• You cannot currently buy any Xbox 360 content on xbox.com using your account balance, you can only use an active credit card or PayPal. To use your balance, you must make purchases on your console. Unfortunately, even "purchasing" free content through the web site like trials requires an alternative method of payment tied to your account, though adding an empty MasterCard / Visa gift card that is registered for online purchases will work. Xbox One games can be purchased on the web site with your account balance.
• Some sales are intended for Gold subscribers only, as noted within each section.
  On Xbox One, Gold trials of any length work for sales and Games with Gold. You must be an active Gold subscriber (paid or trial) to play Games with Gold purchases.

What is this?

Game prices in the Xbox store have a UTC end date associated with them. These dates generally fall into 5 categories :

1. The item is currently on sale. These are usually the weekly sale items that end Tuesday mornings at 09:59:59 UTC.
2. The item will go on sale, usually within 2-3 weeks. These are usually set to switch at 23:59:59 UTC, like the weekly sale on Monday evenings. Some of the major annual sales (Spring, Summer, Black Friday, Holiday) start on Thursday evening UTC, and some times appear to be random.
3. The item is on Game Pass and is not currently or going to be on sale in the next few weeks. Third party games generally cluster around 09:59:59 UTC on the 1st and 16th of each month. Currently, at least one game is associated with every 1st and 16th through January 2025. The dates then spread out, ending with Human Fall Flat on July 1, 2028.
4. First party and EA Play titles are farther out, starting in 2049, with many in 2799 and 9998.
5. No date - some items do not have a price and so don't have a date. If the item is part of a bundle that has a price, the date from the bundle is used.

The list below uses the dates associated with games on Game Pass and EA Play. Time stamps in red are the regular Game Pass departure times and titles in red are confirmed to be leaving, either from Microsoft's regular news postings or by devs / publishers. Items available through Game Pass Core, currently on sale or not available for purchase are also color coded.

The date associated with a Game Pass game is not a guarantee it will leave on that date, but since March 2023 when the price data started getting analyzed, every game that's left Game Pass had been flagged as leaving on that date. It's given a number of people an extra heads up on the generally 2 week notice Microsoft provides.

I could have swore Fractured Minds was on Game Pass before. I remember playing it last year or the year before simply because it was leaving Game Pass. I just checked out all the free games on the MS store. There are a lot of good ones! Some are even enhanced for Series X. You should check them out if you haven't in awhile. It’s definitely more fun and a lot funnier with multiple players. It supports 1-4 players. 4 is chaos.

um....is HItman 3 free to play? I'm able to play (I think) the full game without the disc!

One page says I "Own" the game and to launch now, another page says the standard edition is $59.99. I am able to play 4 levels from Hitman 3, I downloaded a free starter pack a few weeks ago but that's it.

I am beyond confused by this, even by Hitman standards. I think I'm just gonna finish this game, sell the disc and just buy the digital copy in the future if this stops working.

I've been selling penny guides I've bought in the 90's like Silent Hill 2+3, Tekken 3, Resident Evil 2 etc. I kinda hate to part with them but considering they are going for top dollar, it's worth it. ebay's fees really are awful though.

Yeah, Amazon is just as bad as EBay, guess it always has been. Upgrading your pin now means you immediately have to close the game and open it again because it just stops responding and even getting into a game is a hassle because now it's just come down to luck of the draw on the winner being determined by who has server issues. By now my goal is just to get the achievement for fully upgrading a pin then I'm out.

Yeah I ended up deleting it. I didn’t feel like going for the last 3 achievements I still had. I was having the same issue with it freezing and having to restart with every pin upgrade.

Lucky. If I switched to CentryLink I'd get a blazing 3/.5. Yes, that's a decimal for the upload speed. It also comes with a lovely 1TB cap, which would require maxing my bandwidth 24/7 for nearly the entire month to reach it. Which I would have to anyway since those speeds are absolute trash in 2021.

Not mentioned here, but something I hope makes a big difference is audio passthrough. It's listed as part of the update in this Gamespot article (below). I have had tons of problems with Atmos and other surround formats passing through to my soundbar or receiver over the years. My biggest issue is that the center channel dialogue goes missing in certain games. There are articles mentioning that this is due to Microsoft's processing of audio that isn't fully compatible with some audio equipment. Hopefully this is a fix.

I guess we've now seen what it takes to get Sony to move. Seems like a couple weeks of nonstop bad press while also singling out such a shit take from their president. Hard to judge if it was more or less then the Xbox Live price double since they took so much longer to react.

I'd say this is worse than the XBL price hike fiasco. MS reversed course pretty much overnight.

Sony (Jim Ryan specifically) decided to:

1.) Not give developers working on Vita games fair warning they were going to shut down the Vita and PS3 stores. Some developers decided to cancel their projects feeling they wouldn't be finished in time to submit them for final approval.

2.) *Almost* shut down the PS3 and Vita stores on short notice causing people to scramble to get their PS3s and Vitas ready before having to re-download and panic buy games.

3.) Sit back and rake in the dough while people panic buy. Two weeks of bad press and then they backtrack and say they'll keep the PS3 and Vita stores open. Meanwhile the PSP commerce functionality will still be shut down come July 2nd.

Apologies for the rant. It just bugs how Jim Ryan is doing things since become the lead at Playstation.
