• You cannot currently buy any Xbox 360 content on xbox.com using your account balance, you can only use an active credit card or PayPal. To use your balance, you must make purchases on your console. Unfortunately, even "purchasing" free content through the web site like trials requires an alternative method of payment tied to your account, though adding an empty MasterCard / Visa gift card that is registered for online purchases will work. Xbox One games can be purchased on the web site with your account balance.

  On Xbox One, Gold trials of any length work for sales and Games with Gold. You must be an active Gold subscriber (paid or trial) to play Games with Gold purchases.

What is this?

Game prices in the Xbox store have a UTC end date associated with them. These dates generally fall into 5 categories :

1. The item is currently on sale. These are usually the weekly sale items that end Tuesday mornings at 09:59:59 UTC.
2. The item will go on sale, usually within 2-3 weeks. These are usually set to switch at 23:59:59 UTC, like the weekly sale on Monday evenings. Some of the major annual sales (Spring, Summer, Black Friday, Holiday) start on Thursday evening UTC, and some times appear to be random.
3. The item is on Game Pass and is not currently or going to be on sale in the next few weeks. Third party games generally cluster around 09:59:59 UTC on the 1st and 16th of each month. Currently, at least one game is associated with every 1st and 16th through January 2026. The dates then spread out, ending with Human Fall Flat on July 1, 2028.
4. First party and EA Play titles are farther out, starting in 2049, with many in 2799 and 9998.
5. No date - some items do not have a price and so don't have a date. If the item is part of a bundle that has a price, the date from the bundle is used.

The list below uses the dates associated with games on Game Pass and EA Play. Time stamps in red are the regular Game Pass departure times and titles in red are confirmed to be leaving, either from Microsoft's regular news postings or by devs / publishers. Items available through Game Pass Core, currently on sale or not available for purchase are also color coded.

The date associated with a Game Pass game is not a guarantee it will leave on that date, but since March 2023 when the price data started getting analyzed, every game that's left Game Pass had been flagged as leaving on that date. It's given a number of people an extra heads up on the generally 2 week notice Microsoft provides.

I asked this question about a dozen times leading up to the Xbox Series X release and never got an answer so I’m posting as an FYI in case anybody else has a serious digital game buying problem like I do.

External hard drive capacity limit of 16 TB (previous limit on One X) has been raised to an unknown number. I currently have roughly 32 TB of external connected at this time.

Maximum number of connected external drives remains at 3. I still use a USB hub to achieve this and have had no problems

The storage expansion card is still allowed to be added even if you already have 3 hard drives hooked up. It is listed separately in your storage.

Not sure, but I just finished Yakuza 2 on the PS4 earlier this month and started Yakuza 3......it's just a PS3 remaster unlike the 1 and 2. Graphics are really poor and the gameplay is not as refined. I am quite disappointed in the lack of effort in remastering the games.

Talk to me about Dragons Dogma. I keep almost pulling the trigger on it and then don’t at the last minute. I really wanted Baldurs Gate or Icewind Dale to go on sale but I haven’t seen them on sale digital at anytime and might opt for Dragons Dogma instead. If it’s any clue as to whether I will like the game, I loved Dragon Age Origins but didn’t like Inquisition near as much. Loved Diablo 3 but had a hard time getting into Skyrim. I know i have weird rpg tendencies. The whole “open world” thing usually just gets tedious for me.

It's one of Capcom's best franchises. I don't like Skyrim either - this game also does have an open world, but the combat is easily the best part of the game, which will have you always looking for new monsters to fight. You can scale monsters, or hold them down while your companions slash away at them. There's a recent Netflix anime based on the game, which is pretty good. It'll show you what the game's world and story is about, but skip it if you don't like unhappy endings. Another game is in development if the hacker leak was accurate, so now is the best time to check out the series.

Really none of those games are good comparisons to Dragon's Dogma. While it is fairly traditional fantasy in theme and design, as an RPG the story and quests are pretty bare bones, at least until you get to the expansion Dark Arisen content which is basically endgame stuff. There is some pretty interesting lore stuff but it doesn't reach it's full potential. You aren't really making decisions so much as traveling the world and having your actions guide what is happening.

Where DD shines is its balls to the wall action combat. You have complete freedom of movement including the ability to grab and even climb enemies, a decent selection of gear and items, and deep and customizable move sets for all classes and play styles. This is the same team that made Devil May Cry 2 through 5 and their history really shows itself in the game, though in a different way than the over the top cuh-razy combos of DMC. The other big aspect of gameplay is the Pawn system, where you have a follower character that you also customize that learns combat techniques over time. You then can hire 2 other players Pawns (found in cities or with a sort of search system at checkpoint locations) and that makes up your party.

As far as the open world goes, you're mostly just traveling from place to place while stumbling across fights, you don't have a bunch of bullshit Ubisoft objectives on the map, more just basic go here and find item or kill thing. There is a decent fast travel system so you really don't have to slog through the open world too much, most of the time you're exploring dungeons/castles and that kind of thing.

Finally, they took a lot of feedback when making the expansion area, and that has a fairly different feel to it. Definitely Dark Souls inspired, it is a much harder location with more creative enemy design, and you're actually getting randomized gear as you make your rounds through it rather than the fairly standard stuff in the base game. The story in this area is pretty cool too.

I can highly recommend Dragon's Dogma to most people unless they're specifically looking for something with strong stories like Dragon Age or The Witcher, as it's way on the ACTION side of the scale as far as Action RPG goes, it was one of my top games of last generation. It is a bit hard to gauge for you specifically because pretty much all the games your reference are pretty drastically different from each other, other than "fantasy".

The map is big, but not overwhelming. I can easily remember the entire map in my head right now if you were to ask, and it has been years since I played. Think of it as very tight zones that are thematically created, such as a darkwood forest or a foreboding tower. The game is challenging and does require a degree of skill the further you push into new 'zones' but the meta here is ridiculously good if you want to get deep into it. I would put the game in a category of it's own as MMOfflineRPG, so if that sounds like your favorite cup; give it a try.

Supposed to be a patch out tomorrow to improve Valhalla’s performance on the Series S/X, including reducing screen tearing. Also adds a toggle to choose performance or graphics.

Apparently Ubisoft is saying it’s currently running in performance mode on Series X/PS5. If that’s true, it looks unbelievable already so I have to wonder what graphics mode looks like.

I had this issue last week. I had no problem buying 3 $50 Xbox cards and $5 Xbox card from GameStop online. Then about a day later, I bought a $20 one and it had already been redeemed. I contacted GameStop and they said they would refund me as a one time courtesy. They haven't. MS support was no help and just passed me off to the merchant. I'm going to try calling GameStop again to see what the hold up on the refund is. Thankfully it was only $20 and was bought with GameStop credit but it's still ridiculous that neither company can resolve the issue promptly.

A bit of an update. I purchased a $50 Xbox card tonight with trade credit and it was valid. I am wondering if the issue is with the $20 gift cards.

Supposed to be a patch out tomorrow to improve Valhalla’s performance on the Series S/X, including reducing screen tearing. Also adds a toggle to choose performance or graphics.

Apparently Ubisoft is saying it’s currently running in performance mode on Series X/PS5. If that’s true, it looks unbelievable already so I have to wonder what graphics mode looks like.

On a side note, after finishing the Norway portion, I wish it snowed more often in England, lol.

I could have sworn it should stop at some point (my 1X did) since the games are played off the hard drives and not the disc. For whatever reason mine won't stop running and it's pretty loud.

This might just be unique to me, but I had to contact support for the issue.  I was ordering the Carbon Black Controller with USB-C bundle and every time I would try to checkout it would give me an error on their end message.  The support person told me it was a bad link on their end, and they had to manually do the order for me.  It did finally work, but if anyone else has this problem, chat with their support instead of waiting and trying later.

Under the kitchen aid ad it should say “click to activate”. It’s random or targeted I believe, so some may get it some may not.

Normally I'd be all about a 20% off gift card, but there's no way I'm shopping on Thanksgiving. Screw the companies who pull this crap and make people work on the holiday (outside of essential services of course).
