Welcome to the Xbox Deals and Discussion thread.

General info
  • You cannot currently buy any Xbox 360 content on xbox.com using your account balance, you can only use an active credit card or PayPal. To use your balance, you must make purchases on your console. Unfortunately, even "purchasing" free content through the web site like trials requires an alternative method of payment tied to your account, though adding an empty MasterCard / Visa gift card that is registered for online purchases will work. Xbox One games can be purchased on the web site with your account balance.
  • Some sales are intended for Gold subscribers only, as noted within each section.
On Xbox One, Gold trials of any length work for sales and Games with Gold. You must be an active Gold subscriber (paid or trial) to play Games with Gold purchases.
  • On Xbox 360, you must have at least a 1 month Gold subscription for sales and Games with Gold. Neither 48 hour trials, 14 day trials nor free weekends qualify.

  • All known sales and information on sales should make their way into the OP. Major Nelson usually updates his blog with new sales information every Tuesday.
  • ALL OFFERS ARE SUBJECT TO CHANGE! No information within this thread can or should be construed as accurate (or still valid), therefore ...
  • Always verify Xbox Live Marketplace prices before your purchase!
  • Spend wisely, have fun, and enjoy!

Game Pass potential departure dates

Last updated - 2024-05-28
What is this?
Game prices in the Xbox store have a UTC end date associated with them. These dates generally fall into 5 categories :
  1. The item is currently on sale. These are usually the weekly sale items that end Tuesday mornings at 09:59:59 UTC.
  2. The item will go on sale, usually within 2-3 weeks. These are usually set to switch at 23:59:59 UTC, like the weekly sale on Monday evenings. Some of the major annual sales (Spring, Summer, Black Friday, Holiday) start on Thursday evening UTC, and some times appear to be random.
  3. The item is on Game Pass and is not currently or going to be on sale in the next few weeks. Third party games generally cluster around 09:59:59 UTC on the 1st and 16th of each month. Currently, at least one game is associated with every 1st and 16th through January 2025. The dates then spread out, ending with Human Fall Flat on July 1, 2028.
  4. First party and EA Play titles are farther out, starting in 2049, with many in 2799 and 9998.
  5. No date - some items do not have a price and so don't have a date. If the item is part of a bundle that has a price, the date from the bundle is used.
The list below uses the dates associated with games on Game Pass and EA Play. Time stamps in red are the regular Game Pass departure times and titles in red are confirmed to be leaving, either from Microsoft's regular news postings or by devs / publishers. Items available through Game Pass Core, currently on sale or not available for purchase are also color coded.

The date associated with a Game Pass game is not a guarantee it will leave on that date, but since March 2023 when the price data started getting analyzed, every game that's left Game Pass had been flagged as leaving on that date. It's given a number of people an extra heads up on the generally 2 week notice Microsoft provides.

If you have any questions about the list, please ask in the thread.

Install base and users actually using old consoles are completely different metrics. Yes there are a lot of old models lying around, but doesn’t mean they’re actually being used. These metrics are also misleading since they include consoles sold, but doesn’t include consoles that are no longer operable. Most gamers have upgraded in some form within the past 7 years and wouldn’t expect to get the same performance as the newer systems. From a business side, those models are outdated and not worth the amount of labor it takes to optimize a game for. Anyone expecting the same experience is either delusional, or living under a rock. And who was it developed for? PC bro, thats who. Fun fact, that’s how most games are developed outside of console exclusives. They are then optimized for console platforms.

Aside from the fact that you're just wrong, the install base is not a minority: Pro and X1X are. When the game was announced, neither PS4 or X1 were, let alone PS5/XSX. Now, who exactly was this developed for again?

One of the comments from their emergency investor meeting was that saving their reputation is their top priority above all else, no matter the monetary cost. I'm curious how this will take shape because simply fixing the botched launch weeks later only really could stop the bleeding, not heal the wound.

I think restoring faith is going to take some amazing post-launch support, like to the point that some free updates are real content rather than the minor stuff the Witcher 3 did for free. Hard to say if they'll be where they were even then. Witcher 3 had a rough launch too but it wasn't this bad.

As for people playing on the old base consoles, I don't know that they'll be able to do much other than stabilizing the game to 30 and fixing the bugs, which would still leave the visuals looking rough. I think we'll see what happened with Bloodstained fans to a much greater degree due to the popularity. For reference, the majority of sales on BS were for the Switch, where visuals and performance were trash (as expected), but even getting the game to a playable state many people didn't feel it was good enough and they continue to complain at every opportunity.
If I had to guess on them fixing their reputation, my best guess is they're going to offer Witcher 3 GotY for free or something. Though they do have allot more to lose compared to other companies since they're publicly traded and they don't have as many coals in the fire like, well, other publicly traded game companies. It'll be interesting to see and I do hope they can pull it off, but man oh man this is a damn train wreck I can't look away from.

I Don't know if it's Fallout 76 levels bad, but it's pretty close. Waiting on someone to say the collector's edition is made asbestos now or something.

Ah, so it was developed for PC. So why is it, that when released on 7 year old hardware, people should accept it will "run sluggish out the gate"? Or maybe, it should have been the expectation that rather than the consumer deal with a incompatible product, they should have canceled last gen console releases. Or delayed until they could deliver that product without requiring months to years worth of patches to fix.

And fun fact, I've been gaming on PCs since I was 5. Bro.

I've sold our two PS4 Pro's for $330 each. Trick is to bundle it with games that normally sell to GS for like $10 at this point, but provide that extra bonus to whoever is buying it. Both of them sold within half an hour of listing so you can definitely get quite a bit out of these old consoles. I'm still debating what to do with the now OOP X1X though. I should sell it, but I'm kinda fond of that little fucking VCR lol. Wouldn't be a bad 4k player for the bedroom if we ever put a TV there with these things getting so cheap now.
Are you using ebay, or Swappa, or something else?

I feel the same way about my One S, I almost want to keep it over the X1X but I'm fond of it too despite being less powerful.

Hard agree here. The vast majority of console gamers did not upgrade to the mid-gen consoles, I think it's something like 10-15 percent, and less than that have been able to find new consoles yet. PC does have a large number of players, but people with good enough hardware to play 2077 are again, a minority.

As for Cyberpunk, I'd say it's a special case as CDPR is very PC focused. The numbers we had were 8 million pre-orders with a 60/40 split favoring PC. I'd still wager that console sales will likely swing to a console majority between holiday sales/gifts, and physical retailer pre-orders have been lower than ever during the pandemic. I don't know when the 8 million number is from, personally I didn't pre-order until the preload was live in case of further delays.

I do think CDPR are very focused on their PC versions first, but they are obviously aware of the massive number of console only players, and have a good record in the past of doing there best supporting these platforms as well as possible.
Clearly PCs have become more powerful since 2013, but as a game that was announced on PS4 and X1 in 2013, you'd think they would have kept those specs in mind when developing since it started there. RDR2 looked impressive even on the One S, or Last of Us 2 with the insane level of detail, it's hard to imagine anything other than PC was lead platform and the console ports were never optimized and were actually an after-thought.

After spending some time on the Cyberpunk 2077 reddit last night, I requested a refund from Microsoft and got it approved in less than an hour. I plan to play it eventually but I can wait 6 months for next-gen versions and whatever patches and content they add, and it'll be $20 by then. Part of me just doesn't want to support the business practice of releasing a game that is so clearly not ready for market on the platform.

This article is also an interesting read:

How long did you play it? I tried to get a refund yesterday and got denied. I played for 26 hours, but only requested a refund after CPR released their statement yesterday.

@gamergirl - I’m also trying to decide whether to sell the one s. I just signed up for offer up but you can’t tell how much things sold for on that platform. And eBay is all over the place.

Maybe it's just my area, but I worked in retail until the pandemic started and the vast majority of consoles I sold, and took in for repair, were base PS4 and Xbox One S/VCR. There are a ton of people that choose not to upgrade or simply can only justify the lower price.

I don't think most people expected the same performance as PC or the better consoles, but do expect a baseline of playable, which the game currently is borderline.

I searched online and cannot find the name of the XB1 exclusive fighting/shooting game where the characters are kinda wild and colorful and have different fighting styles...with a mix of melee and ranged weapons.  No mention of it anywhere and when I google random adjectives nothing comes up.  It came out in the last year or so.

Anyone know what I'm talking about and if so, any opinions on it?  Thanks.

Probably Bleeding Edge. Heard mediocre, had a dead player count right away, never bothered trying myself.

I find it interesting that I haven’t seen a single article with a quote directly from Xbox or Sony spokespeople about Cyberpunk refunds. I don’t think I’ve even seen an article saying they wouldn’t comment. I would hope these news outlets would be trying to get a firm statement from them when many people are still getting denied refunds.

CD Projekt Red is mostly to blame for this mess but it still falls on Sony and MS to provide compensation at this point.

Are you using ebay, or Swappa, or something else?

I feel the same way about my One S, I almost want to keep it over the X1X but I'm fond of it too despite being less powerful.
eBay. The poor X1S doesn't go for much there so we were prepared to trade that guy to GS. Doing our own due diligence though, we had wiped the system beforehand only to be told their internet sucks and wouldn't be able to test it without having all the patches downloaded. A customer in line behind us asked how much they were going to give ($110) and straight up offered $100 cash for it. Knowing we couldn't get much more for it online, we just took the offer and that was that.

The X1X though, it's more a relic since they stopped making it and with such a small install base kinda makes it more rare now. Not that I expect it to appreciate at all, just more of a collector's item now.

My favorite portion of their statement is to advise people to try and return it to the store, as if any US store has ever allowed opened returns in the last decade or two thanks to anti-piracy laws. They then direct people to contact them and they'll "do the best they can". Yeah right, that's a fucking black hole because they will get slammed with requests and never keep up.

All could have been avoided if they were just honest. :shame:

I Mean CDPR legit threw them under the bus in saying they'll be offering refunds, but today they admitted they don't have any special agreement with Microsoft or Sony in regards to refunds. This isn't really on those companies so much as CDPR just trying to save some face by making a BS claim.

It’s a shitty situation all around. Obviously MS and Sony take their 30% cut or whatever but I would hope CDPR would “refund” the other 70% back to them if they allowed it to go through.

Regardless, CDPR has played mind games all the way through - from not letting reviewers even have console versions to their misleading statements on refunds.

Bleeding Edge, I played a couple rounds of it. I love those style games, I have hundreds of hours in Overwatch. Bleeding edge just felt like it didn’t bring anything new to the table and if your team doesn’t work together you have no chance at all. Unless you have a squad I’m not sure how you would ever win. Overwatch is way better IMO.

he says quality mode is the way to go on consoles. I believe it defaults to performance so be sure to change it if you haven't already.

series S is also alongside the X, just lower res.

Far Cry 3 on a PlayStation 3 was playable.

Cyberpunk 2077 on a Xbox One S barely passes as playable.

Yeah, I popped a couple for the day 6 Play Anywhere, will hold off on the rest for that day (if I make it that far).

The new Hivebusters DLC for Gears 5 dropped today with another 15 achievements for Play Anywhere as well as the day 10 shooter challenge.

I never started, I was saving it for my 10 day staycation starting next week. I have enough in my backlog that I would rather play now and will consider Cyberpunk later when it's been worked on more.

I was amused that Shadow of the Tomb Raider qualified for the 10 shooter achievements, that’s what I used.

GwG games now have their own section in your library. That’s where you’ll find any Xbox One games and Xbox/Xbox 360 games that you acquired from their new product pages.
Aha. Just one more place I have to look when trying to find something. Might as well just install everything since I have the space.

Because it’s 7 year old hardware that’s had 2 revisions(One S/X) and now 2 next gen successors? Lol it’s common sense if you understand tech, set your expectations low. For someone playing on PC, you sound like a novice not understanding how development/console optimization works.

Bro.

I 1000/1000'ed Far Cry 3 on 360 and never thought anything was wrong with its performance. We had different standards back then. :)

Not to mention all those N64 games that ran at 15 fps and everyone loved them anyway.

people get mad with cell phones after a year. iPhone X is like a dinosaur's baby toy compared to the 12

It's not X|S games, its just xbox1 games with X|S patches that play from ext. Until moving them to X|S storage they will just be the xb1 version.
That's what I'm trying to figure out. Someone here suggested that Xbox One games with X/S patches, the ones that can still be played off an external drive, have the enhancements "disabled" while on the external drive. I have seen nothing to indicate that this is true. I'm pretty sure I see all the enhancements while playing Sea of Thieves and CyberPunk from an external drive. The only thing I can't test is 120fps

"XboxOneGen9Aware" games will keep graphical upgrades like the Halo Collection if they run off the external.
That's what I figure, if they allow the X/S patched game to be playable from an external drive, then the enhancements work from that without the speed of the internal drive. These are my current X/S enhanced games that do not require to be installed on the internal drive. I think you are correct since all of them have the XboxOneGen9Aware tag in the file info:

CyberPunk 2077 (Gen:Durango ConsoleType:XboxOneGen9Aware)

Halo: The Master Chief Collection (Gen:Durango ConsoleType:XboxOneGen9Aware)

Ori and the Will of the Wisps (Gen:Durango ConsoleType:XboxOneGen9Aware)

Rocket League (Gen:Durango ConsoleType:XboxOneGen9Aware)

Sea of Thieves (Gen:Durango ConsoleType:XboxOneGen9Aware)

State of Decay 2 (Gen:Durango ConsoleType:XboxOneGen9Aware)

Concept Destruction is one of the games on my external driver that got the Series X/S enhancement and jumped to my internal drive upon the update. When I transferred the game back to the external drive I got a message that it would not be playable unless it was on the internal.
Yes, many X/S patched/upgraded games require that they be installed on the internal and you get this message. I was discussing the X/S patched games that still run from an external drive and the claim that running them from an external drive "disables" the enhancements

EDIT: Going back, I may have misread JammerFI's initial comment. It seemed like they were saying enhancements don't work on external, but they may just have been commenting that Upgrades need to be transferred and played from the internal drive.

Some games XS enhanced games work from external. However, in most cases XS enhancements will not be enabled until you copy and run the game from SSD storage.

This was before I found out that what CDPR had said that refunds can be a thing turned out to be another save face situation. I'm not the only one.
The reason companies are so hesitant to provide refunds is because people like you that abuse the system. You played the game for 26hrs. It was clearly not so broken for you that you weren’t able to play it or enjoy. You PLAYED it for 26hrs!!! I for one am happy you got denied.

This is totally different from someone that bought it on a PS4/Xbox that couldn’t play it because the game is clearly broken.

Some of the reviewers beat the game in under the amount of time you played.

I believe certain games can be stored on external and the update on the internal which will make them work the same minus the faster load times. Gears 5 was one I think.

I played it on a Xbox One S. If I had a Xbox Series X or even a Xbox One X I wouldn't be asking for a refund.

The reason you were denied is because you PLAYED it for 26hrs, not the console you played it on. No logical person is going to think that a game that some played for 26hrs was unplayable. Therefore your refund was denied. If the game was unplayable you would have returned it in the first couple of hours. I’m sure you played a bunch of the game, or possibly beat it and now you want your money back. Nice try but they didn’t fall for it.

Reminds me of my old boss, she used to work at Disneyland in customer service. Some people would come in at 11am or 1pm and say they weren’t having fun, they had no problem refunding them or compensating them somehow. Then some people would come in as the park was closing and say they didn’t have any fun and want a refund after spending the entire day in the park. They would deny them and say that they paid for a day at Disneyland and received a day at Disneyland and they are sorry they didn’t enjoy it.

I won’t fault you for trying though, this is cheap ass gamer, I’m not sure how you get much more cheap ass then playing 26 hours of a game and then getting a full refund. That’s pro level cheap ass, if it had worked.

Man, people sure love to hate on bad releases. This reminds me of Anthem, when people were clamoring in here about how bad it was when they were just going off memes. Don't get me wrong, Anthem had all kinds of issues, but it wasn't unplayable. CP2077 is 100,000x better than Anthem at launch, yet here people are memeing it up about how it's the worst piece of software ever released. WB didn't apologize for Shadows of Mordor running like garbage on 360, and I sure as hell couldn't have gotten a refund after the hours I put in before I got frustrated with it (not that digital refunds were even a thing in them days).

Publically traded companies have to meet deadlines, regardless of performance issues. They couldn't keep postponing CP2077. They probably wanted to optimize it more for previous gen, but Covid restrictions limited what they could accomplish. Hopefully they can patch it and get the frame rate into a better place, but people comparing the textures on PS4 and high end PC might as well be comparing McD's to some $1000 burger with gold foil on it.

I played a good dozen hours on X1X last weekend and had a great time. I haven't had a chance to sit down with it post patch, or to switch it to quality mode, but both of those should address what minor issues I had. Games have bugs at launch, get over it. CP2077 is fantastic and I'm looking forward to putting more time in when I can.

This has probably been mentioned already, but Kellogg's Family Rewards has an offer to get 14 days of Game Pass Ultimate by uploading a receipt that shows the purchase of a Kellogg's product from a participating retailer.  The Kellogg's product has to be purchased between 11/2/2020 and 3/31/21, and a photo of the receipt has to be uploaded within 30 days of purchase by 4/30/21.

https://www.kelloggsfamilyrewards.com/en_US/promotions/xbox-game-pass/

Last night, I bought a can of Pringles ($1.67) and two boxes of Pop-Tarts (50 cents each, don't ask) in the same transaction at Kroger, uploaded the receipt this morning, and I got two 14-day codes sent to me within the same hour.  Apparently, there is a two code limit.

I usually don't waste time with these kinds of promotions, but this one is legit.  :hot:

To counter that, I submitted a receipt almost three weeks ago that was rejected for seemingly no reason. I resubmitted it but was told that I couldn't because it was duplicate submission. I contacted support and was told that they would accept it and send me the code. Two weeks later I still have nothing.

Got cyberpunk day 1 but haven't played it yet. I got a good deal on it with GCU so don't mind waiting until my series x problems are patched or the enhancements are released.

I still have the copy of Battleborn I bought when server closures were announced at the beginning of the year. Can't decide if I should event check it out at this point, have too many games with winter events and would rather get the shadow of mordor achievements before those servers close.

Could just ignore all of them and wait to see what is on sale for the end of the year countdown sale whenever that happens.

Sale starts in about 8 hours.
Was just coming in to ask if anyone knew whether the sale was starting today. I'll hold off until tomorrow in case they pop another rewards punchcard (maybe it will work this time), but I'm getting closer and closer to buying Immortals. Hoping it's on sale on XBL for $40-ish. I'd rather have it digitally than buy it on sale at Best Buy, and I have plenty of points to redeem for MS credit.

...Not that I need another game to play right now...

I don't doubt that some people were very disappointed with the game, but the internet consistently shows us that people like to think in extremes (especially online). One of my biggest pet peeves is when people say something is "trash" when they clearly just mean they're disappointed in it. "These bluetooth headphones advertise 10 hours of play time, but they only last 5 for me. These are trash." Do you really believe all advertisements? If a product isn't exactly like you expect is it automatically garbage? Either people's expectations are just way too high for most things or they have an immature viewpoint on life. It's the same thing when a celebrity says something people don't like and everyone tries to burn them to the ground. Did you really think that person was perfect in the first place? Why would you be so disappointed in a human being? Do people really think every product should be perfect? I agree that there should be a standard and accountability (for people and products), but not to the extreme that many people think.
