General info
  • You cannot currently buy any Xbox 360 content on xbox.com using your account balance, you can only use an active credit card or PayPal. To use your balance, you must make purchases on your console. Unfortunately, even "purchasing" free content through the web site like trials requires an alternative method of payment tied to your account, though adding an empty MasterCard / Visa gift card that is registered for online purchases will work. Xbox One games can be purchased on the web site with your account balance.
  • Some sales are intended for Gold subscribers only, as noted within each section.
    On Xbox One, Gold trials of any length work for sales and Games with Gold. You must be an active Gold subscriber (paid or trial) to play Games with Gold purchases.
  • On Xbox 360, you must have at least a 1 month Gold subscription for sales and Games with Gold. Neither 48 hour trials, 14 day trials nor free weekends qualify.

What is this?
Game prices in the Xbox store have a UTC end date associated with them. These dates generally fall into 5 categories :
  1. The item is currently on sale. These are usually the weekly sale items that end Tuesday mornings at 09:59:59 UTC.
  2. The item will go on sale, usually within 2-3 weeks. These are usually set to switch at 23:59:59 UTC, like the weekly sale on Monday evenings. Some of the major annual sales (Spring, Summer, Black Friday, Holiday) start on Thursday evening UTC, and some times appear to be random.
  3. The item is on Game Pass and is not currently or going to be on sale in the next few weeks. Third party games generally cluster around 09:59:59 UTC on the 1st and 16th of each month. Currently, at least one game is associated with every 1st and 16th through January 2025. The dates then spread out, ending with Human Fall Flat on July 1, 2028.
  4. First party and EA Play titles are farther out, starting in 2049, with many in 2799 and 9998.
  5. No date - some items do not have a price and so don't have a date. If the item is part of a bundle that has a price, the date from the bundle is used.
The list below uses the dates associated with games on Game Pass and EA Play. Time stamps in red are the regular Game Pass departure times and titles in red are confirmed to be leaving, either from Microsoft's regular news postings or by devs / publishers. Items available through Game Pass Core, currently on sale or not available for purchase are also color coded.

The date associated with a Game Pass game is not a guarantee it will leave on that date, but since March 2023 when the price data started getting analyzed, every game that's left Game Pass had been flagged as leaving on that date. It's given a number of people an extra heads up on the generally 2 week notice Microsoft provides.

I wish the design lab supported making "shadow" style controllers, I probably would've bought one by now if it did. The left stick on my Ocean Shadow controller quit working recently. :(

I’ve really been enjoying the XP changes to Halo Infinite since it was implemented. There should still be improvements based on performance, but you get the sense of actually progressing pretty well. I’ve gone up 5 ranks in two days of casual play, so the tiered system at least gets me to log in daily to play a few rounds.

Darnt saw that too, was really liking the $20 each month. Traded in MK11 vanilla for 9.60 used $5 monthly to grab xbox credit and grab MK Ultimate for $17, good deal.

I’ve really been enjoying the XP changes to Halo Infinite since it was implemented. There should still be improvements based on performance, but you get the sense of actually progressing pretty well. I’ve gone up 5 ranks in two days of casual play, so the tiered system at least gets me to log in daily to play a few rounds.

Really curious what's gonna happen since season 1 goes until May, and now people are ranking up quite fast.

Probably nothing, though I assume they'll consider the many datamined Fracture events as good enough filler. Most times I've seen delays in other seasonal games it doesn't really change anything and progression kind of stops. Fortnite had it happen once. Destiny 2 is currently experiencing it as well, but they're bridging the gap with the Anniversary event.

Maybe they throw some bonus tiers to unlock later. It's not like it'd be hard to add more shaders if nothing else. Fortnite does this every season now, originally called Overtime Challenges.

Personally I think a half decent battlepass is fine in a F2P game. No gameplay locked behind them, usually a "good" value for their relative cost, and they're going to do something to monitize the game anyways. Infinite is in a weird spot because they are also selling the Campaign, extremely overpriced stuff in the shop and the like.

I do think some of the people making the argument of "lol don't care" should take a look at the bigger picture. Bare minimum the bad challenges and expensive cosmetics have been dominating discussion about the game for over a week now, but in practice it's hampering the actual play experience because many players DO care about the unlocks and are borking games because the mixed playlists are worthless. It's making the experience actively worse.
 
Is Man of Medan worth a play? I started Yooka-Laylee so now I have to decide if I want to finish it now. Not really feeling like a platformer but I might just suck it up.

 
I think I’m level 17 on the Halo Battlepass now.

IMO it seems like they put too much behind the paywall. It would be more fun if most of the standard Halo armor was available for customization and then the battle pass/store is where you lock down the crazy stuff like the clown helmet and the blue Camo color armor and the rubber mallet skin for the hammer, and get a deal with Mountain Dew and drop a Mountain Dew can skin for grenades, etc…

I think that’s where they screwed up a bit, because I’ll reach a new battle pass level and it’s like “You unlocked this slightly different looking knee cap armor for your left knee that only works with one of the 3 basics skins we gave you access to” just two more levels and we will give you the right knee to match.

Over time hopefully they will figure it out.

Apex had the same issues, some stuff in those first battle passes wasn’t very exciting and I’m sure it’s because the devs and artists were just trying to finish the game, and then once the game was done they can start working on more fun unlocks.

its worse than Until Dawn but its only a 4 hour game if you do try it. I still enjoyed some things and these type of games in general so free is a good price at least, just disappointing coming from until dawn.

Not really my type of game but it’s not long and was worth playing . Better than I thought it’d be.
 
Microsoft Solitaire Collection will have a 10k point challenge from Dec 28-30.  This is the first chance to get the Dragonslayer achievement since the update that added new achievements back in October.  They only do these large events once or twice a year, last one was back in May (which is when they usually have one).

Someone created a boosting session on TA that will send a reminder the morning of the 28th.

Is there still a way to get rebate credit for Xbox purchases?  If so, how?  I'm in the Edge browser and I've been prompted for such things before but not now for some reason.

EDIT - I'm actually trying to buy a pre-order, if that matters.

Personally, I absolutely hate them.  you have to use their proprietary battery and cover plate to charge with, and they aren't as good of a battery either.

 
I had play and charge kits with my Xbox 360 and I thought they were great but then on Xbox One I switched to using a plug in charger and rechargeable AA’s and it’s way better. The batteries last way longer, I always have spares charged and ready to go when a set dies. I also like that I get to use my original battery covers.
 
Can anyone let me know what the difference is between the regular version of THPS and the Series X version? The regular says it plays via backwards compatibility but does that make it inferior to the Series X version. Thanks in advance.

I just spent entirely too much time looking at these. Razer bought the Controller Gear brand earlier this year and seems they updated the design of the stands to now include a standard USB A to USB C cable. The Controller Gear stands seem to have a proprietary adapter that ends in a wall charger (no USB end).

 
I bought the PowerA charging station, but no matter what I do, the thing only flashes red. Anybody have experience with how to get it to work properly?

I would much prefer the USB and just hook it up to the system. Must be why it's $15, probably trying to get rid of them.

Is the quick charger worth it? How many batteries do you keep have in rotation just for a controller?

We have the charger and about 16 batteries; but my whole family plays. A single controller....if you are diligent about charging when you switch them out, 4 is all you need. Otherwise, I would grab 8.

Mortal Shell was surprisingly disappointing for me. I played maybe 15 minutes of it and it felt like a poor man's Souls-like. Very try-hard in terms of forcing a weird parry system that didn't feel natural just for the sake of not being a souls clone. I knew a long time back when reactions were kinda 'eh' from places I trust that they were just being nice. Decent is what people say when they want to like something but it's really shit.

Thanks. I’m only using it for one controller so thanks for pointing out what amount would suit different needs. I’ve had my Xbox play and charge kit since it came out with the console and lately it feels like it’s draining faster. It could be due to Forza and some other rumble heavy games I’ve played lately like Marvel’s Avengers.

So I ended up picking up the cross gen bundle. From what I have seen you get 2 copies one for original xbox one. The other is optimized for series x so some extra graphical bells and whistles. Additionally the series x version does 4K 60 FPS or 1440p 120 FPS. You can also double dip achievements.

Last time I checked the Bing rebates page, you can only get Microsoft rebates for electronics purchases, not for purchasing games or movies. So, I think that the heyday of Bing rebates is over now.

I've had trouble with Bing Rebates recently. I followed the link from the Bing Rewards site to make a Xbox digital purchase and it showed the cash back was activated, but it didn't appear as pending. I tried a second time by activating it from the Edge prompt and that didn't seem to work either, so I gave up on it. Just yesterday I got an email confirming the cashback. So, it does work. It just takes a long time (3 weeks) to show in your account.

Apparently whoever bought it originally swapped their dead batteries for the new ones included and returned it, and when I bought it off of Amazon Warehouse Deals in, allegedly, mint condition, I got dead batteries. yay.

 
I don't mind the pacing of the Halo pass, but I don't see them releasing one with as many tiers again. I like what they did in theory, I've found myself agreeing with a fair number of design points. But I also understand the pain points and gamers want everything now making any attempt at staggering things hard. My only real complaint is the need for playlists, let me pick a mode so I don't have to wait to load and then drop slayer.
