Welcome to the Xbox Deals and Discussion thread.

General info
  • You cannot currently buy any Xbox 360 content on xbox.com using your account balance, you can only use an active credit card or PayPal. To use your balance, you must make purchases on your console. Unfortunately, even "purchasing" free content through the web site like trials requires an alternative method of payment tied to your account, though adding an empty MasterCard / Visa gift card that is registered for online purchases will work. Xbox One games can be purchased on the web site with your account balance.
  • Some sales are intended for Gold subscribers only, as noted within each section.
On Xbox One, Gold trials of any length work for sales and Games with Gold. You must be an active Gold subscriber (paid or trial) to play Games with Gold purchases.
  • On Xbox 360, you must have at least a 1 month Gold subscription for sales and Games with Gold. Neither 48 hour trials, 14 day trials nor free weekends qualify.
  • All known sales and information on sales should make their way into the OP. Major Nelson usually updates his blog with new sales information every Tuesday.
  • ALL OFFERS ARE SUBJECT TO CHANGE! No information within this thread can or should be construed as accurate (or still valid), therefore ...
  • Always verify Xbox Live Marketplace prices before your purchase!
  • Spend wisely, have fun, and enjoy!

Game Pass potential departure dates

Last updated - 2025-03-15
What is this?
Game prices in the Xbox store have a UTC end date associated with them. These dates generally fall into 5 categories :
  1. The item is currently on sale. These are usually the weekly sale items that end Tuesday mornings at 09:59:59 UTC.
  2. The item will go on sale, usually within 2-3 weeks. These are usually set to switch at 23:59:59 UTC, like the weekly sale on Monday evenings. Some of the major annual sales (Spring, Summer, Black Friday, Holiday) start on Thursday evening UTC, and some times appear to be random.
  3. The item is on Game Pass and is not currently or going to be on sale in the next few weeks. Third party games generally cluster around 09:59:59 UTC on the 1st and 16th of each month. Currently, at least one game is associated with every 1st and 16th through January 2026. The dates then spread out, ending with Human Fall Flat on July 1, 2028.
  4. First party and EA Play titles are farther out, starting in 2049, with many in 2799 and 9998.
  5. No date - some items do not have a price and so don't have a date. If the item is part of a bundle that has a price, the date from the bundle is used.
The list below uses the dates associated with games on Game Pass and EA Play. Time stamps in red are the regular Game Pass departure times and titles in red are confirmed to be leaving, either from Microsoft's regular news postings or by devs / publishers. Items available through Game Pass Core, currently on sale or not available for purchase are also color coded.

The date associated with a Game Pass game is not a guarantee it will leave on that date, but since March 2023 when the price data started getting analyzed, every game that's left Game Pass had been flagged as leaving on that date. It's given a number of people an extra heads up on the generally 2 week notice Microsoft provides.

If you have any questions about the list, please ask in the thread.

Right so
Under that scenario it really is over for Xbox then. You might as well call your company Gamepass. Because a customer is either in it for Gamepass, or else they're out.

Words are just words, and apparently "Xbox" doesn't mean anything anymore. If everything is an Xbox. If it's not going to be a console system. It's one in the sea of many other digital distribution platforms. "Xbox" would just be the MS store's app then.

By losing their own console they would also lose the ability to charge people for paid multiplayer. Do you see? That's the whole point. If you don't have a home, then customers can just go play in someone else's home. The other platforms don't need ya. In fact you're not welcome; they take their own cuts.

People play on Xbox in order to have an Xbox console as their home. They like the interface, presentation, and layout. If "80% of customers are choosing Gamepass Ultimate," then somewhere around ~20% or something are PC only. If it's not working for corporate then fine. But then you're also applying a tourniquet and chopping off your leg in order to survive. You no longer get to stand on that leg anymore. People don't pay for Xbox paid multiplayer on other branded devices. You don't get to have it both ways. Your Gamepass business IS having a modern, in-house console system.

If one wants to sell a premium digital service then you have to offer something of value. Well, current subscription number totals tell you where the market currently values Gamepass Ultimate. Do you know what happens to that market share if you take away the console?

One thing is abundantly clear. Xbox is currently at a crossroads, and 6-9 months ago the company still had zero clue where they were headed. I wonder what they've decided. Customers aren't going to pay $20/month just to be your friend.

Microsoft will have another Xbox home console but the routes they are currently choosing automatically means that fewer people are going to buy into it next cycle, if they can play your games on other platforms. That is where we are at today. It really seems like they don't have a direction. Each new press release and Pow wow tee-up continues to prove that point. They don't appreciate the delicate nature of these symbiotic relationships. Like I honestly don't know what they're doing unless they plan to play extreme hardball with Elder Scrolls 6 and CoD in a couple years. Microsoft doesn't know what they're doing either. They are making this stuff up as they go along. Like I've said before, they are the dog that caught the car.
You actually make some really good points I hadn't thought about before. I currently don't game enough to make Ultimate worth it. I only have core so that I can play multi-player pretty much. If there is no Xbox console are they still going to charge people $20/month or more bc they will eventually raise the price. Ultimate is only a good deal bc it combined GP Core and GP Console. But with no console core is essentially useless.

I completely agree. Microsoft has one foot on Xbox and one in the cloud. I play free to play games online or on Nintendo where it's like 1/20th the cost to play online.

Microsoft and their studios have great games. I don't think they can grow their subscriber base charging $15-$20 a month. That's simply too much for all but the most extreme Xbox fan.

Seems Microsoft’s ultimate goal is for everyone to subscribe to Game Pass. I think they’re hoping that releasing select games on other platforms will entice non-Xbox owners to become Game Pass subscribers (via phone, tablet, PC, whatever devices they can get).

I would release games day 1 on Xbox and game pass. This helps Xbox players still feel slightly special. If games are successful, port to other platforms in 6-12 months along with new DLC for all. DLC is not on Game Pass so it juices revenue for the studios.

Microsoft's goal is for Xbox to make back (and then some) all the money they spent buying gaming companies.

Bringing Xbox games to other consoles isn't going to attract many new players to Game Pass.

Only way to access GP on phones and tablets is cloud streaming through Ultimate and that's $20/month.

And if a PlayStation (or Switch 2) user already had a PC then PC Game Pass has been a thing for years and it's probably a better deal than Ultimate at this point.

I just don't like the playstation experience. UI is clunky and the controller isn't comfortable. If Xbox keeps making consoles, I'll be there.
100%
The UI, the controller, the hardware is often the laggiest of the current gen consoles (going back to ps1) , the marketplace (I couldn't buy a copy of Dragons Crown for PS3 because I had a ps+ sub that claimed it as a free game and when the sub expired, it wouldn't let me buy it on sale), I've never been a fan of playstation but they got the games no one else has, but that's starting to becoming an ever shrinking list of exclusive titles found nowhere else.

But GamePass is more than just Microsoft games. Just in the last week or so we got Ninja Gaiden 2 Black, Eternal Strands, Citizen Sleeper 2, Sniper Elite: Resistance and Orcs Must Die Deathtrap.

I’ve never had to pay full price for GamePass but especially this year with all the first party games and bangers like Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, I think it is a great value. Just my 2 cents.

no, I don't know how many times this came up already, there is no "making back" the money that they never lost it in the first place. it's cash asset converted to higher earning assets.

As for the future of "xbox", I see it will be similar to surface and bing, those still exists despite having significantly less market/mind share than xbox ever have.
they will keep trying new stuff to make decent profits and generate large amount of data for future strategic direction of other MS products.

You're getting the most out of it. None of those games interest me, so I must be more of a casual gamer. For me, I lump Game Pass in with other streaming services like Netflix, Disney+, and Apple TV+. It is easier for me to justify paying for 1 or 2 of those than Game Pass because the content is more easily consumed (no controller or super reliable Internet needed), and the range of content appeals to my entire household.

it's not just gamepass though.
it's the whole xbox ecosystem with playanywhere with xbox and pc (might get blurrier in the future)

not only are those upcoming games on game pass, they are all play anywhere. that means every time you buy on xbox (at least all first party games) you are future proof with a pc copy. every other console platform is a dead end by comparison.

Fair enough but I don’t think you need to be “the most extreme Xbox fan” to think GamePass is worth subscribing to.

If that was much of a selling point, then Epic would be the most popular launcher for PC users and not Steam for its weekly free games, which we've had over a hundred by now. And they're actually free free, not subscription-required free.

This is a decent piece on XCloud but I would be super interested to see a whole breakdown. Which I'm sure MSFT would never give us. What games are actually being played? Single player vs MP games? What devices are the most used? How long is the average play session on cloud, etc.

While I agree with that I also think that some of us here are kind of game unicorns. I personally love having all these games at my finger tips and playing tons of different games from all different types of genres. I think that I am unique in that aspect. Most people do not consume video games the way I do.

so you see how hard is it to get mind share/market share?
based on the logic of many, epic should have given up on their store a long time ago since they are losing billions?

I mean, if you really have to compare that way, do you really want to compare the play anywhere games from MS 1st party to what epic is giving for free?

all epic have is alan wake at this point? so it's over for them when it hits steam right?

if you guys noticed, there wasn't a epic games coupon during the last holiday sale, they are probably not as willing to burn more $ to take sales from steam going forward.

so wouldn't you say xbox is in way better shape in terms of generating revenue/mind share/market share than bing/surface/epic games?

you realized that they license others to make xbox controllers right?
I also miss the part where they get rid of the console? they still sell the surface line when it has less than 1% market share?
Licensed wireless controllers are higher priced than the 1st party controllers. This goes back to my original argument that people are going to want to buy the cheaper controller. If you can get the newest game on a PC, why bother getting a licensed or 1st party controller when any Bluetooth controller will work? And do you think Nintendo and Sony will ever allow Xbox controllers to natively work on their systems? You kill the console, you kill your controllers.

The console will be gone eventually. Look at the Surface line- the RT just wasn't selling well so they eventually killed it off. Same with Microsoft Band. Same with Windows Phone. There's always going to be people who own multiple consoles*, but the average person has only 1 console that they game on (not counting mobile here). If you're looking to upgrade to a new console generation (and assuming consoles are close enough to the same price), would you either get the system that only plays X games on it or the system that play Y and X games? For the average person- that's a no brainer.

*For this entire argument, I mean console to include PC alongside the traditional big 3.

I don't game as much as I used to. If the handful of MS console exclusives come to PS5 I might not buy another XBox console. As it is now both my consoles site dormant much of the time. I let my PS+ basic run out for several months last year before renewing it.

I might double dip on Forza Horizon 5 when it comes out though. I was never a huge Halo fan but have played through the main releases. Was a huge Gears of War fan but that series seems to have cooled a bit for me. I am looking forward to the next Gear of War too though. There hasn't been XBox Series X release. GOW 5 was an Xbox One game.

The Elite controller is better but the DS4 isn't that bad.

Interesting times.

Reading through these last pages, just thought I would add my two cents.

I think Xbox is in a tough spot, kind of like Disney. Xbox/Sony/Nintendo and Disney are trying to find their way in a world that doesn't really care about those properties as much anymore. My kids would rather watch YouTube for free then Disney+ and they would rather play Roblox, Fortnite, Rocket League, Brawl Stars, and Marvel Snap then anything that Nintendo/Xbox/Sony have to offer. They usually choose a free to play game before a paid one until they see me playing Halo or Mario Kart. This new generation just doesn't care about a lot of these expensive properties, they are fine with ads or paid season passes and random other crap.

It honestly drives me nuts sometimes because we have two xbox, a bunch of switches, a PS5 and they will still choose to play some dumb free to play game when they could play just about any hit game since I buy so many of them.

your argument would make perfect sense if sony didn't start putting games on the PC

btw, sony is the only one that is traditional here, the wii and nes are already gone, xbox is no longer just a console. that makes the ps the only traditional console.

but in the end, all traditional console dies and only the pc lives on. 10 years from now you won't want to be playing the games you buy today on playstation, so you better be buy them on pc today, no brainer right?

I think it would make more sense if you replace Microsoft with "xbox". disney/sony/nintendo sells entertainment, and nothing else.

microsoft on the other hand sells enterprise/ecosystems/data. I bet amazon/google/apple/meta etc. would die to have a gaming ecosystem like xbox under their wing (you can see in their effort of trying to get anything going for gaming). it's all about getting the data of millions of gamers to fight the next generation of data/information driven war for endless profits.

You are correct, I was referring to the Xbox division specifically, I edited my post.

The big F2P games are popular for a reason, generally they are polished, packed with content, and get updates frequently. For kids, I imagine they have many of their friends playing these games, way more than the days where you needed to buy consoles/games/DLC/Gold.

Youtube and such are a bit harder to nail down, the content is generally pretty different from what you get with paid streaming services. A lot more specific and you can find literally any niche interest you want. I know I tend to watch more YT and Twitch than traditional TV lately unless I'm binging something, but I'm skewed by being able to watch at work, and mostly gaming when home.

I just realized that I have had a full circle moment with Alan Wake Remastered today. I managed to grab the free copy earlier.

I was thinking about it and some years back(maybe 5-7 yrs) there was some major pricing glitch/error on the GameStop website with a multitude of games(like a lot) and many people placed online orders for them. Now, most of these orders were cancelled and refunded but for those who got the cancellation GameStop sent a $10 voucher for the “inconvenience”.

The game I got for free with that voucher…Alan Wake for the Xbox 360. Which still sits in my backlog. Maybe the gaming Gods are trying to tell me I need to play this finally.

Shame that Balatro is not play anywhere I would love to play on PC and earn achievements etc

Also picked up Hong Kong Massacre, Ninja Gaiden Black and Conan. Are there any old school Conan fuck shit up similar games on sale too?

On side note I remember buying Alan Wake same week as Read Dead Redemption. Never played Alan Wake. Bought Alan Wake remastered never played it. Bought Alan Wake 2 Deluxe....... obviously never played it! Oh and I have American nightmare lol

You’re right. Gamepass is worth its weight in gold I’m surprised they don’t see that.

Ehh. I think it's worth it if you are the type who plays and finishes games in a short period of time. For someone like me who might play a game for a couple hours, put it back on the shelf and then return to it months later it's better just to buy games instead. Games are a much bigger time investment than a movie or show.

Right so
Under that scenario it really is over for Xbox then.

At least Sony is giving them a break by not really doing anything this generation. Well, maybe except for TLOU show which has been excellent. Will be subbing in April just for it.

Multiversus is kill.

I'm fine if this doesn't get in my collection, but if they so happen to have sale or something with everything marked down to a ridiculous price (or better yet, free) then I'll pick it up. Also another win for WB's commitment to games as a service games!

I still buy movies too because I’m the type that rewatches old movies years later and replays games years later. I currently don’t have Netflix because I bought so many full seasons of shows on sale at Christmas I’m just watching all of those.
I'm not kidding at all when I say that my 4K UHD and anime BD collection is going to be worth a tiny fortune after several years. If and when physical media stops being made completely. Fans are always going to watch shows in the best possible video quality, and have nice bookshelf collector pieces.

I waste a ton of money on this stuff. Most people would think it is crazy. But current OOP prices and availability already prove it to be true. I just sold a particular Funimation chipcover box collector's edition from 2015 for $340 yesterday.

The only drawback is that it causes you to not want to open your own premium items. But I enjoy the hobby immensely. I love all the great presentations that have been coming to Criterion 4K lately: David Lynch, Terrence Malick, and now we are getting more Wuxia and foreign films.

This is what collectors are all about this week. Kill Bill 1&2, Jackie Brown just released on 4K last Tues. Unfortunately the 4K discs are being given bad review scores for very poor video quality.

Found myself recently purchasing CDs again after many years of relying on streaming services. I enjoy having apple music and its conveniences but there is something to be said for owning and knowing it's not going anywhere unless destroyed.
I did the same but with vinyl. Re-buying all of the CDs I sold off a while ago made me feel sad. Starting a new record collection makes me happy.

The problem with buying physical media is I straight up ain't got the room for it anymore. I Have something over 1000 DVD/Blu/4K and I still pick up things here and there, but streaming and lack of deals these days means I just can't bother all the more. Same with my 400 or so CD's and I don't even want to get into comics that I still collect. Switch games and the rare odd cheap PS4/PS5/XBox game and collector's edition here and there are the only things I get physical gaming wise these days.

I want to get/make a NAS but it seems complicated. I need to figure something out because I'm just juggling normal HDD back ups for my media.

I have a lot of anime DVDs from when that was a thing. At least most of it is older shows so a bluray upgrade isn't too drastic of a diffrence. I know some of them are worth a decent amount just due to remaining out of print. Even some recent stuff going out of print seems to shoot values up quickly. I had a hell of a time finding a region 1 bluray of Eureka Seven HI Evolution 1 for under $80.

I pretty rarely buy physical movies/shows anymore, maybe 2 or 3 a year, but I'm aware of how to find stuff free pretty easily.

Ehh. I think it's worth it if you are the type who plays and finishes games in a short period of time. For someone like me who might play a game for a couple hours, put it back on the shelf and then return to it months later it's better just to buy games instead. Games are a much bigger time investment than a movie or show.
Most games are there at least a year. I figure if you don’t finish a game in a year, you probably never will.

Recently, I've been loading up on some 4K REMUXes so I have something to do on my flight to Japan next week. I've never done such a thing before but I wanted to see how they would look on my MacBook Pro (and also sound since the 16 is supposed to have better speakers than the 14). I got a bit too curious after testing them out though. Hot damn they look SO good. I watched John Wick 4 and Deadpool & Wolverine for the first time this way using the IINA player. I read Infuse (Pro) has better HDR but I don't really wanna pay $99 for a lifetime license though 😭

This little experiment has me itching to set up some kind of PLEX or Jellyfin server to stream some 4K stuff or at least a NAS to store it. It's too bad HDD prices have gone up quite a bit since 2023 😡

Things are not looking good for Bioware. They chopped the studio down below 100 people and apparently the "temporary relocations" we've heard about in the last few weeks were actually stealth permanent transfers to those other EA studios

They must have made basically zero progress on Mass Effect.

I hope y'all have some good data hoarding strategies. Rip them discs as highest possible quality and put them on a NAS.

Disc rot is real. Years ago when I was ripping my DVD collection, a surprising number of discs had errors or were completely unreadable. Dual layer discs in particular were problematic.

Getting an off the shelf NAS (Synology, QNAP, TerraMaster, Asustor) up and going is pretty simple. You just populate it with drives and the OS will walk you through the rest.

I recently went down the 4K remux rabbit hole after getting my OLED. The open matte 4K HDR version of Tron Legacy is pretty eye popping.

I bought the lifetime license for Infuse Pro in 2020 for $60. It has been completely worth the price for me. I have an older Netgear NAS with 6x 16TB drives for my media. I use it as a simple file server with SMB shares (no docker apps). I run Infuse on a couple Apple TV 4K's and my iPad. I like Infuse because it just streams to my devices - no transcoding like Plex. It supports HDR/Dolby Vision and high res audio (although TrueHD and DTS-HD are decoded to 7.1 PCM). I dabbled with Jellyfin a bit, but it seemed pointless for my use when Infuse was the only decent Jellyfin client available on iPad/Apple TV.

Couple pics of Infuse on iPad accessing my NAS media library.

The leak/rumor situation seems to be going into overdrive today. A lot of reiterating, a couple new claims for people with OK records. The last one is a sketch source.

Realistically this is a good time to throw out guess and be "proven right".

Gears of War Trilogy Collection - day one, crossplay on all platforms (XB,PS5, PC, Switch 2)

Killer Instinct 2013 and Starfield on PS5 "soon". Filight Simulator 2024 PS5 and Switch 2.

Fable PS5 day one

Halo Infinite on PS5 "soon", with a build existing 6 months ago

Microsoft acknowledging Killer Instinct always feels like someone had to win a bet or sell their own child to get that to go through. If it gets more eyes on the franchise again then I'm all for it.

There are some pretty good solutions out there. Just the stuff from Synology or QNAP or similar brands will cost more money, but are pretty much plug and play.

You can also repurpose an old PC. If you just want storage. Or you can build your own using any combo of consumer or enterprise parts. It's fun if you want to tinker.

Software also has many options. You can simply store stuff on hard drives on Windows. You can run some Linux servers. You can run TrueNAS. You can run Unraid. Lots of options. I prefer Unraid since it allows you to throw all your different sized disks into an array and it shows up on your network as one big storage pile.

My personal recommendation if you're starting out is to look at something like the Aoostar WTR Pro. 4 bays for hard drives. The Intel N100 is super power efficient but can handle video very well. Look at serverpartsdeals for cheaper storage. I think that would get you started with a good mixture of being cheaper than the name brands but still easier than building a new machine.
