• You cannot currently buy any Xbox 360 content on xbox.com using your account balance, you can only use an active credit card or PayPal. To use your balance, you must make purchases on your console. Unfortunately, even "purchasing" free content through the web site like trials requires an alternative method of payment tied to your account, though adding an empty MasterCard / Visa gift card that is registered for online purchases will work. Xbox One games can be purchased on the web site with your account balance.
• Some sales are intended for Gold subscribers only, as noted within each section.
  On Xbox One, Gold trials of any length work for sales and Games with Gold. You must be an active Gold subscriber (paid or trial) to play Games with Gold purchases.
• On Xbox 360, you must have at least a 1 month Gold subscription for sales and Games with Gold. Neither 48 hour trials, 14 day trials nor free weekends qualify.

What is this?

Game prices in the Xbox store have a UTC end date associated with them. These dates generally fall into 5 categories :

1. The item is currently on sale. These are usually the weekly sale items that end Tuesday mornings at 09:59:59 UTC.
2. The item will go on sale, usually within 2-3 weeks. These are usually set to switch at 23:59:59 UTC, like the weekly sale on Monday evenings. Some of the major annual sales (Spring, Summer, Black Friday, Holiday) start on Thursday evening UTC, and some times appear to be random.
3. The item is on Game Pass and is not currently or going to be on sale in the next few weeks. Third party games generally cluster around 09:59:59 UTC on the 1st and 16th of each month. Currently, at least one game is associated with every 1st and 16th through January 2025. The dates then spread out, ending with Human Fall Flat on July 1, 2028.
4. First party and EA Play titles are farther out, starting in 2049, with many in 2799 and 9998.
5. No date - some items do not have a price and so don't have a date. If the item is part of a bundle that has a price, the date from the bundle is used.

The list below uses the dates associated with games on Game Pass and EA Play. Time stamps in red are the regular Game Pass departure times and titles in red are confirmed to be leaving, either from Microsoft's regular news postings or by devs / publishers. Items available through Game Pass Core, currently on sale or not available for purchase are also color coded.

The date associated with a Game Pass game is not a guarantee it will leave on that date, but since March 2023 when the price data started getting analyzed, every game that's left Game Pass had been flagged as leaving on that date. It's given a number of people an extra heads up on the generally 2 week notice Microsoft provides.

This is something I considered too, at least in regards to stores that have regional pricing like Microsoft and Steam.
As cool as Phil Spencer is, we have to remember that MS and by extension, Xbox, is still as much of a profit-driven corporation as it ever has been.

Demos take a lot of extra resources that some teams can't (or just don't want to) add to a project. The ideal situation would be for the platform holders to implement something like Steam's 2 how return policy. Maybe Xbox could solve this with XCloud trials if it was made more universal.

Also, at the time of war, protecting IP and security of information become important. It is not a secret that Russia has massive investment in info warfare. And it makes it especially important for technology teams to leave the space when there is an active aggression is in place - overt instead of covert.

The govt sanctions also come into place around the same. I know my company is actively trying to secure data going in and out of Russia & Ukriane and avoiding any interaction that is not needed or cannot be secured.

Yeah, they did, but I think there are enough differences that it isn't so simple a process. As you said, the games were much smaller, both in scope and actual file sizes. There are way more games releasing now too, usually at 5-10 per week hit the marketplace.

The big thing that comes to mind is that current demo solutions all require QA tackling it to some degree, on top of the normal releases. Seems like a bug hurdle.

Not to mention, it's often NOT the best interest of the industry to drop a demo, at least on or before release day. While they can help, sometimes they nuke chances of success, like Balan Wonderworld or Babylon's Fall. Better for them to hope they get some permanent sales that can't be sold second hand.

The "Priority Zero" policy of no crunch is fine, but this means they either should have really dialed back the claims of live service support, or beefed up the developer count by a lot. It's not just that they're crazy slow, they currently aren't doing much live but very weak events. Not even weapon or map balancing aside from some tweaks to vehicle spawns.

As is, I think this is actually shaping up to be the WORST post-launch support of any Halo going all the way back to Halo 2, barring the literal disaster of MCC.

On a positive/neutral note, it doesn't sound like Forge is delayed any farther here. They already said season 3 pretty soon after launch, at the same time they extended season 1.

Totally agree. Microsoft has been excellent with backwards compatibility and since they put an emphasis on it, I feel comfortable with buying all my games digitally from them. There’s still some 360 and last gen games I’d like to re—buy for the inevitable disc-less drives. I don’t trust Sony or Nintendo with digital copies so 90% of my games of theirs are physical.
Buying digitally saves a lot of space and maybe it’s my age but I’m sick of having so much stuff.

I can put a 20 year old game in my Series X and play it but if I am really going to put time into it I will double dip digitally for the convenience factor and ability to play across multiple systems if the price is reasonable.

Digital seems to be becoming a convenience factor for playing and I think MS's BC commitment makes the lack of physical ownership an easier pill to swallow.

From someone who championed physical for years, the turning point for me was realizing the rate of games releasing would make it impossible to replay my favorites and keep up. Yeah, I fired up my PS3 when they announced they were shutting down the old PSN store. Apparently the PS3 doesn't play nice with WPA2 passwords, I was only able to get it online via ethernet. Makes me appreciate Microsoft all the more.

From what I'm seeing, remote play caps at 60 FPS, unless this changed in the last few months. Even if it did work, I'd imagine it would introduce at least some input lag.

I want to Support Square Enix games on Xbox, and this game doesn’t look bad, but it sure has a bad release window. Elden ring, the new borderlands at the end of March, the new Kirby game, horizon forbidden west for people on PlayStation, how many $60 games do people buy in an eight week period?

Especially knowing that most of those games are pretty long and you could spend a month or two with them before you’re totally done. It screams wait for $20, but I want to show demand for the series on Xbox.

Hope they don't change it. Very jarring going back to make some progress in FM2, hit Y after a mistake and see the track behind you. Took a little bit to adjust to the map icon toggle moving from LB to RB between FH3 and FH4, too.

I tried remote play on Series X for the first time last night with FH2 and it worked great. Didn't go so well with Borderlands GOTY and Tetris Effect Connected today. Video flaked a bit and controls weren't as responsive. Had some other Internet stuff going at the time, so that might've had something to do with it. Would be nice if it could go directly from the console to the other device (tablet in my case) without going out to the Internet and back if the device is close by. Maybe that will come.
