Game Pass and is not currently or going to be on sale in the next few weeks. Third party games generally cluster around 09:59:59 UTC on the 1st and 16th of each month. Currently, at least one game is associated with every 1st and 16th through January 2026. The dates then spread out, ending with Human Fall Flat on July 1, 2028.
  4. First party and EA Play titles are farther out, starting in 2049, with many in 2799 and 9998.
  5. No date - some items do not have a price and so don't have a date. If the item is part of a bundle that has a price, the date from the bundle is used.
The list below uses the dates associated with games on Game Pass and EA Play. Time stamps in red are the regular Game Pass departure times and titles in red are confirmed to be leaving, either from Microsoft's regular news postings or by devs / publishers. Items available through Game Pass Core, currently on sale or not available for purchase are also color coded.

The date associated with a Game Pass game is not a guarantee it will leave on that date, but since March 2023 when the price data started getting analyzed, every game that's left Game Pass had been flagged as leaving on that date. It's given a number of people an extra heads up on the generally 2 week notice Microsoft provides.

Worth highlighting that Ninja Gaiden Black 1 is on sale. This version is Xbox OG (and BC) exclusive, the Master Collection has Sigma instead. The physical version has stuck around $30, and I think this is the first time the digital version has been discounted.

Man, FC Primal and Stick of Truth can be picked up for so cheap that it's not even worth stressing over. I'm more glad that Fractured but Whole was added to Game Pass since it's more expensive. Yes it is, and at first glance I was upset the Grandia Collection isn't on the list, but I also remembered that they doing these Anime Month sales in 2 parts.
 
So, what's the consensus on the difficulty level of NGB2? I tried playing the sigmas, but just couldn't get too far in them without hitting a wall. And it's comical, because I've beaten NG1-3 on NES...guess I just don't have patience for stupid hard games anymore, haha.

Looking around a bit, it has the lower enemy count and overall balancing of Sigma 2.

Different styles of gameplay. The 3D Ninja Gaidens you really gotta learn the the battle system.

I honestly don’t think it’s too bad. Had been a while since I played Ninja Gaiden 2 and this version seems a bit easier than I remember unless I’ve just become a better gamer (unlikely, lol). Easier than the Dark Souls games IMO.

Grandia HD Collection is still set with 9998 and I'm not seeing anything yet for a mid-month set. Though it's still early.

Master Collection has Sigma 1 and Sigma 2, remastered into 4K. These are more like "Director's Cut" editions of 1 and 2. A couple new bosses, weapons, challenges, and playable characters, originally created to make them more appealing on PS3 after timed Xbox exclusivity. In theory, that should make them better, but they also rebalanced the game to have lower enemy counts with higher health and damage. This changes the flow of the game, with conflicting opinions about it making it both easier AND hard.

They also censored the gore in Sigma 2, something that was to help performance on PS3, that was carried forward into Master Collection. A lot of longtime fans hate the balancing changes and swear by Black 1 and the original NG2. Koei Tecmo said they lost the original source code for 1 and 2 when asked why they only included the less popular versions in the collection. The original director of 1 and 2 got fired for being an asshole, so all the Sigma changes were made by different leadership.

Master Collection also has the Razor's Edge version of NG3, but that is a straight upgrade.

Master Collection versions are fine if you just want to play them, all this other stuff is kind of just noise unless you LOVE the games and get deep into the series.

It sounds like the plan is for all Xbox studios to eventually be releasing on all viable platforms. Somehow make the future Xbox consoles with zero exclusives appealing in the future purely with innovation.

To me it’ll be innovation and GamePass. The number of great new games coming to GP this year is astounding. This month alone is probably one of the best ever.

If they continue like they have planned this year, that’ll continue to hook me in.

I'll pass on innovation for hardware since the equation was solved long ago. There's a reason every gimmick has come and gone. Game Pass is all I need at this point, and for exclusives to finally die. I've been doing my part only buying games at this point that are on all platforms, in the rare event I even have to now.

I just did a check for 2024 game purchases and all I bought was Unicorn Overlord, Wizard with a Gun, Mad Max, Diablo IV expansion, WoW expansion, Squirrel with a Gun, and Okami. Only three were new releases, which is WILD for an entire year. Previous to Game Pass, my purchases of new releases per year was easily 10-15+. No regrets.

I hope they pull off some cool stuff. Mainly wonder how a Xbox portable fairs due to all the other competitors. Now a Xbox / windows handheld where we can install steam lol better yet dual boot SteamOS and XboxOS / Windows!

So my suspicion is nobody wants to be first through the wall when it comes to answering the question: what happens when a console can play both Xbox AND Playstation games? Given Steam hosts dozens of Sony first party titles now, it's in their best interest to stay neutral on PC. Steamdeck is a bit of a Trojan Horse here when considering alternatives like XBPlay that streams games off an Xbox or Game Pass, but doesn't quite get their hands dirty yet.

It's kind of a 3-way standoff at this point of who blinks first.

All very good points. My plan right now is Switch 2. And continue to save Bing points for whatever Microsoft has next (or Amazon gift cards lol).

What kind of innovation are you thinking of for Xbox?

Speaking of PS VR I have yet to set it up lol. For those who used it can I severely limit my space or play sitting?

They should just release a $200 Xbox Portal that can stream Game Pass. The Xbox Portable will be too big, heavy, with poor battery life.

That already exists. It's called the Logitech G Cloud. Nobody wanted it.

If they were to actually make a portable that doesn't need it's own case to be portable like a DS and under $500 then they'd have something I'd want. Otherwise this is a doomed endeavor.
 
Also was the point of that "This is an XBox" advertisement campaign just to get everybody to clown on it for a week and then immediately forget about it? Usually there's some kinda new feature or something to advertise to waste your time putting that shit out there (like say announce it'll now be on MOST Smart TV's or even on Apple TV) and instead they put out there with no announcement to go with it and it got clowned on and seemingly died on arrival.

not only be able to play both xbox and ps games, it needs to work with gamepass.
at this point, I'm looking at what MS has done with the surface line of laptops. A console that runs a xbox flavor of windows is the way to go next gen.

The answer is, for the most part, yes. Many games can be enjoyed seated. Some games you just have to move way too much for it to be practical. You will probably find a chair with no arms your best bet. It can be tough to play on a couch sometimes because the couch can get in your way
